All Saints Church, I learned recently, is on the more progressive side of the spectrum in terms of churches. But I'm here mostly to comment on the amazing architecture. It has a Gothic Revival style, the building got completed around 1924, so it's been around for 100 years or so. The stained glass, internal structure, walls and everything else about it gives this place such a solemn, calm vibe. It's incredible to just randomly walk around in Pasadena and enter it like a lost tourist in a new city. read more

Beautiful architecture, but a hollow experience. The "jazz vespers" wasn't jazz - it was New Age xylophone. The "church" seems to have been overrun with pop ideology that has lost a missionary and biblical core. People seem to be using it as a rental and a place for photos. read more

I went to the 7:30am service. There was plenty of parking on the street for free. The service was given to the right side of the church which is a smaller chapel. There was a lot of standing up, sitting down and reading the scriptures together. The priest talked about a white Jesus, a brown one and supporting the anti nuclear bomb. Towards the end of service, two members went down the aisle with a small basket for donations. Then they had the sacrament or communion at the stage. They gave me a small round cracker and a sip of wine. As you walk out, the priest is at the bottom of the stairs to greet you. Overall, it seems like the main mission is to fight for human rights and less on the gospel. I left there feeling a lot of negative energy so I went back to my old church for relief. read more

All Saints is a inclusive and welcoming parish. We were here recently for a confirmation and were very impressed with the Liturgy and how beautiful the service was arranged. I don't usually write about Liturgy, but both Bishop Glasspool and All Saints' Rectory Rev Ed Bacon made it very special. The music program is also top notch, with four Section Leaders leading the congregation and guests. Another plus is the acoustics, which make their organ music exquisite. I would come back just to hear a concert, it's that good! Clearly mission, outreach and programs here are a model for all churches. My 200th review! Yay! I love All Saints. In 2013 I decided that I might give church a try. I grew up kind of Buddhist kind of nothing. When I went to look for a church, I used, you guessed it, Yelp! All Saints at the time had the highest and most reviews during that time, and I liked the design of their website. I appreciated that they live stream their 11:15 AM Sunday service, so I could go to church (I had never really been before and literally did not know what went on) and see if I wanted to go. I eventually went to my first real life service, and was amazed by how welcoming, nice and accepting everyone at the church was. I signed up for their "new member orientation" (you don't have to join, it's informational) and over eight weeks I got to spend time with my small group of amazing people. After eight weeks, I decided to join the church, make a pledge, and even got baptized. A truly wonderful and amazing experience. Every time I enter All Saints I am swept up in a sea of calm and happiness. I feel so lucky to truly feel like I belong in this Church even though I am very new. If you're looking for a new church, then as the rector always says "Wherever you are on your journey of faith, welcome." read more

All Saints is a great church in that it is open minded, welcoming, reaffirming, liberal, anti-orthodox & anti-fundamentalist which for me spells all the great characteristics for portraying it to be heart-warming, caring, non-judgemental, and spiritually elevated. I went to the Jazz Vespers: A Celebration of Life, Spirit, & Music scheduled for Sunday, November 17, 2013 at 5pm. Anthony Wilson Trio was the featured performing artists, and there was over an hour of mellow, meditative jazz that included amplilfied guitar by Athony Wilson, Piano by Joe Bagg, & Bass by Darek Oles. The music was interspersed with prayer, dramatic reading by Eddie King of "I Am Waiting" written by Lawrence Ferlinghetti, part of the Beat generation of poets. Christina Honchell had meditations on the current events of our day giving it an All Saints liberal slant that contained humour, incisive criticism, cutting commentary, but clothed in kindliness & wish to better the world away from stiff orthodoxy & rigid authoritarian attitudes. I like how welcoming they are at all saints and also how supportive. The sermons are very uplifting and the music is good.

