    Spicy beef patty
    Ann R.

Allan's is a staple in Scarborough. I use to go here all the time with my dad as a kid. I have to say that recently the quality has gone down. I miss the homemade coconut drops! The packaged ones are fine but I really miss the homemade ones. The beef patty i got was cold, not warm, not a feeling of warmth. It was cold! That was disappointing considering she got it from the warmer there. I went home to heat it up, I really wanted to eat something warm. I also purchased a coconut tart and a plantain tart as well. The beef patty after warming it up was just ok. I love the pastry, flaky and delicious but the lack of filling couldn't save this beef patty. There is way too much pastry and not enough filling. The filling itself is delicious! Imagine a nicely filled beef patty oozing with this yummy filling? I would have loved that and have memories of it being like that but sadly things have changed with this place and really not for the better. Service is friendly and efficient. I will revisit and hopefully things will improve.

    Jamaican Plantain Tart

It's been years since I've had a Jamaican Plantain Tart. If you're unfamiliar, it's a sweet ripe plantain mixture, wrapped in a flaky dough sprinkled with sugar. It's a bit similar in appearance to an apple turnover. This one was made by Allan's Pastry Shop in Scarborough. They usually sell out early so plan your trip to go get one, or two, or a dozen!

It has been a while since I have tried Allan's patty. I had it the day after cause i was so full from dinner and bubble tea. But the next morning it was still amazing! It is so flakey and full of filling. I enjoy the fact that it does not look like a typical patty but very unique in its own special way! I tried the regular beef patty and will for sure come back for the spicy version.

These patties are perfect in every way. We got veggie and spicey beef. Excellent. The soft, warm, flaky crust. The perfectly flavoured filling. Wow! I tried the plantain tart and just not a fan of the odd filling and colour. Plantain is yellow so not sure why it's red in the middle. Not my thing. One important thing they offer are dozen patties in bags ( any flavour) for 9.50. They sell goat, chicken and beef and veggie. bag is cheaper than the box which is $13.50. The bag is probably cheaper because maybe leftovers from previous batches or just not the perfect shape or size. Either way it's an amazing deal. Best lunch is a patty and ting! After that, everything is irie!!

Self assembled coco bun (0.70) + spicy beef patty (1.45)

Jamaican patties... legit brings me back to my elementary and high school days. It's what all the kids ate as a quick lunch from the convenience store or as a snack during track meets. Even in uni, patties are always sold as a quick bite. BUTTTT, forget about those old neon yellow patties filled with questionable meat mush.... the patties here at Allan's are like those patties you had X100000. These are SOOOOOO much better. IMO, the best Jamaican patties I've had so far. Their outer pastry is more buttery, less flakey, and not as dry as the frozen yellow patties. And the spicy beef is actually recognizable as beef, also seasoned well! Tried the OG coco bread + patty combination, tbh I'm not a fan. The bread itself is nice, it's just a basic sweet n soft white bun. It's not a bad-tasting combination or anything, I just personally don't find the bun to really add anything of value to the patty. UNLESS, your goal is to bulk up that patty and carb load LOL. In addition to patties, they also sell their own various types of bagged bread. They also have a display case of a few desserts - they had plantain tarts that looked pretty interesting. Allan's is located on Kennedy in the same plaza as Ming's (that Chinese resto that you'll see facing Kennedy). Even on a weekday afternoon this place had a stream of customers coming in and out, thisssss is how you know it's gucci a f here. FYI, there aren't any tables to sit down and eat, it's exclusively grab n go here (just sit in your car and eat and get crumbs all over your seat like me LOL).

Stopped by to pick up a couple of patties. I know this place has been here for a long time and I forgot how their patties were. I've tried the curry goat, which is good but not much curry flavour and the mild beef which is good. I like that the patty doesn't have the strong yellow colour, it seems more natural. Overall, definitely a good patty compared to the grocery store ones!

Love the spicy beef Pattie's, the crust is flaky and the filling is just the right spice and really flavourful.

    Patty and Coco bread

Five star pastry, two star filling make for a 3.5 patty eating experience! What We Got: dozen patties, mixed and match, ready to eat. 4 each of goat, vegetarian, and beef. Cocobread with patty inside. What We Liked: pastries are buttery soft crumble in your mouth wonders What We Didn't: filling isn't bad, there's just so little of it! What I'd Try Next: extra filling option for more money, I think. Have to see if it's worth it. Located on the south side of the plaza following google maps. It's a simple place with minimal decor. Walk up to the counter and order! Lines of cocobread on the side along with some drinks but those didn't interest me.

This is THE place to get your Jamaican patties. As far as taste goes the crust is flaky and buttery and the filling is savoury and well seasoned. Now the filling is thin but you have to remember you're only paying $1.80 per patty so it's more of a snack than a meal. Plus they use 100% meat in their patties, no fillers. Carol L. - it does look like you had a bad patty but I'm sure if you would have brought it up to the attention of the staff they would have replaced it with a fresh one. I've never had a bad patty from them but I've always ordered the ones warm from the oven. My favorite ones are the spicy beef and goat. I also buy their individual Appleton Rum Cake and chocolate rum cake. Cakes are oh so moist with just enough sweetness.

