When I was sat down at the desk, the guy asked me for keys, said nothing more and disappeared. I sat there a good five minutes not knowing what was happening. When he returned, he'd moved my car into the bay. He then refused to smog my car bc my air intake hose was replaced at some point and didn't have a particular sticker on it. I casually mentioned I'd had it smogged several times before with no issue. He said "they either didn't know or you slipped them some money" in a very judgemental, accusatory tone. I asked if he'd mind if I pulled up the part info on its website to check for the number he needed, and he angrily shouted "yes!" at me and told me to move my car. So I had to back it out of their service bay myself. I love being accused of bribery and dishonesty. Thanks guy. I'd been nothing but polite; his terrible attitude toward me was unecessary. I'm not one to do negative reviews but this was just unacceptable customer service! I went in to get a smog check. After waiting for some time at the front, I noticed no one was there.. so I went to the side to see if someone was working on a car; to let them know I was a customer waiting to be helped. As soon as I said "hello".. the man raised his voice and with a bad tone of voice said "CAN'T YOU JUST WAIT UNTIL I GO UP THERE MAN!?". Right after that, I walked away and drove off. 0 stars Beware I paid twice for this guy's mistake. I was told my car didn't have carb compliant catalytic converter and that It would have to be replaced ($1400). Thankfully I'm a mechanic myself (just not smog certified). also I have smogged this car before with no problem in the past so I thought that was weird (he was made aware of this but he said the last guy just didn't check correctly) . so I get back home and check it myself and found it no problem (pic provided was taken at this shop not my house I posted so you can see the visibility of the #'s). Took it back and told him this and besides the crappy attitude and service I was charged again. If he makes a mistake I guarantee he will not own up to it and you will pay for it so beware. Save yourself the hassle and just go elsewhere. I can't imagine if I wasn't a mechanic and took this guys word I would've been out $1400. read more

I came here due to all the great reviews, including some from people with opinions I trust. Not sure if I dealt with someone different or if he was having a bad day but man was that an awful experience. FYI, it's in the back of the soapy joes parking lot. 2 different apps on my phone sent me in circles, neither to the right lot. No warm greeting on arrival, just "you have an appointment?" Hand him my keys and he asks for paperwork, let him know I forgot but have a photo of it. Asks again for my paperwork followed by "you don't have the paperwork?" Walks away. Drives my car in and asks for my name and address. Hands me invoice to sign and I let him know I have the coupon from the website. Gets mad and asks why I didn't tell him from the beginning and that he has to redo it (which took him 2 seconds to reprint) to which I apologize and say I didn't know we were to that point. Walks away again. Comes back in says the $ amount (no comment on the status of the report). Pay him and all I get is "Keys are in car. You can get it out." Pretty sure it's not safe for customers to be driving out of your bay but hey what do I know. Moral of the story: it was cheap but so was the customer service. There are cheaper places in town that do EXACTLY the same thing but with better service. When I went here the guy was very RUDE. Also, they didn't ask about the fact that I had just replaced my battery, and so the bigger guy there said they would need to retest, and charged extra...about $70 total. Bad experience. Take your business elsewhere to a more friendly and less costly smog, and make sure you ask them to read your codes to make sure the engine is ready for test. read more

Seems like the reviews here are either 5 stars or 1 star. Maybe it depends on who's working. When I arrived there was no one waiting. Quick in and out for smog and reasonably priced. What else could you ask for? Tricky to find, especially in the dark. The only thing you can see from the street is car wash (Soapy Joes). Turn in there. If you miss it, you have to make a few u-turns and try again. Don't ask how I know that. read more

I came here Friday morning at 9:15, the process was quick! This was my first time getting smogged since I bought my car (BMW) so I had a little bit of nerves. The guy that did it was very friendly! He plugged it in took 10 minutes and that was it! He never revved it either or ran it at a fast speed which was great! I always heard when you get your car smogged they do that. Nope! I've taken my cars here in the past for registration & smog check, no problem. This year I sent my daughter there to complete her Smog check with a coupon from their website to complete BOTH smog & registration. The employee refused to complete the registration & appeared to be making up his own pricing. Not to even get into how rude he was to everyone. At the end of the day the smog check was done, but I won't give them anymore of my business. It took more time to take the car elsewhere for registration & it cost me more money to have the smog there vs another facility. Businesses should not advertise services that they do not offer or hire employees who refuse to honor their services. While I can appreciate an owner of a business following up with reviews on Yelp, this was not the case sir. The employee at the San Marcos location refused the registration service saying that your company does not offer registration services any more. It wasn't about the coupon. We would have gladly paid more to avoid the hassle of the DMV line & have no issue with the cost of both services would they have been completed. As a small business owner you should know that your employee is not honoring the services you offer. Your current coupon is for smog only, the coupon that we download from your website at the time was for both services. To be fair, it could have been that you were about to change your policy or procedures, but there was no conversation with the employee about why he would not complete registration services even with the pricing set by the state which we would have been more than happy to pay on the spot. It's about convenience & customer service which were both lacking. I would be glad to explain the situation to you if you would like to contact me directly outside of yelp to clarify the situation. Hey this guy was very hardworking and efficient! He and his wife also sells nice furniture! (They look well-made from the catalog and the prices are reasonable too.) It's a one man show at this place, so if you're lucky without anyone ahead of you on at a not-so-busy time, then you'll probably be in and out in 20 mins. But if he's with a customer, then you gotta wait a little. Best thing is, he also gives out stickers for a fee of $25 (I believe or something like that.) So, it's really a one-stop shop. Just remember to bring your registration and money and you can walk out with a sticker in your hand. No DMV hassle, don't even have to look up what time AAA closes. The location is prime - next a car wash, a tire shop and I believe an auto body shop. You got everything in this little auto care plaza! He's polite and nice, but I understand how he might appear as too "chop chop get this done" to some people that he doesn't have enough time to chit chat and socialize with you, but you're there for getting the sticker so you can go to places without risking being pulled over; it's best if you can get out of there as quick as possible! I'd recommend this smog check to other people. It's still kinda interesting that he sells furniture there which is totally random. But I must say it's a smart business advertising strategy because you're stuck there reading their catalogs while you wait and they make you wanna buy furniture... read more
