John Murphy is a fantastic agent, and provides stellar service to his customers. Office staff always responded right away and was always easy to contact, whether it be by phone, email, or text. Once I was out of state trying to get a car released from impound but needed insurance on the vehicle to do so. This was 5:00 pm on a Friday afternoon!! I called John Murphys's office and within 10 minutes, they were faxing me proof of insurance on that vehicle at the impound lot!! Truly amazing!! Not pushy or always trying to sell you more coverage. Rates were always reasonable, even after my multiple at-fault accidents. We had a good 5 year run but unfortunately, all good things must end eventually. I should have switched insurance agencies many years ago, but I stayed with this agency after it was sold to my last insurance agency, because it is such a hassle to change insurance. Now that I have switched both my car and home insurance to a different agency, I'm kicking myself for not taking my business elsewhere sooner. Because every time I had to do any kind of transaction with John Murphy Allstate, it didn't go smoothly. The customer service was just not good. Mistakes were made, calls weren't returned, questions weren't answered in a way that helped me understand options--even making payments on the Allstate website was always much more difficult than it should have been. I also found out when I switched car insurance, that my current insurance wouldn't have covered me if an uninsured motorist had hit me. Of course, it's partially my own fault that I didn't realize this, but I certainly wasn't told by anyone at Allstate that my insurance was lacking an important feature. Thank goodness I wasn't in any accidents while covered by Allstate. When I refinanced my house and had to get a new policy, it was again a huge hassle, with John Murphy arguing with my mortgage person over whether or not it should be a townhouse or condo policy. Like really arguing, with everyone angry. Over something that should have been completely settled when I originally bought the house. In hindsight, I should have switched that time 10 years ago when one of his employees accidentally sent an email complaining about me to *me* instead of his supervisor (John) who then answered with a condescending email about me to *me.* Sure, anyone can make that mistake. But the mistakes and incidences piled up over the years and I wish I had changed much, much sooner. read more

Horrible experience last year in trying to replace my homeowners insurance, his assistant Patrick made numerous statements and sent numerous emails about "all is well" and then went radio silence. Failed to respond to repeated emails and voicemails, and then I was notified by mail that my home insurance coverage was declined. I had to pay a bill of almost $300 for their insurance coverage while my house was covered by the other insurance company. So I paid double coverage for nothing. I was told I could take them to small claims court but that it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Their customer service rating is a zero to me. Just beware of this agency. read more

Look Elsewhere for insurance! I received a cold call from this company today. Most troubling was the fact that it came to a private, unlisted cell phone number, yet the caller knew my name. I have no idea how he got this information. This number is listed on the state and federal "do not call" lists, so cold calling this number is in fact a criminal act. The caller was rude and unprofessional. These are horrible business practices, and I strongly suggest looking elsewhere for your insurance needs. read more

Absolutely love the customer service I receive at John Murphy's Allstate Agency! Wouldn't go anywhere else. Despite taking care of the normal insurance needs, like policy changes and taking my payments efficiently, they also spend extra time looking into my policies for me and I receive a call once a year with extra ways I can save money. Worst experience with an insurance company I've ever had. The employees could really use some phone etiquette training, the agent at the office could try to be a little less rude and uncaring then I'd consider returning to Allstate. They've ignored, dropped and dismissed my calls, misquoted amounts, charged my account early for autopay and blew off appointments.
