    The Fruits of the Spirit!

Churches are going through immense changes. Many young adults 25-45 years of age are simply not attending church. A good portion of people are watching church virtually on YouTube from their homes, so church attendance has radically dropped. What's changed? How did this happen? America has changed. We are no longer a country which honors God in our daily lives. We no longer teach our children about God and his son Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and offers us eternal life with Him and an unsurpassable joy. When was the last time you opened a Bible in your home and called your kids over to your side and read it to them? We no longer honor the sanctity of life, but we sure know a good restaurant when we see it. We can name the latest Netflix series, but not the promises of God. Few families still drive their kids to weekly Sunday School where they might learn the true stories of Christianity, learn to pray, and glean hope in an anxiety ridden world. If you don't want to park across the street and walk a block, which was someone's complaint, call the church and tell them. I'm sure they'd be sorry to hear that was your main purpose in not attending church, and they'd help you. The current pastor, Matthew John, brings a truly proactive perspective to worship. He encourages us to get involved because our involvement MAKES THE CHURCH. If you are a believer, merely sitting in a pew on Sunday does not nurture the entire body nor you. Involvement in any way you feel gifted grows God's church, brings in your unique talent to the body, brings glory to God, and rewards you with new friends from all parts of the world. Pray, and ask God to open your eyes to any bias you may have about church attendance or the people leading you. I hope you will join us. I believe you will feel loved and will hopefully consider making Lake Ave. Church your home as my family did 30 years ago.

This is a photo I took of their Christmas gathering when I worked as a camera operator. I have since lost that position for speaking out.

As per my experience with Lake Avenue Church (Official) I have to post that these pastors are grooming and extorting children. Their ethics and morals are questionable to me. I could not be paid to watch kids touch each other or have them touch myself. In my personal experience Perry Hawkins (has me blocked on social media, due to his lack of character) groomed children at summer camp and I was one of them. Assuming his birth year is 86' this would put him at 23 at the time of the incident. I was 12. He decides to coerce children into lewd acts, under the guise that the company he works for is responsible for these kids committing said acts. This has been going on for years and I have eye witness testimony that I participated in these lewd activities. Not only have I participated in these acts but other children of this congregation have also been a part of these acts. I have been continuously harassed and I have also been retaliated against by Lake Avenue ALIVE Team. This is my life, and this is something I have had on my mind for a long time. 14 years to be exact. This is not the behavior I accept from a church. I do not care how pious you can be. This is unacceptable behavior from anybody. Truly gross.

And for my 100th Yelp 2013 - LA County review... I give unto thee... Lake Avenue Church. It's that one on the edge of the freeway that you see as you drive to old town Pasadena or just when your cruising down the 210 almost to the 134 or just past it depending on direction. This church takes up almost an entire city block on its own. I have been attending this nondenominational Christian church for a while and enjoy when I go to the service here. This is perhaps the most multicultural and one of the friendliest churches that I have had the privilege of attending. Pro Tip: If you arrive about 10 minutes before the service starts, there is usually parking available in the close parking lot. They have Sunday school for the munchkins during the Sunday morning services. However the 11 am service only has Sunday school for children up to 3rd grade. The 9am service has the full cornucopia of options. They also have a sticker check-in program and take your cell number to txt or call you if there is any issue. The services themselves are usually enlightening and made enjoyable with different music on a regular basis. I wish that they would play some of the classics more, but listening to an orchestra on a Sunday morning is special too. I loved when they had a piper playing amazing grace on the bagpipes, chills are always induced when that happens for me. The people here seem to be very friendly. It doesn't matter your economic level, your ethnicity, or anything else. If you don't speak English I know that there is a Spanish language service, but beyond that, I am not sure if they conduct services in any other language. The services are not always an hour, but they are always inviting and open. Perhaps I will see you out here sometime. Let me know if you decide to go.

