The audio tour didn't work, no one ever replied to help via phone, text, app or email when it counted. I did all of the troubleshooting advised through their website and app and nothing worked. If you're a tourist, do yourself a favor by talking to Shaka. They are so incredibly patient, helpful, and *honest*! I actually saved money by booking through them compared to online, because they fully explained the differences in tours/tiers and picked the cheapest ones that satisfied our criteria. It was clear that they knew what they were talking about. Ideally, you should call Shaka before you get to Hawaii and plan your vacation early... but we didn't. Luckily, we stopped by in person and Shaka Tours saved our vacation. They planned our whole itinerary, got us tickets to things that looked closed, and advised us against packages that we came in considering. It actually felt like a tourist stop itself, because they explained the local geography and customs using google maps and videos, and suggested can't-miss, free, no-reservation needed stuff like the Diamond Head Hike. They were easy to reach by text/call at any time, even when we woke up very early because we wanted to make the most of the day. The tours they did book for us were all great with friendly guides. Darryl & Shaka Tours were a vacation saver! Blame my procrastination, laziness, and bad planning, but we did not have a car for all the days activities we wanted to do while staying in Waikiki. We spent an hour on the phone, walking from 1 car rental place to another without luck to find a car that was still available to rent! (That was not a $200/day sports car). Desperate, I turned to Yelp and Shaka Tours popped up. I didn't even read the reviews, I just called the place. I assumed they were a car rental shop. But almost immediately, he said that there was a car available at Alamo (We were just there!), and to swing on by. When I got there, it surprised me that it was just a tiny 1-man shop that focuses on booking tours and activities. Darryl not only confirmed the car rental for us, but gave us a map and highlighted parking areas, as well as must-see attractions that only a local or well-traveled person who frequents Hawaii would do. We wanted to go to Hanauma Bay, so he offered us scuba rental gear, which would be half the price that would be rented out there, so we jumped on it. We picked up the car, had an amazing two days of traveling around the island, and returned the gear with no incident. Shaka Tours prevented us from having to spend extra money because of our poor planning, and saved our vacation! My husband and I decided to just randomly walk into this place since it was across the street from where we were staying. We had actually first saw them on yelp and realized that they were located just across the street. The only thing we needed was to just rent a car and we got so much more than that. We dealt with Mike. He was very friendly and asked us some questions about what we wanted to do on the island. After listening to us he freely gave us information on all of the best snorkeling, beaches, and everything you would want to know about the island. He was also very honest about everything. We followed all of his advice and were not disappointed. He has the gift of gab, but in a good way because he freely gives away all of the secrets of Hawaii. During our visit with them there we overheard another customer that was disgruntled about missing her shuttle. He dealt with her with absolute kindness and did everything in his power to help her situation. He was willing to go above and beyond but she was being irrational. It wasn't even Shaka Tours fault! She had given them the wrong phone number, which is the real reason why she missed her shuttle. She was very rude and out of hand. I promise that Shaka Tours has no idea that I was going to write this but I feel that their business did not deserve that bad one star review. We accidentally witnessed the entire situation and they did everything they possibly could to solve a problem that wasn't even their fault. Also, Shaka Tours was not even the ones that were driving the shuttle, it was another company. He got us a great deal and we NEVER felt pressured about anything at all. I hate being pressured into things. I would definitely recommend using Shaka Tours to help plan your vacation on Oahu. They were very accommodating and I can tell that they care about their job. I'm giving shaka tours a 5 star rating, because they came in with the clutch when I was in need of a vehicle. Just an FYI they do not have vehicles to rent, they are a 3rd party store that will find a car to fit your preference at a great price. My story is below... It's 4th of July and most car rental locations have been sold out. It was about 830am so I called Budget and they had 1 regular sedan and wanted 110/day. I politely declined and continued to search. I found Shaka on yelp and they had raving reviews so I waited until they opened at 900am and called them. Darryl picked up and and asked how he could help, I told him what my preference was and he said he would call me back in a few. I waited about 2-3 minutes and my phone rings and it was Darryl, he told me he found mid size sedan for 75/day. I went to meet him at pick up time and he is a local and treats you as one. We were talking stories and he made me feel like he was a distant cousin that owned a shop and hooked me up. For a little hole-in-the wall place, they definitely took care of us!! We were looking to rent a car for our last day on the island - my boyfriend wanted to avoid any extra walking as we'd been walking all week and because he wanted out of the humidity. After walking