I have been to this college a few times as a speaker. I finally got a chance to write a review. It is a beautiful campus! I was invited to speak about Effective Networking and How to build lasting relationships for 2026 Ohlone Business Summit. Over 50+ students attended and love the enthusiasm of the students wanting to learn. The facility is very clean and neat. I got to visit Bldg 5 - Dining Hall where the summit was held. Such a disappointment experience. Back in fall of 2021 I was taking medical billing class but it was through a third party company which was stupid but okay of course it was a online course it was still during pandemic. The instructor by the name kelly Peterson (or whatever her name was) was very unpleasant unprofessional whenever we asked her a simple question she would get all huffy and puffy and annoyed. Not worth the money I regret wasting my money on that stupid course. Ohlone do a better job with your classes STOP having a third party for courses it's pointless. I do not recommend any course when it comes to medical field take it elsewhere. read more

Ohlone alum with 3 degrees from this institution- overall this is a great place to start if your transitioning from HS or looking for a career change. Ratemyprofessors really comes in clutch when you're registering for your classes. There is this counselor named "Nadia Dadgar" I highly recommend choosing her as your counselor, she will tell you if there is an easier class alternative for your requirement. She also teaches some PD classes which are for credit depending on the course as there are multiple PD classes taught- she is an easy A. However, if science and math are not your strong suite- I'd recommend dual enrollment with Chabot for those classes. A friend of mine did that. If you happen to take STATS choose professor "Jose Rico" he really is an easy A. For any Psychology clases offered by "Meera Bhadra" are amazing and simplified too. read more

My wife just enquired about a class at this college and never actually enrolled. Now, 2 years after that enquiry we receive a random email from them stating we are overdue for the fees payment & have 1 month before they follow up through a collection agency! We don't have any records of enrollment and my wife was working full-time elsewhere during the time they say she attended their classes. Now, they can't even show us proof that she was enrolled actually and want us to prove them she didn't attend any classes causing so much confusion and wasting our time. Is this some kind of scam? read more

So for my 700th Yelp review, I thought why not rate the college I had the pleasure of attending right after high school. I attended Ohlone College while Dr. Gari Browning was the president of the college. Let's be honest, high school was rough, it's rough for everybody. However, moving onto college, you'd think it would get better, not I honestly didn't think it got any better. Not to mention, transferring in two years when I attended, was not possible! Sure, you get the freedom of choosing your own classes and professors, but that wasn't always the case. When I attended, you had to take a placement test for English and Math, and depending on the scores received, Ohlone would place you in certain classes, many of which were not college prep or transferable (aka classes you don't really need, but are forced to take because of a simple test score). People attend community college because they don't feel quite ready to go out into the world yet and experience a 4 year university straight after high school, or for financial issues, to save money. But really, when I attended, you aren't really saving that much money when you are forced to take classes because of one single test score. I understand in some cases it's necessary to take certain low level classes, like math, but for classes like English, I honestly didn't think the low level classes I had to take, made any difference once I qualified for college level English. I'm positive if I was able to take college level English right away, I would have been fine. Moving onto the professors and faculty here at the college, there are some good genuine faculty who care, but then there's also some who don't have a care in the world to see students succeed. There were some truly exceptional faculty and professors who would go above and beyond for their students, and then there are some who simply teach the class and leave to go teach elsewhere, making it really hard to reach them whenever needed, and rarely did those professors have office hours. Honestly, there were some faculty members who shouldn't be teaching for various reasons, but are or were...you really got to do your research and select professors carefully. Use RateMyProfessor and ask around (word of mouth, friends, etc) to see which professors you should be taking and which ones you should be avoiding like the plague. The counseling department front desk staff were often times very rude. In the early stages of my time at Ohlone, it was extremely hard to get a counseling appointment because they would fill up quickly, and the front desk staff were just plain rude and would just simply tell you to "try again next week", but when you do, you'd get the same response. It wasn't until I took a Personal Development class taught by a counselor was I able to consistently get counseling appointments with them specifically. When I attended, the whole campus vibe was really non-existent, and majority of the campus was also starting construction, so most of the classes were in portables down the hill. The food on campus was horrible, you literally only had like one option, which at the time was food from the cafeteria, which was run by Fresh and Natural Cafe. I honestly just didn't get a sense of community here, while I understand that everyone here is mostly trying to get in, get out and transfer, still, I feel like there should be more of a sense of community and school spirit. Things started to change a little bit once a friend of mine told me to apply for a job on campus, and eventually I did. I applied to be a tutor within the Communication Lab, and that was a good learning experience. I enjoyed helping students succeed and getting to know some faculty more because of it, and making some amazing friendships with other tutors and students I had the pleasure of helping. Huge shout-out to the Communication Department and the amazing faculty within it and to Mr. Richard Cominos of the Administration of Justice department for being absolutely amazing!! I feel like as I was getting closer and closer to transferring, the experience started feeling better, knowing the fact that all these years at Community College were finally starting to pay off. So, all in all, there are benefits of attending a Community College, but I expected more from Ohlone College, especially being one of the top 10 Community Colleges. One last thing, when you do eventually transfer, you will have a much, much better experience, I sure did! :) read more

