This is not the best Aloft we've stayed in but will do for a short trip. The hotel is clean. Front desk staff are friendly. They do not serve up breakfast buffet like most hotels. Instead you can order through a window and it's freshly made for you. Our room is smaller than other Aloft but it's not super tight and if you organize your space well, it is perfect. I like the small bench seat by the wi down where we are able to put and open our luggage. There's a safe in the room which gives me security, iron and board, coffeemaker too. There's no fridge. They gave us one bottle of water for the entire stay. read more

This review will seem a little harsh. I've had some time to sit and think about it and as a true Yelper we have to review accordingly. This has got to be one of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. 2 stars for the front desk. They were friendly and courteous. Onto the ugly. The walls are paper thin. I could hear everything. And by everything I meant as minute as a cough, a sneeze. So when my next door neighbors decided to get a little..."rowdy", it was a very a very uncomfortable experience. I failed to bring my earbuds with me, otherwise I would have blasted music in my ears until it was done. All I could really do is turn on the tv at a very high volume and hope that my other next door neighbors didn't get pissed off. The room itself is extremely small. I've stayed numerous times at other Alofts (my favorite one is the Newark one), and I was extremely disappointed with this one. the bed was uncomfortable, they didn't provide the usual complimentary water. The parking lot itself is pretty small too. I'll be doing some more research to find a suitable hotel the next time I need to stay out there. read more

I really enjoyed our stay at Aloft Sunnyvale. It's in downtown Sunnyvale which is exactly where we needed to be. Either there was no one else staying in the rooms next to ours or you really can't hear the other people because I didn't hear the neighbors. The rooms are small, but I also didn't choose one of the large rooms so their rooms are priced accordingly. Housekeeping came by everyday to clean and change the towels, which I really appreciated. All the employees were so courteous when we ran into them. Parking was included which I found to be a rarity when I was searching for hotels in the area. read more

My high rating is due to the front desk staff. Location was perfect for me because of work. It's not a typical environment for Aloft. It's in between busy areas and it can be loud. They provide ear plugs for those sensitive to noise. Parking is confusing but Raiz (I think who was the front desk) explained the parking situation well. The room is on the small size, but enough room for what we needed. You can tell it was an older building, but as someone who cares about the environment can appreciate them utilizing the space. Cleanliness could be better. But it's not disgusting. I saw one tiny spider web. It was all good. AC was off and on, as someone who sweat a lot it didn't bother me much. I loved the shower so much, take a cold one and I was fine all night. Bed was nice! My family unexpectedly tagged a long and the 3 of us fit comfortably on their king size bed. I am not small so it was surprising to me. I didn't sleep well due to my health issues but each time I did lie down, I was comfortable and able to catch some . Raiz and Jenny (front desk at checkout) were both a delight! They really make you feel like a human. In this day and age, it's rare to find that type of customer service. To start, the staff I interacted with were all great. Very friendly, very welcoming, and very caring. This poor review does not reflect their work since I could tell they do care. Also the beds were nice and the room was very clean. Outside of these aspects, the experience staying here was pretty bad if I'm honest. It was probably the noisiest hotel room I've experienced in recent memory. The noise came from all sides. The door to the hallway didn't isolate sound so I heard the ice machine, the elevator, and every conversation. The window to the outside had basically no seal at all so it sounded as if the window was open to the street even when it was closed. Every truck, motorcycle, and bus sounded feet from the bed. In addition, the hotel is located by the Caltrain stop, and every train blows its horn when arriving which is clearly audible even at 6:30 AM. The fact that the staff provide earplugs in the room means this is a known thing, but instead of earplugs the owners should invest in new windows that actually seal among other structural improvements. The parking is also a shared public lot where the hotel gives guests parking passes to avoid getting towed. When I arrived in the evening, there was a street festival going on so every spot was full. I had to follow someone to their car to park. I would suggest adding dedicated spots just for hotel guests at least on nights where there is an event. There are several other Marriott properties in the area that I've stayed in that are much better taken care of and much more pleasant. I would recommend choosing them and avoiding this one. read more

