The custom sofas and…read moreupholstery are subpar with slow and delayed project completion times, hidden fees/ price hikes, poor communication, unrealistic promises and lame excuses for missed deadlines/ errors. Product quality was decent but unremarkable. 1/5 stars. I placed a custom sofa order and payed the deposit (50%) in December '24, I was given a quote for the project at $2750 with an estimated completion in 6-8 weeks. I reached out on 1/29/25 checking in on the progress of the sofa. I was told they were waiting for my approval and that the new quote for the project was $4800 requiring an additional deposit of $2400 (50%). I was assured that for the new quoted price the sofa would turn out perfectly to specifications, so I approved. 8 weeks later on March 30, 2025 I had received no communication, so I reached out for progress and was told 2 more weeks "because a few other orders were in front of mine." Fast forward 4 more weeks and I reach out again. I'm told the exact same story. I reach out again 4 more weeks later. I'm told "we just finished the projects in front of yours so it will be done next week." I follow up the next week and get the exact same story. It's like pulling nails getting any information or updates from these guys. After threatening to cancel the order they completed and delivered 7 days later. After waiting 6.5 months, on a supposed 6-8 week delivery time, I finally got my sofa delivered. On delivery they said teak wood went up in price and added an additional $100 fee to the sofa price on delivery costing $4900. Definitely a shady and unreliable business practice. Either the price went up and they neglected to say anything or they waited until the very last minute to order the wood and punished the buyer (me) for their sloppy/ delayed workflow. The quality of the sofa was fine. It looks good, it's not the softest or most comfortable but it looks nice. The quality is fine but not worth the price, the slow service is terrible, the communication is non existent. I would avoid working with Mafes Mall unless you're a masochist or a glutton for punishment.

Next time I might need a tour, as I don't think I got to taken in the entire place or how it was organized. I particularly loved their giant signs, as well as their life-size animals. I was not expecting that! Prices for more typical household furniture seemed high to me, even in the clearance section. But I could tell there were some steals for smaller decor items. I would definitely come back for both inspiration, and if I were shopping for a specific piece. Maybe someday I'll have the chance to buy one of those big signs...!

One of my favorite things about Monticello is they're always staying relevant by having their vendors update the look and feel of their booths, but also by hosting regular themed events that keep customers coming back. Have you visiting the holiday marketplace in the back half of the store each December? They turn the entire space into a winter wonderland that allows anyone to revel in the holiday spirit. They brought in all staging equipment, set up impressively, and left us with an empty house. They do online sales as well as the in house days. The best way to maximize their services it to give them more time. We were not in a rush and gave them 8 weeks to get the sale ready. The additional time allowed them to study our items in detail and really maximize the value we got for them. We gave them additional time after the sale days to continue online sales and they brought in a significant amount. They settle your account promotly on the agreed date. I hope to never do this again, but I would call them again in a heartbeat!

This one in Portland is not in a great neighborhood - just off 82nd. They do have a parking lot to pull into. Seems like the store's main thing is large furniture items - the whole front of the store is couches, hutches, dining tables, etc. They had small goods but nothing stood out and the shelves were disorganized. They have plenty of clothes too but I didn't spend any time browsing them. If you're donating, they will do a pickup or you can drop off.