A proud Class of 2022 alum from a city other than Fremont Despite negative reviews, I love everything about Ohlone College. I lived in a city other than Fremont, so l often used public transportation. Public transportation was very reliable and easy to get to Ohlone from Fremont BART. Professors there were very supportive and kind. Because of them, I noticed that I had grown tremendously, not only as a Deaf student, but as well as an individual. I had awesome interpreters and remarkable academic counselor. I'd like to express my gratitude to Ohlone College for everything, as I embark onto my next journey at another university. I would also want to acknowledge this college for my personal growth as someone who wasn't exceptionally academic. Took me four years to graduate, but that's just because I didn't know what I wanted to do when I started at Ohlone right after high school (and eventually, COVID-19 pandemic happened). Now that I transferred, I can say that my time at Ohlone College was absolutely worth it. I may be a little or a lot bias. I have been a student off and on since I began here in the Fall of 1996. It is a very good school. Most of the teachers that I have had are wonderful and very friendly. They care about each of the students. I love all of the resources that are available. Love that they are redoing the whole entire campus. Much more modern. read more

As of the time I am writing this review, I am a student who has spent 3 and a half years at Ohlone. This is my last semester at here as I plan to spend a cross semester at Berkeley before I transfer colleges. The reason I chose to attend to college was only because of the very high transfer rates and is one of the top community colleges of CA. The College has two campuses and this is the main one. A lot of room to walk around. If you pick your professors carefully, you can succeed. Come to class, do the work, and obtain the grade. What I like the most of Ohlone is how most of the students are rushing to transfer out. There is no one here who wants to stay longer than usual. A lot of people are full time students who went to transfer out as soon as possible. The Counselors are the best people to turn to in times of need. If you ask the right questions, from transferring to classes, you will get the right answers. Parking is not an issue at all, the food offered here is decent as it is nothing special. The price for classes are decent and I recommend renting all books as it saves money. There is nothing wrong with attending a community college, this is the chance for people to fix the wrongs they had in High School. At this moment the campus is expanding with new buildings to be finished by next year. I wish I could be around to witness the finish, as this college is only getting better over the years. read more

