This place is unfortunately hit or miss. I've been here three times, each time I see a different doctor. Some of the front desk is very nice and helpful but there's one who is extremely rude on the phone and hard to understand. I don't mind seeing different doctors however some are on time and others aren't. Today I waited over 65minutes for my appointment. Previously I've waited over 30 minutes and then one day I was brought back within the first 5 minutes. if the doctor is running behind that should be communicated. Previously, I had a good experience here, but over time my thoughts have changed. The last time I had an appointment for an eye exam all went well, until I received a bill in the mail. I called them up and queried it, since my insurance should have covered it. They said oh yes there's just a small charge and you owe for the taxes. Maybe you can pay that... So I requested they send me another invoice. I never got another invoice. And my husband had a bad experience recently. He had his annual eye exam and was charged a large copayment. He didn't question it. I'm still wondering if this is legitimate. They never gave him his prescription. Following up a few months later when he asked for it, they said they would send it over to Costco. On more than one occasion, this request was made with the same response. Eventually, he had to get in their face, and they had no record of the prescription! He's now had to go back in and go through it all over again. How incompetent can you get? I'm sorry, I don't like leaving bad reviews like this, but it's a heads up for those of you who haven't come before. You really need to follow up with these people and make sure they're not treating you poorly. read more

Made appt. For sister that lives on mainland. She had been diagnosed with cataracts and came for extended visit here so I could care for her. From start to finish everything was top notch. EVERY employee we encountered was kind and understanding. She had cataract surgery on the left eye first, a week later the right. All follow up appts. We're planned out in advance. Dr. Tantisira performed the surgeries and Dr. Hartman did the post op visits. I am a retired RN of 30 years and probably scrutinize the handing of patients more than most; and my sister (the patient) worked as a medical office manager for 30 years. We know how it should go. And nothing fell through the cracks. My sister will be returning to mainland with vision she hasn't had in years. I will eventually need my cataract taken care- no second thoughts on returning. Completely mismanaged admin. Wait times to actually see the Doctor are well over an hour past the scheduled appointment at the Wailuku clinic. Twice a simple appointment has taken three hours. Yes 3 hours! Three requests to transfer my medical records resulted in no success. Why do I have to fill out a new form each time, unless the staff misplaced the previous one? I have little confidence left in this practice's ability to care for me. read more

Zero stars, not recommended AT ALL. I caught an eye infection from one of the doctors in the Wailuku clinic who didn't wash his hands. The next time I came in, he came into the exam room, hands unwashed, and when I asked him politely to please wash them, he got indignant and grudgingly smeared hand sanitizer only on his palms. I then asked him to wash his hands with soap and water and he finally did. I had to see my GP to go on antibiotics to deal with the eye infection. I read that some eye doctors do this to ensure repeat customers. Sick, greedy and so unprofessional! I moved to another state and am having the worst time getting Aloha Eye to release my records. I sent them a completed records request form 9 days ago and when I called to ask why they haven't sent my records to my new eye doctor, the receptionist said they get "too many emails" to look for my records request. I re-sent it as I was on the phone with the rude receptionist, who then hung up on me. This is the third time I was hung up on! I called back and asked to speak to a manager, I was refused. The receptionist I wanted to talk to the manager about said that she will send the manager a message. Yeah, right. My new eye doctor also sent a request form for my records and when I went in for my appointment yesterday, they still had not received anything back from Aloha Eye. This caused me to have to make another appointment, causing me to have to pay more and spend more time going back and forth to the new eye doctor. Avoid the Wailuku clinic! I was treated way better when I lived in Kihei and went to the Kihei location. read more

