I went to the first chain barbershop (by Publix), but they said it would be a 45 minute wait. I went back to my search results and, of the two remaining, the other one seemed to have a religious theme, based on the name (nothing against that, just not my cup of tea), so I chose Alachua Barbershop. I saw that they were only open on Tuesday and another day (they're looking for another barber, in case anyone's interested) , but today's Tuesday, so that works. When I went in, two wonderful women were in there, one just finishing up with a client. The other woman (I'm afraid that I've forgotten her name) instantly sat me down, asked what I want and got started, all within one minute of my entrance. The conversation was great (and I generally dislike idle chitchat with strangers...seriously), she was super friendly and, most importantly, she did a wonderful job! She was thorough, but didn't take too long (she knew I was on my lunch break) and she gave me EXACTLY what I wanted, with even a straight razor cut in the back (apparently doing faces and necks requires a special license), the interior was clean and welcoming and I got a $30+ haircut for $14. I even told her that I might not have $20s and, upon realizing that she might not be able to break a hundred, she told me that I could go break it or hit the ATM elsewhere, or even come back after work (I ended up having enough). In conclusion, I give them 6/5 stars. It was probably my best haircut experience in my life (even better than the lady in NC who used to cut Fleetwood Mac's hair). ...and again, if you're a barber, stylist, cosmetologist, or whatever, looking for a friendly, hometown, "Cheers" (where everybody knows your naaaame) place to work, they said they're looking for another person, so check them out!