I went to see my daughter do in ASL project. It was very interesting to watch her sign from where she's coming from in high school. She is amazing it was so beautiful. Was also nice watch the other students sign. And I wish I could just grasp SL. I tried I've tried I've tried it's just not a strong I just I'm not there. But I'm so proud of her learning ASL so she can be an interpreter. I'm proud of this school. I am proud of Sherry her one of her instructors so awesome I'm sorry I met a gentleman instructor and he was awesome as well. And I know she'll do well and do big things so proud of my baby all right dropping her off. Salut! Comment ça va? Ça va bien ici à Ohlone. Thanks to Ohlone College, I am learning some French in preparation for our upcoming trip to France! I was looking at other language schools, but they were all very expensive. I hoped that Ohlone would offer French in the evening, and voila, here I am learning survival French just in time for our trip. This is not my first class at Ohlone. I have taken classes here before in order to add to my professional development units at work. In my line of work, the more semester units you have past your BA, the higher you go up the salary scale. One of the classes I took here was an online Women's Literature course with A. Kuhn and it was a wonderful class. Though it was online, the message boards made it possible to interact with other students and discuss the text. Prof. Kuhn was great about giving feedback and was kind enough to write a letter of recommendation for me when I was applying for a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. I'm sure her letter was instrumental in my success in securing the grant! My French 101A class is also wonderful. Our class is small and the professor teaches the entire time in French. The class meets twice a week for about 5 hours, so I am learning a lot. We also have a textbook online that has a lot of audio and written exercises to help us practice. I work full time, so I am very busy these days because of the class, but the sacrifice is worth it! My class is in the portables due to construction on campus, but there is a cafe a few doors down where you can grab some food and coffee, and study a bit before class starts. Free wi-fi is also available. And if you're lucky enough to have a class that starts around sunset like I do, the view of the Bay Area from campus is spectacular! There is no free parking on campus. You can buy a daily permit for $2 each or save some money by buying a semester permit for $35. The student parking lot is below the college, so yes, you will have to climb up the hill if you have classes way up there. Hey, we all need exercise! Applying to the college was easy. I filled out an online application in early December, enrolled in a class, paid my fees, purchased my textbook online and next thing I knew, it was January and spring semester has started. The fees here per unit are way less than the fees I've paid at UC Extension and Stanford Continuing Studies. Community Colleges are definitely an affordable option, so take advantage of them! read more

Last year, for a Speech Tournament I got to visit Ohlone College. I know me, participating in something...never! But I got an automatic A on my final exam and 1 credit of classwork for going for 5 hours and skipping out early. The first thing to notice and note about Ohlone is THERE ARE STAIRS EVERYWHERE!!! You have to walk up 5 sets of huge steps just to get to the "quad" type area. Then there are stairs to the classrooms, and stairs to get to the upper levels of classrooms. And lets not forget the stairs to the cafeteria. I felt like the campus was on a rock face hill and I was scaling the mountain for my A. I was also from DVC, who's claim to fame is not only grade switching but very bad food. There's bones in the chicken salad, the noodle salad has been known to take people out, and your best bet for real food is ice cream. Well at Ohlone, the food was actually pretty good. They have a buffet style system which is a lot like the one's you see at the tech-y places like Yahoo. There were a lot of choices too. I gotta say. I probably wouldn't go here just because of the stairs alone, but if the stair master is your thing, heck, this is the place for you. read more

Ohlone is a good school to complete your general education at. It is my second semester at this school and what you see is pretty much what you get. Most teachers are pretty friendly and glad to help you when in need, the rest of the faculty staff is a joke! Admissions is closed half of the time and just send you to counciling so that they do not have to deal with you themselves. admissions, counciling, financial aid all closes for a couple of hours during the day. Perhaps it is due to budget cuts but it is very inconvenient driving from one campus to the next to find out, you have an hour to kill because they do not have shift they simply all go to lunch. I hope ohlone can manage this better. on a positive note the view is breath taking ! Updated review! After being at this school for two years i finally received priority registration! I quickly signed up for my summer and fall classes just to find out that four days later i would be dropped from all my registered classes! I was outraged when i found out my place had been given to the next person on the wait list. Lucky i was able to find a couple of classes that i still needed which i ended up signing for. I also signed up for a payment plan to pay for my classes and once again i was dropped because i hadn't paid within 5 days. Whats the point of the payment plan! Now i am all out of luck because summer and fall classes are full.whats the point of having priority registration if they are simply going to drop you. My first interaction with the admissions and counseling office was pretty good. Helpful staff. I had a problem registering for a call. The counseling office helped resolve it immediately. The only problem was that the building had no air conditioning. With the temperature in the late 80s, it was extremely uncomfortable. After waiting in the hall for 30 mins and a 10 min talk to the counselor, I came out feeling sick. I am now recuperating with the AC on blast! read more

