We booked this hotel because we were part of a stay-and-play travel baseball tournament, so it was required. If it wasn't, we would have left after the first night. When I originally booked this hotel in February, I selected 2 double beds for my room. Then, when I received my email this week reminding me of my stay, it said 1 king. I was able to get this corrected over the phone prior to arrival. Parking is terrible if you have anything bigger than a crossover-type vehicle. I had to park on the roof with a truck, and the parking is extremely tight with no connection between lanes, so if you get to the end and there are no spots you have to reverse back out. Parking is $5 per day. When I checked in, the staff seemed annoyed that I went to the desk when I had already done the app check-in, but I wanted to verify that we had the right room before taking all the luggage upstairs. Also, now that I'm writing this, I'm remembering that my welcome email said to be looking forward to my check-in cookie and I never got one. Our room was smaller than expected, dusty (in bathroom and next to beds), dingy (worn furniture, water damage), and smelly, but the worst part was the heat and humidity. I turned the AC down to 60 and then left for a few hours. When I came back, the temperature had barely dropped. That night, the AC did not kick on until around 4:00 a.m. despite being at 60 for about 12 hours before that. I had to use the bathtub for one of my kids (gotta do what you gotta do) and I couldn't figure out how to unplug the drain so I called downstairs. I called once and the phone rang for about a minute with no answer. I called again and the gentleman who answered said he would ask his maintenance man and call me back. Never received a call back and just found the answer on Google (have to push down again instead of twisting). We went to dinner in the hotel restaurant one night, and that was a terrible experience. I'll post another review on their page but it added to our overall impression of the hotel so I'm including it here too. We have a stroller, so we have to use the elevator to get up and down. At times, it seemed only one elevator was working and I would wait 5 minutes for a car, only to see it was full of other guests since there was only one, and then have to start over. At one point, after waiting 20 minutes and watching other guests wait and then give up, I was resolved to take the stroller down 3 flights of stairs rather than wait again, but he next one was available. Once you do get an elevator, the doors are only open for about 8 seconds before closing. I missed a couple because I had the stroller so I learned to stand right outside the door to catch them, which is awkward when the people inside have their door open immediately to my face. The lobby (atrium?) is very hot because of all the windows (maybe this adds to the overall stickiness of the hotel). A friend we had in another room was unable to open her door until staff told her she had to pull up on the handle instead of pushing down like the rest of the rooms. Why not replace it? There is no streaming on the TVs so you're stuck with local channels unless you brought a device to plug in. Oh, and no breakfast included: you can eat at the aforementioned terrible restaurant for just $18 per person per day. Overall, any one of these issues would be okay if it was just one of them (AC on the fritz, 2/3 broken elevator cars, busy night for the restaurant, etc.) but everything piling on was just laughable by the end of the stay. read more

Our stay this past weekend was pretty much hot garbage. The floors smelled like a sewage pipe broke, one of the guests in our group had a clogged toilet from the previous occupant, and every single ice machine was out of ice. The rooms were cleaned just enough to make it look like someone did something but there were stains, broken fixtures and just overall looked like trash. The only reason im giving two stars was because of the bar and restaurant, nice staff there and accommodating. Hotel itself left something to be desired. read more

Stayed here for a conference. Toilet would not flush, and when it did would run, and run, and run. I wouldn't let my neighbors cat drink from the coffee maker. The Starbucks was not open on time. The carpet was held down by tape. Random entry doors would be locked at random times of day. Do not expect things like charging ports, you will be sadly disappointed. read more

Rooms were tiny and dirty. The ceiling in the room was stained from some sorta leaking. The tub was stained and dirty, the toilet paper roll holder was broken. Room smelled musty. The breakfast was just a simple continental breakfast that should not cost $18. All the other hilton hotels include such a simple breakfast with the stay and not charge extra for it. The parking was $17 and our vehicle was too tall to even fit in the parking garage but was still charged the $17 parking fee. read more

The room was small, it looks like it has not been updated since the late 80's early 90's. The furniture was beaten up. The shower had very little water pressure and squealing when on. The towels had holes in them and shower curtain was stained. The elevators worked some of the times. Floors were dirty and look like they have not been cleaned for a while. They say they are doing improvements but saw nothing. The temperature of the hotel was hot and was uncomfortable. Also, the door to the room would not shut all the way. So if you did not pay attention you would leave your room open thinking it was locked. read more

The 2 stars is for the great location and absolutely wonderful front desk staff. I am shocked this is a Hilton Hotel- unbelievably shocked. Our room is dirty... and when I say dirty, I'm talking dirty. Everything is covered in dust, if we walk barefoot on the carpet our feet turn black. Water damage in various places, rippled wallpaper where either the adhesive is just old, or water has caused it to lift. I wouldn't recommend this place at all. read more

