Hidden gem! This is a WONDERFUL little cozy place in Lava Hot Springs. It was my first time in the area and I really didn't know what to expect. We were driving down from Montana and got caught up in a storm so our check in time was going to be extremely late (midnight). Called the office and they were extremely accommodating. The room is secured by a keypad with a unique code given to you at check in which they gave me over the phone. The staff over the phone and in person the next day was very friendly. The room(#7) was the perfect touch of warmth and cozy feeling we needed after such a long drive. There is a pretty big mini fridge and microwave in the room. The TV is a smart TV and has dish network with several channel options. The room was very clean and decorated with cute alpaca pictures and alpaca rugs. The bathroom has a full size tub, full size 32 oz tresemme shampoo/conditioner, small hair dryer, full size pump of hand soap and lotion (see pic). The beds are extremely comfortable and they even give you extra pillows besides the ones on the bed. Inside the rooms the ac has been updated as well (see pic) and is remote controlled for easy on/off option. Each room has their own little coffee station with real mugs. Outside of each room is a small patio table and chairs for two, so you can sit and enjoy your coffee. If you prefer to stay inside to drink your coffee there is a nice comfy rocking chair. We stayed here New Years Eve. It was a last minute getaway for my little family. They usually have a minimum of a 2 nights stay but we were able to get squeezed in between the other guests, which was really nice of them to do that. The location itself is secluded. Just a little off the Main Street but still close enough to restaurants and bars. Close enough to walk to. Which was really nice and convenient when you're driving a big truck and you don't feel like pulling in and out of the crowded areas. Plus for us, on that part haha. The room is spacey and barn house feel but really cozy and warm. The ceilings are high so we didn't feel like we were crushed in a small room. The bathroom was spacious and I love that they advertise items for sale inside the room. The bed was comfy but I ended up on the couch lol because my son fell asleep in my spot on the bed next to my husband. We didn't even stay up for the count down. I did hear the fire works while I was dozing off into sleep. It was nice a quiet. The host was really cool and friendly. Got me checked in quickly and smoothly. Check out was also quick. I liked that they had a card and keyless entry door. That solves card problems if it doesn't work and the host is out, yeah! Been there done that. Not having to worry about where the card is or where I put it saves me so much stress. Believe me, I'm so distracted with other things that I'll end up leaving my key cards in the room! Lol! Clean. Very comfortable bed, extra blankets and pillows. Amazing heater in the bathroom to keep you warm and dry your swim suits. Located in the center of town. Owner is nice and friendly and on-site everyday for anything you need. Also easy for late check-in. Great gift shop of alpaca hats, socks, scarves made from the fur from their alpaca farm and very reasonably priced. read more

I stayed here with family for a little getaway vacation and had an excellent experience. Likes: the decor in each room is modern and gives a nice homey, comfortable feel. We had everything we needed. The owners had great communication and were very friendly. The beds are comfortable and the amenities were perfect. I love how close to everything it is downtown. We were able to walk to a number of restaurants and stores within two or three minutes. Dislikes: the Wi-Fi signal was quite weak in our room. And my pillow felt like a square brick of foam covered with a pillow case. Overall I loved my experience here and would be happy to stay here again. read more

Staff is nice and attentive, rooms are clean and nicely decorated. But as someone that has travelled extensively for the better part of 25 years (I was on the road for work 90% of the time) I can honestly say I have NEVER slept on a more uncomfortable bed in my life. Me, my wife, and our daughter will be spending the day looking for a chiropractor after last nights "sleep". I wish I was joking... If they would spend a little money replacing their mattresses this place would be awesome. As it is, I wouldn't stay here again if you paid me to. read more

Looks like a nice place, but unless you're 1000% sure your plans aren't going to change I suggest finding a place that has a refundable deposit. I gave the Alpaca Inn a deposit for a stay in October and notified them over 2 months in advance that we had to cancel. Not 24 hours, 2 MONTHS. They would not budge on refunding my deposit, saying that it "cost them money" to refund a deposit. Nope, sorry, that's about 2 clicks on the computer. I like to buy local, but not with policies like this. There are too many other choices for hotels that have flexible cancellation policies. In this economy, that's important. read more

