Great Jamaican patties for a good price! This place is our go-to for delicious patties. Located in the peanut plaza mall, it's very easy to overlook this store. They also sell other items like bread and other pastries but I've only ever gotten the patties. Spicy beef, mild beef or goat curry (for those adventurous) are all great choices. Spiciness is spot on and makes for a flavorful patty. We love the flakiness of the pastry and awesome if you can go there in the morning when it's fresh and piping hot! Though make sure to not burn your mouth as the filling is super hot right in the morning. Only minor complaint is we wish the filling was a tad more meaty. You can also buy frozen full size or mini ones (makes for great party appetizers). They'll give you instructions on how to reheat. read more

3.5/4 - As I have nothing to compare it with, aside from that box of gross, yellow, frozen patties from the grocery store! Note: This location is INSIDE of Peanut Plaza and there is no direct entrance from the parking lot. PP is possibly one of the most dangerous lots that I have been to in recent times, so exercise caution if you're there. Patties themselves are an interesting, half-Stop sign shaped as opposed to half moon. You can buy them either frozen or hot. They were ~$10 (taxes in) for 6 of them, just under $2 if you're buying individually. There were various flavours such as Curry Goat, Chicken, Veg, Mild Beef, & their most popular, Spicy Beef. There is a max of 2 customers in the shop at a time, so I did feel rushed into making a quick decision as there were other customers waiting outside. When I arrived, there weren't anymore Veg and I did really want to try that one. Half of the patties were labelled while the other half were not. Tbh, they all tasted quite similar, so I wouldn't really fret too much about which ones you buy...unless you're vegetarian! The pastry itself was a tad sweet, flaky while the stuffing was tasty. Patties weren't as big as the photographs on here. Other reviewers have mentioned them shrinking in size, but they were still tasty. It has been like a decade since I've eaten those other indie Jamaican patties, so I really have nothing to compare Allan's with. I did enjoy them though! read more

All those years of going to the good old "Peanut" (Plaza) for Mr Jerk, I never knew inside the same plaza were the best patties! Ironically, most of the Mr Jerk locations sell Allan's patties! I find only the original spicy beef to be worth buying but they do have mild, chicken, veggie and other options. I always buy a box of frozen to take home, and a few from the oven to eat on the spot. Hubby adores these patties, so I look like a hero when I bring them home! This location seems to sell everything the warehouse location sells without the trip to East Scarborough. These yellow bad boys with heavenly fillings of beef, chicken, curry goat with the choice of purchasing it spicy is an exception !!! I`ve been to the best Jamaican restos located on Lawrence and Allan`s patties are through the roof with the quality factor! The Best patty I have ever had, and I have had a lot especially back in the high school days this was a great snack. the crust is buttery soft and a lightly crisp (if you buy the packs to bring home, don't over heat it, max 15mins at 350 in the mini oven) have one or 2 fresh from the store, it's soo good you will finish it in a minute, it just melts in your mouth. the mild beef and spicy beef is really good and also the curry goat! yum. the only thing is that i wish there was more filling. These patties are pretty good and different from what I have previously tried. I can see why everyone really likes this place... I believe what shines the most about their patties is their pastry. It is different compared to other Jamaican patties in this respect, but I don't know if I like the pastry as much the traditional ones. These ones are not bright yellow, perhaps they don't use tumeric powder. What's also interesting is that their patties look thicker than most patties sold elsewhere. That is mostly due to the pastry being super fluffy/flakey, not exactly stuffed with a lot of filling. My first impression of their patty is that it was very fluffy, and flakey, smelled great. The pastry is slightly sweet as well. It reminds me more of a pie crust. I've tried the spicy beef and the chicken versions. They also have mild beef version. Close to Fairview, Allan's is a jamaican bakery hidden in the run down and old plaza - Peanut Plaza (actually shaped like a Peanut in the middle of two sides of traffic north of Sheppard on don mills). The plaza hides this gem of a place. Hands down, this is the best patties in toronto. They come in spicy beef, chicken and curry goat. you can order them hot, room temperature of frozen. now don't be fooled, this is much better than a regular patty. The only way to describe them is the filling is creamy. This place is known to those who know. I travel far to get my quarterly dose of this stuff. you can buy them by the dozen for $11, and they will put them in a box, etc. A must is to buy their fresh coco buns and put the patty inside the bun and eat it like a sandwich. Pair it with a ting or a kola champagne and it's a good snack. If you go here, i recommend buying a dozen. They're addictive and everyone will want one. I absolutely love these patties, I can't be for certain but I don't think these have any preservatives, they taste fresh and are super simple to prepare, basically just stick it in the mini oven for 15 mins. These ones compared to Jamican patty from the grocery store is like night and day, no weird preservative taste, no freezer burn making the patty rock hard after heating and the beef tastes actually fresh. These are awesome for a quick snack, you can get mild, spicy and veggie. I typically get spicy as it's not really 'that' spicy, just enough. This location is kinda tough as parking is a nightmare but is in my general location so I put up with it. Tip: Buy the pre-backed frozen packs, as it's easily reheated in the mini oven and comes out crisp. As well both locations are closed on Sunday. read more