The Newark one is smaller and more organized, especially with the construction that seems to be taking a while to complete. I understand it's a big project, but we need to walk around for our classes and it's already a big campus! Other than the old buildings, that I'm sure that's why they're construction new buildings, it's a good college. Also -50 stars for the Admissions office ladies/ people. They were no help to me when I tried to ask them for help on how to add a class via add code. If I knew how, I wouldn't have bothered your job of sitting in the office doing nothing! :) read more

Ohlone is great compared to Mission or Chabot College. Apparently there is a cemetery right behind Chabot. Me and my friend made joke about people failing classes there and will get buried if they fail (sad to say that the cemetery was freaking fill-up with gravestones). The stairs at Ohlone are not truly that bad as people say they are, if you do go here, eventually you will find short cuts. If you are coming here for the education, go to De Anza and work your ass off but you would get a higher chance of getting into schools like USC, but Ohlone college is the next best thing in the bay area. Really important to check up with www.RateMyProfessor.com, and talk to some people who have taken the class because they probably know the tips of how to get by with an A but learn too. It is a good thing that you want to learn but staying competitive to get into the school you want is another thing. We have some amazing professors here at Ohlone, for example there is a professor who also teaches at UC Berkeley in the biology/science department (however, I heard it was extremely hard as hell). If you are a business major like I am, I think you would the learning experience to be satisfactory. Not to high as if you are learning at a university but not too low as if you are attending a high school class where the professor only baby sits you. Check out the math lab if you attend! You would find all your friends and collages in there! read more

The counseling department is terrible. They don't care about their students or respect their time. I had an appointment that I scheduled a couple weeks in advance and 45 minutes before my meeting I received a voicemail that it was canceled. I carved out time from my work schedule for nothing. When I called the counceling office to see if they can get me in the next day well, the phone rang and rang for a day in a half during buisness hours. When they did answer, I was told it would be a week before getting another appointment. Not fair! The woman sounds miserable to be there and said, I can offer you a drop in 10 minute appointment. I honestly didn't want to review my college because I don't think I could put everything that I have to say into 1 review. Ohlone college has 2 campuses one in Fremont and 10-15 minutes away is the Newark campus. I currently only take classes at the Newark campus because Ohlone has always had construction and is a nightmare to walk around. I always felt like I was taking a hike to go to class at the Fremont campus and the instructors had all been there so long they could care less about helping the students and updating their teaching methods a little. Aside from the struggles with walking around campus (which if you are in a wheelchair or injured I don't know how easily you could get around with the construction in the dead center of the Fremont campus in spring of 2016. The Newark campus is a new campus with a large parking lot and solar panels everywhere. This campus takes pride in having so much technology around. The only thing I wish it had was a campus bookstore and that the cafeteria would be open for longer hours on Fridays. I feel like this campus has more potential because it is on a large piece of land and has more room to expand on the existing area and to the left. Behind the field parking lot is a train which runs through Fremont as well, I believe it is just a cargo train though not Bart or ace. If I had to chose I would prefer to go to the Newark campus over the Fremont campus for both easy parking, less walking and how easy it is to get around Newark. read more

For $26 a semester, I hardly have any reason to complain. This place, although small, comes with a bunch of exercise bikes, 5 ellipticals, a whole lot of machines, some free weights, medicine balls and bosus (the latter two are generally in the office). It's kept clean and they have disinfectant sprays on almost every other machine, and there are mats to stretch on, plus posters on the wall for tips on maintaining good form, and different exercises you can do to work on different muscle groups. I've been horribly spoiled by the ARC, but this is what I really miss: -squat rack -pull up bar -treadmill -while I'm being greedy, I kinda wish I could plug my ipod into the ellipticals, but they generally play pretty nice music I'm enrolled in the strength training & cardio class right now; it was supposed to be my "gym membership" since I was trying to save money and all that good stuff. But as luck would have it (they probably caught on), they decided to add structure to the course, so I actually have to follow a specific workout if I want an A. :[ It's still definitely a steal in terms of the pricing, but because I miss the above and I miss the freedom, I'm probably joining Fitness 19 next year. read more

The visit to Ohlone College was to to enjoy a theater show with my kid's school. We watched the Frog Prince which was pretty entertaining. The kids and I had a good time watching the show. There seems to be a bit of construction at the school so we had to park way down toward the entrance/bottom and walk all the way up toward the theater. read more

