As you can see from all the reviews, yes, Allegiant Air service and quality is pretty bad overall. Read the fine print folks. Yes, there are charges for Carry On baggage and check-in baggage. They also charge you for beverages and there are no hot drinks on Allegiant Air. At some airports there are no coffee places either, only a cold drink vending machine and a snack vending machine. You can avoid a seat assignment charge if you bypass that step when booking your flight and let them assign the seat especially if you don't have small children with you. Somehow my husband and I always get to sit together with unassigned seats. Some of the airports are small with no accommodations and are usually out of the city limits or off the beaten path. So, if you decide to fly Allegiant Air, here are my recommendations: 1. Get to know the surrounding area of the airport you are departing from, what are the amenities, hotels, restaurants and taxi services to get there - you may need them. 2. Bring lots of snacks - peanut butter/jelly sandwiches for the kids, fruit, protein bars. You may be stuck in the airport for hours - sometimes into the night. 3. Bring an empty water bottle through security so you can keep filling it up at the water fountain without having to pay $2.00 for a drink each time at the vending machine. 4. Bring a book, Kindle cause you may be reading a lot to kill time. 5. Make sure you put your phone cord charger in your purse or carryon to keep your phone charged. You don't want to use all your battery power entertaining yourself with your phone and then run out of battery power when it comes time to check in with the phone (bar code) - oh well! 6. Bring ear plugs to drown out noise, crying kids and loud talkers. Lastly, if you fly Allegiant Air make sure you are prepared to spend the entire day traveling. Since they only have ONE Flight a day there are no other flights to catch if they are delayed or canceled which happens quite frequently with them you will be stuck at the tiny airport in a tiny town in a tiny waiting room for a very long time. I think I'm forced to give at least one star, but I'm telling you it should be zero. I've flown Allegiant twice before and had no issues at all. Yes, the additive fees are annoying so they aren't really the absolute cheapest at all times but not bad. I purchased a ticket for a trip to see my parents this month, but had to cancel due to the flu bug going around my house. For THREE DAYS straight, I repeatedly called the 702 support line to try and cancel (rather than just forfeiting the flight and losing ALL of my money), but in more than 30 attempts a day, I got "all circuits are busy, please try your call again later." Ok, so I go through the website to cancel. Using Mac OS X and 3 different browsers, every time I got to the confirmation page for cancellation, I got "Server Error 500: Internal Server Error." Great. So I assume the site is built for Microsoft and Internet Explorer, so I switch to Windows 7. Same thing. So at this point with 48 hours before my flight, I'm unable to reach anyone via telephone, the web site is broken regardless of what OS or browser I attempted to use. To top it all off, I tried the "live chat" and I'm simply told "we can't help you, you have to call the support line or cancel on the web site." So in a last ditch effort, I email the support folks. I explained in detail everything I just wrote above. They're response? "We're sorry, we can't give out personal information over email or cancel reservations, you'll have to contact customer support at 702-xxxx or via our web site." Uh huh. So I respond and explain all of this again, and ask them to CALL ME. Nothing, no response via email, no phone call back. So I have a day job and decided I had no more time to waste on this. But here it is Sunday morning, which would be in the middle of the trip I did not take (needed to cancel), and I thought, "Why not try the 702 support number again?" I call, get through, get bounced to three different hold queues with an automated attendent telling me one minute the "average wait time is 10-15 mins, we're really busy" to "average wait time is 8 mins 29 secs...." and then get bumped to another operator asking how she can direct my call. After nearly 30 minutes of that, I get an agent. 1. Nothing he can do 2. Because I didn't cancel (or purchase trip flex) the first leg of my flight, I forfeit those $$$ entirely 3. THere is a $60 change fee, $50 forfeit per leg (x2) So the total I can get a "credit voucher" for is $5. Oh but if on the as yet unused portion I cancel my carryon bag and select seat option, I can get back another $15-20! Mind you, the entire ticket with all of the fees was nearly $200. I ask to escalate to a supervisor. "Oh we don't escalate issues sir." Me, "You mean you don't have a manager that you report to?" Him, "Of course sir, but supervisors don't take calls. You can write a letter and send via postal mail, and you will definitely get a response. Me: "I understand the change fees and I'm aware of them, that's not my issue. I couldn't contact you via phone for three solid days, and using many browsers on two different operating systems, your web site did not work (and I have been in Internet technology for 25 years, I know web servers, etc). So I think I shouldn't have to forfeit a flight that I couldn't contact you about." Him: "Well sir, we have no way to prove you couldn't reach us by phone or web. We don't know if the phone lines are working for you or not..." Wow, I'm done, it's over, and I will never fly Allegiant Airlines again, and I'll do my best via Yelp and other places to discourage anyone else from using them. Yes, all airlines are major pain in one way or the other, I love none of them. But I fly over 50K miles a year (usually between United and US Air) and at LEAST I have escalation paths when things go wrong, and people I can actually talk to, managers I can escalate to. None of them are perfect, but Allegiant is flat out horrible and frankly given my experience above, just a scam of an airline. Epic fail, Allegiant. read more