My family's first experience here was 5 stars and beyond! The room was super clean. It was great! We enjoyed our visit so much last time that we didn't hesitate to book at the Alpaca Inn again. However, this visit didn't match up to our previous one. All of the towels and sheets on one of the beds smelled sour, there was an incident with a bug being found in the bed before we had even slept in it, the mattress frames felt flimsy and on the verge of falling apart, and the WiFi was unpredictable and spotty; which wasn't an issue last time. On the upside we got new towels the following day and they smelled fine so maybe it was a fluke. We'll give them another try next time we're in town and cross our fingers for no sour smelling sheets and towels read more

This is hands down the best hotel/motel/private house rental experience I have had in all of Caribou County, Idaho. Over the past few years I have stayed in several paces in Soda Springs (see my review on Enders Hotel, for example) and they have been terrible experiences. Also stayed in Grace and have stayed in a few other hotels/cottages here in Lava. The Alpaca Inn has been the best experience in all of these towns. The place is CLEAN, with a very friendly staff/owners, and I really have nothing to complain about. I really shopped around to try and find a good place to stay for a reasonable price. The room was about $95/night which was the same price as many of the other non-luxury hotels/motels were charging. So, I really felt that this was a great value considering there were no funky smells, no bugs running around in the bathtub, and windows that actually latched (again, I have stayed in a lot of other places nearby). There is a no-smoking and no pet policy, which I personally thought was great... .again no funky room smell. They also have a pretty rigorous cancellation policy - which is fully explained when you reserve your room. I think others have found this place to also be a nice place to stay. I got the last room available (on the Thurs night!) so reservations are highly recommended. I will definitely be back. read more

My hubby and I have never been to Lava, so we checked out a few different places to see which one felt good to stay at. Alpaca Inn definitely deserved to win our money. Some other places we checked out were terribly decorated, or way too small or just plain dirty. Our room here is average sized, nothing huge but just right. Breakfast nook, mini fridge and they actually have cable tv which is pretty rare. The rooms lead out to a beautiful courtyard and they have door key pads that they customize to whatever code you would like so you don't have to bothering remembering a random code, or your keys. The manager Dina is SUPER friendly. She gave heartfelt suggestions on where to eat and what to do in town and even geeked out on the cutesy Alpaca stuff for sale at the registration desk. Dina also cleans the rooms and does a perfect job. I am a housecleaner myself so that note can be taken very literally. What I love most is that even though I really don't super love Navajo patterns and themes, this hotel for some reason makes me totally dig this cutest cozy vibe. read more

Stayed in their private 'Cottage' with the family. Has sleeping for eight. Two queens and two fold out beds, full size fridge, oven, microwave. The manager was very helpful and courteous. Was looking around at many places and found the Alpaca Inn online with great reviews. After staying I can see why. Well worth the money! Only slight issue is that the one bathroom is small with a stand-in shower, which may deter large groups who are not family. Also, don't plan on getting very good WiFi while at the 'Cottage' the connection kept dropping or did not connect at all. I would definitely recommend this place and stay again! read more

We stayed here for my son's graduation last year in the house they have. Sleeps several people comfortably with a full kitchen to save money on meals. They also offer access to a barbecue if you are so inclined. We are staying in one of their regular queen rooms this time. So clean and comfortable. New TV's in the rooms, keypad entry for ease during your stay. Has small fridge, microwave, coffee maker. Located centrally so you can walk anywhere in town easily. The staff is friendly and helpful, always great to work with. Really love staying here. read more

We stopped in Lava Hot Springs for a night on our way to Montana. We had our 2 children with us and stayed in one of the new 1 bedroom suites. It was quiet, clean and the perfect set up for our little family of four. Complete with microwave and fridge. It was also within walking distance of the water slides and hot springs pool. We have stayed almost everywhere in Lava Hot Springs and this is the cleanest and the best by far! Every other hotel is waaaay too run down, there is a difference between being old and charming and just plain dirty! They are so nice there - everyone works hard at making your stay great, and the rooms are great. Warm in the winter, cool in the summer. Location is perfect. Quiet and off main, yet close to everything so you can just walk. The Alpaca stuff is pretty cool - very soft and real. I did not see a real Alpaca, but I know there are some, somewhere. You can go over to the Blue Moon and do pretty much anything.....good food, drinks and music. read more