I think I've spent most of my time here sleeping in the library. I remember spending my hours sitting in the upstairs walkway next to the outlet (next to the deaf studies room); the librarians would be infuriated by me for blocking their way, but the student workers found it humorous. I remember the baseball player who sat on the other side of the room and kept stepping over me, instead of walking around me (the baseball players here are a bit on the cocky side).. I remember all of the strange men who have tried to pick me up, the ones who were about as stalkerish as they could be because I was bad at saying "no". I remember the rotating workers in the cafeteria... The awesome Italian guy, the deaf guy, bitchy Burmese cashier (who always overcharged and yelled at me), nice Burmese cashier (who always undercharged me). I remember the days when the food quality was better, and I remember starting to frequent Cheese Taster Delicatessen, Subway, Starbucks, and Mission Burger when it wasn't. I remember having to walk a mile downhill just to grab lunch, and then sweating bullets walking up what seems like "The Stairmaster School". I remember all the bad drivers that I almost got hit by and giggling at all the ones who got citations because they didn't have parking permits. I remember when Hyman Hall had twice as many computers upstairs, before the days of the recession... I remember walking all the way to Hyman Hall from the library just so I could use (clean) bathrooms. I remember the 50 heart attacks that struck me each time my iPhone hopped out of my back pocket and ricocheted off the bottom of the toilet. I remember all the great guest speakers I got to see, courtesy of Ohlone's Psychology Club. I remember reading the article on tarantula nests in "The Monitor", and seeing one for the very first time (only to find out that they are uncommon). I remember the arrogant professor that gave me a 0 on the online quiz because I didn't have Microsoft Office. I remember falling in love with psychology when after feeling my professor's passion and humor, delivered every day during his lectures. But, I feel bad for my class of '07 friends who are still waiting on certain classes so they can finally transfer out of this place. They've been here for way too long. read more

