They identified things I knew and did not know I was allergic to during the testing. Great info to know.

This office is excellent. I have never went to a Dr.'s office where they actually took the time to tell you what is going on, what they are doing (in real terms - not Doctor language). Everyone was pleasant and they made you feel very comfortable. From the time I arrived at the front desk Claudia was very polite to Lisa doing the preliminaries and running test and to Nurse Practioner Cuffe reviewing everything and listening to what I was feeling and how I felt....I thank you for a wonderful experience and yes....I'm actually feeling better! Today was the worst doctor's appointment of my life. I showed up for an appointment with Dr. Pineda. Once the nurse had taken my vitals, she said the nurse practitioner (Michelle Munson) would be in to see me. I asked what she meant because my appointment was with Dr. Pineda. She said Dr. Pineda is out today and you are seeing the nurse practitioner. I said that wasn't who my appointment was with and asked whom I could speak to. She ushered me to the front desk where the lady there said we called everyone yesterday to inform them that Dr. Pineda would be out today. I informed her that I received a call from their office which I answered but it was only to confirm my appointment and that I would be coming. Your office expects me to sign a paper agreeing to pay a fine if I cancel with less than 24 hours notice, and then you do not even have the courtesy to extend the same to me. I wasn't informed about the doctor's cancellation until I was already in the back waiting room. That is terrible. I took a day off work to see Dr. Pineda specifically!  No one seemed to understand my concern and no one even apologized for my inconvenience. They acted like my concerns were not valid. Very rude, unprofessional staff. When the nurse practitioner came in and we discussed an allergy test, I requested to do a blood allergy test and she said "we do not typically do that" which she later clarified as they "won't do it". I ended up getting a hurried 58 allergy prick test on my back and the nurse who did it simply said nothing was reactive (maybe 1). I found that hard to believe since my back was on fire and itched, and several of the foods on the list normally cause major throat irritation and itching for me. It seemed like the staff just wanted me out of the office and did not take the time to do the test correctly. When the nurse practitioner returned, she said I was allergic to "nada" which was rather cold and dismissive of my concerns. I asked for follow up blood testing and she said maybe for a test or two but nothing else because it wasn't warranted based on these results. I do not trust her results or how the testing was carried out. This is why I didn't want to meet with the nurse practitioner to begin with. She was unsympathetic, unknowledgeable, and very rigid in her protocols (and not open to discussing other options). Horrible experience! It's hard to be respectful of doctor's protocols, time, and rules when she doesn't have the same respect for your time as a patient. read more

Allergy shot never happened. I waited 1 hr 10 min and nobody called me. Then front desk lied about why another person was taken before me who had just came in. Said person has a dr appointment when the person had just told me they were in there for allergy shot only. I'm the only person in the lobby as everyone was cleared one by one. How am I missed? When I left nobody asked me my name so that part! Ugh read more

I booked an appointment before the July 4th holiday. I was told to arrive early for the appointment because I was a new patient and will need to fill out paperwork. I arrived 15 minutes before my 8:00 appointment and the office was closed. That was the first mistake. After I signed in and was taken to the back, it was the MA who told me the doctor I was scheduled to see was not in the office and I would be seeing someone else. Why didn't I receive a phone call ahead of time telling me the provider cancelled clinic last minute because she realized it was a holiday weekend and wanted a mini vacation? Why wasn't I informed of the provider switch at check-in? It is poor practice to change the doctor without consulting the patient first. I chose my provider for a reason and if she wasn't going to be in the office, I should have been given the option to be seen by another doctor or reschedule. That was the second mistake. I told the substitute doctor that I had been receiving allergy injections for almost 10 years and was interested in transferring care to this practice. I also made this known when I scheduled the appointment. The sub told me they couldn't do anything for me on this day bc they didn't have my records from my previous doc. Now why I wasn't instructed to bring those with me at the time I scheduled the appointment is beyond me. The MA tried to get my records during my visit but my previous doctor's office was closed for the holiday. The MA and front desk rep told me they would submit the signed medical release to my previous doc after the holiday and once the records were received, they'd bring me back in. It's been almost a month and I haven't heard anything. Mistake number three. read more

After being diagnosed with severe allergies to a laundry list of environmental and food items, I've been visiting an allergist once a week for almost an entire year. In order for them to administer my allergy shots and keep a close watch on my situation, it has been very important to me to have a reliable, competent, compassionate, and understanding doctor's office. Since my original allergist closed up shop, I was on the search for another allergist that could fit my particular needs, nearby. That's when I stumbled upon The Allergy and Asthma Center. The first person I spoke with was the very friendly and personable receptionist, Thelma. I asked her a ton of questions and expressed my many concerns. To my surprise, she answered all of my questions with heartfelt responses. I was actually thinking of going to an allergist even closer to me, but what won me over was the compassion Thelma displayed toward my allergy needs. I could tell that she took her job seriously and that she cared about the patients well-being. It was because of her that I decided to step out on a limb and become a patient at this allergy office. I've been a patient for 5 months now and Thelma is still that helpful, caring, and bright personality that greets me at the front desk. We're like old friends! The Allergy and Asthma Center has several offices throughout Maryland, so the doctors at the offices vary daily. I've been seen by Dr. Okocha, who was very friendly and very willing to discuss all of my allergy issues and needs. Apparently, my old allergy office was living in the prehistoric days, because some of the practices they do at this office is very advanced. If you receive an allergy shot, it is mandatory that you stay at least 30 minutes after the shot is administered, so the staff can monitor your response. With that being said, make sure to check the hours of operation so the staff can administer your shot and you have time to wait after the shot. Since I've been coming here, I've had some allergic reactions to my shots and I've had to call the doctor's office for emergency purposes. Each time I was assisted in a very prompt manner. They take your allergy needs very seriously in this office and I appreciate it. The schedule for allergy shots is very flexible and accommodating for people like me, who don't work nearby. The staff are all friendly and helpful, the location is very convenient and the bedside manner from the doctors and other staff are all top notch. I'm glad to have an office that treats my allergy concerns as serious as I do. In my earlier stages of being diagnosed, I had some rather scary and frantic experiences with allergic reactions, so to say I take my allergies very seriously, is an understatement. Hopefully, the newly designed serum this office has created for me will alleviate my allergy issues. I have nothing but positive things to say about The Allergy and Asthma Center. read more

Although the staff is friendly and they have convenient hours, their billing department needs A LOT of work. I have two insurance which means one is primary, and the other is secondary. They can never get the coordination of benefits correct for proper billing. Because of their inefficiency, they denied my child service because they said I had a balance of over $50 and they could not see my child until I paid the balance off. I explained and showed them my EOB stating that I owed $0.00, but their system didn't reflect that. read more

I've been going to this office for a few years and have always had positive experiences there. The nurses with the shots are efficient and pleasant. My only semi-negative is that there seems to be doctor turnover with this practice. However, upon meeting Nurse Practitioner Russell, I will be staying. She was very good to work with - kind, knowledgeable and resourceful. She listened to my concerns and answered all questions thoroughly. She lessened my concerns about meeting someone new as she took the time to review my history and explain it to me in detail. She is definitely an asset and I'm glad to have her as my allergy and asthma specialist. read more

I cannot say enough good about this office!! The nurse who assisted us as well as the Dr. were tremendously professional and personable (as well as all other staff members). They took the time to work through all of the asthma and allergy issues my daughter was experiencing, and at no point did I feel rushed. We were in the office for a few hours working through some test and various things, and while that may seem like a lot of time... it was quality time put in to ensure we had the best action plan set forth for my daughter.
