I was craving Jamaican patties and wanted to try George's Tastee. It has been years since my last visit. Food: $4.60 for 2 patties Extra Spicy Beef Patty - my favourite! It wasn't too spicy for me, Sriracha would be way spicier in comparison, I didn't have to drink water after each bite, easily scarfed it down Regular Spicy Beef Patty - I didn't really taste much spiceness tbh Overall, the filling was sufficient in each patty and was nicely seasoned, and the bread was more crumbly than flaky. Personally, I prefer a more flaky patty. Also, the temperature of each patty was perfect, since I didn't burn my tongue at all! Pricing was affordable as well. I would rank their patties as the best but it's definitely up there and I would visit again! Service: Barely any wait on a Wednesday at 3:45pm. Tip: This place accepts cash and debit cards only. I have passed by this George's Tastee for ages. It's on the north side of Denison Street, between Victoria Park and Pharmacy. It's the main production location where you can get bread that have been freshly baked, and, of course, Jamaican patties. I have been visiting Tastee's east Markham location regularly as of late. I've been enjoying its patties that I needed to restock. I came to this location after work yesterday, on a late Thursday afternoon. It was a beautiful, unseasonably warm day. I walked in with a t-shirt and joggers on with the temperature at 18°C. I backed into a parking spot a few steps away from the main entrance. I then walked in. I let my nose get me to the main counter. There was a display case full of hot patties. It smelled incredible. It was enjoyable browsing. I saw everything from Limacol after-shave lotion (a total eye-opening experience as someone who doesn't shave her face) to bags of salted cod bits. I kept thinking about ackee and saltfish after looking at the latter. I am a beverage person. I enjoyed looking at drinks with island flare. The Grace peanut punch still sticks in my head. I need to get a drink box and check it out. The large inviting fridge with what looked like endless boxes of frozen patties. made me so happy. Veggie. Chicken. Non-spicy beef. Regular spicy beef. Spicy beef. There is something for everyone. My favourite is the regular spicy beef. I find that it's cheaper to get a dozen patties here at $15. The McCowan location lists a box at $15.50. There isn't tax on top of the price. The difference in price is likely because the McCowan location allows you to pay with a credit card. It also has hot foods. It's cheaper getting a box of 24 patties for $24.25. If you get five cases or more of 24 patties, the price goes down to $22 per case. I love patties. I don't think that I can do a box of 24 patties unless I am having a party or I eat patties all day, every day. I learned when I got to the counter that you can only pay with cash or a debit card. I walked in with a credit card. I got the most understanding woman with blue hair at the payment counter. I let her know that I didn't have a debit card on me and had to head to my car to fetch it. She was great and nodded. I returned in less than a minute armed with my debit card. I thanked her for her patience. I tapped and was good. She asked if I needed the receipt. I took it. I was happy that the box of patties were mine. I wished her a wonderful day. She reciprocated. I left with a cheerful box of patties. Maybe I should get a 24-pack of patties next time. I've already had three. The regular spicy is perfect. It has a slight spicy kick with yummy, seasoned beef in each patty. I want to try the veggie and chicken ones next. I should broaden my horizons, but I love the regular spicy. It's difficult to break buying and consuming what you love. I have heard that this place used to offer hot food. I didn't see that offering when I was there. I suppose that the McCowan location handles it now. I want to get the oxtail. It looked incredible. I'm happy that I finally visited this location. I need to remember to bring a debit card whenever I'm here. I rarely have cash on me, so it's a debit card from now one. If you want yummy patties that don't break the bank, come here. WHAT I ATE - Canada @ George's