In retro the standby didn't seem so bad. I guess my major complaint is that I was given a 9 am start time right up until the night before when i received a call saying that we had a 7 am pickup! omg no! i would have never booked something so early on my vacation..ugh... Ok rant #2....we are now gone for a huge chunk of the day and not only can we NOT take personal belongings onto the Arizona...but we couldn't leave ANYTHING on the transportation...which meant I couldn't even bring a water bottle along with me. we were at the farthest point in Oahu and had multiple other pickups along the way. the staff was fine...they explained stuff along the way. We had enough time to check out pearl harbor but it felt rushed...most of our time was driving ...on the return we got out at the first stop (said we had a bathroom emergency)...it was a 15 min walk back to our hotel. We stopped for food and had a fabulous walk. Based on the trip there...it would have been at least 30 min with all the stops if we had stayed on the transportation. Honestly if i were to do this again ...I would much rather either uber or rent my own car and do standby...at least I can carry what I want with me and leave it in my car. So, just to set a baseline, we have have never been to Oahu, and in fact, we were staying on the big island but wanted to do the day tour of Pearl Harbor. We contacted Hawaii Luxury and scheduled the tour with the Arizona, Missouri, and the downtown historic travel. Let me tell you, this did not disappoint! We flew in that morning, Rowland picked us up from the airport right on time, got us to Pearl Harbor with a safe drive, friendly demeanor, and full of energy. To say that the Pearl Harbor monument is an experience is an understatement, but to have a driver who knows the area and the knowledge to get in and out smoothly just added another layer of enjoyment. I can not recommend this company enough in regards to their professionalism, etiquette, and knowledge. Well, Rowland's anyway. He rocked! Of course, there has to be a negative, but I will admit that this was our fault since we did not know, but if you plan to do Pearl Harbor, start early. We took the 10am tour, and it wasn't enough time. We did 2 hours on the Arizona tour, two hours on the Missouri, and that did not give us enough time for the sub or aircraft museum since we still had to do the historic downtown tour. 10 out of 5 stars for Rowland!

An appetizer comes with the tour and all the selections were awesome. Definitely big portions and great options like the Giovanni's Pastrami French Fries. So flavorful! Get some food in your belly because the fun is just starting. The stop at GP's includes 2 drinks as well. I choose a go-to IPA I love from Aloha Beer Company. Next on the tour you head over to Kailua to check out Oahu's only winery. Can you say wine slushies! And Ko'olau Distillery. Both spots gave a tour and talk on how they make their alcohol and local ingredients that go into them. Along with samples. Yummy! But wait that's not all! As you head back to Waikiki you hit up two great local breweries. Inu Island Ales in Kane'ohe and Waikiki Brewing in Kaka'ako. We got to try a variety of beers and pick our favorite to have a larger glass of. The tour continues as you head back to Giovanni Pastrami for a few more drinks and just in time for Happy Hour! The whole day was excellent and Kelandy did a great job of keeping us on track as we went from place to place. We were the largest group so far and he was professional and fun all day! I actually saved money by booking through them compared to online, because they fully explained the differences in tours/tiers and picked the cheapest ones that satisfied our criteria. It was clear that they knew what they were talking about. Ideally, you should call Shaka before you get to Hawaii and plan your vacation early... but we didn't. Luckily, we stopped by in person and Shaka Tours saved our vacation. They planned our whole itinerary, got us tickets to things that looked closed, and advised us against packages that we came in considering. It actually felt like a tourist stop itself, because they explained the local geography and customs using google maps and videos, and suggested can't-miss, free, no-reservation needed stuff like the Diamond Head Hike. They were easy to reach by text/call at any time, even when we woke up very early because we wanted to make the most of the day. The tours they did book for us were all great with friendly guides. I can't recommend them enough!

While 'Im not much of a tour bus enthusiast, to ensure that my clients end up with a good one-- I decided to try Nui Tours. Unfulfilled promises by Jack (the owner): small group, Mercedes Van, all of the stops, snorkeling at a specific beach, we did not want to stop at certain places and were told we could customize, souvenir hats, 2 bottles of champagne, unlimited juices/snacks/drinks, and the discounted price per person. What we got: the bus was 30 minutes late, no one answers the phone number, HUGE OLD TOUR BUS (58 people), we did not get to choose our stops or how long we stopped somewhere, they had water bottles and Pringles (no juice/no champagne/no other snacks that were promised), and on top of several other things-- they charged us full price. WE ARE STILL AWAITING A REFUND of the amount that was overcharged. Jack has lied to us, taken zero accountability, and still refuses to answer the phone. I can't help to think that half of his warrants are for fraud at this point. There is no clear communication and several tour companies show up at the same location, so if you got suckered into these tours-- please verify with each driver to see if your name is on their list. Please choose a different touring company to support. If you have a car rented and need help planning your endeavors, feel free to reach out. Good luck out there!
