RIDICULOUS PRICING! Called for a service on A/C unit that wasn't cooling. Tech showed up and within 30 seconds knew it was a bad capacitor on the outdoor unit. Charged $99 just to come out, $337 to replace the capacitor. Contacted the service manager who told me the labor was $149 (took him less than 10 minutes) which means I paid $188 for the capacitor, which the service manager told me was an $80 part but I found the identical part on Amazon for $18.10. Quite the mark up!!! All he could say was "industry standard"... They lost me as a customer, and they are the ones I had install the entire system. read more

I had AC/Heating routine maintenance performed, and the technician did not tell me anything of what he was doing. He ended up turning off both of our water sprinklers without our knowledge and did not turn the water back on which wilted all our garden plants.... What makes the least sense is he did this to two different water spouts on completely different sides of the house- and only one is close to the AC cooling coils. The maintenance itself appears to have been done but little to no information was provided- the tech basically just said "well, I'm done" then left. read more

Whatever you do, go somewhere else. I knew no better. We built a house in 2012 and our builder used United. They did us no favors at any time. We have poor air flow. Poor air circulation. Poor room balance. I called them numerous times to address this issues and almost 7 years later, still same issues. But that's not what prompted this review. One of my furnaces has a bad gas valve. I know that's the problem. Their warranted is 1 year full and 5 year parts. Every other reputable HVAC in KC offers 10/10. Please do yourself a favor and purchase any HVAC needs through anyone else besides United. Oh yeah and my electric bills in the summer are 500-600 during summer. When my neighbors are 250-350. They had no explanation or possible fix. read more

Ask for Pony. He saved me $1100. I had someone from Neal Harris come out and give me a $1200 estimate for my boiler that was acting up. I called United Heating to get a second opinion. Pony looked it over, explaining every single thing he was doing along the way, cleaned a small part with a wire brush and got it working again. Explained to me not only did I not need to do the things Neal Harris's technician was trying to bill me, but how he knew. He was appalled that someone had left me without heat when all they needed to do was clean a part. My boiler has been working without issue for a month now, and all I had to pay was the service charge. read more

I had service done on our old A/C and the service was great. I had some issues with the A/C, but after the service techs worked on it, it was fixed and the problems were resolved. I figured it needed to be replaced, but the tech did some maintenance to it and fixed it. I asked how much it would cost to replace it and he said it depends on many different factors of what you want and need but right now it's running good now. So, why replace it if it's running well? I agreed. When the A/C does go out, I'll get hold of United and have them come out and give me a bid for a new one along with a couple other companies. I was told United offered financing too which was nice to know. I have recommended United before and will continue to because the job got done quickly and professionally and done right the first time and that old A/C is still running well. read more

They installed a new furnace, air conditioner and water heater. The furnace stopped working after 3 weeks. The technician that came out on a Sunday was very helpful but the office staff was not very helpful. They had to get a part which I understood but when the part came in the morning they said they could not fix my furnace that day. At that point I had been without heat for three days. It was a bit frustrating to have to go another night without heat when they had the part on hand. read more

My mother in law paid United Heating and Cooling $400 the beginning of this year for them to do service work on both of their AC units since they do live in an town home/condominium. They have yet to come out this year to service the units. It is now May 4th and we turned the AC units on and the main level unit is not blowing cold. So we naturally called them to come out and service the unit today which they agreed to for an additional $125 and any additional parts/Freon needed we have to pay them as well at a 15% discount . I explained to them that the reason for our call today and why the urgency was my mother in law is taking care of her dyeing husband in her home. He is laid up in a hospital bed in the middle of the living room and it is 80 degrees inside. I explained to both the technician and his manager on call that my father in law is on his last few hours battling dementia and we needed to have this addressed. They had ZERO sympathy, towards the situation of which my mother in and law was going through. The manager on call said either we pay the $125 or he will just cancel the call for us. I asked him why have you yet to be out here to service the AC since she already paid the $400 in advance for this? In his words were we would have to reschedule an appointment on Monday to have this done that he would not do it today as we needed it to be done since they have not come out to service the unit in 2018. He then stated that my mother in law was suppose to schedule an appointment with them to have this done. I reminded them again that my mother in law has been dealing with my father in law's medical issue and he has been in and out of the hospital. Again not one "Oh I am Sorry" or one ounce of sympathy they just want their money. Now how can you work with a company that is sitting on $400 of my mother in laws money already and they refuse to do the right thing and come out and repair the AC so my father in law and his family members do not have to deal with this. This company has ZERO HEART along with not a shred of compassion for what my mother in law is going through decency . It shows the character of the employees at this company tonight and I will make sure that this horrible customer service and true lack of compassion for others gets spread all over the Internet. We will be cancelling out maintenance plan with the company and looking elsewhere to find a company that does not want to try and take care of people in the times of need. I scheduled an appt months in advance for an HVAC check and was given a window of 12-5pm with the promise that I would get a call 30 minutes ahead of when the tech arrives so that I could come home from work. On the day of my appt, I got a call at 10:50am saying the tech was 20 minutes away so I raced home. The tech did not show up until almost 40 minutes after dispatch said he would be here. When I spoke with a manager about the issue, he was not concerned at all and told me that the tech had stopped for gas. Would not recommend using these guys if you value your time at all! read more

