Lori, the Back Office Manager was amazing. I sent over a prescription renewal request to Walmart on Sunday morning. Tuesday midday and Walmart said they had sent the request to my doctor's office and hadn't received a response. I called Dr. Allen's office and got through to Lori. She told me Walmart, contrary to what they told me, hadn't sent any requests. She immediately forwarded the script to them. She said this wasn't the first time they had similar instances happen with other patients and Walmart. I should know. She said that Walmart often gets backlogged with requests and it's easier for them to say to customers the doctor's office did not acknowledge their request than to explain they're backlogged. They never answer the phone and it then hangs up on you. I called over 15 times. I sent messages on the web portal and nobody responded this was over a month ago. I was sick with Covid and needed a call back or a message but nothing. I asked through the wed portal for a prescription refill and again no response it's been 2 weeks now. This place is the worst for health care. When I asked for some cough medicine for Covid on a Wednesday and waited till Friday, I called and was told no providers are in the office today on a Friday. One Dr and the rest are NP. Stay away unless you like calling over and over. read more

Communication was great, the representative from Allen family (I can't remember her name but she was lovely) listened to my symptoms, walked me through the prescription usage, and they the why. I will find a different dr.. This office is only concerned about appointments and making money not concerned about patient care at all. I had a zoom call with a medical assistant for a UTI paid for the call paid for everything she gave me an antibiotic for a UTI and it did not work. I called the office and they told me to come in and give a culture so they would know which antibiotic to use. I've had this UTI for three weeks now. So when I go in to give the culture they tell me I have to have another appointment which means I have to wait even longer I am so angry with this office. Patient health patient care doesn't matter they just want money not going here again do not use this office this isn't the first time. read more

Don't waste your time! They lost our medical forms we needed for our health insurance. What kind of doctors office doesn't keep patient documents? Needless to say, because I am still struggling since September to get these ONE PAGE forms sent to my insurance, we're going to miss out on saving $1400 on our premiums. I don't know who is running this office or why it's so disorganized but get it together! I can't even call to talk to someone about this because their phones hang up on me rather than putting me on hold. This day in age you should have better technology! I've been going to Allen Family Medicine for about a year now (love their online patient portal via their website. Filled out the medical forms online which was very convenient) and have had a very good overall experience with the entire staff from the front desk folks (They're great!) , to the assistants, NP's (Ruth) and Dr. Allen. I feel that I'm not just seen as a patient, but as a person and I've been treated in a friendly and competent way by the entire staff which is very much appreciated. I also like that my healthcare professionals listen and pay attention to what I have to say which is important as we are really partners together in the management of my healthcare. They also have an in-house lab if you need to have any lab work done which is a nice convenience. read more

I've been a patient here for years and am sad to leave because I do love Roanne! She is very sweet, attentive and very personable. But getting a hold of her is almost impossible because it's rare to have someone answer the phone, it just rings several times and then hangs up on you with no option to leave a message. I've made two appointments to get a refill on my prescription (left the 1st one after waiting an hour and a half, & didn't want to be late to work) had the 2nd appointment on Monday, the pharmacy was having issues with the Rx so I needed to have my provider either change the Rx or send it to another pharmacy. Today is Friday and I still have not been able to get in contact with her so I drove down to speak with someone. (2nd time I've driven to the clinic to speak with someone due to phone calls not being answered) Even then, there was one person working at the desk talking to a patient and after waiting fifteen minutes I ended up having to leave a note because once again had to leave for work. I don't expect them to call me back today honestly, but I will try again on Monday and will be looking for another provider. I'm so tired of my time not being respected. read more