I attended the Christmas Eve service last night at 8pm. It was my first time attending this church, and to sum up my experience, I gladly will return. The church is spectactular 'as is', and for Christmas, was decorated so incredibly beautiful. An orchestra, along with a large choir, performed classic Christmas songs...candles lit at each row, wreaths, and wow - it was just nothing short of amazing. The message was very inclusive of all faiths, and evident by it's welcoming of several Rabbi's in attendance. The sentiment is that we are about relationships, being there for each other, and when life is 'dark' -- it is then that the brightest hope is shown to us. Overall, this was a lovely experience. The people were warm, the Pastor very welcoming and kind, and I look forward to returning again. read more

I am not a religious person by any means but I visited the Pasadena City Hall on a scorching Sunday afternoon and noticed the beautiful stained glass from across the street. It was music to my ears when I heard that it was opened not just because I love visiting churches, a habit I developed traveling throughout Europe, but because I felt the air conditioning from the entrance way. My boyfriend and I were the only ones in there enjoying the cool air and basking in the beauty of the church. I noticed many people taking engagement photos or quincenera photos at City Hall, but this was a little gem that could have produced some beautiful photos as well. read more

I'm an atheist and I love churches...there I said it. I think my love of churches started at the Catholic Church I attended at Catholic school (my family actually was Baptist and those churches are mostly ugly) I came across this church on my morning walk and noticed the door was open and headed in. There was no one inside so I took some photos. It's a beautiful church inside with beautiful stain glass windows. If you are around the area and have an appreciation for churches come check it out. Oh yeah...I went upstairs to see what was up there and some guy was sleeping up there...I think he was homeless. One more thing...NO I am not reviewing churches to get my review count high...I have more than enough flipping reviews I just wanted to share my photos and experience with you. read more

So here's my take on religion: I don't think unreligious people are better than religious people or vice-versa. I've always considered myself more spiritual than religious; however, I think practicing some form of spirituality in a social context *does* keep you in good energy and focused in what's truly important about life, and helps you exercise gratitude, forgiveness, compassion, empathy -- which I believe all help your spiritual evolution. :-) I haven't stepped into a church during service in awhiiiiiile. I read up on the reviews here quite a few months back and felt inclined to giving this a shot, so I finally went to bed earlier on Saturday night, which in itself is a miiiiracle... :-D And I must say I had a great Sunday today! Primarily the reason I decided to go is because I've been meaning to find a more liberal church where I can practice some form of contact with my spirituality in a social environment. However, I did not want a priest who was 98 and all about horror and destruction stories, gay bashing sermons and saying how God "hates this" or "hates that." That just goes against my personal views of loving thy neighbor. I have many friends who are from different religions and sexual orientations, so I'm not gonna sit through service and hear someone talk badly about people I love. And I think I may just have found the right fit. I was actually raised the first few years of my life in the Episcopal Church. My parents later changed to the Roman Catholic Church, to which I assisted as a teenager quite frequently and then lost interest. My interest in re-visiting the Episcopal Church came as a result of (I guess) not feeling satisfied with churches that don't welcome EVERYBODY in a genuine, no b.s. manner. I've been to All Saints just once, today, so I will update my opinion as I experience more. But so far, so good. I went to their Spanish service at 1PM. I was told it used to be bilingual, but it's now recently changed to fully in Spanish. They have a young priest (in his mid-to-late 30s?) who is very warm and welcoming as all of the other members of the staff. I also noticed a few non-Latin people of Caucasian and Asian descent, which I thought was very cool too. Everyone was nice. This is the kind of church in which people walk out of their pew to shake your hand at that peace/greet moment of the service. If you're extremely introverted, you may either feel weird, OR choose to smile and return the kindness. :-) I also like that women have a very active role in this form of faith (there are women bishops and altar women. Welcome to the new century!). The church in itself is gorgeous, architecture-wise, which is not really the reason I looked it up, but it *is* a nice environment. It's very big, yet I loved that it felt very intimate and familiar at the same time. The high ceilings and generous space did not make me feel lost and disenfranchised. And somehow I didn't feel intimidated about not knowing all the protocols. It was pretty smooth and easy. One thing I don't love is the I-say/you-say part, very typical of Catholic churches; yet they do have a script with all responses and songs. The choir was very nice -- no hurtful notes making your ears bleed, which can so easily throw you off if it's the other way around! :-D I know, it's not right, but when they're bad it just makes me wanna laugh! But not the case here, and they sing songs in Spanish and in English. They did a very different yet cool acoustic arrangement of "Amazing Grace". They have a study room that I saw was filled with young people. I didn't want to go in, because I just wanted to take in one thing at a time; but I may drop by at some point to learn how they see things and life in general. I also thought it was very cool that they have a moms-&-toddlers room: if you're a mom and have a child who's a little out of control crying, you can stay in this room and listen to service through speakers, so you don't have to interrupt other people's experience. I mean kids are kids, but c'mon! Sometimes it calls for a time-out! So, yeah: progressive, social cause aware, all-welcoming, friendly, uncreepy and warm. I had the opportunity to shoot a wedding here. Very beautiful church. The stained glass was beautiful. There are a lot of nice details. Lighting was great. The courtyard and surrounding area was really nice too. Very easy to find and there's parking for the church right next to it. Lots of corners and spots to continue taking nice pictures. read more

