    Jeff's Special

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Here in Allenwood, you will find an eatery that encapsulates the small town charm with every dish.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Brand: 5/5 Allenwood General Store has been in operation since at least the 1850s. After going through a series of owners, it continued to retain its status as a general store since 1972. I will say that the brand has a consistency of homeyness, especially since the original sign hangs upon the inside wall as a reminder of the original owners. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside, you will find many relics from the past cluttered around the establishment, and all for retail. You will also find a deli that sells meat, cheese, and coffee. So, it would be fair to refer to Allenwood General Store as an antique-shop-and-deli.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Website: 4/5 It opens to a view of the general store in a classic style, while scrolling you down to the menu and pictures of the store. It also features their backstory that provides an insight into New Jersey history. I have yet to be sure where I can find the specific menu items on the site. It also does not immediately inform you what exactly the General Store sells in text, since you have to make inferences from the images about the antiques, knickknacks, and wall art they sell. Wait Time: 5/5 We experienced no delays or interruptions while waiting for our orders. Ambiance: 4/5 [[HIGHLIGHT]]The wooden paneling on the walls and the floor give the establishment a cozy feeling, which also includes the heat which helped during December.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I was surprised to discover that the main lobby leads to two larger areas of the establishment through a small hallway not easily seen from the entrance. I thought that this unique architectural design works well for this establishment.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It also helps if any part of the store gets too noisy, and you want to eat elsewhere. Despite the cramped feeling you get when walking in, the multiple spaces make up for it.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]However, I would be concerned about dust collection upon arriving. I can never be sure whether every item had a decent dusting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food: 5/5 I ordered the Jeff Special, which is one of Allenwood General Store's signature dishes, which is essentially an omelet with chicken, turkey bacon, garlic, spinach, and feta cheese; along with Orangeade. I can see the Mediterranean influence with this omelet, along with adding two meats, making this a dish unique enough to become signature to the establishment. Every part of the Jeff Special had a well-prepared heat, and it held its form while also having a softness easy to cut through with my fork's edge. Such healthy ingredients like eggs and spinach definitely make the dish worth eating with its hearty taste, along with the chicken and turkey that spice it up, and the feta cheese that gives it a warm texture. I would say that such nutrient-dense ingredients filled me throughout the day. As expected, the Jeff Special was named after the current owner, while the Heather Special was named after his wife and co-owner. I will say that Jeff literally has good tastes. Service: 5/5 I could tell that the staff genuinely enjoy their work. Worth The Money?: 5/5 The menu items absolutely reflect the brand of Allenwood General Store, from the omelets to the sandwiches. They also manage to welcome anyone either coming to the store itself or to the website. The feta cheese within the Jeff Special, as homey as the ambiance, has a special place within Allentown General Store. The wait time it took to cook the meal managed to match its preparation. I would be curious as to what signature dish could be named after Allenwood. Would it be an omelet or a sandwich? I had no issues with the wait time, since I managed to do my writing within a tolerable amount of noise. Indeed, I felt audibly lost as I ate the Jeff Special. Normally, I would think that an omelet and an Orangeade would cost too much of about $18, however because of how filling it was, and because it represented the establishment perfectly, I would say that price was definitely worth it. Rating: 5/5 Stars I have hope that Allenwood General Store will bring the aesthetics of the small town general store of the past to the future. Recommend To... Anyone looking for the small town general store vibe while also having a good meal on the side.

this place was good. the food was good not great. was a little salty, i got a bacon egg and cheese. [[HIGHLIGHT]]the inside is nice i love the stuff inside but some of the things need to be cleaned.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] the worker was nice. a bit of a wait but to crazy.

    Cobb salad

This is supposed to be a Cobb salad. I opened it up to only find an egg avocado tomato and lettuce. Where's the turkey, bacon, & cheese. Why did I pay $15 for this? So disappointing

    Two eggs basted

We stopped here for a quick bite after paddle boarding over in Point Pleasant. We ordered the Western Omelette and Two Eggs Basted. The eggs were good and the breakfast potatoes tasty, but a bit oily. It's a good stop for a quick, inexpensive bite to eat. In the back of the store they even sell homemade ice cream. There was an original "Allenwood General Store," at one time, which was located about 100 yards up the street and established in the 1850s. This family run location has been in operation since 1925. The inside is rather interesting. Imagine venturing down to grandmas basement and finding decades of junk (which may be considered a treasure by some.) I don't think I would eat inside again. It was rather dark, and all the random paraphernalia surrounding our table was just too cluttered and seemed dirty.

    Ole time NJ

This place is a one of NJ's best hidden landmarks. This old wooden general store is from the agrarian days of the 19th century. Just come in and browse around and just look at the decor of NJ past and present in one quick glance. I haven't been here in a year and NOTHINGS changed ... except the prices, which are still decent. I ordered a porkroll, egg & cheese on a Kaiser roll w/a coffee. What can you say about the national publicity that porkroll is getting as of late. We, New Jerseyians , have known for years about porkroll and how decadent it is for you , BUT once in a while you gotta " let go " and enjoy the salty taste of NJ's own creation from Trenton. . It is NOT spam. So with a campy sandwich and a retro general-store, my day started off on a great note. The staff is very friendly.