Word of Allan's delicious pastries has spread even to Brampton! My classmate just brought Allan's beef patties in for our class potluck. Two boxes of patties for the 12 or so of us. They're not hot, but they're still ridiculously good. I'll also attest to the amazing things that are their goat patties. I haven't had their cocktail patties since my 2 star review, so I wouldn't advise getting those, but their regular sized patties are delicious and sooo cheap for what you're getting. Side note: They're great from the freezer. Pop them in the oven for 10 minutes and they make a great quick breakfast/lunch/snack. read more

We raced to the plaza and ordered two each (less than $2 each) and I have to say these were KILLER. Fluffy, flaky, warm pastries filled with tender meat! There's beef patties (mild, medium, spicy), curried goat, chicken, and one other I'm forgetting. Super affordable and appropriate for any time and occasion. Went here today for the first time, and was excited given the glowing reviews. I'd say it was fine, but I wasn't as blown away as others. Being touted as the best patty ever and all that, maybe it set the bar too high. I enjoyed it, though. The crust was flaky and nice, and the fillings had good flavour. First I got a curry goat patty, since I'd never had a jamaican patty with goat in it. I thought it was interesting and definitely brought something new to the table. It was spicier than I expected, and overall satisfying. Then after some shopping nearby, I went back and ordered combo 2. I got a mild beef patty, a coco bun, and a peanut punch ($2.75). The value was good. I liked the softness of their coco bun, but I felt it didn't add much to the equation. I live quite close to Allwyn's (another well known jamaican patty institution) and I don't think Allan's did enough for me to warrant the trip, at least not often. If anything, the big omission was coleslaw. My favourite item to get at Allwyn's is a "patty on a bun with slaw"... he puts the patty in the bun for you, then throws in a nice helping of delicious coleslaw. It pairs so well. In my eyes, the slaw is the star of the meal, and it's what elevates it from good to great. To me, that's the point of the coco bun -- to act as a housing so the coleslaw doesn't go anywhere. Having just gotten the patty and a bun today, it felt empty -- the patty is already wrapped in its own high-carb breading... what's the point of wrapping it in even more empty filler? Essentially, it was missing that satisfying creamy yet crunchy slaw I love so dear. Would I go back? I would, if only because of the extra variety. Allwyn's generally only has mild and spicy beef, and rarely has chicken/veggie. Allan's seems to keep all 5 on hand at all times. The goat was worth it since it's unique and has a nice taste. If I went back, I'd get just patties on their own (either fresh or a dozen to go) but I don't see myself making a trip to Peanut Plaza just for this. Overall, I found it good enough to get 4 stars. Allan's sells the regular size and miniature, "cocktail" size in frozen format, but only regular sized patties are available ready-to-go. I was so excited that I bought a pack of 12 frozen spicy beef patties, plus a warmed up goat and beef patty to eat on the spot/standing outside of the neighbouring Dollarama, because I'm just classy like that. These patties have a fluffy, slightly sweet outer pastry that envelopes a few tablespoons of filling. Though even at its maximum spiciness level, registers at a mild to me. Like, seriously mild. What Thai places call "Caucasian-people mild". T'was OK. After seeing Allan's rank relatively high on many patty reviews and "best of" lists, I was expecting a brain-splosion of awesome beefy goodness, but I felt there just wasn't enough filling for the outside to inside ratio. Considering they work out to a mere $1.17 cost per frozen patty though, I can't exactly complain (one box of 12 frozen, regular sized patties will set you back $14)...but I sure do wish there was more filling! read more

In this rundown part of town, in this rundown plaza you will find this gem. I kid you not when I confess that these are probably the best patties I have ever had in Toronto. Forget Tastee's, Geroge's...or whatever patty shops you've been to. This is the ONLY place that does patty righteousness. I am no patty connoisseur and I probably don't know what an authentic patty should be like but I would say 90% of the patties I have had in Toronto tastes like frozen patties that have been sitting under the heat lamp for the past 2 and a half weeks. The patties here are moist, juicy (yes, this is a bold claim but it's true), tender and flaky. So go ahead, knock back at least 3 of these, they are less than a buck each. I'm not sure why everyone is raving about these being the best patties ever. Yes, the shell is different than your usual patty. It's a little bit sweeter and I wasn't a really big fan of that. The filling was okay but I feel like they skimped a bit on the amount . I prefer Tastee's beef patties. It also doesn't help that they are located in Peanut Plaza. Driving in that area can be hectic. I don't think it's worth going out of your way to come here but if you're in the area why not pick up a dozen to keep in the freezer. read more

It's been around for years. I didn't even know it existed until my friend brought me here. It's a hidden gem, surrounded by big competition like McDonalds, Popeye's and PizzaPizza. Every very time I eat no name patties from a supermarket, I'm sad that it's not from here. It has changed my life. It's so cheap and the amount they prepare for a day is amazing. When you take a bite of the patty, it's so flaky. The juices that you see and the amount of meat inside is just right. All the flavours are great. I have tried every single one of them and prefer goat the most. The owner is nice and friendly, always with a smile and so happy to customers. My friend and I would always order and walk around while eating it only to circle back for another one with the owner always smiles and saying ' you again?'