I attended Vintage Church Pasadena for about a year and a half, starting in January 2025. I've been…read morea Christian for over 18 years, and having moved across the United States a few times, I've had the chance to be involved in, volunteer for, and actively participate in several different churches in each city I've lived in. My experience with Vintage Church Pasadena was, for the most part, a normal and decent one: I attended the newcomers' breakfast, joined multiple events including a young adults' Bible study, and found most of the leadership, volunteers, and congregants to be genuinely kind people. It's a normal church, with the normal mix of good and less-good people you'd find anywhere. During the World Cup this past June, the church's worship pastor created a group chat for members interested in following the tournament and hosting watch parties. I joined the chat but rarely participated beyond occasional emoji reactions, and never attended a watch party in person since I didn't know him well. Partway through the tournament, he messaged me directly, out of nowhere, with a noticeably curt tone, asking whether I actually attended the church and which service I went to. When I answered warmly and even mentioned enjoying a recent Bible study, he simply stopped responding. The actual groupchat itself had a lot of good-natured sports banter back and forth, which I want to be clear I had no issue with. I was right there in the mix, teasing back just as much, and everyone seemed to be enjoying it, myself included. That changed after the Argentina-England semifinal. I posted a picture of a soccer play from the match. Without warning or explanation, the worship pastor deleted my post and removed me from the group chat entirely, with no conversation and no reason given. To his credit, he also deleted a video another member had posted of Argentine fans celebrating, so his censorship wasn't aimed at me personally, it was aimed at any pro-Argentina content, regardless of who posted it. But I was the only person removed from the group altogether, despite not being the one who escalated anything. Another member of that chat, who was following the exchange and wasn't even on my side of the banter (he also didn't want Argentina to win), told me afterward that he thought the pastor's reaction was "a bit harsh." Also, no one else on the group chat complained about me, except for the worship pastor that was put in charge of it. I reported the incident to a staff member, via email, so it could be addressed by leadership. She later called me and we spoke over the phone for about 20 minutes, and to her credit, she listened closely and asked thoughtful questions to understand the full picture; she seemed genuinely taken aback by how the pastor had handled it. That call was on a Thursday, and as of writing this, two weeks later, I haven't received any follow-up. For context, this will be my very first 1-star review for a church, and 5th 1-star review for any business as a whole, out of more than 480 reviews I've written in over 7 years of regularly reviewing businesses. I don't do this lightly. Please feel free to see all of my other reviews on this platform. I'm the furthest thing from a serial complainer and just basic human decency gets you 5 stars from me. I also want to be clear that I didn't rush to write this. I reported the incident internally first and genuinely intended to let it be handled through proper channels rather than posting anything public. It has now been two weeks and I still haven't heard back from the church. If that changes, I'll update this review accordingly. UPDATE: Added the picture in question that got me kicked out of the church groupchat (Messi with 3 English defenders). Adding some extra context: They did reach back 3 weeks after I had reported the incident, mostly because they saw this review go public and wanted to "put out the fire" so to speak. Throughout the email and phone exchange, they seemed more concerned with protecting the image of the church, by getting me to delete this review, rather than actually bringing correction to the leader in question. Even their "response" to this review reflects that mentality, by fabricating that lie on the spot that I was removed supposedly "... after multiple complaints were made about you by other members of the group." A church that fails to hold their own leaders accountable, especially when said leader is power tripping, is not a church that any healthy and mature Christian should want to be a part of. Also, uncontrolled hostility is a strong indicator of cardiovascular risk, so he should probably be mindful of that. Anyways, I'll close this by leaving an excerpt from my last email to them: "Football isn't what gives my life meaning and I take it just as a hobby, regardless of who wins or loses. My goal is to make new connections and new friends. It would be great for Tom to approach it the same way."

When is it that you guys allow outsiders to be married here if ever .? A 3rd church we called mentioned you could have mentioned maybe waiting 6 months prior to our date to reserve the date if still open but you guys flat out said NO, that NOTHING could be done. St.Vincent De Paul is more popular than you guys already being full that day a year in advance and they were willing to accept us . just saying change your website, or give outsiders details explaining word by word on when they could possibly reserve a date for a marriage there if you guys are reserving dates for YOUR people only. Since you mentioned hundreds of weddings a year there are held it must be ONLY of those who belong to the parish. I truly don't believe god would've denied the sacrament of marriage to anyone based on being from that specific church or not. It could've been that my fiance had tattoos & was in his blue collar clothing but he's a hard working loyal man who's changed his ways and has come a very long way from when I first met him. He was willingly wanting to receive all his sacraments from baptism to conformation to receive his sacrament of marriage whether or not needed here. It could've been that I was in a dress with spaghetti straps. Maybe I wasn't dressed modest enough but clothing doesn't define a person . Seeing that others have been/felt judged upon their looks. Truly sadden that you guys had the opportunity to let us reserve a date having 2 slot times still available but NO, is all we kept hearing. In an era…read morewhere 2/3 of American senior pastors no longer hold a Biblical worldview, we need bold, God-fearing Christian pastors more than ever. Pastor Xavier preaches and teaches the living, breathing word of God. He does not water down the gospel like many other pastors do. He teaches the Bible verses line-by-line, the way all pastors should be preaching. How else are you going to understand the Bible if you cherry pick verses or bounce around from book-to-book? Pastor Xavier also preaches with spiritual discernment. He believes that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. He does not sugar coat controversial topics. He backs every argument with Scripture. I have been to other churches throughout Pasadena and I never felt that my faith grew. All I wanted was to hear Biblical truth. Many pastors are afraid of preaching Biblical truth because they don't want to ruffle feathers within their congregation. After attending Calvary Chapel Pasadena, my Biblical knowledge and faith always grew every single time I attended church. It is a real blessing. Moreover it is a command that your faith must continue to grow. It is not an option. Pastor Xavier is unafraid to teach about sin and repentance. He recognizes the importance of Israel and the Old Testament. He stands up for righteousness by calling out politicians who commit evil acts against our society. He also criticized the scamdemic Covid lockdowns of 2020. Since when were churches considered non-essential? If God commanded his pastors to feed the flock, then what right does the government have to shut down churches? Make no mistake here. I'm a licensed healthcare professional and the John Hopkins meta analysis study of 2021 proved that lockdowns made NO difference in mortality. (I also know that the Covid mRNA shots never completed FDA Phase III human clinical trials before they were forced upon the public. Without the completed studies of safety, elimination, and toxicology, it's no wonder why I have noticed so many people suffering from adverse effects of the shots.) I'm so grateful that Pastor Xavier had the wisdom and courage to share the truth to the congregation. That's what every pastor in America should be doing! Calvary Chapel Pasadena also has excellent children's ministry. They provide childcare during Sunday morning services. They offer one week of Vacation Bible School from 6 year olds to 11 year olds every summer. They also have an amazing Christmas choir program for people of all ages to participate. They also have a Christian bookstore. If you want to truly grow in your relationship with Jesus Christ, truly understand the word of God, and obey the Lord, then this is the church for you.
