This place had been great so far! Perfect location. Small simple room with two queen size beds, mini fridge, microwave AND huge tub!!! Our kiddos love playing in the big bathtub they call it a pool We had the Hot Tub all to ourselves for a little bit which was really nice to have some private time with just our little family. It's in walking distance of everything, even a park and the river. You get 10% off breakfast at the chuck wagon for breakfast and the hotel serves coffee, tea and hot chocolate 24hrs. Our room is a little dated but clean and fit our needs. We would stay here again. They are doing construction on Main Street right now so that made parking a little difficult to access and it was fairly noisy until the sun went down but it didn't bother us very much. read more

A lot of positives about this hotel to focus on. They have very quaint rooms that are comfortable and clean. Also, every room has an oversized tub with the natural hot spring water pumped into it. They are the only hotel in the city that has this amenity which is super awesome. We filled our tub up and had our own private hot spring bath. My only issue, I wouldn't call a complaint, is they want you to be quiet at all times. It was 5:00 and 4 of us were in a room hanging out and talking about our plans for the night. Someone came to the door and asked us to keep it down. We did but I don't feel that is necessary, maybe they should invest in better sound proofing rooms? Also, we came back to the hotel at 8:30 and the receptionist told us we had to keep it down because the room down the hall had a baby in there and just got it to sleep.... while I appreciate a sleeping baby it's not our responsibility to whisper at 8:30 PM. I gave it a four because I find these to be minor infractions and overall we really enjoyed our stay. I just think if sound is a problem, they can update the hotel to change that. I love spending a weekend in Lava. We've come three or four times over the last couple of years and keep finding new things to do in the small town. In the summer we play disc golf, swim at the pool, and still need to try the zip line and floating down the river. In the winter we walk around the town, play Bingo at the community center, and spend time in the hot springs. We've stayed at a variety of places, but this one has been the best. $215 was the total I paid for two nights in the Kandinsky room. We had a queen bed and a giant hot springs bath tub. The 32 inch TV had plenty of channels. The room was on the small side, but we didn't have any issues with that. Out room had been recently remodeled and looked great. It was themed around Kandinsky art. I had no issues with the bed, but it seems as if other people have. Check In/Out was simple. They also have some coffee, tea, and small snacks available for free for those who like. There isn't a whole lot more to cover...it's a great hotel in a small town. The location is excellent, a quick walk to the hot springs and other parts of town. We will definitely come back. read more

This hotel is essentially what you would expect in a tourist town like Lava Hot Springs. The front desk staff is very friendly and welcoming. The reason I rate 3/5 is due to the fact there were some issues with the room, but that comes with the territory of a 100+ year old building. Some of the issues I experienced: the tub wasn't fully clean. For this being the main selling feature of the room I figured it would've been thoroughly cleaned and I wouldn't have to pick up someone else's hairs out of the tub before using. My room only locked from the outside, so when inside the room it felt like it wasn't secure. There was an additional latch up top but it wasn't aligned so it was useless. The toilet handle was broken and had to be turned a specific way to flush. The bedframe was super squeaky as well, but nothing that wasn't manageable. Positives of staying here: Close to the hot pools, great customer service from the front desk, mineral water in the tub from the hot springs, in a walkable location, easy access, street parking, ceiling fan in bedroom, fridge/tv. Overall, I liked staying here, and I think I'd stop by again if I was in town. read more

If you're forgiving you'll find this place fun and quirky. If you're a little more rigorous you may find these rooms odd. We didn't stay in the older building but instead in the rooms near the sidewalk. You walk in and almost immediately trip into the tub. The jacuzzi tub that is both the bathtub and shower for the room. The tub with the 6 foot curtain for privacy and no light above it. And all this would work if the room was being used as it was designed, as a cute little spot for a couple to enjoy a rustic getaway. But they've crammed a second bed into the room and now it seems cramped. And now privacy issues pop up. We enjoyed ourselves but the room just seemed a little strange. 2013 #196 / 365 read more

