Father Gonzalez said NO .! because they are reserving the day for people who belong to the church . We're trying to book a YEAR in advance literally 365 days BEFORE & we were still denied . When is it that you guys allow outsiders to be married here if ever .? A 3rd church we called mentioned you could have mentioned maybe waiting 6 months prior to our date to reserve the date if still open but you guys flat out said NO, that NOTHING could be done. St.Vincent De Paul is more popular than you guys already being full that day a year in advance and they were willing to accept us . just saying change your website, or give outsiders details explaining word by word on when they could possibly reserve a date for a marriage there if you guys are reserving dates for YOUR people only. Since you mentioned hundreds of weddings a year there are held it must be ONLY of those who belong to the parish. I truly don't believe god would've denied the sacrament of marriage to anyone based on being from that specific church or not. It could've been that my fiance had tattoos & was in his blue collar clothing but he's a hard working loyal man who's changed his ways and has come a very long way from when I first met him. He was willingly wanting to receive all his sacraments from baptism to conformation to receive his sacrament of marriage whether or not needed here. It could've been that I was in a dress with spaghetti straps. Maybe I wasn't dressed modest enough but clothing doesn't define a person . Seeing that others have been/felt judged upon their looks. Truly sadden that you guys had the opportunity to let us reserve a date having 2 slot times still available but NO, is all we kept hearing. My cousin was the one who recommended us here and it baffled him to hear the rudeness and lack of professionalism from you guys . read more

Beautiful church. Father gave a great homily today. Love the traditional usage of the incense, candles, and chants in Latin. However my family and I did not feel completely welcomed by the parishioners. A Good morning and a smile could go a long way and can improve the experience in the house of God. (A reminder to parishioners to not judge based on clothing or looks but rather on their faith and wanting to celebrate the mass) Additionally for those not in grace, a blessing with the sign of the cross would be nice as it's done at my parish. Definitely will come back again but hopefully the experience can be better. Can't give a bad rating due to being a Catholic Church. Mother church is a place for all people. Will go to the Spanish mass next time. read more

Attended a concert at the St. Andrew today. The architecture of this church was breathtaking. It was hard not to gawk and stare. The altar was spectacular and I wanted to go up and take a thousand pictures of every angle. Had a wonderful experience visiting this church to support my friend and his Cal State LA Masters Program summer chorale concert. They performed Dona Nobis Pacem which was so gorgeously performed. I'm so glad we made the drive up to see it and to hear it performed with the acoustics in this grand church. read more

Saint Andrew in Pasadena is one of those places that stays with you long after you leave. The church itself is stunning, rich with history and reverence, but what makes it truly special is the feeling you get the moment you step inside. Several years ago, when the relic of Padre Pio was on display, I had one of the most profound spiritual experiences of my life. The line to venerate the relic stretched past the pews and did not stop at the doors. It kept going. People waited with quiet patience and deep faith. I was one of them. The wait was long but not one moment of it felt wasted. The atmosphere was filled with something powerful yet gentle, as if grace itself was moving through the room. The opportunity to hear the legendary Tallis Scholars of England was wonderful. For years, they've been pretty much exclusive to St. Andrew's in this area. Additionally, the church itself is magnificent, a recreation of a Roman style church with beautiful art and religious artifacts throughout. I've also recently heard the house baroque group Kontrapunktus there, and they, too, are excellent. The acoustics are pretty typical for a church, not of concert hall quality, but not bad. read more

