Fast Friendly service... Food is great hot and fresh. I ordered the Bacon Cheese- Rite basket ( maid-rite (for those that don't know maid- rights are loose hamber meat sandwiches) with cheese sauce and bacon) with all the toppings but asked for grilled onions instead of regular no problem). Wife found a hair wrapped around one of her french fries, which therefore preempts any future visits involving her presence. Diner format featuring lots of foods plus the classic Maid Rite. Can't beat a good "loose meat" burger with secret seasoning and these did not disappoint. Wish beef had been more finely ground but that's a quibble. And they were a bit pricey. Shakes not the best; butterscotch was not thoroughly mixed in. Visiting my wife's grandmother in Burlington, and have wanted to try a 'loose meat' sandwich since Rosanne Conner opened the Langford Lunchbox. Place itself is all kitschy diner, and in the usual Iowa fashion, pretty bare bones. Servers weren't exactly chuffed to be serving, but if they made more than minimum wage I'd be shocked. Maid-rite sandwich was great. If you're not familiar, its finely ground meat seasoned with salt and pepper cooked into a crumble (it resembles a sloppy joe, but doesnt have any tomato sauce), and is served on a soft bun with mustard, onions and pickles. It's certainly a midwestern speciality dish and i'd be surprised to see it anywhere else. read more

Cute atmosphere, very 1950's, pretty good service. The food is tasty but not diet friendly. My mom got fried chicken and I got a grilled chicken sandwich with a salad and mine was almost $4 more than hers. Its good food but come here if you're looking to splurge on calories. read more

This reminds me of every early TV diner. Its got a large counter for most ofthe seating and then boothes along the walls. Its right on the river front and its got a jukebox playing. The maid-rite menu is always a winner. Fried goodies with terrific sandwiches and cold drinks. This is one my all time favorite places as a child. read more

Edited to add: this ended up being my grandfather's last meal on this earth. It will forever haunt me that this POS establishment couldn't even provide a marginal dining experience for him. In town because my grandfather was recently diagnosed with not one but two different cancers, so this is already not a pleasant trip for me as he is near death. I reside in a very large city, so I am used to great food and great service. Why? Because in a large city, there are thousands of dining options--meaning if you can't keep up or don't treat customers well, they will NEVER come back. They certainly don't need you when restaurants are a dime a dozen. While the food might not always be as tasty where I reside, the staff at Burlington restaurants are usually warm, welcoming, and accommodating. This was my first time at Maid Rite, and it will most definitely be my last. I don't feel like we had unrealistic expectations whatsoever. We strolled in around 10:30 this morning (Sunday). Obviously the kitchen might run a bit slower than usual on a busy morning. However, when we had waited OVER AN HOUR for our food, we all became a bit irritated. Again, it's not like we're in town for kicks and giggles. This past week and the week ahead have been and will continue to be very emotionally draining, and we don't have a bunch of free time. We continued to wait and wait and wait. Finally, our waitress came out with our food and apologized but had no excuse other than they didn't bring in enough people to work today. When it came time to pay (oh, by the way didn't even comp one meal for us--apparently that would be much too big of them), I requested to speak to a manager. He angrily stormed out of the kitchen and started laying into me, in front of numerous customers might I add. He told me to look at the sign on the door (referring to the "Help wanted" sign) to figure out why they're slow. I asked if there was a reason he couldn't come and personally apologize instead of making his waitress do it. Instead, he told me when he goes to Michigan he always has to wait to get a table and on his food.... uh, okay cool story, bro? That wasn't even halfway relevant. Before I could even respond, he walked away. Quite possibly the most disrespectful, unprofessional, despicable man I have ever interacted with, and he's the one running the place. My husband and I went there for the first and last time last week. There were maybe only 1-2 other small parties there at the time. There was a sign that told us that we needed to wait to be seated. There was a staff member sweeping the floor. She looked directly at us and continued to sweep. OK, maybe she is not the hostess. About 5 minutes go by, still no one comes up. I get the staff member's attention. She tells us to seat ourselves. She didn't even give us a menu. We had to grab our own from a box. Time to order. Hubby ordered the day's special (tacos). I ordered a salad. Was told that they were of both my first and second choices. I ordered the special (Greek Tacos). I don't know if it is because we have lived most of our lives in Arizona, or if it is because we are used to spicy food, but there was not any flavor to the food. The hamburger was dry. The salsa had no flavor (She poured it out of the bottle.) The food was not good. I get it, maybe people in Iowa don't like spicy food. However, there is no excuse for the poor service. read more

The service was okay, but the waitresses constantly complained about the customers out in the open and made everyone who was here seem very uncomfortable. For me meal, I ordered a maid rite with only ketchup, it was apparent that when I asked for my order to be fixed, they scraped off the old toppings and added ketchup. It did not taste good. At the end of our meal, a group of 30 started to arrive. The waitresses vocally complained in front of them, some even saying that they'd like to go home sick because of it. Fantastic...While on a return visit to my home state I went to the West Burlington Maid Rite! LoveLove Loved it! Tasted just as I remembered. WE also go some homemade coconut meringue pie that was wonderful. It had old fashioned home made taste that you rarely find in a restaurant. read more

The coffee was midwest weak.--not a surprise.The service was adequate--not terribly friendly--but efficient enough once we were acknowledged. The waitperson was welcoming to people she already knew, so we knew she had it in her. I probably wouldn't go back.
