I remember for my grandpa funeral a long long time ago there was a manager name Tracy who was really good and was super helpful during the process. Since Tracy has been gone the quality is declining and now the business is just gear toward money making. The interior is old but clean. The viewing room is very spacious. When it time to leave and drive to the cemetery the funeral home doesn't have placard card to put into people car in case you get a ticket from going past a red light. All in all, if I had a choice I wouldn't use this funeral home but it the only one in the area that is close to the all soul cemetery.

It's an unpleasant business to be in, and the people who do this work know and understand that. They thus try to go out of their way to make sure that they give you the best service possible without being any sort of bother. I say this because I recently had my father-in-law pass, and we had to deal with funeral homes. And after the first one (whose name I will not mention) pretty much brushed off our family, we were more than a little despondent. Thankfully, we were referred to Colonial by someone at our church. I can honestly say, without a doubt or reservation, that they are the very epitome of what I said above. The folks at Colonial went the extra mile, even in some places when we didn't know the mile existed. They respected that my father-in-law was a military vet, and they understood that we were grieving, and they did their job, professionally, elegantly, compassionately and went well above and beyond, not just because he was a vet, but because we had a loss and they care passionately about their jobs. This isn't a 9 to 5 calling for the people at Colonial, but instead a passion. That is the sort of people that you want in this job. This is a family-run business and not just some "corporation". Thus it creates a personal touch that I don't believe is found often. My most fervent thanks, gratitude, and recommendation go out to them. In a situation where most families are already reeling from grief, they go out of the way to ensure that they are by no means adding to it...and in the process, they even take away a lot of the additional stress.

After a disastrous experience with…read moreanother funeral home, we found Mr. Barber and his family to be compassionate and caring, clearly in the business of meeting the needs of grieving families. We had our Mom moved from the other funeral home to Barber because they expressed concern for what we were going through and for what we wanted for our Mom's service. While other funeral homes had said no to our simple request for a specific viewing time, the Barber Funeral Home said, "No problem." Each of the family members was kind and responsive as well as knowledgeable. When we needed someone to contact an out-of-state newspaper to confirm our Mom's death for an obituary, Mrs. Barber, took the phone number and called them immediately. The funeral home itself is a lovely old home that we found very comforting...especially when we were told that they believe "each family should have their own private time to grieve for their loved one" so they don't book more than one viewing or funeral at a time. The entire funeral home was available for us and our guests who came to honor our Mom. As professional and knowledgeable as the Barbers are, it was their personal compassion expressed to us that was unique and precious to us. A sign in the home says they are "proudly family owned and operated". The Barber family has much to be proud of!
