Ambiance: 4/5 The wooden paneling on the walls and the floor give the establishment a cozy feeling, which also includes the heat which helped during December. I was surprised to discover that the main lobby leads to two larger areas of the establishment through a small hallway not easily seen from the entrance. I thought that this unique architectural design works well for this establishment. It also helps if any part of the store gets too noisy, and you want to eat elsewhere. Despite the cramped feeling you get when walking in, the multiple spaces make up for it. However, I would be concerned about dust collection upon arriving. I can never be sure whether every item had a decent dusting. Food: 5/5 I ordered the Jeff Special, which is one of Allenwood General Store's signature dishes, which is essentially an omelet with chicken, turkey bacon, garlic, spinach, and feta cheese; along with Orangeade. I can see the Mediterranean influence with this omelet, along with adding two meats, making this a dish unique enough to become signature to the establishment. Every part of the Jeff Special had a well-prepared heat, and it held its form while also having a softness easy to cut through with my fork's edge. Such healthy ingredients like eggs and spinach definitely make the dish worth eating with its hearty taste, along with the chicken and turkey that spice it up, and the feta cheese that gives it a warm texture. I would say that such nutrient-dense ingredients filled me throughout the day. As expected, the Jeff Special was named after the current owner, while the Heather Special was named after his wife and co-owner. I will say that Jeff literally has good tastes. We stopped here for a quick bite after paddle boarding over in Point Pleasant. We ordered the Western Omelette and Two Eggs Basted. The eggs were good and the breakfast potatoes tasty, but a bit oily. It's a good stop for a quick, inexpensive bite to eat. In the back of the store they even sell homemade ice cream. There was an original "Allenwood General Store," at one time, which was located about 100 yards up the street and established in the 1850s. This family run location has been in operation since 1925. The inside is rather interesting. Imagine venturing down to grandmas basement and finding decades of junk (which may be considered a treasure by some.) I don't think I would eat inside again. I believe in patronizing the Mom and Pop places. This morning, while out on a power bike ride I though I would stop into the place I have often passed. I grabbed a bottle of water and small bag of chips. Went to counter to pay but nobody bothered to come to counter yet 5 were behind the counter cooking etc. Not one of those 5 said said a word. After what felt like 5 mins, but was actually about 2 mins, I turned around, place the water back in the cooler and the chips back on shelf and departed. Just come in and browse around and just look at the decor of NJ past and present in one quick glance. I haven't been here in a year and NOTHINGS changed ... except the prices, which are still decent. Great food and great people, however don't be shocked when you walk in and nobody has on a mask. Nobody. Just make sure you wear your own mask and I'm sure you will be fine. There is no sign on the door saying you need a mask to enter so maybe they all tested negative and don't feel the need to wear them with each other. I've been here a few times and I've only ever gotten one thing: porkroll, egg and cheese with salt, pepper, and ketchup. I've lived in the area for a few years and in my opinion this is an area staple. The shop has such a cool, sort of mystical, old school feel and they always deliver great food. The shop doubles as an antique shop and it is always fun to take a look around at all the hidden treasures they have. Countless licence plates, road signs and all kinds of other antiques. This is a place I would love to take my dad to! (He lives in South Carolina) He would love it and I would love to share it with him! A couple of friends of mine from out of town were here for a visit and we always go her for breakfast when they come. The sandwiches were great but it seems they've gotten a bit stingy with the porkroll. As much as this stinks, I definitely understand if they are having to cut costs. Pork roll doesn't require a bank roll. Hey, okay, I don't live at the shore. I'm here for a few days, and I've never stayed in Monmouth County in the past, so when I read about this place, especially since it's around the corner, I wanted to try it. It's next to the bike path, which is convenient. It was a little confusing to drive there, since the road names change. This pork roll sandwich is a specialty of theirs. I wasn't sure how things worked, and really, they didn't seem to have a clear method. There were two on the grill and they switched sides just as I arrived at the counter. I was paying more attention to their technique than to the menu board, which is just above and between customers and workers. I figured that I would try the pork roll sandwich, not actually knowing what it was. It was egg + cheese or egg + meat, where the pork roll was the meat (or bacon or something else), and I wanted both the pork roll and the cheese. I ordered, and asked about drinks, since I saw the refrigerated case to the left. He said to pick something and I could pay after I finished eating. After a while, I heard them calling numbers and names, but he didn't ask my name. No problem--who is the weird foreigner who doesn't live in the area? (This is where I raise my hand and then, feel embarrassed. :-D) He found me, and brought a really good-looking sandwich on a Kaiser roll with poppy seeds to my table. I'm not the bread type, but I was enthusiastic at this point. They were smart enough to cut it in half to make it easier to handle. I still didn't know what to expect but it was great. The pork was a bit salty, and reminded me of Virginia Ham. The roll was tender and warm. The egg was cooked well, with a little crispy edge, and the cheese wasn't dribbling everywhere. They could have used a third person to clean tables and take orders and cash but the food is good, so unless the tables become really bad, it's not a real problem. read more

The whole experience was very unwelcoming. Waited in line for them to take someone behind us.The lady that was helping us had a crazy attitude. Was very rude to us&very short. Overheard her talking to someone saying she was "untouchable" that doesn't give you the right to treat customers like they are pieces of garbage. If you don't want to work with people don't work with people. Sorry your life is so miserable you have to be miserable to strangers. Asked a younger employee about a plate on the wall and she didn't know the answer so we asked the other girl with the gray hat that helped us previously and she gave us more attitude rudely said the things on the wall weren't for sale. When there are signs all over saying everything is for sale. We found a plate we wanted and brought it back to the same girl and she questioned us asking if we got it off the wall? She was just incredibly rude to us. My mother tried talking with her and she gave her attitude because she has a soft voice. Just so unwelcoming and the food wasn't amazing either.