If I could've given this place zero stars I would! This place sucks!! When we first got in there was a crunch under our feet. We just got to the pool and it's so humid, and stinks like a dead fish. The hot tub is ice cold. The hot tub does not work! The stairs to the pool suck, there is only one step, and its busted to the point that tape is holding it up! There are many bugs around the pool. There is algae in the pool. There is fur around the pool. In the hotel room, the lamp is busted and the TV is not working properly. There is a two way mirror in bathroom (we checked)! I find it hard to believe that Hilton would allow this property to become so dingy, dated, and dumpy. This property is in severe need of renovation! I honestly feel sorry for the staff, they should not be subject to working in the condition of this property. Dysfunctional(I think non operational) AC in common areas. Horrific smell in lobby restrooms. Hallways musty smelling, peeling wallpaper in rooms, moldy caulk in bathroom of guest room and some sort of substance on vents of the ac unit in guest room. The Doubletree is a solid option when looking for a room in South Bend. It stands out when you're driving around downtown, with its sloping glass roof. And it's attached to the Century Center. It's a bit odd that when you're taking the elevator up to your room, you're whizzing by offices with floor-to-ceiling windows, peering in at people hard at work behind desks. But if you are coming into town to work with a company in the Century Center, this hotel could be doubly appropriate. The pros: * Great location. You're right in downtown South Bend, within easy walking distance to the river and area restaurants. * Ask for a room with a view, and hopefully you'll get put on the top floor like I was, looking out on the river, which is lit up in beautiful colors at night. * Great service. Like I said, I asked for a view when I checked in and was immediately accommodated. * Free cookies!!!! I'm sad that I didn't get to try on on my recent stay, but I could smell them. Mmmmmmmm. * Not too shabby of a price for the best hotel in town. I got my room for about $150 plus fees, about one week before I needed to stay there. * Very clean. Can't really beat that. * Easy and free airport shuttle. The 6 a.m. shuttle was right on time and had me at the airport in about 10 minutes. The cons: * The rooms can look a bit dated. For example, the carpet looked like it hadn't been changed in years. But again, the room was very clean. * The giftshop -- if that's the right word for it -- is small. Like about the size of a walk-in closet. So if you are in need of convenience items beyond what they have, you'll have to venture out into downtown. I plan to be in South Bend a lot for work, and it's a comfort to know where I will be staying when I come. read more

The 1 star is for the nice staff....this hotel is old and dirty!!! They jack the price up for football weekends. I took pictures of our room for proof and sent to the GM. He failed to respond to my email. I wrote again stating I would post pictures and he refunded our first night stay of $185.00. The Fri/Sat stay was over $400 a night. Finger and lip marks on room glasses. Stains on furniture. Carpets in hallways needed to be vacuumed. Soda, pool and ice machines out of order. Dust on the furniture. In room coffee maker disgusting! Stains on bed dust ruffle. Need I go on?! Hilton should not have their name associated with this place. Our sheets and towels were clean. The manager also went through our room and took pictures as well. Best advice, find another place to stay unless this place has gone through a complete deep clean read more

The location and "feel" of this hotel are both great - the devil is in the details with this location. Mostly just some wear and tear in random areas (elevators, signage, etc.) which only add to the fact that the property itself can be a little confusing as far as where to go once you've parked, how to get to the front desk, and which elevators to use. Honestly I don't spend much time in the hotel outside of the walk from the garage to my room, so what really matters to me is the a clean room and bathroom - which this hotel checks off the list for sure. But on the whole this is a really great location and great value for what you get. All in all though for a moderately sized city this is a great hotel and I would definitely stay here again if I'm back in the area. read more

After notifying the front desk that my room had literal food smeared on the furniture I was moved to an equally dusty and disappointing room. I like this hotel, I stay here often for work. Recently, I heard they had bed bugs from a coworker. I've had pleasant stays here before & didn't really believe it. I got room 408, took light precaution, sprayed the bed lightly with alcohol before bed & kept my suitcase off the ground (trick to keep bed bugs away I heard from coworkers). I slept great, alarm went off at 5 am for work, I turn on the lights & a bug was crawling on my comforter! I didn't want to believe it was bed bug at first, because it's a nightmare I've heard about. I travel 4 days a week for work & stay in multiple hotels. I called & spoke with front desk lady who was semi in denial of the bed bug. I reported it to my work & requested a different hotel for that night. The report came back from hotel saying quote "No bed bugs except for the one, I feel like this was dropped & placed in the room". I'm very insulted that they think I'm carrying a bug around to place in the room to sabotage them or something. If they would just admit it & say they called an exterminator, it would've resolved this issue, but they are clearly in denial which is why I feel I had to post this review. FYI My company pays for my hotels for work so I'm not getting anything from complaining like free room etc it's already free for me read more