Curry goat patty... best in town!

No doubt, BEST patties in town :) The bakery is hidden away behind Ming's Restaurant on Kennedy Road (near Steeles Avenue). This Jamaican bakery is really as good as it gets :) The quality of their products are always fresh or they are kept frozen, pre-packaged and ready for you to take home! I've been craving curry goat patty for months, and finally I got to enjoy a fresh one yesterday for lunch :D Most satisfying feeling after taking first couple bites into it and I devoured it in seconds hehehe :) The curry has a kick to it, but not too, too spicy... it was just right. Also, I bought a frozen box of curry goat patties to take home. One box contains 12 patties, which cost $11.00 to 11.75 depend on what flavours you order... other choices include beef (mild/spicy), vegetable, and chicken. #worthyourmoney I also got the Mango cake and Chocolate rum cake :D The rum was quite strong *yay* so delish. I'm definitely going back for more goodies next weekend :)

The curry Goat patty is delicious! I only get the curry goat patties here so I can not speak for the other patties or foods yet. The Curry Goat has a good kick of spiciness but it's not too hot to handle. It's got great flavour, not too salty. the crust is buttery flaky and smooth, not hard or crispy. I can eat 10 of these. I always get one to go and a box for later (which I always finish within a week!) Can not resist these yummy patties when you know it's sitting in the freezer. baking it for around 15mins and it tastes just like it came right out of the store!

Patties..... Nothing divides more people then who has the best Jamaican patties around. Its kinda like who makes the best smart phones, burgers or even cars. Each person has a preference and everyone swears by it. Its pretty much a given though that the GTA has some of the best ones anywhere. One of the big hitters has always been Allan's Pastry Shop. This is the actual factory where the patties are made. The thing that sets them apart from the competition is the shell. The shells by Allan's are more of a pastry shell. Soft layered buttery shells that really stand out from any other patty maker out there. I have friends and family members who will not eat any other patty except Allan's. Allan's also has a good variety of patties as they have regular and spicy beef, chicken, vegetarian and even curry goat which you rarely see. Patties come either individually or in boxes of a dozen, cooked or uncooked. The only weak part of Allan's is that the filling is on the small side and not as filling or as good as my favourite ones Patty Time or Randy's. Allan's also sell a variety of breads and baked goods and on Friday and Saturdays (they close on Sundays) they have items like meat pies and callaloo. So whether I give a 1 star or 5 star it doesn't really matter as Allan's lovers will continue to defend their love of their patty. 4/5!

I bought a couple of buns as a customer since then and I'm hooked! Bun Appetit is located at Commerce Gate. It's located closer to Highway 7. It's around the corner from Kinton Ramen, which I have been to a handful of times during the pandemic to pick up good eats. I found a parking spot steps away from Bun Appetit on a Wednesday evening at around 6:15 pm and backed in to it. It's easier to find parking when it's a weekday, in the afternoon. Bun Appetit's breads are naturally fermented for 168 hours. I liked that all buns and breads are gut-friendly and low on the glycemic index. I'm always interested in lower sugar options. I have sampled these items: - Baguette - Whole wheat walnut vegan bun - Lychee bun - Raisin earl grey bun - Oreo chocolate delight bun - Matcha pistachio pretzel - Whole wheat German pretzel - Yeast loaf with Nutella They were all delicious. They were soft and airy. My favourites were the whole wheat walnut vegan bun and the Oreo chocolate delight bun (also known as the messy hands bun). The former had whole walnuts that were so crunchy and fresh. The bread was chewy and soft. The messy hands bun used dark chocolate. It was also fluffy and soft. It lived up to its name. I had messy fingers just eating a morsel! It has 9 g of sugar, which is practically nothing being fermented. I liked how unique the flavours were. I loved the smell of the lychee bun. I wish it had lychee pieces in it. Instead, it was wine-infused and that flavour overpowered everything. I loved the yeast loaf with Nutella as a dessert option. I nearly picked up a loaf after this event was over! As a parting snack, I got the truffle mushroom one. It was the last one. I love mushrooms. It was super delicious with truffle oil, enoki mushrooms, spinach, garlic, and melted cheeses on top. The bun was soft and perfect. It was such a gourmet bun. I have since returned to get more buns: - Strawberry beetroot - Chocolate arancia The strawberry beetroot bun was fluffy. I decided to cut it in half. To my surprise and joy, it had whole strawberries in it. Wow and yay! I love fruit, but I wasn't expecting so much of it in this bun. I loved it. It was naturally sweet from the strawberries. The beetroot wasn't noticeable in flavour. I feel it added colour to the triangular bun more than anything. The chocolate arancia was equally as unique slicing it in half. This bun had candied orange bits in it. It tasted so good with the chocolate morsels on top and the subtle chocolate flavour in the bun itself. It was delicious. I need to return for more. I have found the buns of my dreams, which sounds odd and funny. It's all true! I paid with a credit card. You can register your phone number to collect points towards goodies. I'll be back. (185)
