I feel that my child (6th grade) is getting really good education at almost half of the tuition that some other private schools charge. And the tuition ($1450) covers staying there all day long, i.e. till 5:30pm. Some other private schools charge more but are open till 3:00 only. I personally think it's quite affordable especially considering the fact that even in public schools I was paying around $600 for after school day care and then to supplement the public school education, I was sending my kid to Kumon, another $300. But the quality of education here is so much better than Kumon, the kids are learning things above their normal grade level. All the teachers are really caring and hard-working. The English teacher Ms Sandya works tirelessly and creates custom lessons based on children's level and is really prepping them for future SATs/college essays, etc. The school also has no screen policy except for the computer class which has really been a blessing as doing that is bringing back children's focus in today's screen slaver world. The class sizes are really small right now (less than 5 kids in most classes) but even then my child is really happy going there. So overall we are very satisfied and love the new school.

This after school not only focuses on homework and other forms of academics, but they also help children on their character building. The curriculum is well balanced, which I truly enjoy. Achiever Institute offers classes like math, writing, drawing, crafts, recess, Spanish, Chinese, drama, and many more. This is important because not only are these children being taught important academic lessons, but they are also able to express their imaginations and creativity in interesting ways within the classes provided by Achiever. What's quite extraordinary is that not only do they put forth energy to ensure homework is finished and class work is being done, but they also genuinely put the time and effort into teaching their students life long lessons. For example, here at Achiever Institute the staff are also concerned with teaching the students politeness, respecting themselves, their fellow classmates, the staff, other people's feelings, their shared spaces, and so much more! What I also really like is that the staff always communicates with the parents. This is key in my opinion because it is so important to not only be completely aware of everything your child is going through, but also so that you, as a parent, are always kept up to date. Lastly, the summer programs offered by Achiever are like no other! Comparable to the school year's curriculum, they too have a great balance of teaching students necessities and having fun. The first few weeks are intriguing courses such as coding classes, science week, cooking week (which is my personal favorite), etc. but the last month or so of Achiever Institute's summer program is what COMPLETELY SETS THEM APART FROM ANY OTHER AFTER SCHOOL!!! Principal Jim and principal Yuni of Achiever put their heart in this after school. You can tell that they do not only treat the kids or the parents nicely, but also the teachers and TA in Achiever. Unlike any of the other after schools, Achiever has really low turn over rate. Teachers, TAs and even drivers all telling me they enjoy working there. The 2 main teachers there, Teacher Feliza and Teacher Cathy, are really caring teachers, they do not only pay attention to the academic progress for the kids there, they even care about their characters growth. They have great observations of each kid there and help them to excel. When our daughter first transitioned to school, she was very shy, but the teachers were so incredibly gentle, thoughtful, and patient -- they really took the time to help her feel safe and comfortably adapt at her own pace, especially since Mandarin and English were not her first languages. It amazes me that now she's able to speak and sing in both Mandarin and English. We love the curriculum and the students learn so much at Little Tree. The teachers genuinely love these kids and it shows in the little details, the communication, and how excited our daughter was to go to school every day. It doesn't feel rushed or overly structured. The balance is just right for this age group. The food situation is also worth mentioning because not every school gets this right. Maple has a no microwave, no fridge policy, which sounds strict at first but it actually encourages parents to send fresh, healthy food. The school also provides healthy snacks. And if you're a working parent who doesn't always have time to prep a lunch, Ms. Radhika launched a fresh hot lunch program. You enroll at the start of the month and your child gets a freshly made hot lunch each day. Another thing Ms. Radhika introduced is a partnership with Amazing Athletes, a dedicated sports program that comes in once a week. The idea is to introduce kids to a variety of sports so they can figure out what they actually enjoy, rather than being pushed into one thing early. It's a great way to get them moving and curious about athletics. The program runs about $80 a month and is totally worth it. On the practical side, parking is never a headache here. There's a dedicated lot with plenty of space, so you're never circling the block or rushing to a street spot at drop-off. He wonders why the children who hurt him remain welcomed with open arms, while he was the one punished for simply standing up for himself. Sunshine meets all my expectations. Sunshine really distinguishes itself with their flexibility! When my sons had afterschool activities at Warm Springs or Leitch Elementary such as basketball practice and games, math contest, or chess class; Mr Jeffrey the transportation manager did not hesitate and made extra trip to pick them up. In addition, when my son needed to attend other extra curriculum class 5 mins drive away from Sunshine, Sunshine didn't hesitate to help. I had never thought an affordable afterschool care place can accommodate these additional service!!! Sunshine is very reliable and really makes things easier for working parents. Not everything was perfect. When my kids started preschool at Sunshine, all of them had a rocky start. All felt sick during first week. It was heartbreaking for me. In hindsight, all toddlers go through this journey of catching germs and building up their immunity when interacting with other children. After few months, they were fine. It started with a school flyer, an information session with Stephan Brooks the coach. The rest is a NorCal championship after a year of hard work and fierce tournaments, from middle school tournaments to high school invitationals held at colleges including Berkeley and Stanford. The success of a student in the debate program depends on personal motivation, passion, dedication and hard work. Equally - if not more - importantly, it takes a coach with full dedication, energy, hardworking, qualification and ability to inspire and motivate students to be the best they can be. I regard highly of Stephan Brooks with these qualities as I observed during the past school year. Kids have had great fun as well as learning a lot from his teaching and coaching. Besides the debate and speech program, they also offer other enrichment programs for academics and youth leaderships, including building houses in Mexico.
