Hidden Lake Campground and Resort - Clear water in the lake

Nice quaint campground just north of Hot Springs, SD. We have a 39 foot travel trailer, and there…read morewas plenty of room for it and the truck within the pull in camp sites. First, the hospitality and management are down to earth. Very friendly and were able to answer all our questions. They have a small store with some basics.. mustard, ketchup, and beer to name a few items. Very friendly. Second, the campsite was very reasonable considering full hookups and pull through. The campsites do share water, meaning one main water faucet that is split between two campsites. The pressure isn't a problem at all. Our problem was that my camper's water was on the front left of the camper. Given the sharing, my original 20 or so foot water hose couldn't reach. Our fault for not having an extension, but we ended up having to park the other way with the camper to hook up the water. Bottom line: we are newbie campers, so just make sure you have an extension. Lesson learned. They do have a cool little lake/pond that offers fishing and swimming as well as boat rentals. Water is clear and they have it sectioned off to prevent swimming too deep. Finally, you are within 5 or so minutes of Cold Brook Reservoir, an Army Corp of Engineers recreation area. They have a super nice beach, and facilities there. You are also within minutes of the cool little town of Hot Springs. If you are looking for a cool and out of the way campground with all the amenities, check this place out!

There is a lot of unique things to do in the town of hot springs. I enjoyed the camp ground having walking trails. Every evening I was able to sit on the hill in a quiet and peaceful place to meditate. The lake is super clear and feels amazing, I felt like the water was healing. There is water sports activities to rent. There is cute cabins if you don't have an RV. There is laundry and a store to get things you need. My dogs loved going walking around the lake and the trails. I felt like I was in a high end resort with all the amenities. The price is rather cheap for what all your getting. The views and the environment are very peaceful! If your looking for a place in the black hills this is one that is worth the drive from the parks and gives you so much serenity.

We stayed for four nights in late May at the Hot Springs, SD KOA…read more We have visited the Black Hills several times over the years and wanted a quieter experience than is offered at Palmer Gulch or Rafter J. This KOA at Hot Springs definitely fit the bill! A beautiful little KOA right off Highway 79 close to downtown Hot Springs. We used this KOA as a base of operations for exploring the Black Hills / Custer / Rushmore area in addition to Badlands National Park and of course, Wall Drug! Although not as close to Rushmore as Hill City, the drive through Custer State Park is absolutely amazing! Our site was a FHU pull-through patio #51. This is a great site as it's on the end with lots of room on the camp side. Very long with ample room for tow vehicles / toads. As we travel with two juvenile labrador retrievers (LOL) getting them exercise was not a problem. Their dual area fenced Kamp K9 was a great place to let them let off steam. A lush grassy enclosure! There is also a leashed pet walk area at the back of the campground to walk the pups . Pine trees are everywhere and it created a nice shaded atmosphere. Interior roads are dirt and sites are gravel, but dust was no problem. Our patio site seemed fairly new and had lots of room with table, chairs, fire ring and gas grill. There was also lots of space to set up our outdoor dog pen. Perhaps it was the time of year, but everything in the area was very green and beautiful. We did have haze from the Canadian fires one night, but it was not a problem. Staff was very helpful and offered tips on the surrounding areas. Camp store was smaller, but had a good variety of items. Pool was not open for the season yet, but it looked nice!

We weren't too far from the shared bathrooms which was great. What felt above and beyond were real amenities like the pool (which we sadly didn't end up using), a true general store with ice and other essential items, and the fact that they even did delivery directly to campsite for firewood (which was amazing!). In addition to that there was a playground for kids, mini golf, and corn hole. The only minor detractors were the highway noise nearby, which isn't really the campgrounds fault. There are signs saying engine braking isn't allowed on that section of the highway, but there was still a lot of engine noise from truckers throughout the night. Another detractor was the small size of the fire rings. It looked like they were old brake drums from a large truck. What made this challenging is that the firewood logs didn't properly fit, which made cooking over the fire challenging, but not impossible. This is personally my first experience with KOA, but I was so impressed I look forward to staying at more of their properties!

It was a great experience I was told that if you want to see even more come earlier and you will thoroughly enjoy how much our life is out and about we went about 1 o'clock and still having to enjoy the time seeing lots of wildlife This wildlife road definitely can take you about two hours to drive on so be prepared for that if you take the wildlife road After that, we continued on to see the eye of the needle and many other amazing places they had inside the park. After driving around, we stopped by the lake. They have some beautiful deck seating for you if you decide to either go in get some food and eat on the deck area outside or take it to go either way it is a great atmosphere inside the gift shop plenty of smiling faces and Nice People working in this area. Oh, I definitely think that it was a world park and every person we encountered whether it was a park range or a worker they were very nice and courteous easy to talk to and we definitely just enjoyed our time there

We stayed in the site 25 which is technically a tent only/walk in site, but your car is parked right at the edge of your campsite so everything was still in close proximity. We had a staff member come up to us to check us in when we are setting up camp and she was so lovely. She told us everything we need to know about the campsite, where the drinking water was, what animals will be roaming the park, the pet policy, etc. The campsites are very shady which was nice! The general store has your typical souvenir apparel and gifts but also groceries, essentials, and beer! We enjoyed our stay but probably wouldn't pick this campground again because we personally like more secluded campsites.

The cabins are pretty spacious, sleep 5 and have a nice outdoor patio, table and fire pit. Every cabin has parking for 1 car and bathrooms are shared nearby. The cabins were clean and basic, bring your own sleeping bag, pillow and whatever else you need. The only downside is the tiny bathroom, we had all cabins full and a good 120-130 people in the loop. But there is only 1 bathhouse with 3 toilet/sink/shower combo. It's not a regular bathhouse with 2 stalls shower, 3-4 toilets and 3 sinks. It was 3 actual bathrooms (they call it family bathrooms) that 100+ people have to share and get ready in the morning and nighttime. So once bathroom 1 had a family of 4 showering, that was blocked for half an hour. Got one more in the shower, you are down to a single toilet until someone decides to vacate the other bathrooms. Not ideal to say the least, you just have to get in line before you really really have to go. Lol The main lodge was across the street with good food options and there was also a small store and gas station on the campground side.