Tasty Patty Markham, ON Canada This is the first of our three part review of three Jamaican Beef Patty shops we visited when vacationing in the Toronto Canada suburb of Markham. We tried George's Tastee Patty during the Thanksgiving weekend. Unfortunately, many other Patty Shops were closed that weekend. George's had a good amount of meaty filling, and a good spice mix for their regular patty. Very nice crust that was tender and flaky, but still firm enough to eat on the run. I know I shouldn't eat in the car, but I cannot resist a hot, savory Jamaican Beef Patty when it's sitting next to me in the car! George's has an interesting pricing structure with a fresh, hot out of the oven patty being the most expensive. Room temperature patties are a few cents cheaper and frozen paties being the cheapest. The staff are always friendly and ready to explain some of the other Jamaican menu items for those unfamiliar with the cuisine. The store is super clean, but we visited their factory headquarters which did not have dine-in seating. Just a little Jamaican convenience store in the front. We'll bring a box of frozen patties home on our next trip! I've been coming to Tastee for many years, all their locations. This one, on Denison is their main production facility where they bake fresh breads and Jamaican patties and also serve up some good Jamaican food. The curry mutton and oxtail are my favourites but they also have jerk chicken, jerk pork, burgers, sandwiches, poutine, and more. They're always busy at lunch time, from the surrounding businesses and I always seem to run into people that I know. It's a meeting place. On this visit, with a couple of friends, we shared some beef patties, oxtail poutine, and a combo of curry mutton and oxtail with rice and peas. The food, as usual, was enjoyable and plentiful. This is my go to place for patties. The very best in the GTA in my opinion. I was In town last week and just had to drop in for a dozen. The lady behind the counter offered me a complimentary patty when I mentioned that I was a bit hungry. What a sweetheart. I have also purchased jerk wings in there shop next door. I was driving by through this industrial area and noticed this place was busy, so it got my attention I should stop here for lunch. Was at the tail end of the rush so no lines but the tables were mostly occupied. There are 2 different line ups and cashiers- one was the hot food for sandwiches and jerk food and the other is for the patties and bread/bakery. So I went to both to satisfy my stomach's curiosity. Got 6 pack of patties beef & veg with normal spice, and the special jerk chicken with extra sauce (as other Yelpers suggested). Please note: The dinner comes with either choice of slaw OR rice, REALLY?? This is where stars were lost, as the combo of slaw to cut the curry sauce is key with the essential rice & peas, you cannot pick just one but both need to be part of the meal. I did takeout and he did a great job filling the box until it managed to just close. Another star lost was for the filling of the patty. There's enough so when you bite, you don't lose any filling but lacking that your mouth is questioning this surprise. Normal was not spicy enough for me, I thought I was average spice level but I guess I should have asked for the next level up. The jerk was also a mild spice, but this extreme winter chill may be to blame for my taste buds. Man I've been on serious Caribbean food crawl recently as half my recent reviews have been from Caribbean joints! Why? Cause it tastes so good that's why! And how can one not talk about Caribbean food in Markham without talking about George's Tastee? This place is a local landmark that has been here forever and still going strong. Not only is this the central hub where their famous Tastee's Patties are made but they also serve solid Jamaican fare such as jerk and pork chicken, curry chicken and mutton and of course oxtail! The patties come in a variety of styles and heat tolerance such as beef, chicken and vegetables. I still prefer the likes of Patty Time and Randy's but they are still solid fare. They also have a large variety of baked goods such such as hardo bread