Considering that, plus they were both spayed and neutered, had their shots, and microchipped, the adoption fee is very reasonable. Also they did a home visit to make sure the dogs got along with our other dogs and cats. So much better than just bringing a dog home only to find out it hates cats or is not housetrained! We had seen the ALGBR website and were enamored with a few of the dogs they had listed. They also list "events" on their website at a few Petsmart locations on different weekends of the month. Since we were looking on the 3rd Saturday, we went to the Petsmart on McKellips and Power to hopefully meet some of the dogs. We drove from central Phoenix all the way out to Mesa. . .but apparently they don't bring any of their rescues to these "events". They did have a handy binder containing printouts of all of the listings we had seen online. Ok. . . Since we were there, we filled out an application and gave it to one of the volunteers, along with the $15 app fee, and a copy of our current lease showing that dogs are allowed and we've paid all associated pet fees, and the volunteers assured us we'd be contacted in 24-48 hours. By the way, the adoption application is way more intense than any college admissions application I've ever filled out. "If your new Rescue needed an emergency operation, which might cost you $1,000 to $1,500 would you do it, if your Veterinarian said it was necessary? " Does anyone ever write in "It depends on how much it costs to euthanize. . ."??? Seriously. Anyway, 48 hours later and no call, I decided to give a call to the # listed on the website, and got a messaging system on which I left my information. I got a call back a few hours later, and the nice woman told me that if I gave my application to a volunteer, they were probably just going to mail it in for us, so just fill out another application online and email it to them. Great - the trip out to Mesa was officially a complete and utter waste of time. 24- 48 hours after emailing the electronic application and still no phone call. So I called them up again and the same woman answered, thanked me for the application, told me that they did eventually get the one I filled out by hand, and that someone would be contacting me shortly to set up a home visit. So the wife and I decided instead to go to the AZ Humane Society Campus for Compassion where we got a lovely puppy that we adore, totally hassle free. 2 stars to ALGBR only because they are doing a wonderful and noble charity by rescuing dogs. But it's obvious that these volunteers are not interested in giving up their "adoptable" dogs and would rather be lifetime fosters to their rescues. UPDATE - it's 2.5 years later and ALGBR still hasn't called me about my application ;-) Wish I could get that $15 back.

We were very satisfied and pleased with the professional nature and compassion of the organization. They basically rescue Labrador Retrievers and other large dogs from owners around the state who no longer can keep them (for various reasons). The rescue org. takes the dogs in and puts them in loving foster homes until the dogs can be adopted. The process was amazingly straight forward to adopt a dog. You look at the bios of adoptable dogs on their website, download an application on-line, schedule a home-interview with one of their reps. They then come to the house at your convenience and look at the application...they check to check to make sure you're not a crazy person and will actually care for the dog. :) The next step is finding a dog that you love from the website. They have puppies all the way to older adult dogs. Also, the organization knows many of the dogs histories, since many of them aren't strays. So, you know from their bios what the dogs temperament is right off the bat. When you find a dog you like from the website, the foster parent drives the dog to your house. You then see how well the dog gets along with your other dogs or kids, if you have them and if you want the dog, you fill out a little paperwork, pay the adoption fee and have a wonderful new addition to your home. If you find the dog doesn't fit your needs, more foster dogs will come to your house until you find one that fits. We are so pleased with our dog and can't imagine life without him!!

Their fees are far below what they spend on average to get a dog ready to adopt particularly given the surgeries, rehab, training, and medication that often go into special need dogs. I have had 9 dogs from them over the years (now down to 6) but every one lived a long happy life and brought much joy to my family.

They charge far more than the allotted amount for a rescue. I got a dog from them. He was a KNOWN BITER and they didn't disclose this. Once he bit me for a final time (with photos)...he went back. They lied about the whole thing and now this dog is back on their website. His name is GORDON...DON'T ADOPT HIM - HE BITES! He will HURT you! I am so disgusted about this, I wrote a review hoping to save someone else from heartache and trauma. And no, it wasn't "just me"...I'm a trainer and have trained many service, therapy and guide dogs but I do know a red line biter when I see it...and feel it. BEWARE !!!

We went to Scottsdale Pet Hotel (the available dogs are boarded there) and were asked to bring our existing dogs, which I liked. We spent quite a bit of time with Pumi (not his name anymore) and everyone who worked with us was really nice and very helpful throughout the process. We fell in love with our new family member instantly. We will be taking him to our personal vet, just to have him checked out, although he seems very healthy. We would definitely use this rescue again, and I have already told a couple people about them.

I searched and searched and searched on PetFinder and sent countless pictures of needy pets to my husband. Finally, I stumbled upon a picture of an adorable dog named Casanova. He stole my heart and I knew we were meant to be. The husband gave in. This dog was taken care of through the foster program at Mixed Up Mutts and Shepherds Too. I contacted his foster mom and we set up a meeting time. His foster mom was incredibly accommodating and went out of her way to find a home for this sweet dog. Long story short, we met and I adopted the dog that day. Now Rally (formerly Casanova) is a happy, energetic, well adjusted dog. I have a lot of gratitude for the organization that took him in time and time again after he was adopted out and then returned as if he were store merchandise. I know his foster mom took excellent care of him. I was so pleased with this organization and I found their adoption fees to be very minimal. Excellent customer service and consideration for animals goes a long way.

Bad experience when filling out the form online, I selected a neuter plus a shot package during…read moredrop off. They made me signed paperwork, but did not confirm anything with me so I would assume because I did the form online. They would've provided the shot package to my dog, but they did not since I did not confirm it during drop off, which why would I think I had to do that and in the end, my puppy could not get shots! Very frustrating.
