I would warn folks that it is very tight navigating in places-- I am petite and still felt a little claustrophobic. A lot of that is likely the crowds on sale day, but isles are narrow and there are a few places where you can get "trapped" if other customers don't see you standing behind. I absolutely love stationary, and this place scratched my letter-writing itch. I ended up picking out a couple of sets of cards + envelopes to add to my collection. These are BEAUTIFUL and well made. Prices were reasonable, and the clearance items were an absolute steal. The staff were super friendly and attentive and they seemed to be doing a good job keeping everything in order even though there were a lot of people here.

Fabulous gift shop selling good from local artists…read more I have to admit I underestimated this shop from the outside. I had walked past it countless times walking up and down 23rd, but finally decided to stop in when I was looking for a gift for my partner's mom. I was not disappointed, and this shop has something for everyone, not just middle aged moms. Not only did I find the perfect gift and card, I bought a few things to take home for myself. The quality and craftsmanship of the items here is really impressive. From the paper quilled greeting cards, to the pottery, to the hand carved wooded fountain pens, I was in awe at the level of talent displayed in this store. It's really well decorated (with emphasis on the current season) and there is eye candy everywhere you look. I really wish I had taken more pictures because the two I took just do not do this place justice. My favorite part of the store was the "toppings bar", a cute little nook filled with ribbons and cute gift tags to add the perfect finishing touch to any wrap job. Bottom line: If you are looking for a gift, or just something festive for your holiday decor or table setting, this is a great place to consider.

I love it that you can hear the clickity clack of the presses from the minute you walk in, because they actually are conducting printing while you are in the store. The cards, stationary and wall prints (either suitable for framing, or in some cases, sold in frames) are artful, odd, and whimsical. I suspect that many people who don't know Lark Press stumble in during their two hour weekend wait for brunch mecca, Tasty n Sons. On the other hand, those epic waits provide great exposure to a reemerging art form that's taking off in Portlandia, and all over the Pacific NW.

That's as far as clothing, anyway; they also sell a lot of toys, some art supplies, that sort of thing for children. I didn't look at every piece of clothing here but what I purchased was all from brands I haven't heard of before, and really lovely stuff, so in addition to adding the shop on Instagram I'll have to check out the brands too. The woman helping me was very friendly, happy to help but to give me space. I bought a top for my babe and when I was looking at it she mentioned she had a navy colorway, which wasn't out on the floor but she went to get it for me to take a look at and I MUCH preferred it to the green one I had seen and was considering. I can't wait to see her in it! It's not a cheap shop, particularly if you're looking for clothing. But they had a sale going on when I was here and the two racks were packed with stuff. And the toys are generally not as high priced as the clothing if you're looking for a gift or something. If you're on a tour of children's stores in Portland, add this one to your list.
