Due to the last minute nature, they did not have a large supply of lenses left in stock to rent, but they were extremely helpful in finding me a lens similiar to what I was looking for. I was in a bind and needed a camera body. Here in southern California buying used gear is crazy and the prices at local shops are close to what you would pay new which is ridiculous. I called allen's as I heard of them through the FRO and I am glad I did! I got a great deal on a used canon body and for the price I just hoped it worked. The camera arrived in almost brand new condition and was very well packaged. Price was great, body works and looks great and shipping was fairly quick. When I called for information they were very helpful and were kind enough to get the shutter count for me. Other shops here would put their nose in the air and roll their eyes at you(EVEN OVER THE PHONE) lol! I can't thank you guys enough! As a traveling professional photographer, finding a decent camera shop that caters to pro's is increasingly more difficult. I had a simple problem with my Bogen that could have really made this trip a problem. I was able to go into Allen's and find exactly the part I needed to repair the tripod and not need to replace it which was great, but beyond that, both of the staff people who helped me were friendly and knowledgeable. Thanks to the fro, I heard about Allen's Camera & Video and decided to give them a try. My shopping experiences with Allen's Camera has been amazing every time I call them. Rob, Allen, and Brandon are extremely friendly and very helpful despite my noob questions about lenses and equipment. Amazingly sometimes the guys can even recognize my voice since I call so often lol. The service is very fast and their advice is very straight forward. They do not pressure you to buy items unlike other places I have gone to before them. Despite living out in California, they have made amazing arrangements for me in order to receive my packages in a timely manner. I went in with my Father for his cannon powershot a630 because It would not close at bottom of camera via battery and card cover. A gentleman took bottom apart and after 20 minutes fixed the problem. Ask him how much we owed him he said nothing. You don't find much of this gesture anymore. I have been going to Allen's Camera for over 30 years when he was in another location and since then his business has thrived. I've found him to be very competitive with the online sites and the face to face service is a great bonus. His reputation is pretty widespread. I was in his shop one day when it was pretty busy and a man politely asked in a British accent if he could get ahead of me in line. He explained that he was on a layover at Phila. airport on a trip back to the UK and had taken a taxi that was out front with the meter running. I remember he was buying a Canon 100-400 lens and the prices were so much better than back home that it was still worth it for him to pay for a cab from the airport. It was interesting that he chose to make the trip to Allen's which was 45 minutes away (and that he even knew of his shop) instead of any place he could have found closer in Philly. It reminded me how lucky I am to be in the area. Definitely a great place to do business for anything related to cameras, printers, scanners and photo gear. read more

This place went above and beyond!!! I am from California and ordered a camera from these guys! I needed the camera a little bit sooner than there regular ground shipping. So I gave them a call. I talked to Rob I believe it was and he walked me threw the steps on how to go about doing that. About 10 min later Brandon called me and let me know the price difference of rushed shipping and all that! What blew me away was that they packaged my camera within 10 min of me placing my order and on top of that since it was a Friday they called the UPS man and delayed him from picking up there shipments just so they could get my package out that same day so I didn't have to wait till Monday!! I live in in NY so the big & famous retailers are great but as a NY resident sales tax is close to 9%. For all large purchases Allen's is my go to. Great service, sometimes better prices, quick shipping. They are authorized Nikon dealers. I love this place, the staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. No matter how busy they are they always great you when you walk in and let you know they will be right with you or ask if you need help. They didnt have what I needed bu ordered it and I got it right away. Their prices are a bit more than online prices but if you have questions or something happens they take the time to help you and do exchanges if it is a defect in the product. they also offer classes after hours to teach the basics of photography which was an excellent learning opportunity I took advantage off. It isn't expensive and thye go over everything but the intricacies of flash photography. I introduced my step dad to this place and he likes it too. read more