I don't recommend you to bring your children to get baptized or to have their communion. Very unorganized, no communication between staff, very rude and inconsiderate. I hate to even have to write a bad review on my church. But everything by was handled very poorly. When I first enrolled my daughter for communion classes I was given a date and time for the ceremony. And I recall this day perfectly because the coordinator Mr. John Anderson told me that I would be able to choose the ceremony date depending on whether I wanted it in Spanish and/or English. I saved the date. Fast forward to today a week before the ceremony they informed me that she wasn't going to have her ceremony this year and that she would need to complete yet another year of classes. Never was I informed that from the start. I called back to get more information and confirm whether or not my daughter was going to have her communion. I called Mr. John Anderson no call back. Called the office, finally got a call back from one of the other coordinators Ms. Juana. I explained to her the situation and how upset my daughter was over it and if there was anything we could do. Mrs. Juana at the time was kind and understanding. She informed me she would be adding my daughter to the list and that my daughter would be having her ceremony this weekend. She apologized for the clerical error. I was so thankful for her. My daughter was happy we went to go buy her dress get some decorations and food. Everything was great. Then 2 days later. I get a call from Mr. John Anderson telling me that there has been a mistake, that my daughter will NOT be having her communion this weekend. He didn't even know that I already had spoke to Juana regarding the matter. He had to put me on hold for 30 minutes to call her on the other line to confirm whether or not Ms. Juana had told me that. He probably was rude to her, because she was so afraid to tell me that there was nothing she could do anymore. This has been the worst experience ever. My poor daughter getting shut down twice, not to mention all the money I put in on her classes and her celebration. To hear my daughter cry and tell me she won't be able to wear her beautiful dress was heart breaking. So I thought to my self, there has to be something I can do. I asked to speak to Mr. John Andersons supervisor, which is Father Gonzalez. I thought to my self, he would be more understanding and he would be kind enough to try and do something to help fix the situation. My daughter could have taken a test or something. Idk at least apologized for all the miss communication, something. Boy was I wrong. He was rude, un kind and inconsiderate. He didn't even let me explain the situation. Very rudely told me it was not going to happen. Blaming me for not reading the manual, pretty much telling me it was my fault. He made me feel stupid and never even acknowledged the mistakes his staff had done. And the suffering he and his staff cause my poor daughter. I do take some of the blame for not questioning the ceremony more or asking for more details. I just lost my father last month so it's been difficult to keep up with everything. But I truly believed we would have be informed towards the end of classes and closer to the ceremony date. Because I was informed the details at the beginning. I just wished they would have handled it better. And if they would have just told me from the first time that she wasn't going to have her ceremony instead of getting my daughter's hopes up to just take that away from her again. I hope this doesn't happened to anybody else. It's devastating and heart breaking. We've been preparing for this day since last year. Imagine. read more

My last review for 2018... St. Andrew Catholic Church in Pasadena is a fantastic structure with its tall steeple, sturdy brick walls, and beautiful artwork inside. I was amazed by the intricate carvings at the top of each marble pillar, the wrought iron chandeliers, and museum quality paintings. The Christmas decorations were festive and elegant at the same time! The Gift Shop had the typical rosaries and prayer cards in Spanish for sale. I purchased a candle for $5 and lit it at the feet of Our Lady of Guadalupe for all of my family, friends, followers and everyone who reads my reviews! The parishioners are so warm and welcoming! Father is an energetic speaker and had us call out our hometowns because he knew that many of us are tourists visiting Southern California for the Rose Bowl and Parade! The lady in front of me was from Germany! After mass, each family received a free calendar full of pictures of masterpieces! Wow! Mahalo! Thanks for being a part of my last Sunday of the year! If you ever what my nervous system looks like well hear you go! From a very tender age this is where my family goes. This is were we celebrate everyone's death to beautiful moments of a baptism. Over all this is were my yaya goes for prayer. Lately with C19 It's been hard to get her a priest to visit for confessions. Marcos G, I spoke with Lourdes. She did mention speaking to the priest, and I mentioned we did not have to do that when we baptized our daughter in 2019. We currently do not live in CA anymore. We wouldn't be able to meet with the priest before hand because we would be flying in the night before what would have been our son's baptism. We were heading back to baptize our son where our daughter got baptized and where both of our families live. Our families are important to us and we would have loved for them to be able to witness our son's first sacrament. It's hard for both of our grandparents to travel to us since we live 2.5 hours from the nearest airport. Your spiritual concern should be about the child who is receiving the sacrament not his parents. read more

