Wasted 10 months and $3,000 here, paid for services not completed correctly: After years of struggling and overpaying debt repair programs, I felt like Allmand Law was ready to help me into bankruptcy. My first contact with them was in September 2025 and they asked me to cease all payments and that in order for us to begin, I would have to pay over $3000. I agreed and started paying monthly. I paid them in full by February 2026 and the process started. We had meetings to go over all of my debts and expense calculations. I took the required courses and they submitted everything to the court. We even got to the meeting of debtors With the judge and were good. Afterwards, they realized they had messed up on their calculations by including one too many vehicles. The lawyer, I spoke with, Partin Whitaker (aka Hurley Partin Whitaker II), Suggested that I dismiss the case, get married, and refile as a married woman with a family of five and pay another 3000 to do the process again. Even though this all could have been avoided by them doing the correct calculations and reviews, they refuse to refund any of my payments. These errors were THEIR FAULT. Warning About My Experience With Allmand Law (Chapter 13) - Tax Return Handling + No Follow-Through (26 Months In) Posting this as a warning based on my personal experience with Allmand Law in my Chapter 13 bankruptcy. We are currently about 26 months into our Chapter 13 plan. Important context (to avoid confusion) In 2025, we received communication from the trustee's office stating that we were able to keep our entire tax return. Because of that, and because we were trying to follow the rules, we had no reason to believe we would later be hit with a large lump-sum demand long after the refund was received. What happened 1/15/2026: I timely provided my completed 2025 tax return to Allmand Law. 1/27/2026: I received confirmation from their office that they received it and would forward it to the trustee. May 2026: The trustee filed a motion/notice to dismiss for failure to provide the tax return--despite the fact I had already submitted it and had email proof and confirmation. MY WIFE AND I HAD TO REDACT OUR OWN TEX RETURN AND UPLOAD THEM TO THE TRUSTTEE PORTAL OURSELVES. Now Allmand Law did eventually do the same, but not until the motion to dismiss was filed. After I raised the issue and provided proof, the trustee moved forward with a plan modification requiring a lump-sum payment of over $4,000 tied to the tax refund/turnover, and I was told it was approved. Why this is a serious problem By the time the lump-sum demand came up, the refund funds were no longer available due to a real emergency: 2/21/26: My wife had an emergency oophorectomy, including ambulance transport and treatment at two hospitals. Between medical bills and work disruption (we have five children, and I missed work to manage the household and care for them), the refund was exhausted. Communication problems I repeatedly contacted Allmand Law (including emails on 6/18/26 and 7/16/26, plus a phone call). During the phone call I was told someone would speak to the lead attorney and call me back with a plan forward. That callback never happened. Meanwhile, I'm left facing a trustee modification and compliance risk that I cannot meet as a lump sum. Bottom line Based on my experience: critical documents were not handled/forwarded properly after being confirmed as received, and when the consequences hit, I did not receive timely follow-through or clear action to protect my case. If you're considering hiring this firm for Chapter 13, get everything in writing, confirm what is actually being filed/uploaded, and be cautious. We had our bankruptcy case filed first under 100% repayment plan, and when you guys saw that we could not afford a 100% repayment plan, as originally discussed, you guys revised the paperwork at a 60% repayment plan, now back to 100% repayment plan with no paperwork to review and nothing for us to sign acknowledging this? Just a letter in the mail with the increase, When our income had not changed. We were provided with bankruptcy paperwork on a client of yours, not even our paperwork. You provided us with personal information on their bankruptcy case their first and last name they're mailing address. You also filed a debt from one of your other clients under our bankruptcy case and had to get that fixed when WE pointed out that was someone elses debt. This was the day before court. This firm was rather disappointing. I was referred to them from another site that helps link affordable attorneys with clients. chapter 7 fee was $3000 and had to be paid prior to filing. That makes it extremely difficult to proceed. They offer payment plans but only file once everything is paid. That for one does not make it easy on a client who is already in a bad situation. It forces a delay when a filing needs to be done quickly. Out of the 5 lawyers I have spoken with this is the most expensive one. Two other lawyers off to file with a low down payment to start and still ends up being cheaper than $3k. I was told that if I wanted to file for free or with zero down to call Legal Aid. I was not looking for free, I was looking for payments while the process was going. This is a law firm that seems to say all the right things and have the imagine and google reviews to seem great. It's sad that it's not an elite law firm. I tried giving them the benefit of doubt but I learned in a 6 month period that this is a volume law firm. They just want to collect money and sign up people. The only reason Allmand scored even a 3 is due to their staff of attorneys' knowledge in Ch. 13. They have all been great. That's where it ends. The support staff is laughable at best, in my experience. Just now, after 28 minutes and getting a "supervbisor" on the phone, I was mysteriously disconnected. This is the worst law firm EVER! I will be filing complaints with the TX Bar Association as well as the BBB. If you would like your case handled by a call center with attorneys that couldn't care less about you then this is your place! If you want to speak with someone, you email a request, they create a ticket and then they never get back to you! You are completely ignored and have no recourse. They have no respect for the troubled times you may be facing and make it clear that you do not matter. I highly recommend getting your legal issues taken care of somewhere else. As you see below from the other ratings they have deceptive practices. They advertise on their website that they will inform you of bankruptcy and non bankruptcy options. Non of this is true. They will push you to file bankruptcy even if there are better alternatives, because that's where they get the bigger retainer. If you decide that bankruptcy is not the best option, suddenly they won't return your calls. They will attempt to keep all of the retainer you paid, even if they did nothing. Do not use these attorneys. I wish I had read the reviews first. Not going into the details of my bankruptcy, but they cost me more than I actually had to pay. They have me paying for stuff that I don't even owe. I asked to file an objection to what I was being charged and they never got back with me. They said they emailed me. I never received the email. They said they sent. The attorneys or paralegals never called to check and see if I received that email. Once you pay them, they are through with you. Myself, like others that I have read on here, would not give any stars if that were an option. read more