Apologies no photos- we had a very busy weekend and it was a fast trip. This is for last weekend The good: The check in was easy and employee who checked us in was outstanding. I think his name was Royce? Professional, personable, and very, very good hands. Our room was clean and I am personally a fan of flooring versus carpet in hotel rooms. It just gives me the impression of being cleaner. I really appreciate it having the two complementary bottles of water. Lots of places to charge devices The bed was very comfortable The bathroom was well lit and laid out well This location is right next to downtown Sunnyvale and very convenient. I walked over to target because I forgot some thing. Saturday morning, we walked across to the farmers market and got some fresh fruit before we went out for the day. Lots of restaurants and coffee places Other stuff- The shower. The shower is spacious and I enjoyed the water pressure. The shower door, however, close right or something because water leaks all over the floor We had to go ask for more towels to mop up the water. There was less water the second night because I repositioned the showerhead, but it still got all over the floor We did not notice any noise from other rooms however I also didn't see anyone on our floor. We did, however, hear people in the parking lot although it was quiet after midnight The room is compact, but very efficiently laid out. I mean, we were basically there to sleep shower change and go back out. . The parking lot is a shared parking lot. The sign says three hour limited parking, but you can get a pass from the front desk. We had no problems finding parking however I suspect it may be timing. I'm giving a solid three, 3 1/4 really The shower door that much water out really bothered me. I had to try the floor before I could dry my hair. The room itself was clean and well furnished. The bed was comfortable. We did not like was how the air vent blew directly onto the bed. It would've been nice if the vent could be adjusted. We stayed here for a night for a concert and it was conveniently located within walking distance of a bunch of restaurants, bars, and shops in the Sunnyvale area. The parking lot has a bunch of "3 hours only" signs but if you are staying at the hotel you get a parking pass that overrides it. The room was nice and the king-sized bed was comfortable. The bathroom was especially nice with high-end finishes. They also have live music on Wednesday nights, happy hour, and their signature WXYZ bar if you want a drink. The room isn't huge and we weren't in the room for a long time but it was a comfortable stay! read more

Comfortable stay! I have stayed here numerous times for business and it is always great. Front desk is always cheerful and some days they offer free popcorn! Lobby is pretty standard and has a microwave at the kitchen area. Small gym but can get a decent workout in with the equipment they have. The room itself I have only stayed in King-Sized bed rooms. Every single time has been amazing! Two free water bottles in room and super comfortable bed! Plenty of space for a single or duo and very well kept. I personally like the showers here the best compared to all the other Alofts. It has very bright light and feels more luxurious. Parking situation is horrible... no where to park really quick and bring your luggage.. The staff is great don't get me wrong on that part, they are very kind and sweet, all the way around. They told us as we were checking in that our queen room was being upgraded, and we were excited. But the room didn't look any different than the one we already booked. Room is very small, not a lot of counter space for anything. The gym is nice! They have a nice bar as well. Checked in late on a friday evening in Downtown Sunnyvale!! Pulling up to the area I was already anticipating a cranky, short tempered front desk staff, dealing with the variety of drunk patrons around the hotel. To my surprise check in was pretty nice.... However the absolute BEST, MOST AMAZING & SWEETEST part of this hotel; has to be the late night solider Ms. Michelle. She handled the front desk and the tipsy people at 2 am with such grace and an amazing attitude would book here again strictly for Michelle!!! read more