I don't normally like giving churches Yelp reviews, but this place is so incredibly special I can't resist. For starters, All Saints has quite a reputation before them. Progressive politics is in every fiber of their altar cloth. Whether it is on the pulpit or on their courtyard every Sunday, this church makes their stances explicit and well-known, that political awareness and activism is central to their ideal of Christian advocacy. It's a very political church. With that being, it can be really daunting to attend their services from time to time, as a new visitor or even as a member of the denomination. Their style of worship varies quite a bit from your standard Episcopal service. I'm often very concerned about how the often in-your-face political slant of the church affects anyone who is searching for a spiritual home. I've attended church services elsewhere, where people are just as impassioned and political on other ends of the political spectrum -- it's not a good feeling. Yet, politics aside, it's also a radically inclusive church -- no one is turned down or away. Mingle around a bit after a service, and you'll find all kinds of people with different levels of beliefs involved in the congregation. All Saints evidently tries to connect to the greater community with many, ever-growing ministries and educational opportunities on site. At any given time, they always invite a variety of guest speakers, expert panels, and interfaith leaders to immerse in the greater dialogue of the church. It's a huge passionate congregation, and an even bigger one during the holidays! (Pro-tip: Arrive an hour before any special services -- esp. Christmas, Easter, major name preachers -- if you want to sit in the sanctuary.) read more

During open worship hours, it's a perfect space for when when you just need a moment to yourself. It's so beautiful and dark; not overly bright, nor too colorful. A friend who attends services regularly raves about the open-minded culture. I'm down with a church that welcomes a gay, interracial couple and their adopted children. And when you're filled with the perfect peace, walk over to McCormick & Schmick's for an awesome happy hour, or stroll to the Paseo for some retail therapy and more great food. read more

I made a point to attend the Epiphany mass while in Pasadena for work over the weekend. I have been going to the Episcopal church in my city of San Diego and I also attended a lovely Christmas vigil mass at the Trinity Cathedral in downtown Phoenix. I was raised Roman-Catholic and I have finally grown tired of the rote, uninspiring masses led by the ubiquitous groups of old white men led by the closed-minded Papacy. I have since been going to Episcopalian services. Robin Williams has even joked about the church as Catholic Lite: "All the rituals - half the guilt." My experience at All Saints was divine. The church is a lovely stone building with stained glass windows. The mass was very beautiful and they had candles lit along the main corridor. It was refreshing to see at the alter both men and women, young and old, black, white and brown in color. They had songs in English, Spanish and Latin. They had a signer translating the sermon for the hearing impaired. They had a magnificent full choir and a cool organist playing some intense Germanic-sounding vibes on the pipes. The best part was when we were invited up to the alter to receive blessings. They had provided blank sheets of paper in the back of the program on which we were to write down our personal prayers and then bring them up to a basket before receiving the blessings. It was a unique way to "manifest" any prayers we had. I watched some of the congregation returning to their pews and saw many faces with tears in the eyes. The whole experience was very moving and I felt embraced and warm. They have a labyrinth at this location for doing spiritual walking meditation and they also do a group meditation on Mondays. Along with ESL classes, addiction recovery and other support groups, this church is very engaged in civic duty and assistance. read more