Dr. Allen is a wonderful, caring, upbeat, terrific, educated, and knowledgeable doctor, that not only is a caregiver, and healer, but is a teacher in that he takes the time with you as a patient to explain, educate, and teach you about why you're feeling the way to feel, and how the things he prescribes or treatments he advises you to do will help your health and life. Today of all days, March 19th - admits all the chaos we as Americans are undergoing hourly to adjust to social distancing, and living during this pandemic that is Coronavirus, I had scheduled an upper GI test. I followed through with the test this morning at 9am, the Dr. that did the test let me know he would be sending his results to Dr. Allen this afternoon. At 11am this same day, March 19th, I got a call from Dr. Allen's office letting me know that Dr. Allen had the results of my test, and due to the Coronavirus, he would like to schedule with me a telemedicine call to chat about these results. His secretary told me to go to there website which I did, and I found the link to schedule the tele-appointment. I pulled up the link on my iPhone, and in an instant, it should on my phone a video chat, and read on-screen "Your appointment will begin shortly". In less time I wait signing in at a waiting room, BING, Dr. Allen popped up on my screen. He explained to me he got my results, and the office was trying to do these tele-appointments were they could now. All from the comfort of my home Dr. Allen read and explained my test results, he prescribed me medication which was sent over to my pharmacy, and we set a future tele-appointment to follow up on how I was feeling. In less than 2 hours I had all my answers, without having to run all over the Valley (risking exposure). It was not only convenient and safe, but Dr. Allen still provided me with the same great personal care that makes me feel like I am a member of his family. First off, I'll start by saying Dr Allen is amazing. From my very first appointment, he was attentive and took my concerns seriously. HOWEVER, the office staff has been terrible from day 1! It's impossible to reach anyone by phone, 90% of them are rude and condescending, they will reschedule you with a different provider and not even notify you, getting prescription refills are impossible, and the unprofessionalism is just absurd. I've already filed a complaint with the BBB on behalf of the staff, not the provider, but how can you keep someone employed there who has no problem calling patients derogatory names ??? The entire office staff just needs to be replaced. You are the face of the company and you're making it look terrible. As much as I appreciate Dr Allen, it looks like I will be searching for a new provider. Dealing with such unpleasant office staff EVERY SINGLE TIME isn't acceptable. read more

I see a lot of people had issues with their hormones and thyroid after going here and HERES WHY! Dr Allen used a lab called theranos to test patient's blood, a company that is now going to trial for manipulating blood results and lying to doctors about what their tests do. When I went to Dr Allen he told me I had all of these issues with my hormones and went as far as to say I had PCOS, which was far from the truth. He had me on all of these medications and insisted I needed it. He's very manipulative and his staff are the exact same way. They didn't tell you the real reason why they were getting rid of hormone therapy at the normal offices but after hearing about this lawsuit, it's very clear why. Dr Allen Family medicine were not transparent with their patients about the real reasons behind the change in their office nor apologize for their negligence on using Theranos labs. I called last week for a same day appt on Thursday, 08-19-21 because I believed that I had Covid and my breathing was only getting worse. I was hoping to get on antibiotics and stay out of the ER. They booked a phone appt for 3:15, and I never got a call. I called the after hours number and the on call PA Roxanne called back. I explained the situation and she said couldnt help me, but would reach out to the office manager at 0800 the next morning and have someone call me back. I never got a call. I called and left messages- never got a call. I ended up going to urgent care Friday because I was unable to slow my breathing or HR. They sent me straight to the ER because my vitals were not stable. I was put on breathing treatments, fluids, steroids and antibiotics. They ended up sending me home after about 12 hrs and told me to follow up with my PCP if I'm not improving. Needless to say- I'm not improving and have zero faith of getting help from my PCP. We try to do the right thing and keep the ERs free for the super sickly, but when you can't get a call back from your physician- it puts your health in jeopardy. I will be switching. read more

If I could give less than a 1 star I would! My family has been patients at Allen Family for many years, in the last 2 years it has progressively gotten crappier and crappier care/service. They cant seem to keep any staff so everytime you go your seeing someone and having to go over again and again your history. Its like 1 hand is not communicating with the other! They are horrible at scheduling and and make you wait sometimes up to an hr after your appointment time to be seen, yet you walk in 2 mins late to an appointment and they cancel your appointment. I dont know how they are in business other than lying to patients and selling them on non insurance covered "hormones" in Dr. Allen's other office. Worst ever! read more