Check in was easy and the front desk was nice but that's about as far as it gets from there. We stayed in room 210, facing the walkway into the front desk. Everything from the hallways could be heard from our room. I looked at the other doors and our room was the only room without a rubber stopper. It doesn't help at night either when other guests decide to have conversations in the hallways. We also kept waking up cause we could hear our upstairs neighbor stomping at all hours of the night. The shower water leaked into the bathroom as the rubber stopper there had a hole that didn't keep the water in. And lastly, the ac was not working in our room. It was cooler to leave the windows open than to blast the ac but then that amplified the noise from outside. Overall, not a good experience but that's because of the way the hotel is built. We've been staycationing at dozens of Marriott properties throughout the Bay Area to secure my current Bonvoy status for the following year. This Aloft is centrally located to ALL that Downtown Sunnyvale has to offer. And this def has its pros and cons. Tons of bars and restaurants if that's your scene. It also means using the shared parking lot which was a HUGE challenge on Halloween weekend with all the festivities in the area. The rooms are far smaller than other Aloft properties in the South Bay, so I truly appreciate the very sweet and accommodating front desk staff that offered me a comp upgrade to their largest room. That being said, the rooms and bathrooms are modern but lacking in amenities. There's no mini fridge and no microwave in room, which was a deal breaker for us regarding future stays. The walls are paper thin, I thought our door was ajar based on the sound levels of passerby's in our hallway. Cute boutique but if we had to stay at another Aloft in the area, I'll return to the well-appointed one in Cupertino 3 miles up the road. See that separate review for the reasons why :) read more

Why two stars? Let me tell you. I really appreciate the aesthetic and ambiance at Aloft Hotels. The decor is modern and clean. I like the way things are laid out. The fitness center is small but well stocked with machines and even free weights. When we went in there yesterday evening there was no one in there, same story this morning. The location of this hotel is why we chose it. It is situated a stone's throw away from S. Murphy Street, which is a lively little district made up of phenomenal restaurants, a Gelato shop, and other stores. Whole Foods and a movie theater are just a block up. Dozens of reviews mention the parking situation because yes, it is bad. Imagine showing up at your hotel after extensive travel or a long day and not being able to park in your own parking lot? Yikes. We had requested, in advance, a room on the top floor because we are both sensitive sleepers, and we also go to sleep early. Sure enough, we are given a room on the first floor. We go to check it out and the windows are open and they both face the hotel's entrance. What? How are these windows not frosted but some of the 2nd story windows are? Back to the room noise situation, as luck would have it, the occupant above us must have gotten in after midnight and just stomped around for about two and a half hours after. Did I say something to the front desk? No, because what would they tell him? "Sir, can we kindly request you not walk back and forth in your own room? Or at the very least, change your gait?" Yeah, no. I just tried to jam my ear plugs further in my ear canals and turned my white noise on my iPhone all the way up. Only problem is that it is not just heard but FELT. This happened at the other Aloft a few miles up the freeway. So while everything looks pretty here, it isn't worth a horrendous night's sleep. Particularly when we are in town for business (Santa Clara) and we have two very long days ahead. I have been suggested to call the front desk this afternoon to see about a room on the top floor. Fingers crossed that we can make that change. read more

Room 329 Pros: *Clean *pillows were soft, and didn't get a neck cramp *bathrooms are clean *downtown Sunnyvale; where there were cute restaurants and bars near by *free parking *staff was friendly enough *comfy bed Cons: *smaller property *parking is normally taken up by people who are near the bars; so not enough parking, and the spaces are small *I asked for 4th floor (very top), because I hate hearing footsteps running around while it's dead ass middle of the night. *Front desk gave us room 329, which was by the stair case, and said they gave us an "upgrade to a bigger room". *The room wasn't that big, but the bed was a king. *because it was by the staircase, there were people running up and down the stair case like they were working out. * people were running down the hall way, and also screaming *this went on for 1.5 hours at like 5-6:30 in the morning. *I called down stairs, but not much was done. My company booked this hotel for me and my experience here was pretty bad. The rooms are tiny, pricy, and most important is very noisy! I'm not sure it's their aisle air con. outside the room was malfunctioning or always just like this, but it's not just loud I can even feel the floor vibrating because of it. I asked to change rooms or even change to other floors, but not much difference. I can feel the whole building is shaking, especially during the nighttime. The only good thing was the location, but it's no way to over to have a good night sleep. If you, unfortunately, have to stay here, here is my suggestion. Ask for a room number less than 214/314/414 no matter which floor or will be too close to the loud aisle air con. read more

