Excited for the product since I saw many size options online (including widths) but if you're looking to spend hundreds of dollars this isn't the place to do it. Didn't start well. Walked by after work, storefront was empty but the door was open. Turns out 2 staffers were sitting in the stock room. I know it's the week of Thanksgiving but they weren't closing for another 90 minutes. Tried on a few sizes but my feedback about the shoes being tight around the balls of my feet were mostly ignored. I was basically told to try another location. I'll do them one better and try another brand. read more

Bought some shoes a couple week ago, the shoes are fine (4 stars), and the instore service at the time was fine too. Service since has been poor, however (minus 2 stars). After my receipt did not come through by email, despite the promotional emails coming through just fine despite me selecting the "no promotional emails" option when I bought the shoes, I called to ask if it could be sent through. The guy said sometimes it doesn't work and I'd have to come into the store to get it. Sensing he was about to hang up on me, I asked if he could possibly try to resend it by email, as the store is out of my way. He said, "Ok, done" and hung up, before I could even say thanks. It still didn't come through (and yes, I checked my spam folder) so I eventually went into the store to ask for the receipt. The same guy who I spoke with on the phone printed it out and when I asked him why it wouldn't come through in the email when I get the promotional emails, he said, "Now you have it" and walked off into the back of the store. I know it was the same guy who I'd spoken with earlier on the hone, not because I knew his name - he never offered that - but because of his rude, dismissive tone. I called after him to remind him to work on his customer service skills. People have bad days, I get it. But this is a clear pattern with this guy. If he doesn't like dealing with customers, or like trying to be helpful, he should find another job, before he ruins business for Allen-Edmonds. read more

Shoes did not fit properly and soles extremely uncomfortable. Store refused to take a return despite online saying they accept returns

I had one of the best shoe buying experiences at this Allen Edmonds store. Prior to my visit, I ordered about 20 pairs of shoes online, only to return 95% of them. I was missing out on a proper fitting and lacked the expertise to get in the correct pair of shoes. Todd helped me find the best fitting shoes. He is very knowledgeable in shoe fit, feel, lasts, and designs. His experience with fitting others helped tremendously as he knew which sizes and widths would fit my feet best. His patience was amazing. We tried on many pairs and I was able to invest in high-quality shoes that fit how they should. The others team members in the store were taking care of all the clients that walked in store. It seemed like everyone that walked in was leaving with a new pair of shoes. I will be back to buy more shoes in a few months and will take friends to invest in a well made shoe while receiving top notch client care. read more

Awful experience - don't get your shoes here or "recrafted" here. Paid $175 for my shoes to be resoled and refinished; they came back with a non-Goodyear welted soles, unfixed blemishes, and the wrong color shoe laces. Allen Edmond's used to be great but now that this private equity shop took over the quality is awful. On top of it, the customer service rep at the store was insufferable and incredibly unhelpful. Just went and bought a pair of Alden's next door (who haven't sold out to PE); I'll use a real cobbler next time. read more

Unfortunately had a negative experience on my first occasion purchasing AE shoes. I visited this location and tried on numerous pairs, finally deciding on one. After leaving the store, I realized that the pair chosen was 2 sizes smaller than I normally wear. I had them shipped to my house from the warehouse as not to carry them around. The shoes were purchased for my wedding day, so I bought them well in advance and didn't try them on until the day of. They were quite tight, but managed to put them on and figured they just might need to be worn in. By the end of the night, my left big toe had gone completely numb. Upon returning to a local retail location seeking to exchange the shoes for a larger size, I was informed of the return policy prohibiting returns after 90 days or 1 wear. I can understand not wanting to be taken advantage of, but to prohibit even an exchange to a well fitting size after one use strikes me as unbecoming of a "luxury" brand, given the dollar amount paid ($425.) I'm not sure where the issue occurred, if the salesman entered the wrong order, or the floor model was not representative of the pair received, but the fact that, even letting bygones be bygones relative to wedding night foot pain, that they wouldn't even exchange to a proper fitting size, leads me to recommend that you shop elsewhere for footwear. read more