So incredibly disappointed -my husband's flight from Grand Rapids to Phoenix was canceled today without apology or explanation. They have provided a hotel room voucher for the night and a voucher for eight dollars for a meal, which does not begin to cover the cost of inconvenience. The only flight to Phoenix that they have offered is 24 hours past the time of the original flight leaving Grand Rapids. Customer service via phone is less than helpful. "Nothing we can do". If you are flying with other people and don't pay the extra seat charge, they randomly assign you seats no where close to one another. $2 for a can of soda during the flight. Don't bother buying tickets at the airport - I waited 3+ hours in line. 5-6 Allegiant staff members socialized while only one person was helping the 50+ people in line to buy tickets. I'd give them 0.01 stars if I could. I applaud this airline for the worst experience ever! I've flown on domestic and international flights before this one. I used this flight for a bachelorette weekend getaway. This is the first and last time I (and my friends) fly this airline. My friends and about ~80+ other passengers came two hours early to the Phoenix/Mesa, AZ Airport (as suggested). We waited in the check in line for an hour and 20 minutes before falling in line to pass through security. The checked bag lines were categorized by flight, but that didn't matter. They only called four other flights (one leaving 20 minutes after ours) so it did not matter which line you stood in. Lesson learned: pay the extra money to fly on a "standard" airline and go to Sea-Tac instead of Bellingham if you can! My experience with this company has been rough. First off I flew out of a small airport in Mesa and that was very nice to board so close to home. The staff of the plane made me not feel comfortable. I feel like I'm at a club with how everyone is talking. I can't tell you how many times I've already heard the f bomb since I arrived at this airport. I would never bring kids on this plane. The boarding crew was very unprofessional while her and her friend just laughed and goofed off. We took off late and will be arriving late. There is no body else at the airport. I use Allegiant on a regular basis. I ALWAYS purchase the insurance in case something comes up where I have to cancel or change a flight. This has paid off more than once! I fly frequently and so I'm familiar with the ins and outs of flying. Allegiant is a budget airline so don't expect any frills. I had a couple of past issues and although my hold time with customer service was long, they resolved my issues to my satisfaction. Just remember, you get what you put out. I have seen customers that are extremely rude to the airline employees and get nowhere! For the most part, Allegiant is great for those 2-3 hour flights. Much longer and you'll wish you'd have paid that extra chunk of money and fought the traffic, construction, and lines at Sky Harbor. read more

Let me tell you a story about our last trip on Allegiant. We were booked to head back home from Minot on a Monday at 1pm. At 1:30pm we got a text saying the flight was canceled. I thought, bummer...we'll likely get booked out later that day. NOPE. Flight was rescheduled for Tuesday at 5pm. A 28 HOUR DELAY. We booked a flight on another airline out of Bismarck for early the next morning. We could have gotten home Monday night still had we known about the cancellation 30 minutes sooner. I called the customer service number as instructed in the text to cancel our rescheduled flight. Was on hold for 10 minutes when I went to the ticket counter in Minot. Hung up after 30 minutes on hold when I got to the ticket counter. They could not do cancellations. Told me to call the number I just hung up from. We got to Bismarck that evening, and I waited another 30 minutes on hold before getting an agent. She put me on hold for another 10-15 minutes while canceling my flight, and came back to say I was canceled and would be refunded for the return trip. It may take 1-2 weeks for the refund. That was on August 15th. When I had no refund on Sept 11th, I called and waited on hold another 20 minutes before just using their web form for customer service that stated 24-48 hours for a response. Today I tweeted. And they responded within hours. To tell me it could be another 4-6 weeks. The savings are not worth this level of customer service. We were more than happy with their service up until the past couple of years. Cancelations and delays have increased, and customer service is so bogged down their response times are very unreasonable. read more