I have mixed feelings about this office. Dr. Allen himself was really great, but the rest of the staff and service I have not been happy with. The first visit I went to was an urgent care visit. I waited for a long time to be seen and the reason was because the staff had no new patient forms available. They had to find a new patient form of another patient and white-out their information in order for me to fill out the form. That was strike one for me. The second strike out came when I got a voice message super early in the morning (before 7am) from a doctor saying that my blood results came back as me having severe hypoglycemia and that I was at a dangerous level. No # was left, so I called the office and they said that no one had called me and left a message. I told them that that was crazy because someone had and had said that they were from the practice. I had to do a lot of calling to my insurance and researching online to discover who had called me. It turns out that the office tag-teams with another office for emergency calls like that and I had received a call from the other office. The staff that I spoke to at Dr. Allen's office had no idea that they worked with another office on emergency calls. (?!?!) I was surprised that they didn't know this. The lack of communication is obvious. The third strike came when the physician's assistant I saw didn't know the answer to something and so she pulled up WebMD in front of me to research! I was incredulous, because that is something that I could have done myself and had just paid a co-pay for her to research the answer on Web MD. I was not okay with that. It was unprofessional and communicated a lack of medical expertise. The fourth and biggest strike came when I asked if I could have a doctor call me back about what I needed to do with the hypoglycemia and no one called back. I called back several times 2 days in a row, asking to talk with a doctor and no one ever called back. My blood sugar got so low to the point that I was super dizzy and starting to see white flashing lights. I was persistent and finally spoke with a physician's assistant who told me, "Your levels are dangerously low and you need to go to the ER immediately." This set off a spark for me and I demanded to talk with the doctor because I had been calling for 2 days and no one had called me back, even though they knew my levels were already at a dangerous level and had dropped even further since then. I demanded to talk with Dr. Allen and he deeply apologized, saying that he was going to work with his team about improving communication with them. I expressed my grievances with the staff and how I had been treated and was told that it would be worked on. I was willing to forgive and give them another chance, but then it happened again where I was not communicated to and had to call them several times for an answer, so I am looking for another doctor's office. It's sad, because Dr. Allen himself is a wonderful doctor, but his team needs to have better communication, more professionalism and a stronger work ethic, especially with cases that are considered emergencies or urgent cases like mine was. There needs to be more organization among the majority of staff and responsibilities and patient customer service needs to be taken more seriously or I can see them losing a good portion of their patients to another doctor's office who takes these important things into consideration and incorporates them into their practices. A building can look strong on the outside, but is only as stable as its foundation and that is where I feel like this office is lacking. If it were to take steps to strengthen it's staff, then it would be so, so, so much better. But as it is, it's standing on a foundation with holes in it and because of that and unfulfilled promises, I'm seeking another office and have filed a grievance with my insurance. read more

Doing this review for my husband because he doesn't want to sign up for this app lol. He was sick and had a lingering cough for a month. He called in and scheduled a phone visit. The nurse was able to diagnose him and sent the prescriptions to our pharmacy. He was better almost 24 later. So thankful he called and thankful for Dr. Allen's office to get back to him so quickly. read more

This place is a joke. From incorrectly written prescriptions, to bad advice on vaccine clinics, this staff has now been upgraded to horrendous. All I wanted was vaccines for my Asian trip and I got an entire day of having to run around town looking for clinics, circling back to get additional prescriptions - which should have been provided - being given duplicates incorrectly... We are fairly new patients to Allen Family medicine. I am very disappointed with the patient care. Almost every time I call the office, I get placed on hold for 15+ minutes and end up hanging up and calling back. My husband needed a preauthorization for a medication and it took the office almost 2 months to get the prescription taken care of... but only after I called and complained. We called multiple times within that 2 months and were told we would get a call back every time and we never did. I made an appointment on a Friday afternoon and the office called the day before my appointment and asked if I was still coming, I said yes. Then, the day of my appointment I got another call while on my way to my appointment to make sure I was still coming. During that appointment, the nurse practitioner's son was banging on the door and I was hurried out. Everyone just wanted to leave early and I was the last patient. Extremely unprofessional and inexcusable. This doctor's office is unorganized and doesn't make their patients feel very valued and taken care of. I will be finding a new doctors office unfortunately. read more

