I remember first encountering Jamaican beef patties at a shop at Warden station. You could buy it in a bun. It smells so good but I grew up poor and didn't have much spending money so I wondered for a long time... did it taste as good as it smelled. When it finally got to taste it out didn't disappoint. Since then I've tried 15-20 different patties. I like a crispy pastry... some can be tender and chewy or hard and crunchy... flaky and crispy is just right. Next the filing can't be dry and pasty... but audio can't be wet and ruins the crispness. And the flavor needs a little heat but not so much that you are suffering while eating. And it must have ground beef. Not just paste. Michideans were recommended to me a couple times by friend and recently i saw it featured on YouTube so i decided to give our a try. Wow. These have become my favorite patty. Perfect pastry, and filling with really beef chuncks. Love the flavor and just enough heat. These aren't cheap compared to lesser patties but they taste the best. If the price were just a little more than the others rudeness this would be and easy 5 star but it's good percentage more. But again you get what you pay for. read more

I'll be honest here and say the beef patties are above average and deserve 4 stars. The beef filling is nice and moist and the crust is beyond flaky. The whole patty is very flavourful. But I reduced the rating to 2 stars because of the service. The service was beyond horrible and deserves only 1 star. However like I said the beef patty was ok and therefore the 2 stars. Let me describe the service experience. Upon entering, I was greeted by nobody in the small ordering room. The employees 2 of them looked at me and couldn't care less. Not even a hello or acknowledgement of my presence as a client. Only after 3-4 minutes of awkwardness did another customer walk in and proceeded to press the button. Only then did the one employee come over. Ok If that is the rule, I will play this game Fine Finally I can get some semblance of service I proceeded to order 1 dozen beef patties (1 box). I asked if the extra spicy patties were tolerable as I can't handle the heat. Again and this was the breaking point of their horrible service, the employee saids to me rather curtly and very rudely "ITS CALLED EXTRA SPICY, WHAT DO YOU THINK?" Ok I calmly retreated, paid for my order and left with an uneasy feeling. They accidently gave us the extra spicy, but it was not that spicy at all and tasted amazing, more like mild spicy. The crust to filling ratio is really good too. My boy inhaled like 4 patties in one sitting. - Chicken Patty [GET]: The chicken filling wasn't as good as the beef ones, which why the beef patties are the classic ones. My favourite beef patties! Located on the north east side of the building. They're pretty hidden, never knew they were located so close to my work place even though I drive past it everyday. Service there is fast and friendly. Beef patties are pre baked and frozen. Their flaky crust and flavour rich filling really sets them apart from the others. Especially when you get the spicy beef patties, the pepper flavour is more pronounced and I love it! Best patties known to human kind so far! Flaky crust and nice saucy beef filling (get the extra spicy, its not that spicy but tastes amazing, i tried mild, its ok). Chicken and Vege is no way close to Extra Spicy Beef but for some people that option is nice since you still get that one of a kind crust. Now... since 2018 they raised the price multiple times. $10 to $12 to NOW $15. i don't think this is acceptable within 2 years, that's a 50% increase for the same patties, even with adding inflation, coved routines, its should not be that high and on top i am getting it at the factory. My last visit, i ordered 3 dozens for $45, was slightly unhappy. At least give returning customers a discount when ordering multiple boxes, like 2 dozens for $25. Maybe create a Membership card for $10 a year for like 15-20% discount? This will ensure people come to you 3-4x year to get their card worth. If you know your margin, this might be a good way for people to recommend their friends or buy for friends. Its a win/win. So of course I expect the same treatment. However, once again I get nothing. I say once again because just the day before I experienced the same thing at Wooffle and Cream. My best friend told me I could get the best patties at the convenience store by the YONGE subway line at Bloor station, and she was not kidding. I found out Michidean makes them and eventually made my way to the Birchmount location to grab a couple dozen. The plaza is easy to find but they are in the back of the plaza. The customer service was excellent and they even hooked me up! Now, if you enjoy moist, beefy, spicy patties these are worth a try! I also love the crust as it's flaky and not too thick. My experience there was a bit surreal and not like some others. I had no idea what I was walking into. Michidean is located on the north east corner of the U-Shaped business strip. It occupies two units and for all intents and purposes, the non-descript place could be a dry cleaner, computer shop, or a grow-op! I walked in and there is a scatter of postings on the wall with prices and cut off box tops. The room is standing only as it was about 4x8 maybe in size. Not really sure what to do but to choose or not to choose to push the singular round bell button on the right of a single door. Play "Twilight Zone" theme in my head - No...not the Glowing Vampires and Overgrown doggie movie thingy! Pushed the button and promptly, a guy who looks like he is dressed in full garb slaughterhouse style - full dress gown with face mask and hair net - asks "what do you want?" Play "Friday the 13th" theme! I asked for the dozen baked extra spicy. He grabs one from a desk on the side and says $10 bucks. I looked in my wallet for some cash and he takes off his mask to reveal a full out double nostril runner!!! Ugh! Really!? Luckily the ones he handed us were packaged and wrapped already - hopefully not his handywork. He yells over to a lady who took my money. He must not be the regular "customer service" person. - hopefully! Oh...I didn't even get one to try to see if I wanted to get a box! Oh well, the lady gave me my change and I walked out with a box and an urge to use Alcohol Rub all over my exposed skin! The gravy and beef was abundant and I wish the extra spicy was spicier. Can't have too many of them as they are much richer in taste and probably calories than other patties that I've had. I like getting my patties here for lunch. It comes in a box of 12 & costs $8 ! :) Then I refrigerate or freeze them and eat one for the next 2 weeks LOL They have various flavours beef (mild, spicy), chicken, veggie... I believe there's one more but I forgot. The veggie & mild beef are my fav. I usualy get assorted. The place is run by Dillon and his daughter Michelle. The staff here are also super nice as well. One of them keeps offering patties to my dog. Unfortunately my current dog cannot eat patties though my previous dog used to inhale them w/ no probs. Def worth checking out.!
