When I went to Capital as a newcomer to the state, to obtain a Progressive auto policy, the agent (not Briana) informed me that she didn't like the influx of Californians, who, she said, were rude drivers and were causing traffic problems. I had just informed her that I was a California transplant. Great PR, would you say?
She never told me that it was NV law to prove one's residency to the ins. co., simply said that I needed to bring by proof at some point. So I forgot all about it. Then Briana calls and leaves a message on my ans. machine to bring by proof of residency. She calls again when I was home, and when I ask 'what proof', she says, "Oh, a W2 form, a paycheck stub . . . " "I'm retired," I inform her, which she should have been aware of, given my age. Had she even looked at my age? I totally doubt it. "Then a Social Security stub," she puts in, too 'out there' to think that we have the SS deposited in our accounts, we seniors. Did she ever say, "a copy of your phone bill, would do." NO. I felt like I was dealing with an airhead, and older people don't suffer fools gladly. I became testy. She informed me that if I didn't comply my policy would be canceled.
I called the insurance company's head office, spoke to a gentleman who explained that it was NV law and all I needed to do is provide a copy of my phone bill, say, and a photo-copy of my driver license. Here's the FAX number, he offered. Problem solved.
Capital on Kietzke is utterly unprofessional. I'll be dealing directly with the insurance company in the future. I live in Reno now and intend to stay, just for the record.