We were in town for a friend's graduation and I had never been to Indiana. We had recently had a bad experience with AirBnb so had to find a hotel fast. The doubletree was running a special so we stayed there. The hotel service is on a level of a 5 star hotel. We were checked in and of course we received a warm chocolate chip cookie. I asked for a cart for luggage and the nicest bellhop Carter ( I believe) appeared out of nowhere to help with our bags. They also had a nice beer and wine reception for Notre Dame graduation. We stood outside waiting for an Uber and the hotel shuttle offered to take us to our destination about 15 mins away for free! When we stayed in our room we had a small issue with housekeeping. We called the front desk and spoke to Michelle who was so kind and accommodating. Liz the manager came upstairs hand delivered an apology note along with breakfast coupons. If every doubletree was like this one I would never stay in another hotel brand again! read more

I love the gym and that there is a Starbucks in the building but let's get to it I had to wait 10 min after working 5 flights today, so exhausted is an understatement. This lady "cleaning" put all these dirty wet towels on the floor (the floor that I walk on barefoot) and replaced then asking me how many I need. I told her to put in how many they're supposed to put in because I dont want them to think I took towels or something. She was kind enough to leave me no bars of soap and no shampoo. Sike. I have to call downstairs now and have someone bring me soap and shampoo. Is that a bloody boogie on the floor?! It better not be something else! Right next to the cleaning lady's foot prints!!! The Doubletree is currently undergoing extensive renovations so hopefully this will relieve / improve some of the issues we experienced. We selected the Doubletree as our host hotel for our wedding in October 2012 simply because it was a half mile down the street from the Oliver Gardens / Center for History where both our ceremony and reception were taking place. My in-laws came in from Florida and stayed at the Doubletree for a week. They originally were not provided the discount rate, but we were able to have that fixed. When the checked in and settled into their room after a long day of traveling, they discovered there was no hot water so they were stuck with cold showers. I contacted the General Manager and was told that it was a planned outage to replace the boiler and they should have been informed at the time of their check-in. They continued to have some issues with hot water and were eventually moved to another room for the rest of their stay. My husband also stayed at the Doubletree the night before our wedding and we had a nice, but very dated suite (complimentary upgrade). The toilet was not working properly and he made several requests to have it repaired prior to our wedding night (which never happened). We had mixed reviews from several of our wedding guests - some said everything was fine and others complained about no hot water, constanting running toilets and a few other minor issues. All in all, it turned out to be a disappointing experience, but I am hopeful things will change with the renovations as the hotel is conveniently located in the heart of downtown South Bend. read more

I'm not sure why this hotel has almost five stars, I stayed there for a weekend and it was filthy. The pool water was green and murky and the hot tub had caution tape all over it. My first time visiting South Bend. Checked in and received a friendly welcome and the offer for bottled water and a giant cookie. Yes, please! Went up to my room and it was nice. Looked over the inside of the hotel and the lobby. Some of my lamps were a little dusty. They didn't clean my room on the 2nd day but that may have been because I had left some things on my bed, or maybe I was in the room at the time that they tried to clean. Really not sure, but that wasn't a big deal to me. They will give you 1,000 Hilton points if you decline housekeeping - I believe you have to be staying 2 nights or more for this benefit. The comforter was a bit hot - next time I will look for a blanket and use that instead of the comforter. Parking is $15 per night for guests in the adjacent parking lot. One of my favorite aspects of this hotel is the convenient downtown location. It's walking distance from Cafe Navarre (expensive but delicious), LaSalle and Woochi Sushi. read more

RUDE! The man in the position as desk clerk on 3/22/2022 in the late afternoon, was rude. I was in line with 2 people in front of me, one being assisted at the time, and a lady walks up and stands at the desk close to the side of the man being helped. After that guy is finished, he asked the guy in front of me how he could help him. After he checks him in and gives him water and cookies, he looks to his right asking the lady how he can help her, like I wasn't standing there waiting the entire time. Neither the lady or the clerk even looked at me until he was finished with everyone. Such behavior should not be tolerated of employees who are representing Hilton Hotels. read more

Literally the worst experience I've ever had at a hotel. The entire 5th floor spelled like raw sewage. Our room was so hot and no matter what the temp was set to it stayed hot. Ice machine was broken on the floor, the pool and hot tub was closed for maintenance. We asked about getting switched to a new room and they said they didn't have any of the suites like we had paid for (almost $300.00 a night room.) Miss Mary at the front desk did what she could to help even bringing a bottle of Lysol for us to keep and to spray in the room because it was so hot and stinky in our room after she walked in and smelled and felt it herself she said that was the only thing she could do to help with our problem. Which even though it didn't help much we still appreciated her trying. She told us the manager would be in around 9 am & would be able to help us further. We go down to eat breakfast and try to lay down for a little while before check out and the restaurant is also not opening today. I again asked to speak with a supervisor or manager since miss Mary said one would be in around 9 am & the lady now at the desk says the managers don't typically come in until after 3 pm if they even come in. So I highly recommend NOT STAYING at this hotel!!! read more