The following is a column I wrote about Ohone in an issue of the school newspaper, the Ohlone Monitor, before transferring to U.C. Berkeley. It pretty well sums up my thoughts on the school even though it is a couple of years latter and I have graduated from Cal. "This is my last column, as I am transferring to Berkeley next semester, so this is my last chance to publicly say what I think about Ohlone. When I was a child, my parents sent me to the Ohlone for Kids summer program. I don't recall much from back then, just vague memories of Lego robots, losing in chess class and the water fountains. The fountains were amazing because they were big, I was small, the water was sparkly and I was easily amused. Despite this favorable first impression, by the time I got to high school I had a rather negative view of the college. As an Asian kid at an intensely academic school (Mission San Jose High School), my attitude was that if you didn't go on to a private university or a highly ranked U.C., you were a failure and, by extension, Ohlone was a school for failures because it took all the leftovers.This attitude persisted despite my own rather pitiful academic performance. From the lofty hight of a 1.8 GPA I continued to regard Ohlone as a last chance school for losers. If I knew then what I know now, I probably would have left Mission freshman year to take classes at Ohlone. This years valedictorian effectively did this and is going on to U.C. Berkeley at the young age of 18. Unfortunately, I only dropped out at the start of my senior year, realizing that I was heading to community college one way or another with that GPA of mine. At first, Ohlone was pretty disappointing. The school's paint job was faded, the fountains didn't work and I made the same mistakes in my first semester that I made in high school. That last part was my fault but it still didn't make me feel particularly confident in the institution. However, once I noticed that there was no busy work, that I could study topics that actually interested me and that I didn't need a 4.5 GPA to get into a good school anymore, something clicked. Going to school actually became something pleasurable, particularly on days when I could wake up at noon or later and be on time to my favorite classes with my favorite instructors. If you listen to the school officials talk, they often describe Ohlone as a 'learning college.' Silly and redundant, but it really makes sense. I didn't learn much in high school and neither did most of my friends, but, in the open and enlightened college setting at Ohlone, one can really absorb knowledge and develop analytical skills. Being able to transfer to a good school after this is also a great bonus for an ex-Mission student like myself. There is no way I can look at Ohlone badly anymore. Any institution that can get a dropout like me into U.C. Berkeley should be considered amazing. Now that the fountains work and the walls are being repainted, the school is damn near perfect in my eyes. All Ohlone needs now are escalators and maybe a transfer agreement with Stanford or CalTech. Oh, and there used to be arcade machines in the cafeteria when I was a kid. Bring those back!" Now that I have finished at Berkeley, I have to say that Ohlone was just as much of a formative experience as Cal was. If you want to spend a couple of years of college at a smaller, cheaper school with great faculty and happen to live in Fremont, Ohlone is a great option. The minus one star is because of the facilities (I've been here just about every summer since junior high, and not much has changed). Not a huge deal, but can be a little depressing when you first get here. Just finished my last semester here and I'll be heading off to college in the fall, so I thought I'd write a review for the school I've been attending for the past two years. Experience-wise, it's really what you make of it. When I first got here, I felt pretty bad. For me, this has been the college that parents use to threaten their children that they'll end up at if they don't do well in school, and going here seems to make parents avoid talking about you in conversations (I'm onto you mom). This is probably only because I went to Mission San Jose High School though, where the emphasis is strongly put on academics (and if you're not good at academics [by "good" I mean you don't have above a 3.8+/2200+ SAT score], you're basically SOL unless you've got some amazingly unique extra curriculars because of the competition). Just brace yourself for the social stigma in the asian parent world, and learn to ignore it. I won't go too much into it, but really it's not so bad. In the end you save about two years worth of money for the same degree that your friends are paying double for, I feel like you'll learn to value education more since you had to work an extra two years to get to where you wanted to go. Things to know: -Buy your parking permit early, and always have it on. The police here have nothing to do but give tickets, they pretty much check every hour. -Look up your books, buy them online. If you happen to need a loose-leaf book, ask your professor if you can buy the previous/regular edition. You can't sell a loose leaf book. -Try not to take a class where all the books are by the professor, because you won't be able to sell the books online/if the professor decides to publish a new edition, well you're stuck with books that are pretty much useless. -Parking is horrendous around 9am-11:30am. If you're someone that doesn't arrive early, just park in the D/E lot and walk up, it'll be faster than driving around wasting gas waiting for someone to leave. -If you're trying to get out, SEE A COUNSELOR OFTEN. There are some bad counselors here that will give you shitty/faulty information. If anyone tries to make you stay for more than two years (and you're not a bio/engineering major), run. You make these a week in advance so plan accordingly. Utilize the transfer center (Building 7) -For me, GE classes were the worst. People will try to use you (get your e-mail then never come to class..asking you what "we did in class today"). Take 'em over the summer/know that your other classes will be better. -Online classes are a great option if you're able to stay on top of things. -READ the ratings on ratemyprofessor.com, don't just go for the smiley face. -If you're able to get to the other campus, I recommend taking classes there as well: http://www.yelp.com/biz/ohlone-college-newark-center-newark Hopefully these things will help you if you're coming here from high school, had I known some of these things earlier, I would've had a much better experience (and a higher GPA). So, 2 stars. I'm not trying to hate, I just really have experienced better. Like at Mission College where they take good care of you. I have taken 3 classes at Ohlone. I fulfilled my art and history requirements for my BSN here. Introduction to Western Classical Music and European Civilization were both very boring and very easy. Both were online, which I loved and I was able to do them in my own time. Ohlone has a plethora of online courses (mainly cores that count for transfer credit). I also took an Introduction to Pilates class at Newark Ohlone. Yeah, it sucked getting up at 7:30am every morning of the summer of '08 to go and do yoga poses, but damn, did I look good that summer. Ohlone got Ineke, an instructor from Mindful Movement, to come and teach us and she was fabulous! Now, my problem with Ohlone lies in it's advising department. I wanted to take some business classes and I needed to waive some prereqs. I go in there looking for some solid advising. I come out with not a clue as to what's going on. The "advisor" tells me I need to take a placement exam. So I go through the motions and waste an afternoon taking this placement exam. The results were startling. Apparently I'm smart enough to get through 4 years of nursing school, but not smart enough to test out of Algebra 2, a course I took when I was 14. So basically, this exam is rigged. They tell everyone that they placed into Algebra 2 so that you cannot waive their classes, must enroll and pay for classes that you do not actually need. If taking classes you don't need sounds like fun to you, go to Ohlone. If not, head on down to Mission College where they waive prereqs that you've already taken. Oh and to everyone who complains about the stairs: don't be a pussy! Come to USF's Lone Mountain and I'll show you stairs! read more