and there is even a cash and carry area where you can buy patties in bulk. Over the years they have opened up satellite stores but this is where the original has been all these years as many of the people who come here for lunch are locals who work in the area. I wish it had more beef filling, seemed a little on the light side. I'm always driving along Denison and their sign on beef patties always makes me curious. Finally, I stopped and went inside the restaurant side. It was packed! There's a line up on their ready prepared food like oxtail stew with rice, jerky chicken, sandwiches etc. They look good and must try it next time. Then I went to the next door warehouse where they have freezers of beef or goat patties. I took the box of 24 regular spicy for $17. It's a good price. Also got a big bag of plantain banana chips for $5 looks like it's freshly made. Now I can report that they are very good patties! Went to Tastee's for lunch with a pal. First of all, I had no idea how big it was in there. Lots of tables for patrons. I just assumed it was just a huge@$$ bakery factory with no seats. The jerk pork is quite delicious. If you order the medium it'd come w/ pilaf rice (actually i'm not sure what type of rice it was but it reminds me of pilaf lmao). It was about $5.99 or 6.99. My friend had to pack it for lunch the next day. I ordered a burger (approx $3.50) and it wasn't bad ! Almost like Harveys aka I know i'm probably not eating an odd part of a cow (at least i hope!)....it was good :) Next time I'll try the jerk chicken ! I found the jerk pork had a bit of fat on it...no biggie just cut it out. Service was alright & they were all very polite. I would def. come back for lunch again as it's semi close to my office. The portions are generous and you can also treat it a bit like a grocery store as they have frozen items and bread for sale as well. This location is terrible. Ordered 2 beef spicy patties and the patties were dry. Their other locations ( Donmills and also Mccowan) makes much better patties. I must begin by stating the fact that I've NEVER reviewed a restaurant or a fast food take out before. I found it necessary to post a review in this particular circumstance. To begin, I just stopped by George Tastee Patties on Dennison and Victoria Park in Markham. I picked up a box of frozen vegetable patties, a drink and went to the counter to purchase two (2) warm vegetable patties to eat. I noticed that they were using only one "tong" for both the vegetable and meet patties. I asked if they could use a different tong. The "gentleman" at the counter serving me said NO! He went on to say that's not how we do business here. I asked if I could get two of the frozen vegetable patties from the back to be warmed up. He asked how he would retrieve the patties. I suggested that he use the patty bags or paper towel. After grumbling and now clearly frustrated, he went to retrieve the patties. I asked if he could warm them up and he was now quite perturbed. I stated that I would gladly wait for Jim to finish with the waiting customers. When there was no more customers I re-approached him and asked if he could kindly warm it up. He reluctantly said yes but that he would charge me a service fee. I said absolutely not! I stated that all I was asking for was just to warm it up. At this point, he started yelling and swearing. Clearly belligerent, he went on to say that I can open my own restaurant and do things my way. He then pulled a "Karen" on me by threatening to call the police. At this point, realizing how extremely unprofessional, discourteous, and down-right disgusting the "service" or lack thereof was, I decided to leave. This is the main factory and cafeteria for George's operation. They've been around forever. I already reviewed their newest place already and my view is the same. This is a great place to get patties, Caribbean foods, sandwiches and burgers. It's a local hot spot for all the industrial and office buildings nearby. I usually buy a six pack of extra spicy and walk it into my client's office. I use it as a bribery tool. You won't believe what you can get for some of these golden pockets of goodness. read more