Allegiant doesn't even deserve the 1 star I'm giving them in order to write this review. I have never received such poor customer service in my life! We were lured in by their low prices, but, after all the add-ons, it was really no less than what we could have spent with Southwest. Our flight was supposed to depart for Vegas at 5pm (a 45 minute flight, keep in mind), however we were ultimately delayed for FOUR hours. We weren't provided with any update until 45 minutes AFTER our flight was supposed to take off. Instead, all staff l vacated the terminal (yes, they literally all left), so there was no one to even talk to. When an announcement was finally made at 5:45pm, it was an announcement over the loudspeaker (still no staff in sight) to say that our flight was going to depart at 6pm, which we all knew was obviously just a statement to placate us as there was still no plane at the gate and we would literally have had to be boarded already to depart a mere 15 minutes later. I could go on and on about how awful the experience was (no refunds, no credits, no apologies, not even a free drink... they wanted to charge $2 just for water on the plane. Isn't water usually free??), but it's obvious that I'm not the only one that has had such a horrible experience with Allegiant and I don't need to belabor the point. The old saying "you get what you pay for" rings pretty true with this airline. What you get is cheap airline tickets, what you end up paying for could be quite a bit more in fees. The company flies out of smaller airports so its always a bit of a drive. The customer service sucks and for whatever reason, they are unable to employ more than one person at the ticket counters, so check in is a nightmare. As of currently, I have flown two round trip flights, no delays other than the check in being slower than molasses in December. read more

I used this airline for the first time to fly into Idaho falls this last Friday. I have never used a small airline like this, I normally fly out of Phoenix Sky Harbor. However, Idaho falls is a very small town and it was the only way I could get here without driving for 3 hours. First thing that was kind of weird was that I spent nearly 30 minutes waiting in the check-bag line, at the very front of the line, and there was NOBODY THERE TO CHECK THE BAGS. It was 11:00am and everyone was standing in line like "what?" I wasn't in a big rush because I was really early for my flight, but I could see other people in line getting really annoyed. Of course my bag was a couple pounds over the 40 pound limit so I got charged $50. Which, totally my fault. I knew of the charges. But $50 for a couple pounds? UGH. Then, we were told that there was something wrong with the plane so we had to have it switched out. It didn't push our flight back but any plane issues leave me feeling uneasy about flying. And, after reading other reviews about their planes being super old and breaking all the time, I am NOT looking forward to my flight back to Phoenix. After looking at other reviews, I was surprised that I had no delays at all. We left early and arrived at our destination early. Normally on bigger airlines I find myself waiting around for the plane to take off but with this flight we were headed to the runway and I found myself thinking "we're leaving already? What?" I felt pretty good about the actual flight, until the landing! I have anxiety about flying in general, but was feeling really calm as the flight had been very smooth so far. It wasn't bumpy, there weren't a lot of climbs/falls (which I'm sure are normal but always freak me out!). So when I heard that we had approached our destination and we're coming in for a landing, I felt so relieved. Landing is my favorite part, because it's when I finally feel safe again (lol). Not this time! I swear, this pilot did not even care. He had turned the plane towards Idaho falls and, while still being at our highest point, starts letting the plane nose dive towards the ground. I kid you not, we were falling out of the sky. I was getting EXTREMELY light headed and thought I was going to pass out. It felt like I was on a drop ride that never ended! Finally the plane stabilized and I felt like I was going to throw up. I thought that was it! I thought we were all going to die. It happened a few more times and each time I felt SO dizzy. Worst experience flying ever...never again after I get back home. REALLY hoping my flight back to Phoenix won't be as scary. read more