Im not sure about the other rooms but we stayed in the economy rooms at a lower price. These rooms are very small with one night stand with nowhere to put your belongings, there is one coat hook in a bad spot that is useless. There are rooms up above you and our upstairs neighbors sounded like a herd of breeding elephants. Seriously our whole stay they tromped back and forth and it seamed as though they were going to come trough the ceiling on top of us. Horrible beds I dont think it is even a queen and is probably as old as the building itself. Having said that our upstairs neighbors bed was also very annoying as they banged the headboard and wore out the springs all night. Worst nights sleep in a very long time. I'd say the only thing good about this place is free Wi-Fi and cable tv and that it is only a short walk to the hot springs. read more

This hotel is too cute. Tessa checked us in and she couldn't have been more sweet. They have free coffee, tea, and hot chocolate available 24 hours downstairs. When my son and I got to our room he went to the restroom and noticed the HUGE soaking tub. I noticed how clean everything was. The abstract artwork on the walls didn't seem to match the old home feeling of the rest of the place. The bed was noisy and creaked every time we moved, and the mattress could use an update, but it wasn't too bad. The bed and the artwork is the only reason I gave this place four stars. Has a little hot bath both in the back, but also in several of the rooms. We always stay in a room with a large tub because they are extra romantic. The Home Hotel Lava Hot Springs is located in the heart of town next to the Portneuf River and Lava Hot Springs mineral pools. Restaurants and shops are walking distance. Water tube rentals are next to the hotel and river launch for tubes is across the street. Great location! Very pleasant staff with easy check in. The family room we had was very spacious with two queen beds and a huge jacuzzi tub with hot mineral springs, a relaxing treat! Air conditioning was sufficient and a small patio a nice touch. If you're coming to Lava, this is the place to stay. Lovely, lovely owners operate The Home, and are always happy to accommodate your every need. They offer several choices of room sizes, ranging from parties of one to entire Big Love-style families. Prices are very reasonable, despite having risen signficantly since we started frequenting Lava. They renovated the place within the past couple of years, and most rooms have been nicely updated, and are now themed after famous artists. The only obvious differences between the various artist themes are the framed prints which adorn the wall above the headboard(s); Klimt (priority, because he is my favorite), O'Keefe, Monet, Kahlo, Kandinsky, etc. The rooms are still small, but have comfortable beds; and unless your through-the-wall neighbors are overly noisy, you won't be bothered by them at all. Most rooms have large mineral soaking tubs, which are very nice. But keep in mind that if you're spending your days/evenings at the Hot Springs, it's kind of overkill, not to mention silly, to spend your time in the room doing this. And because there's nothing else to do in Lava Hot Springs, except perhaps watch the cable TV provided here, you'll likely be primarily soothing yourselves at the Springs. We have rarely utilized the tubs for this reason. I would recommend one of the rooms with a shower - some are separate tub/shower, some are shower only. The Home Hotel/Motel is within easy walking distance to pretty much everything in Lava, including the Hot Springs which are a very short jaunt up the street. There are a couple of diner type restaurants and a few small shops nearby. Take at least an hour or two and explore this sleepy but interesting little town. As long as we keep coming to Lava, The Home will be our home away from...home. read more

It had the natural mineral water flowing in the tub. The tub must of had insulation cause it stayed hot for hours. Right next door is the world famous hot pools, and they were wonderful. I've stayed here twice the first time was a few years ago in the motel section and the second time was a few weeks ago in the hotel itself. The first stay in the motel was with a bunch of friends, so it was great to be able to reserve a room with two queen beds for not a ton of money. The room was definitely dated and there was nothing fancy about it, but it suited us just fine. The second stay I was there with just my boyfriend, so we opted for one of the nicer king rooms in the hotel. The room was very clean and cozy but also incredibly small. The soaking tub was a monster and we joked that we could fit 4 people in it! Really the only complaint about this room is that noise is a definite issue. It's an older building, so I could hear girls talking loudly in the next room and heard every word of every conversation in the hallway. Overall, this is a nice place to spend a night or two. The location is just a stone's throw from the hot springs and being right on Main Street you're able to walk to every restaurant and bar. The two front desk women I interacted with were beyond friendly and really added to the experience. read more