I have been going to this store off and on, mostly on, since 1996. they compete with the big chains on price and beat them on service. the store is family run business which is now owned by the son and daughter of the founder. they offer the largest selection of pro and amateur used gear in this area. they accept trade ins. they have an awesome internet website and ship to pros across the country. I went there after being conned by a rep at big NYC chain and at a Philly center city store. I literally would invest if this business if I had the money, they are that good at providing reliable advice, products and service. if they do not sell it, it is generally an item they tested and do not think it is reliable. you can count on being told what best fits your need and budget at this store. the big chains focus more on moving what they want to sell, even if it costs twice what you could pay instead ofbuying or a used item that is just as good. read more

When we first went into their store, we were very new to photography. The staff at Allen's treated us like we were their only customers. I went into Allen's Camera to purchase a D700 because the camera shop that I usually go to was sold out and I needed to purchase one before my weekend's wedding. When I arrived no one even noticed me there for 15 minutes. I was just standing there watching them and nothing. Finally someone asked me if I was being help and I said no. I told them I'd like to purchase a D700 and they got it. I wanted to trade in my old camera and they took it to check to see how many photos were taken. I"m a wedding photographer and I shoot about 45 weddings a year and this camera was my main camera. After the guy looked at it he said "WOW! I have never seen anyone with this many 'clicks' on it. I deal with PROFESSIONAL PHOTOGRAPHERS who don't even take this many photos" I was very offended he just assumed that I wasn't a professional. Not from PA, long ways from it, came across this awesome Madre&Padre shop while shopping in the big online A store. Called the store just to see if it was legit. It definitely was/is. I'm very skeptical when it comes to online shopping... It's like box of See's Candies. Generally don't hop away from the usual places I shop... But after research and talking to the owner, aka Brandon-not-Allen, not sure why, maybe it was once owned by Allen... anyways, losing track here, but the big Boss man was more than helpful, called, like the Saturday of Father's day weekend, sounded super busy in the back ground, in fact I called twice, both times he answered with utmost responsiveness... I know, dragging here, so shorting the story here, he did everything he said it was, item was just as I had asked that it would be, sealed, hot-off-the-molds... God help my wallet, hopefully I won't have to buy another camera... but if I do, I'll prolly try'n tap this place again to see if we can tender some more deals.... I usually bust it from the NY store, heavy taxable stuff... you know the one that starts with B and ends with H store... but I have a very viable alternative now. We recently moved to Bristol and when my daughter needed camera equipment she "googled" and found Allen's Camera & Video. I had disposable cameras and other film that were over 15 years old and never had developed. But my main concern was I believed some of that film contained pictures of my Daddy who passed away in 2000. Because of this extra sentimental value of the film it was important for me to find a shop that did it's own developing. My daughter suggested I try Allen's and I'm glad she did. It reminded me of the camera shop (Camera Craft) that has long since closed it's doors in the town where I used to live. I've only been in Allen's twice--to drop off my film and to pick up my pictures--but each time I was waited on quickly. Not only that, but I was waited on with a smile. The pictures came out beautifully and I was right--there were pictures of my Daddy attending my nephew's graduation from trade school. When my nephew comes home for Christmas and I show them to him I know it's going to be emotional for him. Allen's is the place to go for worry-free camera expertise. read more

This place is awesome. As a fairly "green" hobbyist (got my first DSLR in January) I've encountered my fair share of photographers who are less than enthusiastic about helping someone with limited experience. For that reason, I was wary about going into a brick and mortar store, but I decided to just go for it. And I'm extremely glad that I did. I was just looking for a used "consumer-grade" Nikon body to use as a second camera, wasn't interested in getting any extra peripherals (I have so many already), and wasn't looking to spend more than a pretty limited amount. Not only did they not make me feel like an idiot, they found exactly what I was looking for--and it was an excellent deal. There was a candid conversation about different types of cameras and what I should think about upgrading to in the future if I ever get to that point, but there wasn't a single attempt to upsell. No "but THIS is only $100 more!" They clearly respect their customers, they respect the craft, and they were just a joy to do business with. I will definitely be back... much to my wallet's dismay. read more
