I visited: Gainesville, Jacksonville, and Tallahassee, but I could not find any dresses that were close to what I was looking for. Finally, a sales consultant informed me that my taste was a couple years ahead of the local trends and that I'd have to go to a major metropolitan area and pay an arm and a leg if I wanted to find what I was looking for. Frustrated and quite frankly, pretty bummed out, I thankfully remembered Jacquelyn Brooks Designs. I contacted her, sent photos and asked if she could design something similar for me. The dress was absolutely perfect, greatly exceeded my expectations and fit within my budget. Jacquelyn really saved the day and I really am thankful that she could work with me on such a special occasion. They carry a huge range of sizes *in the store!!* that you can usually only find online, with bands from 28 to 46 and cups A through L. Schedule a same-day appointment and you will be sized by an employee that knows bras like the back of their hand. Even if you've been professionally fitted before, this will still be better--I was previously a loyal customer of Soma because they were the closest store that carried large cup sizes in a small band size, but found out today that I am in fact two band sizes smaller than I thought. I received individual attention and left feeling taken care of and comfortable that my purchase was worth every dollar I spent. Every time I pointed out that an otherwise perfect fit rubbed in one place or dug in at another, I was handed another option to try on and the problem was solved. My fitter made up a customer profile for me, with notes on what size I was in each brand and style, and even set up a wishlist in my account of the items that I couldn't afford today but will definitely be coming back for. I also appreciated that I was not upsold in any way--I received a full hour of individual attention (YMMV on busier days) and was not pressured to buy anything more than the one bra I left with, except for a gentle suggestion to buy a bottle of budget-friendly lingerie soap to extend the life of my bra. In addition to regular bras, Lion's Lair also carries sports bras and bikini tops in an equally broad size range, alongside men's & women's underwear, swimwear, and an assortment of charming gifts. Everything appeared new and clean, both inside and out. It is located off of SR 45, and has a sizable, private parking lot that is easy to get in and out of. When we stopped, it was not too crowded but there were some others shopping around. It was a Thursday in July, around mid-morning. This store is huge! They have an incredible selection of boots and various western wear brands for men, women, and children. You could definitely spend an hour or two in here just looking around at all of the different shirts, jackets, pants, accessories, and shoes that are available. There were a lot of brands that are popular for sale - Columbia, Wrangler, Local Boy, Judy Blue, Stanley, and so many more. We ended up purchasing a few shirts, and I thought the prices were fair here. It seemed like they run various specials and sales, as well as having a healthy sale/clearance section. The staff were all friendly, and they had several people working and active on the floor. They were willing to help with anything and answer questions as asked. I would recommend giving this place a stop if you find yourself in the area. Selection is great, and they have some extended sizing on items as well. You really can shop for the entire family here. She didn't even bother to recognize my existence even though she wasn't doing anything else. I had made my purchase and needed service. She doesn't do service. The IDC in Gainesville Florida is located in a new shopping center that assesses a 5% special tax on all sales. 5% on several thousand dollars makes their goods overpriced compared with everyone else in town. I like Cato. They're not cutting-edge or uber-hip--most people don't even seem to realize that…read morethey exist. They don't sell designer clothes. They're trendy ... sorta. What they lack in fashion progression, though, they make up by having solid separates that can really pull an outfit together. Take, for example, one of my Christmas presents, exhibit A that fradulently calls itself a "jegging" but is really just denim-colored stretch pants with a rubber waistband that will simultaneously give me a circular rash and Mom Butt. I needed longer tops to cover up in the back. The stores in the mall let me down. I wasn't sure I'd be able to wear the pants in public, but voila, Cato to the rescue with a long, cowl-neck top, and a gorgeous gray sweater coverall! $42 for the pair, which is less than single items I saw elsewhere. The biggest complaint I have about this store is that the items can be pretty inconsistent--you can go from stuff that's fairly on trend one season to very odd selections in the next--and that the items on the mannequins are all severely clamped to give them an "hourglass" appearance. This can be pretty aggravating when you latch onto a dress that seemingly looks perfect, only to find that it's cut more like a postal mailing carton than a silhouette.

While most people who need to know about it probably already do, I am reviewing Arabesque here because it's a fine little store run by a very charming lady who obviously cares very much about dance in our town. Expectedly, most of the stock is dancewear and shoes geared towards girls and young women because that's the lion's share of who buys dancewear in Gainesville and who takes dance lessons. However, both UF and Santa Fe have good dance programs and there's a number of men and women therefore into dance--to say nothing of the professional dance and theatre activities going on in town. What really makes Arabesque is the owner: she's a sweet, charming, woman very interested in the business she runs. I went in looking for a rather specialized article of clothing that she didn't have (a mesh top) and she made every effort to try to track down something to suit my needs. I finally found just the thing by American Apparel, but her willingness to help and friendly approach will bring me back to her store should I ever have need to buy anything they might sell.
