The superb quality of coaching and teaching has allowed my kids to develop physically as well as emotionally during the short time they have been students here. Based off of my children's experience, if you are someone looking into a Gymnastics school in the area, I highly recommend you give Ricochets a visit. I'm sure your child/children will immediately ask after their first session when they could come back again! Aside from the Gymnastics aspect, Ricochets also provides additional services (camps; birthday parties; "babysitting" aka Kids Night Out) that my family and I take advantage of whenever we have the time to. If my kids had a choice, I'm pretty sure they would try to fit everything they can at Ricochets but the kids don't always get what they want, . The staff does a great job at keeping all of the events safe, fun, and physical. It's great having the kids bond with other kids while Mommy and Daddy go out for a nice dinner. Anyways, if you didn't catch my vibe already, I highly recommend this gym. Keep in mind my kids aren't on the competing side (yet) so I cannot speak on that portion of the business. I spoke with Kyle the day before we arrived and we arranged for my 12 yr old to drop in tonight. He had a lot of fun and it was great for him to experience a different environment. The atmosphere was great- welcoming. We enjoyed watching a bit of the warm up games and sparring that went on. Adequate gear available in multiple sizes (unlike our experience at home). Marshal Davis and the other coaches have managed to create the kind of club where you can quickly feel you are part of a community of truly diverse ages and experience levels, from kids to adults, and Marshal's (successful but friendly) students from Swarthmore College will sometimes come by too. If I were looking for a place to start to learn fencing, this is where I would go--the folks at Liberty train their fencers to learn fast and hit the ground running, though you'll receive all the appropriate guidance along the way. Liberty also hosts tournaments every week, and I highly recommend trying one out. I've found the atmosphere to be low-pressure and collegial, while still working hard to fence well. When possible, they like to run a 45-touch relay after the regular event, with both fencing and social benefits. TL;DR: Solid fencing, diverse group, welcoming and fun.

If you could imagine the quintessential day camp, this would be it. Everything that is fun under the sun, and great for rainy days too. Great lunch program, with lots of choices for picky eaters. Excellent swim program. Last year, our granddaughter tried out an overnight camp, but missed Briarwood, so she's back again this year and happy about it. One very cool thing is that since the inception of this camp, each bunk makes their own plaque every summer with their bunk name and year which are then hung up. It was amazing to our granddaughter to see her mother's and her aunt's plaques from when they were campers decades ago.

They have multiple swimming pools, a rock climbing wall, all sorts of sports, gymnastics, boating, fishing, art, ceramics, minigolf...I'm sure I'm forgetting something because the activities seem endless. It has the feel of a "real" camp of days past, where there are no screens...just new friends, camp songs, bunk shows, and dance-offs. For me, the best part of Briarwood is that my kids come home LITERALLY arguing over who will tell me about their day first. They talk all through dinner about all the exciting things they did at camp. Prior to Briarwood, my kids spent their summers at different weekly camps, but the stress of managing that logistics became too much to handle. Briarwood offers transportation and they give the kids lunch, snacks, and plenty of water, which makes MY summer so much easier. One of the most impressive things is the tenure of the Briarwood staff. The counselors of each "bunk" call parents before the start of camp to introduce themselves and to learn about the kids. Some of the counselors I've talked to have been there for 20+ years, starting as campers themselves!! My oldest child has already talked about how he can't wait to eventually be a CIT (counselor in training) and how he hopes he will be able to be a counselor one day. Bottom line, the owners, Matt and Mike have built an incredible camp and I tell them every year that I'm so grateful that they create this experience for my kids. Knowing that my kids are out of the house being active, well cared fore, and making friends (and memories!) is priceless. My only complaint is I wish I could go too!!!!!

In other words, there's something for every kid. (All staff is is certified in First Aid and at least one who is on campus at all times is certified in CPR.) It's a good feeling knowing your child is in safe hands. Cannot recommend Hopwood highly enough.

The owner, in particular, seems to prioritize money over the best interests of the kids. The lack of professionalism from the owner and the administrative staff is a real issue--many months they wouldn't even have basic things like calendars available, or their communications would be inconsistent. One time they sent out an email about having a "desert bar" ... and had it spelled that way multiple times, so it wasn't just a typo. Is that who you want responsible for educating your child? Aside from all that, our son was diagnosed with some speech and socialization delays during his time at this school and entered Early Intervention. Both of his EI teachers visited his school and told us for his personal needs and learning challenges, the environment at this school wasn't right. Once we found a new school that felt like a better fit, we wanted to move our son right away, but the owner refused to let us leave without requiring dues to cover the full 30 days written notice, despite the fact that the enrollment agreement allows them to waive fees and let a student go if it is in their best interests (and we had a verbal conversation about it over 30 days before we left). For comparison, the school he moved to would have let him attend a few weeks for free just to help us do what was best for him. I wasn't surprised at all to see some other reviews on Greatschools.com that similarly echoed our experience--teachers are mostly good, but the owner/admin staff is not. And with the high level of staff turnover at these type of schools, you are relying on the owner to continually hire good people and hold them to a high standard. I would not trust the owner of this school to actually do that, at all. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this school to anyone. If your kid is a follower and fits in to a crowd, they'd probably do fine here, but you can find better. If your kid is at all unique like mine, this school has been generally unsupportive and not helpful, especially compared to his new school where the teachers and administrative staff have really gone out of their way to figure out ways to help keep our son engaged and included (that he has really responded to).