This is one of the most beautiful churches in the LA area. The architecture with its high ceiling and the design of the altar is amazing. Add in the marble columns and the holy statues spread out throughout the church, you can see why this church is so beautiful. I attended a New Years Day mass here and was lucky to have the mass conducted by a bishop with the help of the priests. The homilies were translated in both English and Spanish. read more

St. Andrew Catholic church, is a beautiful church. We love it. I wish to give them 5 stars but unfortunately we had the worst experience here. We baptized our daughter today 7/13/24, and had a horrible experience with the coordinator. Father Gonzalez was not there so the priest that was there & that did the baptism, didn't really know how to do anything. He was very nice, and respectful but it was just so unorganized. The coordinator, which I can't remember her name, she was so unprofessional & very rude not only to us but to our guests and to the other family that was also there for a baptism for their daughter. The coordinator was irritated that both babies were crying. mind you these are BABIES! they cry. The priest would tell us to do one thing and then she (the coordinator) would tell us to do something totally opposite from what the priest would tell us. So she would get mad at us for something that is not our fault. She raised her voice at us multiple times. Just a very rude person that I don't think should be a coordinator if she has 0 patience. She made everyone feel uncomfortable and was very distracting throughout the whole baptism. read more

Father Gonzalez is by far the best priest that the Catholic Church has to offer. If you are ever in the area, I recommend attending one of his services. The church is beautiful and always leaves me in awe when I step in. read more

This is a reply to your comment. I had to pay for the mistake of the secretary and I called and pleaded multiple times for her help. As I needed my license so that I could prove I was married and be put on my husbands insurance. Do you think the secretary cared? No. She was so rude and sent one sentence emails back. She rarely answered the phone. When I wrote the review she instantly changed her tune. This church does not represent the values of Catholicism and I hope and pray that how you treat people does not sway them away from the religion. This church has close minded individuals in charge who are righteous and believe they can tell anyone whether they are good or bad in the eyes of God. But you are not God. And I hope as a priest and representation of the church are able to change and become a better person. And lastly I was looking at the reviews below. I was married here and my only request was not to be married by Fr marcos. Not only did he say I couldn't marry because I lived with my fiancé at the time but he went on to say that I was not a good person for living with him. We are both Catholic. We both love each other. Beautiful Catholic church where 2 good friends of mine were married several years ago. I hadn't been back since until last weekend where I attended a baptism for the son of a good friend of mine. I was shocked to hear the night before that there were 16 kids that were to be baptized that Saturday morning. Whatt?!? Who does that? Do they only have baptisms once a month at St. Andrew's?? I've never heard a church doing such a thing and I went to private Catholic school all my life so I feel like I have an idea how things are typically run. It was a long ceremony, to say the least. My friend had to contact the restaurant she rented out for the post-baptism reception to let them know the party would be late. It was really not ok in my book. The church should plan better. It wasnt efficient. And... to top that off, after baptismal ceremonies, families usually like to take photos up near the altar and baptismal bath. Well, no more than 10-15 mins after the ceremony was done, a woman gets on the microphone to let people know that there was another ceremony about to begin in a little while and we had to vacate the church. Really?? You have 16 kids that just received the sacrament of baptism, remember?? Very disappointing... The business of religion, anyone?? There were so many better ways to handle the issues I wrote about. Minus 2 stars, to me, is generous. Call it Catholic guilt. read more

