Don't understand the reason for the rave reviews. I'm grateful for the vegan options, but the food is underseasoned and overpriced. Nothing was salted and the corn cake was dry. Someone on here said the vegan nachos were the "best they ever had" and when it arrived I was so disappointed. Tiny portions, no seasoning except for in the cheese sauce, and nothing had any spice. This is one of my all time favorite places to go when I'm in Tijuana. It's healthy and delicious, with the most invigorating environment. The living wall and floor to ceiling sunlight is like eating in a greenhouse, which in downtown TJ is definitely what you want. Wood and cement finishes add to the urban organic MCM vibe. We ordered a Dulce de Leche Latte and a special citrus hot tea to drink. I ordered Avocado Toast which comes on sourdough bread with hummus and my partner ordered a Quinoa Hash Brown dish to eat. Both of the drinks were served in beautiful coffee mugs and tasted amazing. I had to control myself because I could have easily drank it down quickly and ordered more. The Avocado Toast had a large serving of avocado served on top of the hummus ok the sourdough break. It was delicious and I would definitely order it again. My partner felt the same about the hash browns. Service at the restaurant was both friendly and efficient in nature. All employees appeared to be working hard and smiled often at diners. Great place for a healthy breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Alma Verde has two locations in Tijuana. This one is located in the Colonia Cacho. There is no parking but there is valet service for 20 pesos. They offer a wide variety of fresh cold-pressed juices, smoothies, teas, healthy juice "shots," and coffees. I tried the narangella and lemonella and both were delicious and fresh. They also offer an extensive vegan menu. Breakfast offerings include yogurts, parfaits, oatmeal, chilaquiles, and omelettes. The chilaquiles are outstanding, made with creamy sauces and crunchy tortilla chips. You can order them with eggs, or add chicken if your prefer. You can also switch out the fried tortilla chips for over-baked ones. If you like mole, the cacao chilaquiles are fantastic. You also can't go wrong with the "house" chilaquiles, which are made with a creamy red chile sauce. The portions are generous and the service is good. The place gets packed, though, if you go on a weekend morning, so be prepared to wait for your table. Finally, the price is great for the quality of the food. Two freshly-squeezed juices and two entrees will run you about $20. I'll definitely add Alma Verde to my breakfast rotation in Tijuana. read more

Vegans beware!! We went to Alma Verde as they showed vegan options. Before giving out the order, I said we are all vegan. I went ahead and ordered the vegan Chilaquiles. The waiter asked how I wanted my eggs. I said, Oh no I want everything vegan ( the menu specifies vegan). I was a little concerned after that conversation but I was like it's okay. I think I made it clear everything we ordered was based on their vegan options (no modifications). The waiter brings my Chilaquiles and, of course, there is a sunny side egg on the plate. I reminded the waiter that I had wanted the vegan Chilaquiles and that I didn't want the egg because I am vegan. He then asked me what my definition of vegan because their definition of vegan was that the chicken that laid that egg was raised on a good farm where it wasn't harmed and it was free and it was happy and that's what made the egg vegan. I said," Well, I disagree. You know it's still an animal product and I would prefer not to consume animal products, which is why I ordered it vegan, as your menu stated". He then proceeded to say, OK I will take it to the back and will remove the egg. Once he brought it back, I questioned the cheese and sour cream on top, since we had different definitions of vegan. I asked if the cheese and sour cream were vegan. He said they're lactose free and I said, I want to know if they're vegan --like are they made from nuts. He said," I don't know the ingredients, I just know that they are lactose free". He saw that I was concerned, so he was like, how about I take this dish back and just make the Chilaquiles plain-- tortillas and salsa and avocado. I was grateful and took the offer. At this point, me and my two guests are concerned because, again, we're all vegan and we're looking at the menu again just to make sure that we didn't make a mistake in our end and so, when the waiter comes back with double check that the other two dishes are vegan. The waiter seemed like he was just telling us what we wanted to hear, which made us really nervous because we didn't want to get sick as we were going back home the next day, so we just took the rest of our food to go and gave it to a non-vegan family. I know it's not the waiters' fault for not being informed, but I would just caution anybody who is vegan to maybe talk to the chef or something, because I just left really uneasy with the whole situation. read more