Was going to Concert at Levi Stadium knew we were going to be drinking and didn't want to get a DUI. Checked in to the room 328 daughter had purchased the rooms because we had purchased the Concert tickets. Noticed parking lot is shared with multiple businesses in the area and signs all over stating no parking between the hours of 2am to 6am. Went to desk asked the very friendly clerk about the signs he assured us as long as the permit was in the windshield we would be allowed. Left in an Uber to the Concert and returned the same way. Went up to the room on the 3rd floor and got out of the elevator it smelled like excrement in the hallway. Had Noticed this smell earlier when we checked in but I had thought that maybe someone had recently passed wind. Not twice in the same day. Noticed on check in also that both sides of the bed had ear plugs? Found out when returning why, their is an extremely loud nightclub directly across the street from our room with some heavy hitting subwolfers Great! Installed ear plugs and went to sleep. This is the first time staying at an ALOFT in northern California but we always stay in ALOFT'S when in So California. Went down to find that they had a very limited breakfast menu and nothing posted other than $5.00 pastries. OK pass go get our overnight bag and went to check out. Lady at front desk was very polite handed in our key and left. Out to our car only to find that someone had broken the center reflector off of our lift gate. Great now I need to buy a new reflector for my vehicle to the tune of $375.57 not including a trip to the bodyshop to get it installed. No sence of going inside due to the fact I already know what they will say! Not responsible for damage so I am out of luck! Never had this happen in a hotel/motel/cruise terminal dedicated parking lot. Needless to say I would not return to this ALOFT due to lack of parking and noise in room. It's ashamed because the desk people I delt with definitely care about the guest. read more

We were told that room service would be every other day but we our room was skipped we called the desk and told them our room was skipped. The next day housekeeping actually cleaned our room. It's good enough. Good price, convenient location but nothing special from a hotel perspetive. Location is great, walk to downtown Sunnyvale for food, target, whole foods, movie theater... Rooms are updated and modern but quite small, good enough if you just need to sleep. It's a really quite large and a bit of a maze, combine with a super slow elevator making it hard to get in and out of the hotel. Parking is public parking and dt sv isn't the most safe place so make sure to not leave anything valuable in your car. Staff seems new? Friendly, but things take quite awhile. Compact and minimalist, Aloft will not impress with any above average amenities but provides just sufficient hotel experience to be comfortable for a few night stay. We picked Aloft Sunnyvale due to its proximity to our friend's place and where we want to visit. Otherwise, Aloft's central location in Sunnyvale may serve very few tourists except for those with specific reasons to be in this area. The parking lot is shared with the local plaza filled with restaurants and misc shops. The visitors to the plaza aside from hotel guests do not seem like the most friendly crowd as others have mention. Even past 10PM, there were random people standing around the parking lot chitchatting or what not. The lobby is small and quaint. And the front desk staffs are all very friendly and provided all our needs including accommodating late check out. We also opt for the green option by redeeming a $5 voucher for a bottle of Naked Juice instead of having the house cleaner clean the room the next day. Free parking is shared in the common lot with the rest of the plaza. Do not get overwhelmed by the green, black, and red restriction signs. The front desk staff can print out a parking permit that supposedly, in the words of the front desk, negates all restrictions. Parking is free! No complaints. We stayed on the 3rd floor in an "upgraded" room. Apparently as others have mentioned, the difference is king size instead of queen size bed. My recommendation is to stay on the top floor (4th) because we were rudely awaken by footsteps above us early morning... soundproof may be limited. Bed is comfortable. Extra towels were provided when requested. Full wall mirror. Single sink though and no bathtub. Yup, this is no St. Regis or even Westin but hey, there's plugs by bedside so we can charge our phones. What more can you ask for? There's a huge LG TV right in front of bed which we enjoyed. The window cannot be fully open and there really isn't a view to speak of. One water bottle was provided but we were able to request more as needed for our stay. WiFi is easily accessible with last name and room number as login. We were not told of any restriction and was able to connect our phone and WiFi. Thermostat works well but it did get chilly one night that the heater came on because the weather dipped below 70... and boy was the heater loud! Free breakfast goes by re:fuel is provided in the lobby in the morning from 7AM to 10AM. The description is "self-serve gourmet pantry full of mix-and-match meals, make-your-own cappuccinos, and more." There are prices listed on the espresso machine so we didn't bother touching it. Otherwise, the selection was very minimal. There are frozen sandwiches, hard boiled eggs, apples, cereal, and the standard coffee, decaf coffee, and hot water. I was pleasantly surprised to see some Häagen-Dazs pint size chocolate ice cream and coffee ice cream bar! Are you serious? Free Häagen-Dazs ice cream? That pushed it from 3 star (avg) to above average! Overall, we didn't care for the selection too much and just grabbed some coffee but did chuckle when a couple walked in and whispered to each other, "let's go to Starbucks" after a quick 30 second scan around the room. For reference, I am a Elite Gold member but booked with hotel points via 3rd party agent so no status bonus/benefits. Still, the front desk honor the requests for late check out. Aloft is a standard hotel that is perfect for a weekend stay in San Jose but doesn't offer any luxury that will warrant spending more than any other hotels in the neighborhood. read more

