I especially enjoyed my visit to St. Mary's Closet. St. Mary's Closet is on the campus of beautiful St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Stuart. The charming store has been artfully arranged by friendly volunteers. There is a main room with clothing, accessories, art, shoes, and antiques and vintage pieces. They have a dressing room area to try on clothes. There is also a smaller side room with household goods, small appliances, toys, puzzles, and men's clothing. On the day I visited everything in the store was 50 percent off except for the items like jewelry in the glass cases. I found the sweetest Portmeirion Botanic Garden Bouquet trinket box marked down to $1.50. It has beautiful butterflies and flowers on it. It is selling for over $20 on different internet sites. Meredith helped me with my sale and she was so sweet and welcoming. There are a lot of great thrift stores in Stuart and I would definitely add St. Mary's Closet to the list.

Every year the Hibiscus house provides services to 1,800 children and families in St. Lucie and Indian River Counties. To pay for their programs, the Hibiscus House operates the Hibiscus Treasure House Thrift Shop located at the base of the Roosevelt Bridge. The 5,000 foot thrift store is run by volunteers. Inside you can find clothing, accessories, small appliances, furniture, household goods, toys, books, and collectibles. The sale of donations to Hibiscus Treasure House provides money for their programs as well as supplies the Hibiscus Children's Center's residential facilities with the items the children may need like clothing, baby items, furniture, toys, games, and movies. Families in need and children aging out of foster care can also obtain vouchers to shop at the thrift store. This was my first visit to this store and I was impressed by both the mission of this charity and the excellent store they run. I was able to fill a bag with toys for my classroom and holiday decorations for $7. When I was checking out I mentioned what I was purchasing the items for and they gave me an educator's discount. Please support this wonderful organization by donating your gently used items and by shopping here. They have their own truck to pick up your large furniture donations.

They are the recipient of the 2023-2024 Community Involvement Organization of the Year Award from The City of Port Saint Lucie. They are striving to open a transitional facility that will give victims and survivors housing, counseling, therapy, education, financial aid, healthcare, and childcare. Rufs is located in the St. Lucie plaza. While this plaza has seen better days, don't let the shabby exterior deter you from visiting this gem of a thrift store. Inside is a boutique like interior with tons of clothes, accessories, small appliances, and household goods. Prices are deeply discounted and everything is attractively arranged. If you have a young lady in your life in need of a formal dress for prom or homecoming, this is the place to go. Gowns which still had their hundreds of dollars price tags were marked down to $50. Another item that caught my eye was a the perfect pair of high heels for Halloween. The couple who were working the store were friendly and sweet. Come out and support this great organization while updating your wardrobe and saving money all at the same time.

Fortunately I found this fabulous thrift store from the Jensen Beach Community Church just a few doors down. Proceeds from this thrift store supports the Shepherd's Pantry providing food for those in need, a meeting home for Al Anon, Alcoholic's Anonymous & Narcotic's Anonymous, Indiantown Boys & Girls Club, and Habitat for Humanity. This thrift store is large with two long rooms filled with furniture, small appliances, linens, household goods, holiday decorations, clothing, accessories, etc.. I absolutely fell in love with a 1920's prohibition era wooden vanity that is just waiting for the right person to restore it and bring it back to life. They also had tea cups in my inherited Royal Rose pattern. Everything in the store was well organized, well priced, and in good condition. The volunteers who were working were friendly and helpful. The Mustard Seed Ministries mission is "to coordinate the energies of the Christian churches of St. Lucie County to meet the spiritual and material needs of the whole person and to make referrals to all available relief agencies in our community to take care of those in need". According to their website their "services include assistance with food insecurities, past due utilities, rent/mortgage payments, furniture, transportation/travel, emergency shelter, prescriptions, medical equipment, clothing, gasoline, medical care vouchers and many case-by-case interventions. As part of our food program, we implement a summer food program for school children who receive free/reduced meals during the school year; operate a Community Bucket Garden and an annual Community Thanksgiving Feast." For more than 3o years the Mustard Seed Ministries has been using a grass roots model to meet the needs of the community holistically. They are supported by hundreds of volunteers and community members who administer 17 programs and services available to individuals and families in St. Lucie County. They also operate a food pantry at their thrift store and provide medical education. Proceeds from this thrift store and the one in Ft. Pierce raise funds for their programs. The thrift store receives donations from businesses and the local community. They sell art, small appliances, clothes, furniture, accessories, and household goods. They sell a varied selection of items and prices are inexpensive. Strangest item found here this trip, a very serious portrait of Fred J Ball. Who was Fred and how did he end up here? I have so many questions but he is keeping watch on the store. So many cool treasures here. You can donate and shop in confidence knowing you are supporting one of the worthiest charities in St. Lucie County.

Hope International Missions (HIM),is a division of FEA Ministries Inc which is a ministry that was founded in 1961. Profits from sales from the store go to support world wide missions. The thrift store has parking out front and it is in a separate building on the campus. They have a lot of stuff for sale including clothes, accessories, toys, books, some furniture, and home goods. They had some really cute and inexpensive Easter decorations. I found prices to be very reasonable. What was unique was they had some antiques mixed in with the thrift items. Everything was clearly labeled with price and if it was an antique there was some information about that too. Sitting on the counter was a large doll from the 1950's with a sign that she needed to go to a a doll hospital but honestly, she really creeped me out. They had a lot of other stuff that I did like though including 33 pieces of English Garden China for only $15. My parents wedding china was in that pattern and seeing it brought back so many memories of years of holiday meals. Come take a peek because you never know what you will find.

The worst: If you happen to get a piece of clothing that does not have a ticket label they will not sell it to you. I was there today and purchased 7 items and just because one piece of clothing did not have a ticket label the clerk refused to sell it to me. I really wanted that particular item. I beg him to please sell it but he won't budge. It was not even my fault. It was theirs for not labeling item. I did not think it was fair. I don't think I would return to that particular store.
