First, I wouldn't describe Mogollon as even a town. It's very small. Second, there are a few inhabitants so the main street is quite a cozy thoroughfare. I can imagine sitting in a chair for hours in this canyon setting. There's a museum, an inn, an eclectic store selling a mix of t-shirts, art, geodes, etc., and there's The Purple Onion. All may be closed depending on the day and the season. Fortunately, The Purple Onion was open. It seems to be known for its lunch fare of burgers and such but I settled for a breakfast of scrambled eggs, toast, hash browns, coffee, and a milkshake. The food was okay but the coffee and milkshake were both very good. If you're on the main highway and you see the sign pointing to Mogollon, take it. Even if the businesses are closed that day, the drive there and back is worth it. If The Purple Onion is open, get a milkshake. You won't be disappointed.

I was visiting my Dad for a few days and he says; why don't we head over to "Golden Girls" for breakfast. What I figured was to be a simple omelet with croissant and coffee turned out to be a culinary wake up... literally... like better than any of the 32 countries I've eaten in over the last 5 years. So later on when Dad asked what I'd like for dinner, I questioned kinda naively... "Hey Dad, does that Golden Girls Cafe place do dinner???" Man, I wanted more of the good stuff! Dessert was ridiculously delicious.. a home made Strawberry Pie that Martha Stewart would be jealous of, fresh Whipped Cream and piping hot coffee. (yes, there were several other equally yummy options) So, the prices... uncommonly reasonable and the service was exceptional, literally like stepping back in time... Seriously friendly, genuine and made you wanna come back. I usually opt for Normas when I come to visit Glenwood, but I've gotta be honest, Golden Girls is my new Go-To hands down!! He quickly seemed overwhelmed by the volume of customer orders (which didn't seem like that many). He kept asking people what their order had been and losing track of what he was doing. After a long wait, the espresso shot in my cappuccino was burnt, and it tasted very bitter. I ended up drinking what I could, and then tossing the rest. I wanted to like this place and the service was friendly. I just think they need more employees working to handle orders. The vibe is trying to be eclectic but it's more on the messy/dirty side. Everything looked cluttered and dusty. Overall, i probably wouldn't go back. I feel bad leaving a negative review because i genuinely wanted to like this place and needed a coffee. In the end, i got a crappy iced coffee at McDonald's to try to satisfy my need for caffeine after not being able to drink my cappuccino.

On a recent visit, my passenger--not I--was placing and paying for the order, so I pulled up with the passenger-side window beside one of the stand's two service windows. Because there is a service window on each side of the building, the required direction of travel was not self-evident. There were no other vehicles present and no visible signs, arrows, or pavement markings indicating one-way traffic. Nevertheless, the staff refused to take my passenger's order until I drove around and returned to the same window facing the opposite direction. That made the transaction unnecessarily awkward: my passenger had to speak through me, and I had to pass the payment and drink back and forth. A business may certainly establish a required traffic pattern, but customers cannot reasonably follow a rule that is neither posted nor marked--particularly when the building has service windows on both sides. We were not cutting a line or disregarding instructions; there was no line and no signage to disregard. The more courteous and practical response would have been to complete the transaction, then politely explain the preferred direction for future visits. The coffee is genuinely very good. Unfortunately, the required direction of travel is not marked. Adding signs--and allowing a little reasonable discretion when no other customers are waiting--would greatly improve the experience.
