The previous owners had the basement completely remodeled to make it a finished extra room with tons of storage shelving. The owners highly recommended Tabor Design Build to me. The finished basement was the only example I needed to convince me to contact Tabor Design Build. John Tabor answered the phone and came to my house to discuss the project. John is a personable, honest, frank, experienced, and supportive contractor. From the beginning, he worked with me. He always advised me of potential risk areas that may be encountered and provided options for me to consider. His options would include cost as well as material options. He would take the time to explain the advantages and disadvantages to me and would allow time for me consider his options. I had over $20,000 of work done, initially. That included such items as creating handicapped bathrooms, changing doors and locks, and redoing all the steps into my house. I would have never thought about the steps, but one of John's carpenters saw me struggling to get up the steps from the garage to the house. He described having "riser" (more steps at adjusted height) steps into the house. He had me lift my bad leg as high as I could and he measured that height. He, John and I discussed the idea and I had them redo the three main steps to my house. Now my 11-year-old Aussie Shepard also appreciates those same riser steps. By far John's greatest creation was my back patio. We screened it in from scratch. His workers built the framing, the doors and an area for my new Hot Tub. This has transformed my back yard and house. Tabor Design Build completed all but the patio before I went into the hospital. The workers and subcontractors were all above average, caring and responsible. They all had worked for Tabor Design Build a considerable period. They never left my house dirty or with tools and material just lying around. They were on time, worked the task to completion and where great people to have around. They loved my coffee. John always managed the work. He would show up at least 2 or 3 times each week. If problems were encountered, John would arrive to discuss and recommended. If John says the workers will be there at 8AM, that is when they arrived. If he said the work would take 2 days, it took 2 days. If unforeseen problems happened, John would call you with plenty of notice with the new time or day. John is respected by all the subcontractors and worker, because he is one of them. John crawls around in your attic to find where the water is coming in and he personally determines what needs to be done. Since those first few months, Tabor Designed Build has been a lifesaver for me. When I found water damage on my living room ceiling John came out, found the problem and replaced my skylights. When a large tree limb fell on my garage roof, John came and assessed the damage with the insurance agent, personally put a tarp over the holes and had a subcontractor here within days. All of this excellence does have value. You may find the Tabor Design Build's proposal to be higher that some competitors. Tabor will only use the best materials and labor for your project. I spent 30 years as a contracting officer in the Federal Government. When an effort was especially critical, the program manager wouldn't worry about going with the "lowest bidder." Government procurement has a process called "best value." If a program manager provided sufficient justification why a higher bidder would be the best choice for the Government, we could award to that higher bidder. If you look at each of your proposals, you need to consider quality, experience and dependability of each offer. These factors cannot be objectively priced, but are critical to your project. I am confident if you included these factors in your decision, you will choose Tabor Design Build.

I obtained six different estimates. I selected Ascension Home Contractors because this was a local company and I was impressed with the great reviews. The estimate was thorough and Jimmy took time to explain everything involved. Jimmy went above and beyond on this bathroom renovation. The tile work was excellent, as was the installation of the tub. I special ordered a cast iron tub which Jimmy and his team picked up and delivered. The bathroom was renovated three months ago. Since that time, I've had different people visit the house and I shared pictures of the bathroom online and everyone was super impressed. Ascension did a terrific job with the bathroom remodel and even went above and beyond to fix a few other things. They also installed a new window to the bathroom and it looks great. I took bids for the contract for my rental property and invited Ascensions to participate. I had got as many as 6 bids. I had a couple bids that was just so low that I had to consider that sometimes going cheap isn't the correct way because I had a deadline and had to have good quality of work to get my house on the market with a good price. So I decided to not take the gamble and go cheap and slow. So I decided to go with Ascension for a couple of reasons. One reason is because I had a good customer service experience with Ascension Home Contractors before. The confusion was on how the tiles was to be laid on the Salon floor with stencils or not. Well after half the ceramic floor was already set and pasted on the 1200 sqft. floor. It didn't look like the way I wanted. So I told Jimmy the owner that I didn't like it. Without an augment as I expected from many. Jimmy gathered his team the next day and picked up about 600 sqft. ceramic tile and reinstalled it the way I wanted. The second reason is that Ascension is like a one stop shop. They do everything. They will project management for you so you do not have to stress and find other contractors. If you need junk removal, house cleaning, tree cutting, or anything related. Ascensions have the resources to get the job done the right way and fast. Yeah I paid more of the top end for Ascension but I had peace of mind and got the job done the right way with out the worry that someone may do a bad job or run off with my money. I had a few Handymen that does work that was not insured or licensed. So be careful about that. Those are the people that may not have a big team but will give you a lower price and you will just have to take a gamble with. Ascensions is License and Insured and it is a reason why you have to pay a premium when you want good work done with good customer service. So this is why I would recommend Ascensions Home Contractors for your home or business. Also Jimmy the owner is very knowledgeable and will inherit your project as if it is were his own and make the right recommendations for your goals.

