Received almost $500 more than Buckeye Gold on just two pieces of jewelery [gold melt down price]

I went in trying to purchase something out of the window. Asked the guy at the front for help and he cut me off saying "she can do it" shoo-ing me away to some older lady. When I walked up to her she literally just walked away. I left & I'll never go back. These people suck and have no personality. I'm reviewing the coin shop area here. Quite under zealous employees who see their customers as an annoyance, in my separate scenarios with them I felt. Toke some notes/coins in to attempt to sell them three different times, just as a a test. I knew what I had & their first offer was ludicrous. All offers from them were quite different & very low-end offers, especially my first visit here. Plus, I felt like I was a hindrance to them every time I engaged them. Allen's is actually two businesses. There's Allen's Coin Shop which is a premiere coin shop and on the other side of the building is Allen's Jewelry. This review is for Allen's Jewelry. I took my15-20 year old Seiko watch in for service. They explained that they didn't do repairs on-site but that they sent repairs off-site. I dropped the watch one day; had a repair estimate by the next afternoon; and had the repaired watch back less than a week after dropping it off. I bought a watch with an expansion band on amazon, and because I have tiny wrists, it didn't fit. I asked around to find out who could adjust it for me. Allen's made the short list. I called to verify, and then brought the watch in. Service was prompt and friendly on the jewelry half of the store. I left the watch and got a claim ticket. It was done the next day, and I got the call saying I could pick it up. The watch fits perfectly on the first try. They gave me the links they took out, in good shape. I could definitely get them put back in if I ever needed to. I would highly recommend Allen's. The adjustment only costs $10 plus tax. read more

I buy coins here from time to time for my kids. They have a very nice selection of vintage jewelry at very good prices too. I believe they buy items too. I suppose the prices offered our not high since the prices to buy are reasonable. But I expect buying prices would be at least as low elsewhere as well. The staff is always very helpful. read more

I've gone to Allen's for a few years for coins and coin collection supplies but yesterday was the first day I went to the jewelry store side. I never did get the lady's name that helped my wife and I pick out a nice something for grandma but she bent over backwards to help us. She started with giving us a little history on what made these things collectible in the first place and when we told her specifically what we were looking for she led us right to it. During checkout she searched high and low for a box that was just the right size for our very fragile gift and then packaged it with the greatest care taking time to show my wife just how to unwrap our gift so as to avoid damaging. As for the coin side these fellas know their numismatics. They can come across as gruff and sometimes a bit elitist but I bet then get a lot of Looky Loos in there that just serve only to waste time. If you know what you want they are happy to help. One time I needed just one page out of a collection book and the guy simply removed that page from the only book they had in the store and sold it to me without qualm. Now that's customer service. Allen's Coin and Jewelry Shop gets only four stars because they have awful banker's hours. It's hard enough for me to get to Westerville but to do it between 9 and 6 during the week and only a few hours on Sunday make it very inconvenient. read more

After driving by this place for 7 years, I finally gave into my curiosity. It was underwhelming. A stale smelling, dark wood paneled room filled with, you guessed it, coins. Neither of the two male employees acknowledged me and I got the sense that coin collecting at this place is a club and there are no girls allowed. read more

I visited the store today. As the previous reviewer said they have a good selection and from what I could tell, they appear to buy precious metals and do appraisals. I cannot confirm that they actually sell anything, because, although I saw employees engaged in the other above activities, none of the employees of the store ever even acknowledged my presence, or gave the slighted indication that they gave a damn whether they ever sold anything to anyone, AND I WAS IN THERE FOR OVER A HALF AN HOUR! My advice is find some place else to buy coins unless you just enjoy wasting time. read more

Allens is exactly what it is, they offer collectable coins, they are extremely knowledgeable in their expertise. They offer the best prices in all of Columbus when it comes to buying gold. I promise you won't find anyone anywhere else that will beat their offer. Yes they are rough on the edges at times but most of them if you address them will say hello. Remember they are people with their their own issues. I've read the comments below. What do you want? A well established fair trade company? Or a shining new polished store with super smiles? Today, May 2, 2017 I stopped at Allen's Coin Shop. It was 11:05 when I entered and I had some items I wanted to sell. There were two men behind the silver/gold area counter, they were in a deep conversation with someone. I waited at the east end counter until 11:15, grabbed my items off the counter and left the building. Not once did anyone acknowledge my presence or offer to help me. The repeated conversation I overheard though seemed to be concern over some 10 by 10 room. Over the last couple of years I have made several expensive purchases and will now find another source. Stopped into the trinkets part of the store yesterday with a few items I was hoping they could tell me about. They were from an estate and I hadn't gotten a chance to go through them yet. The greeting I received was, "what do you want?" by one of the female employees. I explained I didn't know what I had or where I should go for information (other than online) and was hoping they could tell me something about what I had or suggest where I could go for more information. Apparently what I had wasn't good enough for them. Was told they don't sell what I have so they didn't want it. Then she walked away as she told me the items should be packed better. Major attitude. The other lady was a little more helpful and actually looked at one of the items. I felt like I was bothering them. Sorry I had junk you didn't want. Hello, I sincerely suggest that who ever wants to buy gold coins at this location please do your home work as there was lot of difference in price per coin vs different stores online. As their website says unconditional guarantee for 30 days which is not correct. I tried to return but they were not ready to take the item. They are in business for so many years and brought the gold coins from a referral but unfortunately I noticed they are very poor in customer service and so rude with the customers. read more

I just left Allen's about two hours ago. I don't know what was happening, I do know I will not be going back. The fellow that offered to help me appeared to be upset and preoccupied. And while waiting on me, he just walked away - twice - and stayed away. During his second, unexplained absence, I left. When we started, I told him what I wanted to do. He threw a coin down on the counter, told me what the spot price was, what their markup was, and he spoke very rapidly. He seemed genuinely angry that I dared to ask him more questions about availability, smaller quantities, and why the markup was so much higher than what he had first shown me. And we never even got to conclude our transaction. Alas, he just walked away. Please understand. I am a customer and have made major purchases from Allen's in the past. Sadly, Allen's will get no more business from me. I will not go back. Besides, I'll bet there are other shops that want my business as much or more than Allen's Coin Shop. read more