around and asking all the car rental places near our hotel, we finally jumped on yelp to find a place that would rent a car to us at a reasonable price. We didn't want to pay $80+ for a mini-van or $125+ for a sports car. Darryl (I think it was Darryl) was still setting up shop when we came by asking questions about a rental car. He jumped on his phone and called Alamo asking if there were economy cars available for a 24 hour rental. Within 10 minutes we were getting a car squared away and even got a 10% discount with a Yelp check-in deal (totally unexpected as I'd been checking in on Yelp to help me remember where we went to in order to write reviews when we go home from vacation). We just needed a car for the day and we were able to get that done within 15 minutes. Darryl even highlighted areas on the walking map of Waikiki where there was free parking in case we decided to keep the car overnight and drive it to the airport the next morning. I recommend coming here for any of your car rental needs - they'll set up with with reasonable prices! I wish I could say more about the tours, but we were on our last day. Thank you so much Daryl! :) We were in Waikiki without any plans for the day because we were just there to shop and relax, but instead of lazing on the beach and shopping for one whole week, we decided to do some activities as well. The last time we came here, we ended up shopping for the most part because sales taxes are so low compared to Los Angeles :) We walked to Shaka tours at around 1pm, which is considered somewhat early for LA standards, but very late during the day for Hawaii standards, since most of the tours start at around 7 or 8am. Daryl went through an exhaustive list of recommendations, and we spent about 1 hour going through pretty much everything there is to do on the island. However, most of the activities were either booked out or had already started. We didn't want to wake up 7am the next day either and be all rushed either, especially when we're on vacation in Hawaii. So eventually we elected to rent a car instead, and do the tour of the island at our own pace. Daryl got us a really good rate for a convertible Camaro from Avis, which is much lower than what I could find myself online, even after playing around with coupon codes for Hertz, Budget, Avis, etc. We plan to make another trip to Waikiki in January for our next shopping spree, and we will definitely stop by again then! read more

These guys are really helpful! I was initially looking to rent a car for my stay. I went to the hole in the wall next to this place, and they wanted a $300 deposit through a major credit card. I expected that since it's the same here in California. However, I didn't bring my credit cards on this trip since I didn't want to over spend. I walked over to Shaka Tours and all they said they did was put a $1 hold on a debit card. Perfect! They went through the process very thoroughly with me and warned me about how they might try and stick insurance down my throat and to just say no. Everything went well and I got the car pretty easily. Another reason why these guys get five stars is because they were personable and real. I told them my plans for the day and asked for recommendations. They told me what they would do if they were in my shoes for the day with the given time. They pulled up pictures of the destinations I should go to and wrote it down on the map. They provided a very detailed itinerary for me and I went for it. Mike was the person who helped me figure out a snorkel tour and/or car rental. I was expecting him to talk up some crazy expensive tour AND a terrible deal on a one day rental for a car. Clearly I've been burned before by excursion sales folks. However I was pleasantly proved wrong. He was super (if not brutally) honest about renting cars and doing snorkel tours. He said visibility for snorkeling was not great and renting a car through him would cost MORE than booking an online reservation myself (which he actually logged onto enterprise.com for me and booked a reservation! He got NO cut for that!) By the way, Mike gave a FABULOUS recommendation to book the car rental immediately. I went during high season and BOY was he RIGHT. He booked online on Monday for Thursday. By Thursday, the price had gone up $40 extra to rent the car. DAMN. Thanks Mike for saving me money! If you go to Shaka, bring some cash to tip the guy working there (if it's Mike, for SURE tip him if you end up not buying anything from him). Even on their website they give you cheaper alternatives on getting to destinations, but of course you sacrifice time and ease. I booked two private tours (for two people) back-to-back with Daryl. We were able to see all the popular spots without being in a rush. Daryl did all the planning and catered the trip to our interests. WOW! What an amazing day we had with Shaka and their Dolphin Safari. We started off as a group of 20 strangers on the outing but by the end of it we were more like one big old family. All of the guides and workers on our Dolphin Safari were all scientists of some sort so they really knew what they were talking about. We started off by watching a momma whale and her baby for a while before we went on to swim with the pod of dolphins. Our guides worked hard to find and direct us to the dolphins so that everyone could get a chance to swim with them. After we got to swim with the dolphins for an hour or so we headed over to the reef where we got to chill out with some turtles for a while. It was really neat to see the turtles pulling in to get cleaned by the fish. These people have really done their homework and you will have an excellent time with them. read more