Absolutely insane stupid experience. Missed my flight after being there standing in line to get a boarding pass. The girl working the counter walked away and never returned. So I go to the check in gate and was told another story that I needed to install an app on my phone. I did so and it would still not let me see my boarding pass. I ran back to the ticket counter to be told another story that the girl could not print a boarding pass that she wasn't allowed to and again I was to download the app on my phone. We have been flying Allegiant for over a decade and have watched it grow in size and greed. They use to care about the passengers, the airport is very close to our home so it was a win win. My husband is disabled and cannot sit just anywhere on the plane so I sometimes have a hard time as you have to put in all the information before you can see the available seats. ( They use to save those seats for the handicap but I guess selling them for $28 is better) I was told by customer service I should not be charged the extra fee and I haven't been until today (Lisa) decided I needed to pay. Yes, we actually saw them in Mesa continuously slamming luggage down as they thought it was funny. Only use this airline if have to. You get EXACTLY what you pay for and less.... I booked a ticket on Allegiant, I wanted to add a bag on my itinerary to avoid the high expensive fees per baggage. Went online and clicked on "Manage My Travel" and they would not give me the option to add a bag on my return flight. I called customer service and spoke to an agent. 46 minutes later, I explain that I would like to add a bag for my flight that departs 2 days later. Awful airline. Flight was delayed for 3:36 hours. Mechanical issues. No compensation offered. Waited at arrival airport's customer service counter for a half hour and no agents appeared. I really enjoy that Allegiant offers flights to smaller cities, all my family lives in South Dakota, and just a few short years ago we would have had to fly into Denver and drive the rest of the way. Having Allegiant makes it a ton easier! However, a recent booking with Allegiant has left me with a bad taste. We flew to Rapid City for a family emergency which has now resulted in my 26-year-old brother's death. I called Allegiant customer service in hopes they could help us extend our return flight for his services. We were scheduled to depart on Friday, but funeral arrangements were made for Monday, and I was not going to miss my little brother's funeral. Aside being unsympathetic, the person assisting me could not find a way to help us extend our flight due to the unforeseen circumstance. After charging me an additional $400+ to make the itinerary change, I found online that to book a one-way trip was only $290. I am not sure where these additional expenses occurred, but I find it extremely unsettling that this person would find it appropriate to: 1.) give me a hassle for this request, 2.) charge well over the online price to make the change, 3.) offer no other solutions. I asked to speak to a manager and was told me there was no one to speak to and that she was the highest authority at the time. I am absolutely disgusted by the way this issue was handled and think everyone should think twice about booking with Allegiant, the obviously don't care about people and their situations. read more

Ok, everyone knows about reading the fine print or you will get nickel and dimed, old news. Here are some hidden tips: 1. Don't fly allegiant unless you absolutely have to, primarily looking for a random airport in the middle of nowhere. 2. Bring some spare airplane parts......they typically need them before take off (this may save an hour or two.....you'll still be delayed 1 hr but thats better than 3). 3. Bring several books, meals, bedding etc.... you never know when you'll actually board and leave. 4. Don't read the plate on the door.....you'll realize the plane you flying on is approximately 35 yrs old. read more

My first experience with Allegiant was in 2011 from Phoenix to Springfield, MO it was a good experience. I paid only $283 for my wife, son and I round trip. Flight left on-time. Got us home on-time. We used FED EX to ship our clothes and other miscellaneous items to family in MO and then FED EX back to our home. We still paid up to $70 with FED EX but at least we didn't have to tow tons of luggage especially with a two year old son at the time. FAST FORWARD TO NOW: Now their ticket office at the airport is only open 2PM to 4PM on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in MESA. Last time, I was able to save $60 by not booking on-line and driving 45 minutes to the airport. Now they make it difficult for you because essentially you will be stuck in rush hour traffic if your are coming in from Phoenix and on top of that the lines are going to be much longer because of the shorter hours and people wanting to save $$$. $10 to book online per person and even per segment I believe. ( Trust me its hard to keep track of all their fees ) I have a four year old son but unless I pay up to $13.99 per seat per segment I am not guaranteed that my wife, four year old son and I would have seats together during a flight. So these A-Holes want me to pay up to $125.91 just to be guaranteed that I will be able to sit with my family. However, they may allow you to preboard for free since you have a young child but ASK because my son is four now as oppose to two the last time we flew Allegiant. They charge $35 for checked bags ( Most Airlines Do ) and their size limits are a joke so you can pretty much be assured that you will be charged $35 per checked bag per segment. So lets say my wife and I have two bags each and my son has one that is an additional $350 So lets say they are advertising a rock bottom fare say $75 to Springfield, MO which is about 30 minutes from tourist town Branson, MO. Sure my fare would only be $450 for a family of three but you add in all the fees mentioned above lets assume $60 to book online, $125.91 to be guaranteed that you can sit with your family and $350 for checked bags. GRAND TOTAL: $985.91 to fly from Phoenix to Springfield, MO but remember $450 was the cost of tickets so you are paying over 50% more in fees ! BOTTOMLINE: Allegiant may not be to bad if you are flying solo maybe if its just two of you but if you are flying with a family trust me its not worth it. With my hypothetical fare and fees above ONE would have to be an idiot to pay $535.91 IN FEES ! read more

