I love how adorable the outdoor patio space is, with string lights and sun protection hanging from trees over pleasant marble tables great for small groups. We were the last table to join for the night, so things were more relaxed in service, which was nice for us, since we had a bit more time between each service moment to hang out. But, expect some of the daily specials to be out of stock by night time. We each ordered a starter and a dessert, plus a drink. I would not say that this is exceptional dining when it comes to Italian in Portland, but it is great! We are blessed with so much good food here, that I would definitely come back to dine with friends who have never been. I know that the higher costs we see day to day are not due to businesses, but the President and their trade ideas, but it still is frustrating to see cocktails approaching $20. While it is a bit pricey, as most places in the NW are, especially those catering to a demographic with quite a bit more disposable income, the food actually stands up. Their calamari is above average and their Carbonara is incredible - it strikes the balance between an overly-sauced Hangover cure and a gentrified artisanal pasta, possessing the best qualities of both. Overall, I think this spot is great if you are looking for a classic Italian spot . Walked in at 7:30pm to place a to-go order and had a glass of wine at the *very small* bar while I waited (2-3 backless barstools right along the walkway to the kitchen, so not ideal). As far as seated dining, the restaurant was intimate and dimly lit so pretty romantic, but the (maybe) 5 tables were pretty packed together inside so lacked privacy. There was additional seating outside on the sidewalk which is lit by string lights but also right next to Glisan so car traffic. This is a 2-story restaurant with a long, narrow flight of stairs going up to the 2nd floor where I imagine more seating existed. The wine list didn't provide the name of the wines sold by the glass, but the Sauvignon Blanc was very good. I ordered the ravioli in brown butter sage sauce and chose the mushroom ricotta filling. It was delicious but I was surprised at the very small portion, considering the price was $25. I just didn't feel the meal was worth it. If you don't have a reservation or can't manage stairs, you might want to consider another restaurant option. read more

Most inattentive restaurant I have ever been sat at. The environment was incredibly noisy. Food had way too much pepper and you could tell it was not made with love. I could've paid less and ate better at an olive garden, maybe even old spaghetti factory. There were also bugs in my water. Not cool. Extremely overpriced for the quality and taste of the food. Cute spot for a romantic date night! A bit overpriced and a few hidden fees - we got a burrata special and thought it came with bread but the bread was extra. Making the special out to be $27. We might have chosen something differently if we knew the cost! I also ordered a short rib pappardelle pasta expecting something with beef and a sort of darker sauce but it ended up being pork and didn't taste bad but reminded me of a chicken noodle soup with the flavor combination. First visit here after a commendation from a trusted friend. We're were greeted with the Gez Z stare. Not a warm friendly welcome. But after that our waiter and the food runners were pleasant and professional. The meal was fantastic and the flow of food and beverages was timely. We were not rushed at all which was nice. Every bite of each dish was delicious and several people with me thought it was a " percent" meal. Not sure I would go back as the space is a little too dark for me and there are equally great Italian restaurants in the neighborhood that are more welcoming. read more

I was impressed by how they brought drinks and food skillfully up and down the narrow stairs. Restaurant had a romantic vibe. Small but still able to have great conversation and laughter with friends. Lots of folks on dinner dates. Couldn't decide between gnocchi and short rib ragu. The smaller waiter with short hair was great at making me feel valued by letting me know the specials/soup/ fish of the day. He's the only reason this restaurant is getting a 4 star. Otherwise, I would've given it a 3 star. I ordered a glass of Chianti, the baguette and Spaghetti Carbonara. There was a fruit fly that was flying around my food and it was a little annoying. I wished the carbonara had pepper cooked in it. I had to ask for pepper and the waiter let me keep it at the table. That's how carbonara is cooked. Also, look at the presentation in the picture of the carbonara and how lob-sided it is. The cook just didn't give af. Just taking the time to make it more round if you're gonna serve it on a round plate. Most of the pastas were $24 so the 2 dollar signs should really be 3. We went there for father's day with a party of six. The evening started well with good appetizers and a nice ambiance. Service was spotty with the food arriving in stages. Four of us got our food, then later one more came and finally the six person got their food. If we waited for all to be served our food would have been cold. I had dinner here with a friend Sat night, August 3rd, & it was wonderful! We were visiting from Seattle and staying in a hotel just a couple blocks away. It was warm out but comfortable, so we walked over and decided to sit outside. They had about half a dozen cute round tables, like being at a sidewalk café in Paris! (LOL) it was on ice and was just sweet enough and very refreshing for a summer evening My friend and I shared a small Caesar salad, which was very tasty. Then I had the spaghetti carbonara which was excellent and just the right portion. My friend had the rigatoni with papardelle pasta; she loved it (and I loved my taste of it as well) but it was a large portion. Had we been at home, I'm sure she would've brought it home to have for lunch, but as we were staying in a hotel, had to leave the leftovers behind. We finished off our meal by sharing a vanilla bean crème brûlée. It was sumptuous! Had that wonderful sugar on the top, which we happily cracked into and the Brulé itself was smooth and delicious. It was one of those perfect restaurant experiences, and I/we certainly will plan to go back the next time in Portland! -Oh, by the way, this was the Pearl district and it felt very safe to us. Everywhere we walked in the area was fine , no homeless to be seen. We went here for our anniversary dinner with our two teenage kids and sat outside in the covered patio area. They do take reservations, but not for the patio. The inside space is on two levels, and great for date night or groups of 4 people. There's also a private dining space next door. Overall, we enjoyed the food and wine. We weren't blown away by anything and some dishes stood out above the others, but it's definitely worth a visit. Polenta Fries - nice and crispy on the outside, served with a spicy dipping sauce (which we think is the same as the calamari sauce). Calamari - my daughter wasn't a fan (and she loves calamari) but I really liked how nicely the calamari was cooked and the slight sweet/salty combo of the seasoning in the breading. Spaghetti Carbonara - my son loves carbonara and the one at Allora got two thumbs up. I had a taste and it was, indeed, delicious! Rigatoni Pomodoro e Prosciutto - my husband ordered this and we loved it. The sauce was just right and while he didn't care for the way the prosciutto was sort of just torn by hand and thrown into the dish, it tasted amazing. Spaghetti al Sugo di Carne - I was sadly disappointed in the dish I ordered. The spaghetti tasted old and stale (totally different than the spaghetti that came with my son's carbonara), and the sauce was very bland. I love sugo di carne at most Italian restaurants; this one was a miss. The wine list is a solid list. My husband had a glass of Chianti and I had a glass of Nebbiolo; both were enjoyable. You'll pay $3 for a half order or $6 for a full order of focaccia bread with olive oil. The bread has some red pepper flakes so some bites have a little kick, but the bread itself was fluffy and tasted fresh. We stopped by on Easter Sunday after walking to another Italian restaurant that ended up being closed. Allora welcomed us in and we were seated quickly. It was fairly busy but overly packed. We ordered a Caesar salad, half bottle of wine, spicy spaghetti with pancetta and a creamy read sauce pasta - I think the pomodora. Everything was incredibly delicious! The experience was mixed, with the ambiance standing out as the biggest positive. The food we got was average; not bad, but not outstanding. We got the burrata, house made focaccia, Spaghetti Amatriciana, Spaghetti Basilico, and the tiramisu. Nothing was objectionable but there were truly no standouts. The service was a bit odd. Our server constantly checked in on us and even when not checking in would walk by eyeing us or hovering. For example she asked if she could bring us the check and my date had just ordered another glass of wine. She brought us the check along with our dessert. It felt like we were being rushed the whole time despite there being no line for tables and in fact a few open ones.