A community college which has the feeling of a university. I came here several years ago and earned an AA degree. It was fun walking up the tree lined walkway from the street to the classrooms but during the summer it was "Hot". The teachers I had were really passionate, and helpful, when I attended. Still remember Ms. Christine Bolt, of the business department, fondly, because she was so such an excellent instructor. However, other instructors has also been great here. Overall, it was a great college experience. I would recommend Ohlone for the first 2 years of college because you will save lots of money for tuition - $20 a unit. Also, it has great transfer rates to the university. Be smart do the lower division stuff at the local college. I just wished I had attended Ohlone when I first started my higher education "Journey". - I could have used such a different perspective compared to my first college. Removing one star for the hill but it was worth the hike every afternoon for the AA degree, the great workout and to be an Ohlone alumni. read more

Ohlone College is the best JC i've seen for it being a JC. It's in a nice area in Fremont and overlooks the whole city. It's great to just chill in the upper level parking lot after a final or if you're ever stressed; this place is great and deserves 6 stars for setting! The school has good curriculum and all my instructors have good teaching methods. I screwed up big time in college, but I know that each of my instructors did a sufficient job performing their duties. The facilities on campus are adequate, not too great but definitely not on the bad side. Perhaps all the money earned by Ohlone was invested in the Newark campus, but the main campus is still cool. They should add more parking spaces in the upper level (just a personal opinion) so that more students can have a nice view and will be encouraged to study in a more relaxed environment. Oh, I forgot to mention the beautiful pond in the back of campus right behind the cafeteria. The pond has huge ass koi fish in it; it's pretty cool. I love this campus mainly for the setting, and if I had to choose between JCs again, Ohlone would definitely be the one. read more

My son is a in coming freshman from high school. Both my son and had some questions about his classes. We went to the registration window and the lady that helped us was extremely rude. She gave us no help and yelled at us. Then we went to the counseling department and the service my son received was worse. Where are the manners of staff who work at this college. Students deserve and have the right to good customer service. When I went to freshman days everyone was so nice but when I went to the actual campus it was the complete opposite. Horrible customer service. You are there to help students and not yell at them. read more

Went here before transferring to UCB. I have BIG Ohlone pride! UCSF= University of California, Southern Fremont. Yeah~ Scenery is so pretty out of all the other JCs in the bay area. Beautiful koi pond to have your lunch next to in the back of the cafeteria. Theres also koi ponds when you walk up to the administration building. Definately not a ghetto JC. Some of the coolest and best professors! Contrary to popular beliefs about community colleges, Ohlone science classes are not easy and some of the professors I had here could out-teach some of the Berk professors I've had. Very caring too. You do have to climb a bil-gillion stairs to get to your classes but at least it will keep you in shape. The new computer lab rocks and the tutors are wonderful. read more

As if Ohlone College wasn't a cardio campus enough, their fitness center is a nice addition to its facility! Although it is a little small, it has all the basic necessities: spinning bikes, ellipticals, strength training machines, free weights.. and other equipment like yoga balls, medicine balls & bosus! I like how they really try to keep all the equipment sanitary by having disinfectant spray bottles and towels located on every other machine. It's super affordable-- since it is based on a college campus, it is only $20/ unit. (You could technically sign up for .5 unit! $10!) Make sure you put yourself on the list for "Cardio & Strength Training" and you've got your gym membership covered for 4 months (or however long the semester lasts). Don't worry, it's not a real class, and you can go whenever you like even if it gives you a time frame when you sign up.. Cool incentive to working out x amount of hours earns you an A! There's always someone there that is available if you need assistance on your work out plan, but you have to take the initiative to ask for help. Only sucky thing is that the gym hours are limited.. Sundays and Holidays are closed & they aren't open later than 7 pm. =( But hey, this saves so much money, and if you're a local, it's not bad! ---- Edit: It's now: $26/unit read more