The room and bed sheets were very dirty (dirt,hair,stains, and dead spider) and not changed upon arrival. We had to go down to front desk to get sheets and a new comforter. They didn't even give new pillow cases so we had to cover them with a sheet. We had to strip the dirty bed and make the bed ourselves without gloves... basically being housekeeping. We asked the guy if we could get someone to take care of it but he said he was the only one there. The dirty sheets and comforter stayed in our room all night and took up what little space we had. ALSO there was DIRTY UNDERWEAR! Stained boxers hanging out from under the mattress! We didn't even want to shower here because we were so grossed out, so we just left. The ac was so loud, windows, and walls were very thin, paid extra for a bigger room that was tiny and smaller then the pictures looked.They said they couldn't refund us anything because we booked through Expedia. I took pictures but not everything showed up. There was more.. it was definitely filthy and disgusting! We booked a room for the 49ers & Cowboys game yesterday and upon arrival, we were originally told we couldn't get early access into the room (we had arrived at 7am and check in wasn't until 10/11) but the hotel manager Melissa came through and hooked us up with a early check in. This saved us a lot of time and trouble and we were able to get ready for our day comfortably. The maintenance team was really sweet and overall a very hospitable stay. If you are looking for a Motel 6 with some fresh paint, wood paneling, and exterior siding this is your place. When looking at the pictures of the rooms you think you may be getting a modern room with at least enough space to feel comfortable, it's not. It's so small and cramped that I'm not sure how a couple could stay and have room. With a old in-room air conditioner unit you will be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the AC that only goes to 70 no matter how many times you set it. It's a hot, cramped room. But let's talk about the amenities. I was in a King room without a bath, only a shower. No big, pop in the shower and noticed that there is shamps & condish but the body wash is empty and the dispenser was dry. Good thing I have soap. Moving on, every floor has hand sanitizer stations that are empty. I could hear people in other rooms sneeze and cough. I returned the thought by coughing back. I think we connected. The Wi-Fi was terrible but the worst was when the cable went out. Wait, no, the worst was trying to get ice by using the stairs to travel only to realize I'm trapped in the stairwell because the doors are locked (hello fire code). A staff member found me in the stairwell and let me out. My favorite was that the place boasts both a bar and a small kitchen to purchase things. The confusing part was the website said the bar was closed, the sign in the elevator said it was open and when I went to investigate there was a sitting area with some soda cans in a cooler. So confused. Overall, it's a no for me dog. Oh, and they allow dogs so that is something. Finally, I know it's COVID-19 times but that is still no excuse. Room was good, with good amenities food was ok I had a plate of carrots and limp celery to make up for no salad ingredients on the menu The unfortunate issue is that they do not have enough parking 85 rooms and maybe 100 parking spots to share with downtown city events, patrons of the 85 rooms, and countless employees of the Aloft, who in my opinion should park off sight., but wait they have another parking structure 4 blocks away so if you don't mind strolling down the street with your luggage be my guest.