I'm having a good experience here. I came here after talking to a few different people and getting the answer each time to "see Dr Allen!" I also like that as part of the bloodwork, he is able to evaluate hormones. I was sure that I would need to take hormones, but he recommended a supplement instead to help balance estrogen. read more

This medical office is a joke, a bad one. The turnover in employees is ridiculous. No one ever returns phone calls. They screw up on paperwork for referrals, lab tests, etc. If you had an appt at 3:00, you have to check in 30 minutes earlier, then wait an HOUR to finally get into one of patient rooms, then have to wait another HALF HOUR before the doc or PA comes in! If you require communication from your doctor's office this is not the place for you. I can never seem to get a hold of the office no matter what time of the day I call, the mailbox is always full, and the assistant to my NP never answers or gets back to me. I would have to relentlessly bug them through messages and my pharmacy to get prescriptions filled, and at one point had to drive myself over to the office to confront them directly. To which they said it was my fault because I needed another appointment and did not apologize for never responding to my dozens of calls and messages. If I needed another appointment why did they never inform me? I never received word of my lab results from them and had to check them myself through the lab. Good thing I did because otherwise I wouldn't have my known I had a huge vitamin deficiency. This is the worst service I have ever experienced at a doctor's office. read more

My wife wanted me to take her to urgent care, but I'm glad I found this place instead. I called at 2:50pm & got an appointment at 3:30pm. Filled out the paperwork & 5 minutes later we were in a room where they checked all her vitals. After she left it wasn't 5 minutes till Sarah the PA came in and answered all of our questions. They immediately took a blood test & we were out so fast. I am impressed with the quick service but the friendliness & genuine concern was all there too. We will definitely be going back along with the whole family. read more

I started seeing Dr Allen last summer and was impressed at first with the ideas and plan of care he presented. As time went on I became less impressed, he didn't seem to familarize himself with my files before we met and I had to constantly correct and question his statements in our visits. He would make suggestions and then contradict himself a few minutes later, he would say something like "let me go check on that" and then never come back, just send his nurse in to usher me out. In January his office cited insurance changes and switched me to visiting the "Spa" next door where I could continue to get the natural medications I had been taking. I was told I would need to pay $450 up front for a consultation with the Dr I had already been seeing for 8 months. I was shocked and questioned why I would be charged this outrageous fee for an established patient visit and she could not explain the fee, she kept repeating "he's a specialist". I went next door to the medical office and spoke to the office managers and they were shocked at what I described as well. They were sure I had misunderstood and asked me to give them a day to look into it and clear things up. I agreed, that was two weeks ago and I have never heard back. It is clear to me at this point in time that all Dr. Allen is concerned with is the almighty dollar and making as much money from each patient as he can. I have several friends who were seeing him who have had similar experiences. Save yourself the trip and find a Dr. who cares about you as a person and wants to help you, not just suck as much money as possible from your bank account. read more

Been a patient well over a year and finally had enough of these guys. Generally speaking just totally unprofessional in about every way. I've experienced: * billing issues (never their fault) * inconsistent service (never see the same doc) * incompetence (rookie docs that fuck up both the format and quantities on prescriptions that inevitably lead to hang ups and delays at the pharmacy, many times even requiring trips back to the doctors office for exchange of correctly written ones) * there is a general "laissez-faire" attitude held by seemingly everyone in the office that ultimately leads to the unacceptable realization that you (the patient) and your problems (read NEEDS) DO NOT come first and ARE NOT REMOTELY the most important item on their schedule. Recently, a Walgreens pharmacist (just blocks from their office) mentioned (unprompted by me) that it was their common experience of having more issues with this doctors office than almost any other. Save your time and dignity and seek better healthcare elsewhere. I most certainly am. read more