I have never been ashamed to say that I went to Ohlone College, where I was able to triple major, earn two Associates Degrees, work as a Student Ambassador and an intern for the Ohlone College Foundation, and be VP of both Alpha Gamma Sigma Honor Society and Circle K International. Oh, and sing in a combo jazz/rock band, as well as the chamber chorus. I took music, science, and math classes and loved my teachers. They were attentive, cared about their students, and were always open to questions and concerns. There is a large range of students at Ohlone - I took classes that were geared towards people who were going to transfer to 4 year colleges, and I found those students to be motivated and hard-working. The administration and board of directors are so-so. Since I worked behind the scenes as a student ambassador, I was close with my counselor and could get her to pull strings for me (and a couple of friends). Otherwise, there's a lot of annoying red tape involved in admissions, registering, and advising. I came to Ohlone right out of high school and made the most of my experience. I have since returned after getting my Bachelors to take Chinese school on the weekend with my husband, who is always on a quest to impress my parents! Ohlone treated me very well. Considering that I won 2 awards, a merit scholarship, and transferred to UC Berkeley - I don't think I did too badly for myself! read more

I went to the Theater here on Friday to see Philip Zimbardo who did a speech on the Lucifer effect and the difference between good and evil. The theater itself was really clean and had great sound, lighting, and seating. I was very impressed for a college theater. The speech itself was amazing, really interesting topics as well as a really well made PowerPoint presentation to accompany. Phillip arrived late, but he still drew a packed theater, and no one left. Phillip was filled with jokes and was an absolute treat to see. Thank you Ohlone, Phillip, and my mom for the tickets. read more

Okay, where do I start? After coming to Ohlone College after having a VEERY bad experience at the 4-year Cogswell Polytechnical College in Sunnyvale, it's a breath of fresh air. This school has very strong teachers, a diverse community{faculty and student-wise}...and counselors who know what they're talking about....and will get to the bottom of your question{s}, even if they can't answer you right away. You're pushed to learn, and to succeed... Yeah, those steps to climb to Bldg 1 are a bit of a pain...but, hey, my anticipation to my day at Ohlone is worth it. I may add more to my review in the future, but I really like Ohlone College, and I hope to give back it once I hit my own success.... Note: Another reviewer dubbed Ohlone UCSF {University of California, Southern Fremont}...and I can understand why. This school has some really strong programs, teachers, and students... --Edit: 9/7/2008-- As an African-American who has an interest in the Asian culture (and the girls) Ohlone is pretty cool in that aspect as well. I am a member of APASA (Asian Pacific American Student Association), International Club (even though I'm not an International Student), and Chinese Student Club (which is in the process of getting a new president, as the last one is now attending UC Berkeley). Indeed, I've met some interesting and cool people through these clubs; many people I can call friends. Furthermore, my five stars are supported by the fact that many individuals (particularly those in EOPS and fellow students) have helped me in times of need; as balancing "life" and school is difficult. Ohlone college is great, I have attended classes before going off to a 4 year college, and am attending classes after I have graduated. This review is STRICTLY for the Drop in session counseling office. I'll give credit since the counselor was extremely nice and she helped me get my prerequisites cleared to take a class for the fall ASAP. However, I have to deduct stars for the receptionist's attitude at the counseling office. The receptionist was flat out rude to me. She just miserably asked what do you want, like as if I interrupted her or something. She seemed annoyed the entire time I was there to arrange a drop in session. She had the attitude as if she wanted me to hurry up, so she could go back to 'whatever' she was doing. I thought, sheesh lady, if you really don't like your job, find something else to do. I'm not expecting the treatment that comes out of a hotel receptionist at the Bellagio or some 5 star hotel, all I'm just expecting is just some respect. This receptionist did not have any. All in all, great counselor for the drop in session, got my prerequisites cleared ASAP. However, the lady at the counter definitely needs to learn how to be courteous to students. read more