Our photography team came to All Saints Church for one of our customer's wedding. The interior for the ceremony was very beautiful, from the stained glass to the high ceilings to the perfect lighting. The ceremony has a lot of seating for the wedding's guests. As the wedding went on, they held the reception outside in their courtyard, hanging up beautiful lights to light up the night. read more

My very first church that I've attended where I genuinely feel welcomed by everyone. I came across All Saints through Yelp and decided to give it a try. I was seeking spirituality and, quite frankly, myself when I first began my search for a church/place of worship. After reading everyone else's reviews on how tolerant and accepting they were, I went. My first day here was on the first day of Advent (coincidentally.) I sat timidly in the back, not quite sure what was going to happen or what I was supposed to do. Luckily for me, the liturgy they provided at the door helped me understand exactly what was going on. Any other confusion I might've had was answered by the friendly people I sat next to and the ushers who were always conveniently nearby. The services that I've attended were so beautiful. The church has a very large congregation and it is big enough to hold everyone. I came here on Christmas Day with my mom, who has no religion, and even she thought it was a beautiful service. Another perk is that the music here is absolutely gorgeous. It's stunning and moving--and the music they choose for all of us to sing is also beautiful. I will move around my work schedule just to attend this church's service! Amazing. Highly recommend. read more

My husband and I have been attending All Saints Church for 3 years. I promise you I've never experienced a more beautiful church (physically and spiritually). All Saints is the only church I've encountered that accepts literally anyone - no matter who you are or what you believe in. Their motto is "Whoever you are, and wherever you find yourself on the journey of faith, you are welcome to be here, just as you are." They are not looking to convert you by any means, but instead, love you for who you are. Whether you are attending a regular service or a special holiday service, All Saints puts all their efforts to create a powerful service. The music is top notch (multiple choirs, award-winning organist, professional soloists), the sermons are relevant, and there are many resources for whatever you may be in need of (counseling, forums, children's programs). They are also very active in social justice, which is just one of the ways they put their faith into action. All Saints is a church like none other. I always leave a service feeling full, hopeful, and loved. I hope whoever is reading this can experience the same! Come by and see for yourself! :) read more

All Saints Church is my favorite church in the LA area. The building itself is a beautiful Gothic stone cathedral with soaring leaded glass colorful windows. The head of the congregation, Ed Bacon is very politically active and the church is very forward thinking and inclusive. They open their arms to all regardless" of where you may be on your spiritual journey". Ed has been a guest on Oprah several times and is an outspoken leader against Prop 8 and the war in Iraq. The Sunday services are lovely for the eye, ear and heart. I've heard that the choir is award winning which wouldn't surprise me -- and they perform songs that you rarely hear at all the other churches. About once a month there is also a Jazz Vespers in the chapel on Sunday evenings for free, with local jazz luminaries. I think next week it is Bill Cunliffe. The sermons are always spot on with what is going on in the world and keep your attention. There is a website where you can read or download pod casts of ones you find particularly useful. I would recommend this church to anyone who has felt shut out or turned off by other Christian churches in the past. read more

All Saints is a very progressive, social-justice oriented Episcopal church. There's communion every Sunday and many people who attend love the amazing music, progressive sermons, and beautiful sanctuary. (I think Aleksandra was right on with her review but the times I've went during the day there was lots of light in the sanctuary so I don't want people to think it's dark or oppressive.) I'm not a huge fan of high church (lots of up/down, kneel/stand, repeat after me) or I'd attend All Saints because they welcome all of those who may feel rejected by other churches. read more