I waited over an hour to get seen. That was a first for me in any medical environment. Even when I went to the ER I got seen much quicker than that. Once I got seen, the nurse practitioner Ruth barely acknowledged me, stared at her computer the whole time and told me to see a specialist. I have a minor issue that she doesn't even ask about or even look at. She said it's not in her expertise. She said the office would call me back later to schedule my appointment with this surgeon/specialist. They never called. I've never received worse medical care in my entire life. If you want a thorough medical office with staff that has a bedside manner or human heart for that matter, go anywhere else but here. read more

My wife and I have been patients of this facility for two years. We are both on Medicare Blue cross/shield advantage. A referral is required for any specialist. My wife has had pain in her right shoulder for a month or so and decided to get it checked out by Dr Allen. Unfortunately he was not immediately available and had to settle with the only Nurse Practitioner available. Our insurance requires an X-ray before we can get an MRI. We went and got an x-ray, made another appointment and finally got a referral for an MRI. The pain was getting worse in my wife's shoulder. Since we didn't hear back from Allen family medicine, I went ahead and picked up the report and disc myself. It did show a tear in her shoulder. I immediately called Allen family medicine to make another appointment in order to get a referral to an orthopedic surgeon. Again, the only person immediately available was the NP. We had to wait another week. After the visit the NP said she would personally request an immediate referral since they normally take 7-10 days to get approval. We left the office hoping to hear back the next day or two. We didn't!!!! Waited 10 days and still no phone call from Allen Family Medicine. I was furious, since my wife was still in a lot of pain. I called to see what the delay was and got the referral voice mail. Left a message, but the next day still did not receive a call back. I called again and told the operator I wanted to speak with the referral person now. Lorre took my call and said she did not have a referral request. I was absolutely furious. She said that Karen would call me immediately, which she did and could not give me an explanation as to why she didn't have a request. She finally gave me the name of an orthopedic surgeon. She asked if I would like to speak with the office manage, Tim. Left him a message to call me back, he never did, therefore writing the poor review. I even e-mailed the office, asking for Dr. Allen's e-mail, never received a reply. We are done with this office!!! read more

If I could give Zero stars I would. Terribly trained staff, loses appointments, wait time over an hour many times. I and my husband were established patients. My husband desperately needed a very important rX refilled, no one would EVER call back. He went two weeks without a medication that was critical. Another time an appointment was made for him (this was when he no longer had insurance). He showed up for the appointment, which they then said they had no record of (it was made the day before). They would not see him without paying $85 up front. We had been on a payment plan with them, and he was in critical need of renewing/adjusting a medication, but they refused to see him. HIDEOUS treatment of a really sick man. As to the hormone replacement, in comparing notes with other patients, EVERYONE gets the same diagnosis and prescriptions, many of which are prepared and sold there at the office. They just want to sell their medications and vitamins. If you are not paying for botox, cosmetic laser resurfacing or some other fancy cosmetic treatment, they are not interested in your health. Dr. Allen may be a good doctor, but good luck trying to see him. His staff of PAs and assistants is in constant transition, as you never see the same one twice. read more

Well, at first I thought he was a great doctor but have had several problems with the way the business is run. First of all, when he suggested I try different supplements the nurse told me how much it was for a 3 month supply. It seemed okay, but then as I was taking it realized it wouldn't even last me a month! What? When questioned about that, they said, well, that is for the dose of one a day. Well, that is not what he prescribed so it is a little misleading! I went ahead and bought enough to get me through. I then lost my health insurance so have to be a cash patient with no insurance. The front office charged me $84 for an office visit and had me sign a paper saying I would pay whatever, basically. So, next I get a bill saying the office visit was actually $124! What????? I just saw a specialist, my neurologist, and his office visit for a cash patient was only $83. I'm paying $124 and I saw a PA, not even the doctor. So, I called the number on the bill for billing questions. No answer, so I left a message. That was Monday. I waited all that day and the next for a call back. No call. Wednesday I called again and left a message. Waited the rest of that day and the next. Today - Friday, I called through the switchboard and got right to Trina who I had left the messages for. I asked why she hadn't returned my calls. She stated she had tried to call me back and had documented that. I asked what number she had called and it was correct, but it is my cell phone and I have NOT had any calls from her. No missed calls! No messages! Don't lie to me. When asked about the discrepancy in the office visit charge, she said that is what the provider said the visit would be. That was the PA. I asked her if she could adjust it and she said no, that is what the provider said the charge was. I asked if I could speak to the provider and she said, no, they have nothing to do with the financial part of it. Yes they do, if they decide how much to charge. She said I could talk to the office manager, but she was gone for the day (at 1:30 in the afternoon) which means not until Monday at the earliest. So, how can it cost more to see a PA at a General Practitioner's office than it does to see a specialist???? That is ridiculous. Trina didn't seem to see why I should complain and just kept coming back to the fact I had signed the paper. Don't be a sucker and sign that paper that says you will pay whatever they are in the mood to charge you! BTW, when you see Dr. Allen, expect to wait AT LEAST 45 minutes past your appointment time. I've had to each time I've seen him. It seems they could schedule his time a bit better. I am not happy at all. read more

