The Twilight Tour at the Honolulu Zoo was a fun and educational experience. This event starts after the zoo closes to the general admission public, at a very reasonable cost. Highly recommend this tour for families especially those who are visiting. The time of the tour is perfect! It was cool enough to enjoy the tour comfortably for the 2 hours. Please don't skip out on the bug spray! Even the mosquito seem more active in the evening. It's nice to see the animals moving about as the cooler air contributed to it. Such a fun tour! Our tour guides (Spencer and Savanna) were incredibly knowledgeable and I felt like our two hours flew by. Getting to go to the zoo in the evening was possibly the best way to see the zoo. We are regular visitors to the Honolulu Zoo and usually we make it a pretty quick trip because it's so hot, but this was amazing. Definitely our most enjoyable zoo visit. Mosquitoes galore.. a lot of walking, so dont forget your water bottle. Tour guide was very informative, not as crowded compared to when the zoo is open... Petting zoo, playground, stores are closed, but they could make more money if these things were open. On the website they offer lemonade and snacks and that didnt happen.. The great thing about this tour is you know more information about these animals, the downfall is that your not free to roam.. but it's for your safety. I never heard of zoo twilight hours til' I went searching for tickets. i do recommend to attend it, you'd be surprised at what animals come out and sounds they make just because it's later in the evening. read more

What a fun and unique way to visit the Honolulu Zoo. I remember being a little confused at first when it read that the tour ran from 5:30-7:30pm (because at this point in the summer, it wasn't quite sunset). But, Drew and Takio were excellent tour guides for our family's Twilight Tour. They were incredibly knowledgeable about the zoo inhabitants. I also appreciated getting to see zoo inhabitants active and awake at this time, such as the anteater! So cool. My family decided to book a Twilight Tour at the Honolulu Zoo since my daughter really wanted to go to the Zoo, but we wanted to do it after the afternoon sun hours. The Twilight Tours is a small private tour of the Honolulu Zoo. It lasts about 2 hours. You can book it online at the Honolulu Zoo website. The tours run every Friday/Saturday, but the schedule does change depending on the time of the year, so make sure to check the Honolulu Zoo's website for the Twilight Tour Schedule. Honolulu Zoo is located near Waikiki Beach. If you're staying at a hotel on Waikiki Beach, Honolulu Zoo is within walking distance. The meet-up entrance is at Gate 3, not the normal entrance where the Honolulu Zoo is. Honolulu Zoo has a variety of different animals such as Komodo Dragons, Giraffes, Lions, Tigers, Penguins and much more. The tour guide went through each animal, the characteristics, and living life style of each animal in the wild. It was quite informational and a memorable positive experience from the Honolulu Zoo Twilight Tour. Be prepared, this is a 2 hour tour with non-stop walking, except when you stop with the tour guide to go over each animal. Afterwards, there is a private room you are brought into where you can ask the tour guides additional questions. They provide refreshments such as lemonade and animal crackers. You are then privately led to the "gate-3" to leave the zoo. The tour was so much fun and I left with a lot more information about some of the endangered species then I ever knew before. We heard about the tour re-opening a couple weeks ago and bought tickets for my daughters birthday party. As soon members, it was a reduced admission price, but even if we paid full price it would have been completely worth it given everything we saw tonight. Our hope was to see some animals that we wouldn't normally see during the morning and afternoon hours. We weren't disappointed and in addition to seeing more animals active in their enclosures, we had a guided tour by Takio, really friendly and knowledgeable local guy. Far and aware our best zoo experience yet and we've been going for 20 years. The tour was well organized and each tour guide had probably no more than 10 people per guide. Takio told the story of each animal, how long it had been at the zoo and how they were acquired. A big part of the tour was about the conservation efforts around each animal and contributing factors to their population declines. This is a great way to see the zoo! Highly recommended and worth it. We booked 2 weeks in advance, so I'm not sure how far ahead you may need to book given they probably had 40-50 attendees tonight. read more