Sorry, taking that tone is never a successful strategy and not how to build and sustain lasting business or any kind of lasting relationship. I consider myself a reasonable, understanding and forgiving person and don't like to give out negative reviews. I have even changed ratings from 3 stars to 5 stars because the owners kept their pride in check and stood behind their guarantee of 100% customer satisfaction. Instead our project was completed ahead of schedule, just under budget, and the quality of the work was excellent. And that includes an expanded project scope that came up when we discovered large issues with a neighboring property. Fairmont was incredibly flexible and easy to work with. They were always willing to listen to our ideas and make changes as needed. They were also very responsive to my questions and concerns. Fairmont's foreman or a partner subcontractor was on-site on average more than five days a week for the entire many-month project. This allowed them to keep a close eye on the work and make sure that everything was done to the highest standards, and if not the first time, they made sure it was redone. Unlike several neighboring projects, we had no stop work orders, no neighbor complaints (complements actually), and all our inspections were successful. I would highly recommend Fairmont to anyone looking for a home builder or doing a major urban renovation. They are professional, reliable, and they do great work.

However, I am an old house lover (now a three-time renovator) and keeping or reinventing old house detail was important. Carlos manages construction, the tradesmen, the sub-contractors, and the overall quality of the workmanship on the job. He is an experienced builder, taking pride in bringing ideas to life but careful to offer full disclosure on the pros, cons and risks of each option. Jose manages the business side of the project - budgeting and billing, tracking and documenting changes, purchase of materials, recommending vendors for kitchen design, tiles, stone, flooring etc. Most important was his management of communications between Fairmont and me, the homeowner. Jose took time to ask questions and listen carefully to answers. I know and appreciate how rare it is to have good communication. I also have lived the consequences of mediocre communication. Mistakes are costly. Jose follows a protocol of asking, clarifying, and following up with an email restating our discussion and inviting me to comment, add, or correct. The answers don't matter as much as the asking and listening. This worked so well there were no horror stories. To summarize: Strong management of the permitting process, of sub-contractors, deliveries, security of the property and use of appropriate safety measures. I think its important to say also that the project was managed ethically, honestly and respectfully. Everyone on the job was pleasant and upbeat. Weekly walk-thru meetings insuring the work was proceeding according to agreement. Efficient cascade of information, decisions and/or changes, from homeowner and Fairmont to the tradesmen and subcontractors. A solid team of workers - excellent workmanship, site management and daily clean-up. Also, no profanity or loudness, no littering, no complaints from neighbors, and very happily, no accidents. Lastly, Fairmont checks in with you periodically during the year following move-in. Together we created a list of little adjustments and changes that you can't anticipate until you move in. All done! The house is lovely - beautiful carpentry, millwork and all the details that make it livable for me. I feel very fortunate to have done this work with Fairmont and I would recommend them without reservation!

Sean Moran, the owner, and the guys he works with did a great job with everything they helped us out with. There were a couple of things we were looking for in the contractor we would end up hiring. First, they had to be reasonably responsive with our understanding that we weren't their only clients. Sean was always very responsive. If he didn't immediately respond to a text/e-mail, or phone call, he would always get back to me within a few hours. Second, the contractor had to be very knowledgeable in that they could help us complete our vision, provide information that we requested, or feed us vital information that we overlooked but needed to know. Sean and his guys were always spot-on in their advice and definitely helped us understand what could work, what wouldn't, and what we should do taking into account our long-term plans for the house (potential rental down the line). Third, the estimated time to complete the work had to be reasonable. The times that Sean quoted were very reasonable and most importantly, they ultimately met all their timelines. I oversaw all their work and ZERO minutes were wasted during performance. Finally, the prices had to be competitive. We weren't exclusively entertaining the cheapest rates because when it comes to renovations, you really do get what you pay for. AMC's prices were extremely competitive, especially considering the amount of one-on-one attention we received during the entire process and the kind of experience and quality of work they bring to the table. This of course is generally an advantage of going with a smaller company. The renovations and repairs Atlas Moran Construction helped us out with turned out great. I should note that the renovations and repairs were completed through two different work projects, so obviously we were very happy with the first project that we went with them on the second one. We're currently looking at some complete bathroom renovations and you can bet that we're going with Sean and Atlas Moran Construction again! They offered super helpful advice and solutions to problems we didn't anticipate, like adding tasteful cedar planks to cover unfinished walls left by the previous owners. Not only were they quick and professional, but Greg patiently emailed back and forth with me while at work (since I couldn't have my phone on me) to go over my ideas and keep me updating on what was going on. The engineer came and at the end of his assessment told us his visit and write up would be $900. We were a bit caught off guard but was willing to pay because we wanted to move forward with the project. And then, crickets. No word from Greg or the engineer. After a few ignored emails he finally responded to my husband; he thought it was a different client who he had recently met. When my husband reminded Greg that he already knew him and had come to our house, again, nothing. The last attempt to reach out to Greg was very disheartening. We were honest, saying we had reached out to other contractors, but that we like him and wanted a quote. He told us to move forward with them as he is pretty busy. Period. The end. What a waist of time!!! Unless your the more profitable project, move on!