I used to recommend this place a couple years ago to everyone because of the value and high quality food and taste. Unfortunately now it's just as expensive to eat here than it is in San Diego. We love coming to Tijuana to support our people and feel like we are getting a value that's what drives tourism but that's not the case anymore here. And to really top it off they no longer offer free WATER to your table. The most basic of items to offer your paying customers is now sold to you. They used to have a nice water jug with cucumber water or mint and it was a nice touch and it was free but management decided to pull that from customers that's completely unacceptable and honestly it shows profit is more important to them than customer service and customer retention. The food is still good no complaints there but honestly when your paying just as much as you would in the US it's not worth the drive and deal with the border. No longer offering free water killed it for me. read more

The place is warm and very welcoming, It's 2 stories high and I personally like the environment upstairs a lot more than downstairs! My favorite dish last the burger with sweet potato fries, my second favorite is the chilaquiles verdes. I'm really into organic, healthy restaurants and all my friends mentioned me to check this place out. If I can place this location somewhere in San Diego it will be placed in North Park. Super hipster, you got cactuses as centerpieces... The wood decor with plants on the wall etc. In the beginning the service was good and then it began to fade a bit. To drink we ordered cold pressed juices. I actually wanted to cancel some of the fruit because I prefer more greens then sugar but the juices are already made and they crack them open for you to pour over ice. It was good but to sweet for me. To eat I ordered the salmon salad and my husband ordered the chilaquiles with chicken. The first thing I noticed is my salmon with romaine lettuce, weird. Usually it's spring mix or spinach. The fish was cooked perfect but it was slight cold in some areas and super bland it lacked a lot of flavor. The grilled fruit didn't really help. If it was me I would suggest adding some dried fruit, nuts or cheese! My husband dish was good, the chilaquiles tasted like the rancherito chips but after awhile the taste gets to overpowering so you don't want to continue to eat it. I have been coming here for quite some time now and this place has not changed its quality. The valet parking is 20 pesos, the entree I get is 90, and the drink is 45. All in all when I come here I spend about 200 pesos including tip and it is well worth it. The quinoa hash browns are excellent and their orange juice is fresh. Order their "Chile de arbol" sauce and their green sauce and you'll be in for a tasty surprise. The servers are always glad to exchange smiles and are always happy to serve you. Everything sounded good (for the most part). It was my son that forced my hand though. He wanted the cacoa chilaquiles. I make chilaquiles for breakfast, and what child doesn't like cacoa? Well when I was told that the cacoa was mole, I knew he wouldn't. But he insisted on getting it. Not wanting my son to starve, I got the green chilaquiles, because I knew for sure he'd like them. Sure enough, one bite and he didn't want it. Hell, one bite and I didn't want them. If you don't like or even know what mole is, don't get the cacoa chilaquiles. The green chilaquiles, on the other hand, were awesome. Some people won't like the tang of the tomatillo's, but I love it. Wanting to try something different, I also ordered a pistaccino. If this is your first time, think latte mixed with pistachio. They created and patented the drink here. After I got over the initial sip, I enjoyed it. The restaurant itself is really nice. We sat upstairs, and even though my son cried 2/3 of the visit, we still had a good time. He liked looking out the window to the street from up upstairs. I came to eat breakfast with my wife early, it was not crowd it but their service was horrible. After we were seat it and offer drinks, our shots took more than ten minutes to get to our table, and at this time we had already ordered our breakfast (chilaquiles de la casa & sandwich campesino) after they took another 10 minutes to bring my food, they forgot my wife food, so after we asked for our sandwich they keep apologizing for the delay but we never got our sandwich.