This is one of the better ways to visit the Honolulu Zoo. As the tour runs from 5:30-7:30pm, you avoid much of heat and sun that can make a day out rather draining. In addition, you, and your group of ~20 guests, get a tour guide knowledgeable about some of the more popular habitats. Attended the Twilight Tour with our Cub Scout Pack to earn one of our Adventure Loops and was so impressed by this awesome experience! It was super easy to sign the Pack up for this tour online. If you're a Honolulu Zoological Society member then the cost is $12 for adults and $8 for children. Checking in on the day of the tour was simple for our large group. They had lanyard passes to identify our tour groups. Our tour guide was Charles and Parker. They were super awesome in answering the MANY questions that our scouts had. Super knowledgeable and was able to politely manage the kids when they needed to refocus. The tour was very educational and they also had hands-on items for the kids to touch and carry. Found this event through Yelp, and decided to take my gf for a special occasion. Initially I was apprehensive at the $15 price tag, as Kamaaina day cost is $8, but it's completely worth it. It's about a 2 hour walking tour, so make sure you're ready for some exercise. Even without the heat of the sun, we had tired feets by the end. The snack shop is closed, but the bathrooms and water fountains are available. The animals seem a lot more active after closing, when it's time for feeding and the sun has gone away. We got to see the lions and tigers up close, and even the warthogs decided to come see what was happening! Nocturnal creatures such as the fennec fox are starting to stir and run around as their night begins. Our guides, Charles and Connar, were both very good. Both were very well-spoken, knew how to segue from exhibit to exhibit, and answered any questions to the best of their ability. Connar was a little bit quieter at times, but it's hard to speak over a group with screaming children. Please control your young ones! Our group was about 15 people in total, which seemed like a little too many. The group could get split at times, with Charles speaking to the front while the back lagged way behind. Some viewing areas were too small for our entire group, so some people would be left out when Charles and Connar were explaining behaviors or history. Cut that down to about 10 people, and the tour would be perfect. It's a unique experience that more than makes up for the price. You don't get to see all the exhibits, and you don't get to go at your leisure, but the tour guides and animal activity are completely worth it. read more

Conducted after regular hours, we were able to enjoy the zoo with a much smaller crowd and cooler temperatures (still quite humid, however). The Twilight Tour is a 2 hour walking tour that takes place from afternoon into evening, and it was a really great experience for myself and my parents! After booking tickets, I was a little worried that it was more of an experience for children.. but the tour itself was really fun for all three of us. We paid $20 for all three of us. In our tour group, we had around 20-30 people with a handful of kids. Our tour guide was Charles and he was extremely knowledgeable about everything in the zoo (and outside of the zoo)! Honestly, I am not sure if this would have been a 5 star experience if Charles was not our tour guide. He was really energetic, answered all questions, and added some humor into the tour! I have to say, if you're looking to see some interesting Hawaiian or island animals, you will NOT see them in this zoo. Our tour mostly saw African animals - if I had known this, there is a chance I would not have booked the tour as you can see these animals at many other zoos. However, it was still pretty interesting to have a tour guide because we learned a lot of things we did not know before! We were able to see all of the animals that Charles wanted us to see, except for the lions :( Some animals we got to see: komodo dragon, barn owl, hippo, gharials, warthogs, tiger (!!), flamingos, many peacocks, meerkat, lemurs, black-footed spider monkeys, rhinos, baboons, elephants, zebra, giraffe, and many more! Pro tip: bring bug spray. I got maybe 10 mosquito bites on my legs throughout the tour due to standing still in areas. However, I think we had a very fortunate experience with Charles and many of the animals being out when we went! read more

Tonight we did the Twilight Tours at the Honolulu Zoo with the kids. It's the after party on Saturdays after the zoo closes. Starts about 5:30pm and lasts about two hours. This event is always sold out weeks in advanced so I say book your tickets now if you have the chance. You're in a group of about 16 people with a tour guide. We had Takio. What a great guide he was! Lots of knowledge about all the animals, history and stories behind them and the zoo, and he's very entertaining! Couldn't ask for a better tour guide. You get to see the animals during their dinner or night routine. Some went to bed, some were more active, some I never really saw during the day I got to see right in front of me! The tour is great because of all the new information about the animals on tour that's not on the regular billboards. Plus it's not crowded and not as hot. You don't get to see the whole zoo, but most of all the big attraction animals you do. You get lemonade at the end of the tour so that's a plus! Great experience and much MUCH more cooler and breezier at night! Met at gate 3, on the parking lot side on the far left, not by the Zoo entrance. Bought the tickets online and showed it to the guy. No need to print it, they gladly accept it digitally. Go green peeps! Once you receive a lanyard which specifies whjch group you are in walk through the gates and use the bathroom immediately. It's a 2 hour guided tour walk around the park. Would've been nice to be driven on a safari type of vehicle... but ah we need the exercise anyways! Water bottles are allowed inside. All of the stores are closed so you are left drinking from the water fountains. We got to observe nocturnal animals in their habitat out and about. I was most anxious to see the tiger, which she turned out to be grouchy. However her "meow" was a lot more manlier than the lions growl, who knew!! At the end, we were left with a conservation story/message and led into a room to enjoy animal crackers and gold fish and to fill out a survey. Then we were led out the gates since it was dark. I highly recommend this tour! I'm actually interested in what else the zoo has to offer like those keiki camps, but until next time zoo animals! read more

We just experienced the Honolulu Zoo's Twilight Tours for the first time and were really happy with the experience! We go frequently during the day and a good amount of the animals are inactive whenever we go. This was wonderful because we got to see many animals we haven't before-I've never seen/heard the lions so playful and active! The guides were excellent and so knowledgeable. They really did a great job of engaging everyone and do this purely out of love for the animals. We had toddlers and I will say that it was a bit hard. It is not a "leisurely" walking tour but a pretty fast paced one. It was a bit hard for us to keep up with the squirmy little ones sometimes but we still enjoyed it nonetheless! read more
