The Sanity Signature massage is a combination of Thai and traditional bodywork. It's great way to introduce yourself to Thai massage if you haven't tried it before. Everyone on staff is very courtesy, attentive, and professional. I've actually been reluctant to review Sanity Thai, because I kind of like to keep it to myself. But know it's better to support them and shout it out to the world.

I was excited to try this place after seeing all the 4.9-star reviews on Google, but unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. Right when you walk in, there's a tipping guide posted down to the dollar amount, which felt a bit off-putting. I'm someone who always tips well over 20%, so I don't need guidance. It just didn't create the best first impression. My friend and I booked different services since we had different needs. I scheduled a 90-minute "sanity signature" massage and specifically wanted medium to firm pressure with a focus on my hip and back. My friend booked an aromatherapy massage and wanted light pressure focused on her shoulders. When we got to our separate rooms, it quickly became clear that our therapists had mixed us up. Mine asked if I wanted aromatherapy, and after I corrected her, she didn't ask any follow-up questions. She ended up spending over half of the session on my right shoulder, barely addressing my back or hip, which was the whole reason I booked. Meanwhile, in my friend's room, once they realized the mix-up, her therapist asked detailed questions about her preferences. However, she still didn't actually receive an aromatherapy experience. She said the closest thing to it was just lotion. After comparing notes, we realized what likely happened: my friend had written down that she wanted focus on her right shoulder, which explains why my therapist spent so much time there instead of following my requests. Another small thing, the website mentions a cash discount, but it's only $5, which felt a bit misleading. Overall, the quality of the massage itself was pretty subpar compared to other Thai massages I've had. If you don't have much to compare it to, it might be fine, but as someone who regularly gets Thai massages, this didn't meet expectations. Additionally, the room was really bright and cold, and the music was really low. I'm honestly on the fence about going back. Part of me wonders if it would be better if they actually followed my intake sheet, but another part of me isn't convinced the overall quality would improve. I'm not sure I want to go back just to find out.

They all just felt like people going through the motions for the most part. I got lucky with Jackie. She has great yelp reviews, but there aren't many (yet), so I wasn't really sure about how legit she was. I live so far away that the odds of me going to her if I ever did want a massage were really low. But I happened to be in the area with some free time and was looking for a massage. Jackie actually massages like I hope/expect a massage therapist to do it. She finds and fixes problems whereas all the other massages I've gotten just feel like they're rubbing me in a fancy way until time is up. I had tons of tension and knots in my shoulder and back area, and Jackie worked them all out. It was pretty intense the first time when I was at my worst, but I felt so good afterwards. Jackie really knows how to apply pressure and massage effectively. Even though I live so far away (close to SF), I still go down there for massages because Jackie is awesome. The only way she could be more awesome is if she worked closer to my house!

I have plenty of knots, but the therapist did not seem to be aware of them, let alone how to work on them. My back is in significant pain after my massage, whereas beforehand it was just a bit tight. Not to mention, the massage table was covered with musty damp towels, and the level of professionalism was lacking. My overall impression was that the business owner was unprepared for my visit and had an employee who isn't actually trained in massage perform the massage. I tipped the person who performed the massage 20% because I honestly just felt bad that she clearly had tried but didn't actually know how to do a massage.