Keep in mind that this review IS NOT about services held here. We were staying in a hotel close by this location. I mentioned while walking around how beautiful the churches in the area are. I had a discussion with my boyfriend about how I wished the churches in our area were open all of the time for spontaneous prayer. Then BAM. This beautiful church had a sign outside that said it was open all day for prayer! Talk about sign! We walked in a looked at all the beautiful art work and stained glass windows. My boyfriend left me alone for a bit so I could pray. Simply amazing! I just love the fact that they had an open environment. It was very inviting and peaceful. We grabbed a few pamphlets on the way out. They seem to offer many things that appeal to us as a couple. If it wasn't so far from home we would seriously consider stopping in for a service. read more

My husband and I joined All Saints 2 years ago! It's one of the best decisions we've ever made. The community is diverse and welcoming. The clergy / staff is inspiring. We were so fortunate to have Janine, a former priest at All Saints, marry us this last December! We also couldn't be happier with the array of opportunities to get involved in, from book clubs, to Holy Rakers ministry to Greeters ministry. Many of our favorite experiences at All Saints have been attending the Rectors Forums every Sunday. They bring in a diverse and renowned group of intellectuals that have broaden our world and infused it with knowledge! Vocational Journeys Mission Statement: Vocational Journeys is a career/work support group that helps participants discern, clarify, and pursue their life/career paths. Our mission is to support God's people in their vocational lives through regular opportunities to share career, job, and work issues and ideas. Went this morning after an absence of a few years. Last time I went, we were asked to pray for Tayvon Martin & his parents, which I found objectionable and wrote a 2 page letter explaining why the kid had been sent away in the first place and that while tragic, you should have all the facts, the teen was far from a nice kid. This morning, the minister decided to spend part of her sermon bashing the president. I had hoped she would stop with just a sentence or two, but she continued to slam him. I got up and walked out, first time ever for walking out of a church. I feel politics should be left out of the church. I go to hear some inspiration, thougth provoking concepts, some humor, making things better, not slamming someone, who by the way is a regular church goer and donates a lot of his personal money to people and charitble causes. All Saints is not alone in Pasadena for politician bashing, Neighborhood Church likewise makes it a point to regularly slam politicans they don't like. Stopped going there too. If both churches are trying to be all inclusive, play nice. read more

Last year, my sister and I were visiting City Hall when we saw people at All Saints building a structure for fire. We asked what they were doing and they said they were preparing for the Easter Vigil and the man we spoke to invited us to come back later that same night, so we did. We're not Episcopal but we really enjoyed the Vigil service. They start at the very beginning in the book of Genesis and walk through key events. They add a lot of humor and my favorite part is when Christ is risen and everyone rings their bells, shouts, and the white flag waves proudly throughout the church. We liked it so much that we went back for this year's service. It was a little less lively but I enjoyed the tradition and ritual. It is pretty accessible; reserved seating for PWDs, wheelchair access, large print printouts. But we couldn't find a wheelchair accessible restroom on the main floor. It was big so there might've been on another floor. read more

I like this church because I don't have to wait four years for the Democratic National Convention. It's a very beautiful sanctuary, and attending a service here is like watching msnbc with stained glass windows. And from 2001-20016, they still blamed George Bush for pretty much everything, so that was cool. I thought of attending the Sunday after Trump won the election -for the schadenfreude- but it was easier just to turn on the tv and watch The Young Turks and Stephanopolus. read more

I agree with some of the other comments. Under the new rector this church has become less a spiritual community and more a weekly political rally. I think about injustice and what is happening in the world all day - how can you not? And I would come to service on Sunday and felt like I was being reminded of it, rather than feeling restored so I could face it. It's also a bit of an echo chamber - everyone is kinda pleased with how liberal and enlightened they are, and the sermons repeat the same themes over and over. So I stopped going and switched to my old church. Shame because they do have great programs - rectors forum, foster care support, etc. The constant drumbeat of politics just got too much. read more