This place is fantastic!! Beds are super comfy. Tub is huge and new. Everything is clean. Plenty of towels. The little shampoos and lotions are great. Misty was super sweet and even let us check out the room before we committed to staying. From the outside, the place looks like an average motel. Jets, handles & tub spout shows sign of rust & mildew. Light fixture in the bathroom looks like it hasn't been cleaned out in a while. Bugs in it & flying around it. When we checked in, noticed pillow cases had stains on it. Had to ask the front desk to exchange them. I know it's an older hotel, but that's not an excuse for cleanliness. Really just for one night if you're coming to town for the mineral pools. Pictures on their website were a bit misleading, maybe they're photoshopped to make the hotel & rooms look nicer than they really are. Paint chipping on walls. Don't expect what you see in photos. This place was just perfect. Very clean and very modern inside the room. I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived and saw our room. There was a VERY large bathtub that ran mineral water (took 40 minutes to fill it seemed). Our room was a 5 minute walk to the hot springs. I will most definitely be returning to this hotel. I paid about 210 for 2 nights in a room with 2 queen beds and I feel like like it was worth the price. I know they also have rooms with a private hot tub outside, I am going to try and get that one next time I go. There was also free wifi and flat screen tv. read more

My first trip to Lava Hot Springs & my friend booked us at this lovely little motel. The place was VERY clean (I even checked for dust on top of the headboard & mirror above the sink and nothing), all the staff that we interacted with was very friendly & helpful. There is no smoking in the rooms but they have provided outdoor seating & ashtrays around the property that made me feel like they didn't want smokers like me to feel like total pariahs. Since they were so good, I wanted to offer a few tips that I feel would make the stay better. #1 in room coffee makers. Coffee is provided in the lobby but if you're not staying in the main building, this means you're crossing the parking lot to get coffee. For those of us that like coffee in our pajamas, that makes it a little awkward, I would highly suggest at least the option of requesting an in room coffee maker. #2 no dresser to put your things in or on. I think a narrow cabinet on the wall where the TV is would be helpful for people to put their things in would be great and would solve the next problem #3 microwave & fridge in the closet area and the clothes hanging bar is so high you'd have to be an NBA star to get any clothes on the hangers. A cabinet area that incorporates an area for the microwave & fridge would be perfect. Of course, these suggestions should not deter anyone from staying here, it's a wonderful place to get some R&R and experience the town. read more

The last time we stayed was ok. The parking lot is a little scary and prices a little steep, but it's a tourist town, so I get it. We thought we'd go back and have a great time again this weekend. Then Coronavirus happened. My spouse and I are truly sick and should not leave this state, so why do we have to pay for a night we absolutely cannot spend there? Booking said we had to pay full price, the manager said we could get 1 night back. Thanks, but really? This isn't our fault! We won't be bringing our germs, but we also won't ever return to this hotel or recommend anyone else stay here either. Businesses have to make money but extenuating circumstances must be considered! Room on bottom floor. Very load trains every few hours at night. Bright lights from the pick-up trucks and people looking in your room. Dirty windows and an under-sized cheap A/C window unit. Short bed with very light skimpy blanket. Thin cheap towels, and poor room lighting. Clean enough and nice staff, but I'll pass on future visits. Overpriced for what you get. read more

We have stayed here previously, and it was great. However, the owners have added a new policy that makes it illegal to carry a concealed weapon on their property. They still haven't improved their rock solid beds, and lumps of cardboard they call pillows. We can bring our own pillow top to soften the mattress, which we did. We can also bring our own pillows, which we did. We won't knowingly give a dime to any local business denying us the right to carry a weapon. read more