What I like about this airline: tickets to my hometown are much more affordable than with other airlines, and I can fly directly there from Mesa instead of mess with connections. I'd say ticket price is Allegiant's best feature. What I dislike about this airline: delays seem to be frequent. I've done two roundtrip flights to my hometown, and in both cases, one of the flights was significantly delayed. I'm talking more than two hours, and weather was not the cause of any of them. This means that I know if I fly Allegiant, I need to plan nothing else the day of my flight or the day after. Sorry, but one time of having to wake up for work at 5 AM the day after my delayed Allegiant flight got me in super late is all it takes for me to plan accordingly. That being said, the price and convenience are hard to beat, customer service is decent and I don't have a problem with their luggage policy. Face it, air travel sucks. I've flown Allegiant several times so have low expectations, but this still shocked me! A middle aged woman was shifting bags in the overhead, acting like flight crew. Bizarre! I watched to see if flight crew would challenge or ask her if she needed help. After a while I noticed another, older woman wearing similar attire - a cheap red t-shirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes. Although the t-shirts matched, the jeans and tennis shoes appeared to be random. It slowly sunk in that this was their definition of a "uniform"... basically a cheap red t-shirt with a small Allegiant logo (and random other stuff). These folks clearly don't care how they present themselves or their company to the public. 0 STARS. Bottom line, you get what you pay for. I have flown out of Mesa Gateway with Allegiant approximately 10 times in the last 2 years & EVERY TIME there have been multiple issues. Ranging from severely delayed flights, to employees who clearly don't care about customer service to an hour long boarding process. Worst airline ever (in the US)! If you want to get to your destination on-time do not use Allegiant. If your travel plans are flexible and can be postponed by hours or a day, then roll the dice. I've flown them only 4 times and 2 times they've delayed my departure several hours costing me lost time and business. If you have important things to do (like close on a house, sign papers, go to a job interview, wedding, etc) DO NOT USE THEM! I write this review as I'm on hold for an "estimated 45 minutes" in order to discuss my 5 hour delayed flight today (which caused me to miss my very important meeting). This after constantly getting a busy signal and also not being able to talk to the ticketing agent or gate agent as they are "contracted" persons and not able to help re-book or help customers. Lovely huh? I'm used to travel issues having been a frequent flyer on other airlines; but never have I experienced such consistent issues with an airline. Fire your CEO Allegiant; get your act together!!!! (Update to my review: Still on hold with customer service which was estimated 45 min hold time - now 1 hour 17 minutes and still on hold!!!) Final Update - they answered at 1 hour 50 and the call took 4 minutes. I received a refund and 2x$50 vouchers. First, the EXTRA fees are ridiculous! They charge for everything, probably the air you breath too! I had to pay $23+ dollars to use my credit card and $36 dollars for a carry-on bag. Please do yourself a favor and use a more reputable and honest company... This is my first rant about this, but I will make sure people know this company is a joke. I have flown with allegiant on 3 different trips and they have been great. Yes they charge for everything extra but offer cheap flights. I was surprised by the reviews but people just don't seem to read everything when they book their trips. It clearly states all the rules and procedures but who in today's society I guess actually reads everything. Someone compared to to the greyhound of the sky and I would have to disagree. read more

I only fly this dreadful Allegiant for they are the only direct flight from Phoenix/Mesa to Springfield,Mo. The seats are cramped so you have no leg room and they lost my baggage once.Make sure you take the flight insurance otherwise you will lose all your money if you have to cancel late !!! When you call customer service expect to wait for an hour to two hours I AM NOT KIDDING !!!!!! They have the worst customer service imaginable,they need to hire more customer service agents. Their initial flight are cheap but they charge for seats and baggage so it doubles in price !! They often run a half hour behind schedule. They have OLD planes but outside of turbulence no serious issues. They charge for snacks and cokes so bring your own. read more

I have never had a problem with the flights, however i have just spent 2 hours on hold because I did not get a confirmation # when I booked my flight on line. AND they do not accept business debit cards to pay for the flight but it is not noted anywhere. Two weeks later: I had to change the name on one of the 6 reservations I made and once again I have been on hold for 1 hour and there is no sight in end. HORRIBLE SERVICE.