Have purchased patties from here for years, they were always good, full of meat and great pastry. Very disappointed in the last box I purchased, patties contained very little meat but lots of breadcrumb filler. I opened one and found actual lumps of breadcrumbs..horrible. The pastry has changed as well , not so good anymore. They have fallen victim to the charge more and provide less syndrome. Needless to say they've lost me as a customer. read more

So I'm addicted to Tastee's Patties but I wanted to leave this review because I noticed that they've messed up the batches somehow and when I bought a box of mild without the red dot, they were EXTREMELY spicy! Then I bought another box of the same thing and again, extremely spicy. So I told my mom and she was like "well mine have the dot and they're not spicy at all" so I googled to see if the red dot meant spicy or not spicy and of course, it means spicy. I'm eating one right now with the red dot and it's not extremely spicy, it's delicious btw. Anyway, someone at the factory has the meats messed up lol, I don't care either way but I wanted to share. I buy about two boxes every week and a half so I've gone through about 6-7 boxes in the last couple months and have had the same experience. Best spicy beef patties, EVER!! I wish they made a version with double the beef in the patties. I'd pay a premium for those!

The patties (the main reason why I came) are "okay" or even "good", but not great. They certainly satisfy the patty craving but otherwise they're not the best patties I've ever had in the GTA. They also serve hot plates, which was pretty good. I had their jerk chicken meal for lunch and it hit the spot. Again, not great, but good. There's a lot of dining space if you plan to stay there for lunch, but there isn't a whole lot of parking spots available. Maybe a dozen at most, of which I suspect some are occupied by the staff. Speaking of the staff, they aren't rude, but they're not super friendly either. They just kind of go about the motions, almost cafeteria-like. Yes, that's the word, cafeteria. This place reminds me of a cafeteria. I may return the next time I have a patty craving, but for Caribbean style food there is a better option in the nearby area. read more

If I have forgotten my lunch (or been too lazy to make one) and need to quickly jump out and get something - I go here. Prices are cheap and the jerk pork is great. That could really be their slogan. This place is always busy and the parking lot can be a bit of a dodge game, but it is worth it. I recommend the patties, jerk pork and rice and peas. They have burgers, etc on the menu, but I haven't tried those (yet). Avoid the gravy - it is a bit too salty. If you want some sauce on your rice (hello - who doesn't?!) ask for the curry sauce. They also have a little grocery store and in house bakery (haven't tried those yet either). read more

The husband and I are always in search for a good Jamaican restaurant and I think we found our go to spot in Toronto. Daily specials are flashed on a monitor next to the main menu. Grabbed a few goodies from here. Got one extra spicy beef patty $1.35 each - I have never had a beef patty which I thought was spicy. This one was a tiny bit spicy only even though they call it extra spicy. The outer shell was not really flaky and the inside was not really juicy. A decent patty. I still got a dozen frozen patty's which I think was $7.99. Also got an oxtail rice and peas meal for about $10. Price is on the lower end when comparing with other places. The oxtail was not spicy and was not really fall off the bone tender. There was a lot of extra fat left on the oxtail too which made it more difficult to eat. Not that impressed with the oxtail meal. Finally I also grabbed some kind of coconut pastry dessert. Tasted pretty good. Its the same kind of sweet coconut shavings that you find in those Chinese coconut buns. 3.3 stars rounding down to 3.. Was in the area and wanted something quick.. Thought of getting a beef patty while running errands in the area.. Who doesn't elbow tasty patties?!? Plenty of parking in a industrial area setting.. Walked into a cafeteria setting restaurant and saw the curry chicken dinner listed as the combo of the day $8.50.. Including a can of Diet Coke. Total came up to $10.75.. The rice and peas looked pretty bland and unimpressive when plated.. But surprisingly it had a really good kick in the flavour.. 4 stars.. Dinner came with 1 chicken leg chopped in 4 pieces.. The chicken was ok.. Was tender..the curry flavour would be 2.9 stars.. Nothing special.. But when you walk in, the aura of the restaurant looks like the food would be 4 stars experience with food court service.. Also had a beef patty for take-out which I ate driving off.. tasted just like the frozen ones you but under the same brand name.. I would expect it to taste better.. Decent jerk chicken & pork. The chicken was definetly moist but the skin tasted bland and soft no crisp at all. The pork on the other hand...i personally think that it tastes better. Has more flavor and probably cause it was so fatty! The rice and beans was too soft for my likings.. I can tell that this place is definetly a hit because it took me 30mins to find a spot.. And not to mention people just kept going in the restaurant/bakery anyway.. IMO the food is decent.. But i definetly recommend you to try this place first! read more

Not sure what these Yelpers are excited about. The food was mediocre at best. I had the Grilled Chicken sandwich. The chicken was pre cooked and only grilled to achieve the grill marks. I watched the cook grilled the buns, but some how it was still cold. The prices were fair... I guess everyone love the sausage rolls. read more

By far the best oxtail dinner ever! At one point I was coming in here at least 2 or 3 times a week for the oxtail...yes, its that good! All their dinners (jerk chicken, jerk pork) are a great deal. Huge portions of juicy, tender, flavorful chicken or pork and rice & peas. The jerk pork sandwich and subs are great too when I'm not in the mood for food overload!