This clinic is the worst eye clinic on Maui. I had eye cancer on the lower lid of my right eye and they not only failed to diagnose it correctly but told me that it was blephemeritis which is a bacteria not cancer. When the cancer finally did get into the tear duct they still told me that my eye was fine and didn't even notice the cancer was eating away my entire tear duct. I would not trust them at this point. CUSTOMER SERVICE IS A BIG ZERO. The optical department made one attempt to call me and let me know my new glasses were in, but they were unable to leave a message and made no further effort to reach me. I called them on 1/9/25 and they informed my glasses were in on 12/2/24. I was waiting for a second pair of bifocal glasses as the first pair they presented were so poorly measured and set that the magnified portion was in the middle area of the eye glass, roughly 1/8 inch off ~ a significant mis-measurement for eyeglasses. This was the second time they didn't make an effort to reach me. After the first incident I confirmed with them while standing in their offices that I had their one & only number saved in my phone, but again, no missed call showed from them and my new glasses sat and waiting for 5-weeks. I also had an appointment with the eye surgeon that comes over from Oahu, and as I hadn't received a confirmation call I called them the day before I drove over to the other side of the island ~ oops, the surgeon cancelled and they forgot to inform me. I will say that the technician that started my eye exam and the ophthalmologist that did the exam were pleasant and efficient. But they won't make up for Aloha Eye Clinics overall poor services. read more

The airline lost my suitcase which in included my contacts. I had a surf lesson in two hours and have terrible eyesight. Aloha Eye Clinic was kind enough to provide a weeks worth of samples immediately upon me calling and handed it to an Uber driver who drove it across the island to me. Went back for my yearly eye exam. My vision hasn't changed. But I needed to get new prescription glasses because my old one had some corrosion on the ear pieces. I decided on a polymer frame & got one that matched my face. The selection is somewhat limited. Lenscrafters & Costco have a larger selection of frames to choose from. Plus Costco prices on the frames are much lower. read more

Can I give a zero rating to this place or 5 stars just to be sarcastic? Our appointment is at 9 am. Started this review at 914am and still sitting outside the lobby. This is annoying! It's now 916am when we got called. 917am, when we went to another room, took the eye glasses to scan; she came back at 918am and did more questions. 925 am we were asked to wait outside because there's no room at 933 am they called us back, but we're still waiting outside the room. It's now 943am, still waiting, but I hear them just talking story. It's 953 am door open and 9:15am got in first before the __:__am appointment. 959am we were called to go inside a room. It's now 10:07 am when we were with done Dr. HARTMAN now waiting for prescription at the front ...Then, straight to optical got out of there at 1118am. Imagine the appointment is at 9am to 1007am then Optical 1010 to 1118am. Everything is based on a TRUE experience, Don't be offended based on a true experience. read more

Ok today I came to the end of my rope with this clinic. I have been seeing Dr. Carp for 3 years and because my vision in my left eye is getting worse every day I don't feel like he cares or is helping me at all. So I called and told them I wanted to see Dr. Tantisira and didn't want to see Dr. Carp any more. They made me an appointment with Tantisira and I went there today for my appointment. I waited for an hour. They finally called me in and told me that Dr. Carp would be right in! I said NO I made the appointment with Tantisira and reminded them that I had told them that I didn't want to see Carp again. So they proceeded to tell me that Tantisira was no longer taking new patients and that all he does is cataracts! I can't tell you how mad I was! So that's it - I'm done with this clinic. They don't know what they're doing and I'm now searching for a new eye clinic. Wish me luck! read more

