At 9am on a weekday I made an appointment for 12:30 that same day. There were numerous slots available. On the way over I realized I was going to be 6 minutes late and called the shop twice, with no answer. After driving nearly an hour I arrive to a disheveled shop and was told I couldn't possibly have an appointment, the schedule was blocked and nobody could help me. After I showed her my emailed confirmation, she simply said "I'll have to tell the guy who made my website to fix it." No one else was in the store, mind you. I was booted out after I declined to book another day. I wasn't even offered another slot that same day. Don't be fooled by the website. This shop is tiny and dated, and certainly not worth traveling to or dealing with an owner who cannot utilize her own website or even answer the phone. Don't bother trusting her with any garment of importance to you. read more

I came to Alma's for alterations of a bridesmaid dress, and she did an amazing job! My dress fit perfectly around the waist, but was too large on the top. She fixed it and the dress looked amazing. I got so many compliments on my dress, and I know I wouldn't have if I left it as it was. Alma saved the day! I have another wedding I'm a bridesmaid in this year, plus my own wedding later this year, and I will be bringing both of my dresses back to Alma for alterations! I'm disappointed in this place. First off, the amount of money I was charged for what I needed for alterations was absolutely insane. I went back several times and almost every time I went in I was charged additional money. Second, the lady would take it upon herself to pin areas and then charge me for it at the end. At my last fitting, it seemed as though everything fit okay but the day of my wedding was a different story. I kept pulling up my dress from the top and the bottom throughout the night because it wasn't sitting on my body correctly and you can see the pads that were sown in. I did not feel comfortable in it. And lastly, the bustle that she added, she sewed in too many pins. Really wanted to love this place especially for how much I was charged but I was extremely disappointed. read more

I had a very mixed experience at Alma's a few weeks back. I enjoyed my time trying on dresses, but I was also left with a negative feeling about the overall experience. This was my first time going to try on wedding dresses, so I did some research on yelp to find a central place for my family that was traveling from out of town (some from Chico, Granite Bay, and the Bay Area). I found Alma's and thought it would be a great place to start since she has nice dresses, but nothing too boujee, like some of the other places I saw in the Sacramento area. I called and made an appointment about a month ahead of time, and scheduled it with Alma herself. She asked when the wedding was, what dresses I like, how many people were going to be with me, etc. Seemed like we were good to go and I was looking forward to my appointment. We walked in right at 12 for my appointment, and I immediately knew that she wasn't expecting us by the look on her face. My heart sank because my aunt, cousins, grandma, and mom were all there and would be traveling about 4 hours that day just to be a part of the day with me. I told her I had an appointment and she said, "no! I don't have any appointments today!" I told her that we had spoken on the phone about a month ago, and I saw her check the wrong weekend on her calendar. She said she had nothing scheduled so I made sure she was looking at the right date. She flipped back a week and went "OHHHHH. Oh no. I see it. I was going to do my taxes today." Great. My first experience trying on dresses, and I already felt that we were now an inconvenience. She said she could make it work and asked me to start picking out dresses. She had a LOT of beautiful dresses. Many different styles, cuts, etc., and a lot of the different dresses styles that I thought I might like/wanted to try on. For the most part, Alma was helpful, would assist me in getting the dresses on, and would clip it different ways so that we could see the detail of both the front and back. The one thing that made me SO UNCOMFORTABLE is that while trying on dresses, she left the curtain open the entire time! I slid it closed a few times but she would go in & out and open it back up.... and there was a gentleman in the back! That's totally not my style and I just felt so exposed standing their naked with the curtain open. At one point, she made a comment to me (away from my family, back in the dressing room) saying "if you know you don't like a style, don't try any more on because it's more work for me." I was floored. I had tried on ONE dress that was a little out of the range of what I thought I liked, for that very reason.... to rule out that style after actually trying it on. That made me very ready to be done and get out of there and it just was a huge bummer when I was just trying to find something I love for my wedding day. Unfortunately it was a relief to walk out of there, and not somewhere I would recommend based on customer service. Great dresses, but a terrible experience. read more

I tried on wedding dresses at two places before Alma's and was not really enjoying the process of finding a dress. The experience with her was amazing and I found my dress. We got to select dresses and she also made some recommendations based on what I was looking for. I loved that we were the only people in the shop. It is also amazing that Alma is the one who sees you through the whole process and does the alterations because everything fit perfect the first time. In addition to a wonderful wedding dress experience my fiancé couldn't get his suit altered in time and she was able to help us get it ready in time for the wedding! Picking up my jeans, first time having Alma hem them! Wow! She did an amazing job! My greatest find yet! I had Alma hem a pair of AG jeans and a pair of Lucky jeans. I went in with my two pairs in hand and she had me go into the dressing room. She asked me with what shoes I would be wearing them and pinned them accordingly. I was kind of apprehensive about which shoes I would be wearing them with. I could've taken the AG jeans to the Nordstrom Rack store but didn't feel like waiting a week for them. Nordstrom's has tailoring for the jeans you buy through them, but I didn't buy the Lucky jeans there, so I would've had to find an alteration shop anyways. I called another alteration shop in town and they were much more pricier, and they wouldn't be able to alter the jeans in the amount of time, that Alma could. Alma came through, and she was spot on about the length that she hemmed my jeans, I can either wear them with flats or heels! Alma's awesome! Alma was the sweetest women I could have ever worked with for the past year. She is so accommodating with her appointments to work around my busy schedule. There were plenty of days that she would stay late so she could fit me in for a dress fitting. I ended up finding the wedding dress of my dreams here. What I LOVED about Alma's compared to other bridal stores was that when I would set up an appointment with her, it would just be me and her in the store and I had her undivided attention for the most part and got to try on any dresses I wanted. When I went to other bridal boutiques, there were other girls and I "fighting" to try on the same dresses and I ended up spending twice as long trying on dresses there just because the traffic in the store. I met with alma so many times to get my alterations perfect! I was so worried about having a strapless dress for my wedding because I did not want to feel like I had to constantly be pulling it up, but she altered it perfectly and I did not pull up my dress once during the wedding. She had a great selection of dresses and even though my bridesmaids didn't get their dresses at Alma's, alma was so sweet to alter and fix all of their dresses and was doing last minute alterations and perfections to my dress and some of the bridesmaids even the day before the wedding to help us feel as comfortable as we could. My dress has a very detailed lace bottom and it needed about 3 inches taken off the bottom and some work done on the straps. I was worried about losing the lace detail, but there was no detail lost! I ordered my dress from Alma, and she did a fantastic job with the alterations. We added sleeves (and then shortened the sleeves) added a back pannel, and changed some of the lace in the front amongst many other things. She worked quickly each time and did a wonderful job!