My brother-in-law is an episcopalian priest back in Rhode Island... and got me thinking of going back to church... I found the experience to be warm, caring and beautiful. I have been back a few times and have had positive experiences each time... I am not sure if I am a believer... but I am open to having this church be part of my spiritual experience. read more

beautiful church. wonderful, engaging service. inclusive (they even have gluten free communion wafers!). i love that they aren't afraid to stand for what they believe in, and are politically active. each week, they offer an opportunity for members to participate (usually by signing a petition) in an important cause-- if they too believe in it. i discovered the church when I happened to be watching super soul sundays on oprah, and i heard the rev. ed bacon speaking. his message really resonated with me, and it was so lovely to meet him in person and experience his genuinely kind energy. read more

A few years ago, I didn't like this church because it was SO absolutely political every Sunday, mostly on things I didn't care about or evenly actively disagreed with. I felt they were being super politically correct without thought. However, now I see that people are sincerely wanting to help our world be better according to their lights. I can respect that. The pastor said something 2 weeks or so ago like, "I want this church to change the world to include all" in unversal health care, GLBT, handicapped, etc. I like that very much. I don't like their so-called "prayerfully pro-abortion" stance. However, I believe the women who get abortions will get them regardless of whether they are legal or not, and there is so much other good in the Episcopal Church in general and this church in particular. I do like the classical music and the fact I usually know at least one hymn, and the fact that I see a lot of compatible folks there. I don't like little bitty churches and there are a lot of folks attending any particular service. I tried the charismatic churches from 1980-1990's, which are more conservative in many ways, and although I really enjoy the contemporary music, I don't enjoy the political bases they are hitting these days. Anyone who feels uncomfortable in any other church should come try this one out! read more

Can't get any help to straighten out a charitable giving statement. We haven't given them anything since 1987. Yet they keep sending us statements at the end of each year saying we have. Obviously, someone else's donations are being wrongly credited to us. We have called and tried to get this straightened out to no avail. Today my mailman told me to mark the envelopes "delivery refused" and "return to sender." I hope whoever is giving this money and not getting credit gets this straightened out. We tried. I wish their receptionist was kind and helpful, not rude and uncaring. I'm glad we don't go there anymore. read more

On Christmas Eve, there wasn't room at the inn!! I arrived 10 minutes before the 8PM service, only to see a sign being put up that the church was full. We had to watch in a meeting room upstairs. It was a nice meeting room, and they did attempt to put on a service there, too. Father Bacon even rushed upstairs to greet us for 30 seconds. The video coverage of the main service was good, but the audio was filled with static. It was kind of depressing. Turns out there were lots of other faiths in the main church. It's nice that they are trying to be "all inclusive", but it would be nicer if actual Episcopalians didn't get left out in the cold. [Literally. The meeting room was cold. No bells at the key points, either.] I think I'll find someplace more peaceful and normal. Plenty of other deserving Episcopal churches around. This place is kind of crazy. read more

All Saints brought me back to church after 20 years away. I never thought I would find a place where I could be so proud of the mission and find the healing and powerful words of love. This is a place where everyone is welcome, LGBTQ, immigrants, people of all faiths and walks of life. Social justice is alive and well at All Saints. Along with weekly services, there is also an extensive offering of amazing speakers and Music/Arts programs throughout the year. This is a community of positive, thinking, individuals who are looking to help others and raise awareness of those who are marginalized. The powerful message of love and all inclusiveness, along with the beautiful services, have helped me through trying times. I am so thankful to have a loving community where my son can learn about his own spiritual journey and grow as a caring individual. read more

I'm pretty much an agnostic, but I must say that a Sunday at All Saints is time well spent for ANYONE -- believer, non-believer, Christian, Buddhist, Jew, whatever -- who is interested in a very special kind of spiritual experience. Not only is the Church itself a minor Gothic masterpiece, and the music and aesthetics simply gorgeous, but the warm, inclusive spirit is simply amazing -- the good vibrations flowing across the crowd at any one of their packed services (the congregation overall numbers in the several thousands) is palpable and really very moving. Simply a great experience all around. And for those who can't manage the Sunday morning trek, the Christmas Eve services are like nothing else this side of Westminster Abbey. read more