I don't like to do negative posts and had to really think about this. But I know so many of us are becoming disappointed and frustrated with healthcare here on Maui. Yesterday I was told that I could no longer go to the eye clinic that I have been going to for years due to 4 cancellations... even if I gave more than 24 hours notice. As many of you know the journey Clifford and I experienced during this last year has been tough and included many EMERGENCY trips to Queens on Oahu and finally Stanford as he was in severe heart failure. 3 1/2 months after his transplant and less than 24 hours from returning home they discovered that Clifford needed an emergency 2nd major surgery due to a malfunctioning aortic valve in his new heart. So once again I had to reschedule my own appointments. When I explained that I gave more than 24 hours notice and the severity and urgency of the situation they didn't care and was cold as ice. This eye clinic now wants letters or "certificates" as they call it from Queens and Stanford as proof of these emergencies. I made this request first with the Queens cardiac team and they are appalled and asked for the number to personally speak with this eye clinic. The cardiac team basically told them this is rude, insensitive, and that this was an unspoken accusation of us lying. Queens told the clinic if they want to blame anyone to blame them and Stanford. Although I have no desire to go back to this clinic, I still want them to have the proof that these emergencies were all true. This journey has already been difficult but this..... just adds salt to the wound. We all deserve better healthcare on Maui and a frontline staff who are not so robotic and scripted. Oahu hospitals are being overtaxed and overwhelmed with Maui patients. Time to advocate for better healthcare!!!!! read more

If I could leave a negative rating I would. Horrible horrible horrible service. No communication between the staffand doctors l, and between the staff and customers. Been more than 8 months still have gotten the correct contacts for my right eye that I had surgery for last year in October. They don't update you on anything. They make you go to see the dr and the dr doesn't even know what you're in for. Went there 3x since march almost each instance the dr didn't know why I was there. The sample contact was misplaced. I ordered me contacts got the wrong pair. Called them and they said they would check up on it and let me know. Called them a few months later and they said "oh it's on the way". Horrible. Till this day I don't have my contacts. Suffice to say after I get my contacts never going there again. read more

The eye clinic that I was going to at the time just wasn't meeting my needs anymore, so I decided to switch over to Aloha Eye Clinic. I have been going to this clinic for awhile now & they are great. I appreciate their Covid regulations during these hard times, they make it very easy to check in before entering the clinic. I get my contacts here every few months, they are always on time. Not enough space in the waiting area. No AC in the exam room when I went. Staff unable to tell me what the acronyms meant on paperwork I was required to sign before leaving. Optometrist who thinks wearing a mask on his mouth and not his nose is compliant. Was told over the phone the cancellation fee for an appointment would be $50, and still made me wait an hour after I was requested to arrive early (why? there was NO need to waste more of my time!). I have been a patient at Aloha Eye Clinic for over 10 years. I've never missed, or been late for an appt. the entire time. Recently I had to cancel an appt due to a family emergency the day of appt. I called ASAP (more than 2 hours prior to appt) and explained the situation. The robotic, un-compassionate person on the phone basically said "Too bad. we make no exceptions for $50 fee when canceling in under 24 hours. " I just received a bill from them for $100: $50 for cancellation and $50 for a "no show" (which I was NOT!) They've lost a customer. Hope it was worth it to them. Would not recommend. read more

