Hired him to appear in court which he claims he appeared in person, come to find out he appeared via telephonic. never provide me with a fee agreements when I ask for one and after I gave him the $$$. he claims he will be doing this and that but never come through with it, suprised he even showed up via telephonic. did nothing in the case and refused to refund portion of the mo way back. I could of report him to the State Bar but not worth my time. Highly recommend! Myself and my codefendant were charged with multiple felonies for suspected fraud crimes involving a car crash. While both of us have no prior criminal history or record we found ourselves scared, uneasy, and confused. I hired Mr. Chan in August '16 after my brother got into some legal problems. The charges against him were pretty weak, like so weak that it took several months for the D.A.'s office to decide whether to prosecute or not; but he had two prior strikes and so many past convictions the DA decided to anyway. I had already had another attorney retained for about half of Richard's retainer and less than half the hourly fees Mr. Chan charged. But my attorney was getting manhandled in Preliminary Hearings and getting no respect from the judge on any motions and things weren't looking good. They were offering my little bro 13 years on a case based off here say. That's when I seen Richard arguing for someone else in court. He immediately got respect. The same judge dissing my attorney was on good enough terms with Mr. Chan to crack jokes and smiles in between at recess. He spoke with authority and commanded respect. Richard told me he could beat the case outright and demanded a new prelim and got it. He tracked down my accusers and witnesses and quickly the case started unraveling. He ripped apart my accuser on the stand exposing all kinds of lies. For the first time ever, I thought my brother was actually innocent! Without even needing a separate bail hearing, he got my bro's bail reduced from $500k to $250k and hooked us up with a bail agent who got my bro out for $6k down and less than 8%. The DA's offer went magically from 13 years to 6 years, but Richard didn't bite. He pushed harder. In the end, my little bro got a petty misdemeanor (expunge able in 2 years with good behavior), time served, no probation or parole, and a small fine. I feel like we won the case considering who my brother is and his background. He also helped bring my family together and we didn't even ask for that. Mr Chan was referred to me by a friend . At first I didn't like him. We actually had a disagreement in my case . However in court I watched him handle the CHP officer in a such a smooth way the CHP actually looked amateur . We had a motion to suppress as Mr Chan argued with experience and class so we won the motion and half the charges were dropped . After several thousand spent on this seven month ordeal, Mr. Chan finally provided me with an inaccurate accounting. If you are looking for someone who is down to earth, understanding, caring, and confident because he is very knowledgeable in his work, Mr. Chan is someone you want to represent you or a love one. My son had got himself into trouble and I was literally in tears when I called Mr. Chan because I didn't think my son deserved his charges which was 1 count of a misdemeanor and 1 count of a felony. Plus, I didn't feel that our public defender was going to help my son with a fair justice. I was charged with very serious felonies, including possession of cocaine for sale as well as a gang enhancement. Nothing could have been further from the truth. with the multiple felony charges, my exposure was 5 years in state prison. The district attorneys office wanted me to plead guilty to everything. I found Mr. Chan through some friends and his representation was perfect. It did cost me some money and it took longer than i wanted it to take but in the end i ended up with a single misdemeanor and some community service. Mr Chan was aggressive in cross examining the arresting officers and expert witnesses and the judge dismissed the charge alleging i possessed the items for the purpose of sales. The case took much longer than i had expected, about 8 months. About month 6 i ran out of money and felt the pressure to take a deal from the district attorney's office because i couldn't afford to pay Mr Chan, and i did not want to chance having a public defender. Mr Chan knew the offer was that i would have to take was not fair and he continued to represent me for free for the last three months. I cant thank him enough. Even when we first met Richard, he said we'd be lucky if we could get this it down to three or 4 years in prison. My husband was being charged with felony DUI and 2 felony great bodily injuries.