For the first time, I had a problem with a pair of shoes, and had to return them after a few weeks. Todd, the store manager, was flexible, helpful and patient during the whole process. For decades, I've bought crappy shoes after crappy shoes after crappy shoes. I don't own fancy pants, and I didn't own fancy shoes, until I headed to Allen Edmonds. I entered with a plan to invest in a great pair of shoes, because I estimated I've dropped more than $200/year on shoes that fall apart in the rain. The shoes I buy are the buy 1 get 1 half off. They're the ones that end up with a funky aroma after a week. I had to put an end to it. I always thought I was a 10.5 Wide, and that was the first shock. I'm actually a 9.5 EEE, but the crappy shoes I was buying don't have sizes like EEE. Overall, the experience at Allen Edmonds was eye opening, and they answered every dumb question I had. I took about 90 minutes trying on shoes and asking my questions. I learned shoes aren't made the same, won't fit the same, and you really need to try a style on before determining if it's a good fit. I learned that 'shoe trees' help prevent shoe stank, and shoe horns are not musical instruments; they're used to prevent busting the back of your shoe. Resoling shoes isn't complicated, and it can be done without having to break the shoe in again for comfort. Like I said, I learned a lot. I spent a lot of money, but I'm wearing the most comfortable shoes I own. I went with the style that many presidents have worn; the Park Avenue. I also learned Allen Edmonds has sales in October, so I'm going to return and pick up another pair, hopefully much cheaper. Bottom line, I'm a big fan of this place. They made me feel awesome about abandoning my crappy shoe lifestyle. read more

Unfortunately I walk by here every day. If I had the means I would go in here once a week to pick up a pair of shoes. It would be so glorious though. You can always find a better deal on the internet, but if you need them today. Are there shoes that are more expensive and better? Yes. The difference between $300 shoes and $600 is not as great a difference as between shoes that are $100 and $300. Is there a better value for the money? Not when it comes to shoes. The shoes are expensive, but with the proper care they will last 5, 10, 20 years. Far longer than any other shoes that I have owned. The service is a bit scattered here, but the do size feet well, and get you the right size shoe, and educate about the proper care to extend the life of your new investment. read more

Excellent service! I was fitted for a pair of Strand's but wanted them with the Dainite Rubber Sole. They, unfortunately, did not have them in stock, but instead, they had them delivered within 2 business days. I also picked up a matching belt. You can buy with confidence. Allen Edmonds has great shoes and customer service. After I had the shoes for 5 years I had them recrafted. While it costs 125 bucks they came back looking like new. They are my favorite shoes and they were in horrible condition. I have three pair and that's all I need. Well, maybe one more. In the store staff is always very helpful and pleasant. This is really a review of the shoes more than the store. Leather body is very durable and does not scratch easily. However, there are a couple scratches, as this is Manhattan and we step on each others feet on the subway. Leather sole is very hard and does not wear down quickly, which is a plus, because once you get that replaced the shoe is living on borrowed time. The leather soles are actually the most durable of all the shoes I've owned and have worn away evenly and very slowly. One thing that AE needs to look into is that rubber heel part of the shoe wears down faster than any other shoe I have ever owned. Much faster than Johnston and Murphy shoes' heels, which are about $100 cheaper. AE needs to find a better supplier of heels. read more

Stopped by the store yesterday night to buy a pair of Fifth Avenues. This was during their "Rediscover America" sale which had everything 15-30% off the retail price. It runs from September 24th to October 9th. They usually close at 8PM, but during the sale they close at 9PM at this location. I walked in and all the associates were helping other people, so it took a few minutes for one to ask me if I needed any help. As I waited, I checked out the store and the other shoes they had. This was my first pair of Allen Edmonds, to replace the outlet Bostonians, Dockers, and Bass shoes that I've worn out wearing to work. William was the associate that helped me and he asked if it was the first time I was trying out their shoes. I said yes and he measured my foot. It turned out my size was different than I thought it was. He went to get the shoes and then helped put and tie the shoes on my feet using the foot stool and shoe horns. The first pair I felt was too tight around the sides but was actually a comfortable length (even though it was shorter than my "usual" size), so he went and got me another pair with a wider width and it fit great. If you're thinking of ordering a pair online, don't know your size, or don't have a pair yet, I highly recommend going into a physical store to get your foot measured and to try on different pairs. Each shoe model fits different depending on the last it's made on, even on the same size and width. You can also place an order in the store if you want a fresh pair and they'll ship it for free to your home or work. Positive store experience even though I wasn't dressed up like a suit from the surrounding area. I look younger than I am and wore casual clothes with sneakers and still received good service. read more