Unhygienic, Rude Bedside Manner, Overcharges to Insurance, No Communication I had gone in for eye allergies and saw Dr. Carp. Never have I been met with such unhygienic practices and rude manner. The Dr. did NOT listen or hear me as a patient. I called to follow up with worse symptoms the next day; was told they would call in allergy drops and follow up. I never received the drops or a call back. Doctor came in wearing disposable gloves; after touching my eyes/face he proceeded to WASH them and left the room wearing them...HOW MANY people/things did those gloves touch?? So gross. The cherry on the cake was when I looked at the bill they sent to insurance; including a $50 "emergency visit" charge they tack onto their clients bill (since its covid) and get paid extra from insurance. I called as en emergency referred by Maui Memorial Hospital. Spoke with Shareen at 12 and said come in ASAP. I arrived at 12:30 and was received at 3pm. The clinic was so packed and the staff extremely rude. I checked with them every hour ! When I complained they said "sorry about the miscommunication" and started laughing behind the counter ! A change of insurance plan brought me here after several years of going to another eye doctor. ATMOSPHERE: They're located at the corner of Hookahi & Eha, right across the street from Sack N Save & McDonald's. Parking is small but adequate. The clinic is older but well kept and clean. SERVICE: I called to get a Monday appointment, and got a time in less than a week; 3 days to be exact. Cori got me all set up, and was very friendly and professional. I checked in 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, but before I could finish the first of four sheets, I got called in by the tech Shannon, who was also friendly, professional, and funny. She performed my glaucoma and vision tests. I didn't think that I received my glaucoma test because at my old doc, I'd have to sit at that machine that puffed air into your eyes. The machine here didn't do that. Come to find out it's an old technology, that while is still suitable, isn't as accurate as the one I received here. Alright! I do not want to go blind! Dr. Wynkoop performed my contact lens exam. She was very professional, friendly, and took the time to explain things and made sure I was comfortable. I was then taken to the optical shop to order and pay for my contacts. On observance, they have a ton of frames to choose from. Aiza was also friendly and professional. I ended up paying $100 for 24 Acuvue Oasis contacts without insurance coverage (I'm fully covered only once every 24 months so I was ineligible since I used my benefit last year.) Check out was again, friendly, professional and quick. My exam cost about $120. I was in and out in under an hour without any delays. TIP: When I tried to get an appointment back in 2015, they did not do Monday appointments in the Wailuku location for some reason and was advised only the Kihei location was available. Not anymore! OVERALL: Excellent service, top notch equipment, and very punctual. read more

Went to Aloha Eye Clinic and was treated amazingly. Upon arriving the front desk girls were very welcoming. I was frazzled because I couldn't find my insurance cards or my ID and I needed that because I was a new patient. Janelle was able to help me look at my insurance information. And once I turned in my new patient forms I spoke to a lovely lady named Nicole. The doctors assistant were very sweet as well. Got me in and the doctor came in he was very specific with what he was gonna do and what was going on with my eyesight. Upon leaving I spoke with a lovely lady named Sherie. I have been a patient at Aloha Eye Clinic for years and years, when it was situated on Wakea Avenue in Kahului. I have always had very good experiences until this past week. Dr. Anzai is VERY RUDE! First thing he said to me was I had no right to diagnose my eye problem!! What? I had to tell reservations what I was going to be seen for. After an examination, I had another quick examine question for him and he mumbled something about being in a hurry and walked away! I never want to be seen by him again. Try to make a morning appointment if you can otherwise you may need to wait up to an hour after your scheduled appointment. There is a 48 hour cancellation penalty if you don't show up. Parking lot is limited but you can park across the street. Remember to have your identification and insurance. They send out their billing late, and then charge you a late penalty, so it's better to pay your bill before you leave, rather than let them bill you later. There may be a fee for a consultation so don't assume that they offer a free consultation. Check in advance to see if they will accept your insurance so you don't get a surprise when they tell you that your insurance is not accepted. They lock the door between 12-1pm for lunch, including the optical center. read more

We stopped by 10 min before close of business the day before Thanksgiving in desperate hope to have someone adjust them. They gratefully fixed them and were so nice about doing so. Do not order contacts from the optical department here (or realistically even go here for an appointment). Dr Anzai wrote the wrong brand on my prescription (weekly instead of daily) so the staff put in the wrong order for my contacts. As soon as I received the order I called them and notified them that I received the wrong order. They mentioned that they would be able to correct the mistake and it would take a few days after they got an updated prescription from the doctor, and that I just had to bring the unopened contacts back to the office. When I called a couple times to follow up I eventually got connected to the manager. The manager Steven accused me of lying to them about being offered a correction (the first guy I talked to told me he would help correct the error and that I should followup) and saying I should've known better (I'm not an optometrist and haven't had to double check my prescription at any other doctors office) and that all sales are final. He was very aggressive and escalated the situation very quickly. Reading the other reviews it seems like I'm not the only person to have received the wrong prescription from the doctor. Contacts are available for much cheaper on 1-800-CONTACTS and the customer service is significantly better. read more