After finishing my errand, I was ready to go home so I keyed in my address on waze app. That app must have known that I need to go to church since it was feast of the assumption. It brought me here. As I made a turn, I realized that it was a catholic church. I took my chance and walked towards the church. To my surprise, the mass just started. I was happy that I was right on time. The church is actually beautiful. If I can get married again in a catholic church, I will choose this without a doubt. An added bonus is that they have a small gift shop in there too. Gonzalez incorporates Latin in the Masses and highly encourages reconciliation and receiving The Most Holy Eucharist. Fr. My sister got married here. It was a beautiful church and beautiful ceremony. However, our overall experience prior to this was really disappointing and I just want to warn everyone. Father Gonzales was the priest originally meant to marry my sister. After meeting with him, she was in tears. He told us that she was not a good Catholic as she lived with her boyfriend prior to marriage (after being together for years and only delaying their marriage because he was deployed in Afghanistan). Rather than providing counsel and advice, he simply dismissed her and said she was a fornicator. These were his actual words. I understand the church teachings, but this is not the way to teach. It was really offensive and really sad. If you don't believe me, please send me a private message and I will send you the screen shots. At this point, we had to stop the process and have a different priest marry my sister and her husband. As beautiful as this wedding was, it was not worth the treatment we got. read more

This is not my parrish, and I merely attended a wedding ceremony here. I daresay this church's architecture is so aesthetically pleasing that it doesn't even need flowers or any other decorations (as is customary for weddings)! Large pillars, gorgeous ceilings, and exquisite color schemes! Also, it was nice that the priest was bi-lingual! He had a very thick accent to his English but was perfectly understood (am I seriously reviewing a priest?) Lastly, the acoustics are great in here. From the outside it looked like a nice church and the doors were open so I headed in. I did the ritual holy water thing...I love religious rituals and no...it did not burn me...I was concerned too. :) The church was empty so I took many photos. It is probably the second most beautiful churches I have ever seen...in the USA that is...St Patricks in NY is number 1. Father Marcos Gonzalez entrusted holiday decorations for the mighty St. Andrew's Church! A most humbling, fulfilling and inspiring experience. From planing and dreaming, the anticipation our hearts were filled with tremendous joy. I enlisted my ever so loyal friend Gilma Magaña and yours truly Carmen Miranda. We fell in love with this grand project and planned with great joy and devotion, and although not professionals, the passion and love of flowers combined with the sublime project and task ahead, we were certain a greater being would watch over us to make this yet the most beautiful decorated church worthy of this magnificent masterpiece, as the church welcomed us, back again with gratefull and open arms. I am attaching the original decorations. A days work and 500 poinsettias later... here you go...to parishioners with love and gratitude to Father Gonzalez, for your relentless endurance. We created medallions of cascading poinsettias . The Nativity was graced with swirls of gorgeous poinsettia plants that gracefully surrounded the Wisemen and the Nativity... other accents included various festive touches which were meant to end a year of sadness and ring in a new year with hopeful abd humble hearts... thank you Father Gozalez for an experience of a lifetime. We are getting married in Mexico but, we did our marriage prep at St. Andrew with the help of Luci Santos the Ministerial Coordinator. She helped us with everything, I needed one of my Sacraments and she provided all the information for me to attend RICA with Father Jose Corral, which I did, completed and received the Sacrament Of Confirmation, all in time to send our documents needed to the Catholic Church in Mexico. It's been such a great experience, I've started volunteering in the Sunday RICA (Rito de Iniciación Cristians para Adultos) classes Father Corral teaches, and I encourage anyone needing to receive their Sacraments to attend. We are also looking forward to baptizing our son here, the church its self is very beautiful. We are proud to be part of St. Andrew Parrish! read more

This church is beautiful. Looks like something straight out of Italy. The pillars, arches, the paintings, it's all breathtaking. This is the church where as a 7 year old girl, I said goodbye to my father. Walking in here as an adult now and having attended many funerals since, it will always have that heavy heart feel. Oddly enough I enjoy coming here very now and again, even if all I remember is how I once sat on the front pew and saw the first man I ever loved for the last time. Wow, I never knew about this amazing church. Most churches are typical in design, but St. Andrew's is like stepping into the time Leonardo Da Vinci or something. Such a beautiful Church! Always get an amazing feel of peacefulness when I come here. I love that they have an alter for la Virgen De Guadalupe. It is gorgeous and always gets me emotional.
