Fast forward twenty plus years and this is the activity I chose for this years birthday for myself. They had about four different batting lanes that you can rent by the half hour or the hour. I brought a party of seven over of which five of us decided to take turns trying our luck hitting the balls and feeding the pitch machine to one another. The balls used are not actual baseballs which I was kind of surprised by but much larger bright colored balls. The pitching machine you can rent goes from 30mph to 60mph and you can set the speed. The machine we hit off of looked like it has seen better days but the owner did offer to use another machine after a few minutes of us hitting which looked a bit more efficient. The machine we used kind of turned off on its own several times and we had to play with the wires to get it to turn back on. I gained much more respect for the art of hitting balls as you really have to bend your knees and get the bat off your shoulder fairly quick to time bat to ball contact. I am glad I went for my birthday and in the future I would probably go to Grand Slam Sports in Malvern just because I believe you do not have to manually load the balls to pitch to another person. This establishment is best for instructors that are training their athletes, however my nephews and one of my best friends who hit with me enjoyed ourselves and I am thankful for this opportunity. Nice people working here, decent sized shop with some ok merchandise, decent facilities. The majority of the batting cages you have to sign up for in advance which are primarily used by teams, but there are three batting cages in the back which are token-operated and do not require a reservation. They have bats and helmets for people to borrow. Little space outside of the cages so no room for practice swings. One token costs $1 and gets you ten pitches from the machine. I bought 20 tokens for my son and I. Unfortunately, the machine jammed constantly, and/or the token machine stole our tokens, so then you have to go back to the front to tell an employee, but there are only two employees and they're dealing with thirty customers at once so it takes time for them to come back and sort things out. The machine ate one of my last tokens and I couldn't even be bothered to go tell an employee again because I just wanted to leave. When it was working, the batting cages were fun and both my son and I enjoyed it. But because of the malfunctions we'll probably look for another batting cage in south Jersey before we come back here.

I think it's Safe to say this place Didn't have that problem at all. Everything from fielding turf to a pitching cage, batting cage. Automatic pitching machines and great coaching. Not to mention, one of the cages has hitters Trax so you can actually see exit velocity, spin and distance during your hitting session. I worked with Scott and man was my confidence restored. After one 30 min session I felt like if was hitting the ball with confidence again. He showed me things I was doing right and not so right . If you wanna get better at any aspect of the game look no further. This is the place for you.

It's less of a convention "gym" and more like a small community of people who actually care about health and fitness. You won't see the all-so-annoying gym members that LA has... no roided-up men grunting at the weight racks... no women just barely covering up their va-jay-jays to get attention. It's about real people here. This gym has all the equipment that a conventional gym has, (treadmills, ellipticals, free weights, machines, etc.) but they have so much more,... The Jacob's Ladder (a never-ending ladder-- great cardio!), TRX bands from the ceiling, climbing ropes, suspended pull-up bar, vertical max boards, sliding boards, etc. There's even a Tough Mudder training obstacle course outside! The trainers really know what they're talking about, too. They go above and beyond to access your fitness needs, and they create a custom program designed for you to reach your fitness goals. I honestly can not go back to a regular gym after being at Fitlife. It's actually fun to workout, and less of a chore. They recently incorporated the MyZone Program into the gym. MyZone is a heart-rate monitor system.. when you wear your belt, your heart rate appears on the big TVs at the gym. Depending on the intensity of your workout, you accumulate "MEPs" which help you gauge how well of a workout you're getting. The system REALLY helps. It makes you compete with yourself (For me, I'm always trying to stay in the high yellow to red level) as well as others. FitLife makes MyZone fun too... for the months of July 2013 and August 2013, they have a contest-- get to 5,000 MEPs and be entered into a grand prize.. every 500 MEPs over that gets you another entry. I love ALL of it. The classes are fun and keep you moving for a solid hour on all kinds of strength, cardio, and functional exercises. And the class size is perfect. Not too big, not too small. The obstacle course in the back is great for practice for any mud run. The facility itself is awesome with just about anything you can think of inside on the turf area, including a place to practice rope climbing! The personal trainers are the best thing about this place. Mike is my trainer and he is ridiculously fit and training for ANW himself. He is very knowledgeable about fitness and nutrition and extremely patient when teaching me about both! Personal training is not inexpensive, but I really feel like he is taking the time to put together customized training that is completely specific to helping me achieve my goals and address my weaknesses. I'm excited to come in. I am exhausted when I leave, but also really pumped up by the workout and looking forward to more. He's a kick-ass trainer. Another trainer there, Brian, has also been extremely supportive and I can't believe he taught me how to climb a rope in one session. He's so upbeat. And all of the other trainers have been really welcoming and generous with high-five throwing as well. It is a great place to train. I have a Spartan annual pass this year and these guys are definitely helping me get Beast-ready!
