Allen Chimneys did a fantastic job on re-lining our chimney. We live in a 120 year old house where the interior of the chimney was in dire need of repair. I interviewed over 8 companies and many turned out to be wildly overpriced, unprofessional, unknowledgeable, and in one case even a scam. Theron was the only one who was punctual, friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and although the cost was high I felt was priced fairly to the large amount of work that needed to get done. The crew that did the work was polite and did great quick work, communicated well, and cleaned up the house perfectly just like they left it. Theron even fixed my log lighter for free to help me out, which was not even part of his scoped work. I would highly recommend their service to anyone needing any work done on their chimney. Called Theron to come out and take a look at our chimney liner and the chimney structure itself. We did need a new liner insert in the chimney and repointing of the mortar. He provided the estimate to us and didn't pressure us at all. I wanted to have it done before we got our new roof and was able to fit us into his busy schedule. Eric and his workers showed up and did the necessary work. They were extremely clean and laid down tarps everywhere they were going to walk. Meh. I wasn't clear on the services provided. I called to get this clarified. I was spoken over a couple of times and asked the person to let me make my point. I requested a chimney cleaning. I ended up with an inspection and large estimate for repair. I wasn't connecting the dots on that so I wanted clarity. I had to end the phone call after realizing this was going to be a one way conversation. I'm sure they do great service for most. I just didn't walk away feeling like I had an understanding of what I was getting into. I thought most folks do free estimates and inspections. Maybe not here or maybe it's a minimum charge because the chimney was already clean? Not what I would have expected afterwards. A little over a year ago, Theron Allen installed our gas logs with efficiency and extremely good humor. When he noted that he had packed the wrong log set, he immediately jumped into his truck, drove all the way home, and returned with the correct logs even though it meant working into the evening hours. Just yesterday, he returned to solve a problem--a simple one. A bit of dust was blocking the pilot light. He fixed the problem, and he showed me what to do if it happened again. He did so with good cheer not making me feel for a second that I had inconvenienced him. I set up an appointment to have service on my wood stove. At that time, I was very clear that I needed to leave work to be at this appointment. They assured me they would be there and send me a confirmation note. I did not receive a confirmation and when I called and emailed to confirm, it was one hour before the appointment when they told me I was not on their schedule. No, I will not reschedule. Sorry to all of the other 5 stars out there. Buyer beware. Called them to have my chimney swept. They told me that I needed to have my firebox re-porridged. He explained that he needed to remove bricks from the back of the chimney to perform the service and it was going to cost about $1,700. Feeling concerned I called another chimney vendor for an inspection. I was told by them that removing bricks to access the firebox would compromise the integrity of the entire chimney. They also said that there was absolutely no need re-porridged the chimney and overall it was in great shape. Since the incident I have used a couple different vendors to sweep my chimney and none of those vendors said anything about the firebox either. Always get a 2nd opinion with fireplace repairs. There are many chimney sweeps that will come for a free inspection. read more

I first used this company for a chimney cleaning early in the year. After that I used them for a bigger job to repoint my chimney, add a cap and more. Since the job was done I have been contacting the company and owner numerous times regarding their workers getting cement spots all over my new steps. We just put in new limestone last year and they are damaged because of this companies sloppy clean up. Every time the steps get wet they show hundreds of cement spots that weren't cleaned up from the work they did on the roof. Their clean up was done sloppily and for weeks after the job was done I even had cement coming out of my gutters after rainfall! I have sent numerous pictures to the owner who apologized on several occasions it would be fixed but never did. I have numerous texts, email and showing the promises and to this day it hasn't been done. I have been more than patient with the owner who has told 3 times via text and on the phone he would personally come and fix the steps. Since then he never showed after numerous promises and ignores my calls and texts now. On top of spending over one thousand dollars with this company this year, waiting 2 months for them to fix an error that shouldn't have happened in the first place is adding insult to injury. Now I have to take time out of my day to file a complaint with the BBB and continue to spend my own personal time on an issue that should have been resolved months ago. I already had to replace the mulch in the front because they swept the debris into it when the job was performed. I even tried to clean off the steps on my own (which I shouldn't have to) and it didnt work. Now I'm seeking compensation to hire a trustworthy professional who can power wash and clean the steps. If that doesn't work then I will move forward with replacing the steps at this companies cost. read more

Allen Chimneys did wrong by me. I hired them way back in 2012 to replace my chimney flue. they came, reviewed the site and said the job was bigger than I thought. the chimney needed to be opened up, with all new ductwork needed, besides a new flue. Allen Chimneys, LLC completed the job in 2012 and then my problems began. when the heating season of 2102-13 started, I experienced a problem with back-drafting, meaning specifically that my furnace was covered with scorch marks from the fire inside the boiler. NOT a good situation!! I call Allen and they said the problem certainly had nothing to do with them. I then contacted THREE (3) HVAC companies to look at the situation, with the result being that EACH ONE said my flue was under-sized. I called Allen again; they repeated, the problem absolutely had nothing to do with them. finally I called the town fire inspector. he visited me property and pronounced the flue undersized, with that action occurring in 2014. Between August 2014 and now, April 2015, Allen has not responded, with certified letters and emails to document their non response. Finally, to bring the situation to a close, the town inspector failed me for an under sized flue with Allen Chimneys present for the inspection.