The first time I had United Heating come out for an issue with my furnace (almost 5 years ago) I was not pleased with the technician. Due to the fact the issue was not fixed and I had to call them out again. At that time Ben came out and determined what the issue was and repaired it. He took the time to explain what was happening and why and the steps that were taken to repair it. Afterwards, I would always request Ben. This time I was told that Ben is now on the Commercial side but another technician could be sent. I was hesitant but it was cold outside and I didn't have any heat. Donald was the technician that came out and worked on my furnace. But by the time he arrive my furnace was working again but I still wanted it looked at because there evidently was something not working properly. Donald was very professional and diligent in determining what the issue was. He also took the time to explain what he seen was happening and felt confident in the actions he took to repair it. He also suggested a twice a year maintenance package that will help keep my heating and cooling systems working properly. I hope I don't have any issues anytime soon but when it's time for the spring inspection for my AC I will know be requesting Donald. read more

United merged with Harris heating and cooling here in Lawrence, Ks and performed an inspection of our furnace. Their technician found multiple cracks in the heat exchanger which were not confirmed by follow-up inspection by a more reputable firm. I placed my more detailed review on Google and the "owner" stated he would refund the $179 annual inspection fee. This was never done even after talking to the accounts manager. We had two issues on the same day, one plumbing, one A/C. Service was done the very next day. The A/C issue was taken care of with just a service call charge. The plumbing issue resulted in a $79 service call charge, but re-attaching a dryer vent on the same visit resulted in an additional $145 charge. Very expensive. We have a furnace stopped working and called them. A technician went there and the trip charge was $143. He told me the air handler motor needs replaced and he would charge $740 for the motor on top of the $143 and he told me he does not guaranty the furnace will work after the motor is replaced. Twice a year the come out to inspect the systems, change the filters, clean what is needed, and keep an eye on things before they become a problem. Their techs are always on time, appts are confirmed the day before then again a half hour before arrival, they take time to explain things if asked, and are always professional and friendly. Had a preventative maintenance contract with United. The A/C unit was working great, until tech came out for preventative maintenance, disassembled the unit, and broke the Fan Motor. Put in a temporary motor that was working poorly United sent out a second tech and said the fan motor was shot and needed to get a new one and price was $575. United broke a perfectly good A/C unit and wants us to pay for it. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND. read more

Sometimes in life, you get lucky and find the right person for the right job. This was my time in finding UNITED. From the first interaction on, I was treated with courtesy and professionalism. On installation day, the team was fast, efficient, polite and used every care with anything they needed to move or get to. They worked together like a symphony and what I thought was going to be a long and arduous procedure turned out quite the opposite. My home is 19 years old and though the air conditioners were only 8, the design of the ductwork and cheap units , gave me a $300 bill each and every month. United replaced those units with LENNOX systems, complete with new furnaces and new and efficient ductwork. Already I feel my home is the same temp in each room and running quieter for sure. I am anxious to get future bills! Once again, United was great, their workers are excellent and I am a lifer! These guys are the best!!!! We woke up on a Saturday to a furnace that didn't come on the day we were to leave town for a week. I called for help. After a little on phone trouble shooting it was determined we needed a service call. Steve was there in half an hour driving clear across town. In took him a while to find the culprit, s glob of stuff in a vacuum hose. He fixed it promptly and made it out of town on time. I can't say enough about how great this company is. read more

I am writing this on behalf of my 85 yr old mother who had a tech from united come check her a/c in late June as part of her semi-annual maintenance checkup. The repairman told her that her unit was old and that she should consider a new one and he would send a salesman by with a bid. The salesman gave her a bid on June 26th. On July 3rd her a/c quit working. After the 4th we got someone else to look at the unit and after putting 3lbs. of Freon in, it is now working just fine.I realize a/c units can lose there charge over time but if the tech really did an inspection less than two weeks earlier he should have seen the unit was low on Freon and charged it. All United wants to do is con elderly women into buying new systems. Needless to say this is the last time my mother will have anything to do with this company.