I went on a pretty busy day, turns out there was some kind of sale going on. Not sure the occasion, but I'll take it! I was helped by Irina who was lovely and not pushy. They only had a few of the shoes I liked in my size but she was very helpful showing me all the things I could try on now and the ones I would have to order. I ended up buying a really great pair of Dalton wingtip (full brogue) boots. They look amazing! I'll have to wait a few weeks for them to arrive, but it looks worth the wait. The shoes are mostly stunning, but there are some old man comfort shoes mixed in, what can you do. I would say anyone who's looking for a great American made quality shoe that will last, by the looks of it, a lifetime, go here. read more

Allen-Edmonds shoes are great. I've had many pair but never used this location. Excellent selection of only A-E shoes. We were buying wedding shoes here and they did not have my size. My partner selected a style but there was a minor defect in the tongue of the shoe. Without prompting they offered to send two pair from the factory at their expense. The shoes arrived at my home in perfect condition in two days by Fed Ex. Overall great service and perfect shoes. read more

Always wanted to try AE so I took the day off from work and although the place was packed, Bill took great care of me. he first measured my feet and was very helpful in answering my questions. Settled on buying two pairs of Carlyles' - there was an annual sale going on and I was saving about $100 a pair. Would recommend having someone measure your feet since their lasts varies between shoe styles. Bill placed an order and the shoes came in last week, fresh from the factory in WI. I have been alternating between the pairs and using the shoe trees when not in use as suggested by Bill - I am quite happy with my new shoes and I'm sure they will last for a few years. read more

Worst experience in this store, among all my shopping experience over 5 years in NYC. I walked in with a new pair of AE McAllister that I ordered from their website and received one day before, hoping to have the employees in the store inspect the unusual dark/inkish area on the beginning of shoe tongues. The manager(big guy, dark skin) took a glance after I took the shoes out from box, without even touching them, said it`s normal because the shoes are handmade. The dirty area on the shoe is well hidden between the lace and the reverse side of the main leather, I doubt he even saw the area I meant. Both he and the female assistant then went on "educating" me of the craftsmanship of AE. I told them I went to their store ONLY because I was advised to do so by their online agent who found this problem a defect and abnormal.. They just talked, barely listened. well, I guess I will just keep the shoes the way they are... What happened next was even more surrealistic. After this "Inspection" was over, I sat down with the lady employee (light skin and accent) to try on a pair of Park Ave from their display. 10.5D turned out very tight on the front, 11D ran two thumbs too long. I asked the lady what size is the good fit for me, she just could not tell directly by reading the scale while my foot was on it. She then called her colleague(short, broad shoulder guy with beard and glasses) over to read the measurements, he said I was a 11.5D and he would not recommend any shoes smaller than 11D. I told him that I just tried 11D and it was way too long for me. He then talked for a whole minute about the different size and fit of AE blah blah and then he said "lT`S YOUR PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECT, WE DON`T DEAL WITH PSYCHIES HERE " I was shocked hearing this but tried not to boil over, I told the lady that I will not buy a pair today but thank you. She seemed unpleasant and disappointed. I have never been to a store where you actually want to pay $350 for pair of shoes you like and fit and the only thing you get is the store managers` superior knowledge of their products and sizing, and your lack of understanding of your own foot comfort. The shop higher up on Madison has much more helpful employees. Avoid their service by all means. read more

My boyfriend came in to browse and ended up trying on a few pairs of shoes. The shop is super tiny compared to other AE stores that I've been to but the service here blows the others out of the water. I believe our salesperson's name was Nelson and he was so genuine and knowledgeable.