I have lived in AZ for 20 yrs now and Dr Allen and his staff are far and away the best Doctors office I have found. I have been a patient for about a year and have always seen the same physicians assistant. Tasha is sweet and super friendly while at the same time being knowledgeable and efficient. I have met directly with Dr. Allen on two occasions and both times was impressed by his easy going manner and willingness to let you speak while actually listening and responding to what you say. Sure, getting an appointment directly with Dr. Allen takes a little longer than if you can see a PA, but that is to be expected in an office where the doctor takes his time with his patients and actually builds a rapport. The front desk has always been welcoming and courteous and has never made me feel like a number or a walking insurance card. It is nice to be a person! If you happen to call for an appointment during a busy time use the "wait in line for you" option, it works like a charm. I am the father of two young children and also a soccer coach so I have my share of seasonal sickness. I also need to go into the office almost monthly for specific medicine refills. I am adding this so you know that my review is based off of over six visits to the office in just the past year. If you are looking for a new doctors office for you and your family, a place that treats you like a person and listens, then I highly recommend you give Dr. Allen a try! read more

Another update. I went again today to see Dr Allen. My appointment was first and I was in, in no time. Office girls were really friendly and caring. They don't seem to see through me. Greeted me by name, smiled and was very helpful. Dr Allen is by far, the best Dr I've encountered. Between his knowledge, compassion and my hard work, I'm now healthy! Because he actually listens to the things I tell him, he pointed me in the right direction for me to go. I've now lost 74 pounds (over a 2 1/2 hear period) and off all "Maintance meds (bloodpressure, cholesterol and such) accept my hormones. AND I got my A1c results today... 5.8!!! (Type 2 diabetes) With his guidance I'm now healthy! First time in about 15 years! He's so caring, I get high 5's, hugs and lots of atta-girl's. I highly recommend him. read more

I went to see Dr. Allen as my MD. When I met Dr. Allen he not only was kind and compassionate but he really listens to me and my needs. His bedside manner was amazing. I have found my MD for life. This office is a mess. No one returns phone calls. They get you into a room within 15-30 minutes. Then you have wait in that room for at 20-30 minutes before the Dr or PA comes in. I have complained twice about office never responding - even talked to the office Mgr - didn't help. Just this past week I called asking if they had sent the EKG I had done at their office on 4/23 to my surgeons office as they need it before my Surgery date. I had the EKG done on 4/23 and now it is 6 weeks later and they didn't send it. So I called and left "Kim" a message to please fax a copy to my surgeon, even left the fax #, and asked her to please call me to say it was done. Nada - no phone call, didn't send it. So now I have to go over to the office and physically pick up the EKG test and get it to my surgeon. There is not one person in that office that I would consider competent and also, actually friendly and eager to help. Haven't seen many smiles either. they are busy! I have been a patient for a couple years. I have had good care. the desk is busy, yes, and the lady whom I encounter is normally younger than my tattoos. this is normal. a busy young woman expects a cranky old man to fill out papers. this never goes smoothly and its not her fault. beyond any of that stuff the care is just fine. the DR and the nurses treat me like gold. read more
