Fantastic, clean, convenient! This is the best place to stay if you want to be right in the action in town. The mini fridge is nice and the linens were spotless! It is right on the main street so it can get loud when people are walking outside. read more

I was so excited to stay here, and they were so accommodating to start, even though I made the mistake of booking a night before we arrived. Unfortunately, the bottom floor room was filthy and the TV didn't work. We were finally moved to a different room hours later. The new room was not much better even though the TV worked. Clogged sink, blood drops on the sheets of one bed we and clogged shower. Staff was less than accommodating about the room change as though it was annoying to them. Didn't feel comfortable bringing anything else to attention. The so called pool they offer is basically located on another rental properties land. It's dirty and not what was advertised. Charging as much as they do for one night is absolutely absurd. I can only imagine what they consider a "spa"! Makes the town experience walkable and fun but it's Right next to the loud road and train. DO NOT RECOMMEND! read more

Neat concept. Really. Kudos to them for trying it out. But the all-concrete design is not ideal. The rooms echo like crazy, which sucks because their beds are cheap metal IKEA beds, so they squeak any time someone moves. Did I mention they're bunk beds? Good luck getting any sleep. Hauling my things up three flights of icy concrete stairs wasn't fun -- it was dangerous. read more

The prices are up and the upkeep of these properties has gone down. We stayed in their cottage in 2021 and fell in love with the experience. As we planned our return this year, the cottage was unavailable- so we decided to reserve the courtyard room #9 because it had a private tub on the patio. However, there is no cool water hose to run into the private tub so our kids and I didn't get to enjoy it like we had planned. The private tub was the reason we we spent $100 more than other rooms- and we weren't able to soak in it because it was unbearably hot. You can see the kids disappointment in the reflection of my husband's glasses- who is pictured taking a shot of Jack to recover from the tantrum that ensued. The kitchen was nicely stocked- with available cookware. However there is no grill on or around the courtyard properties, so if you're hoping to grill forget it- - - we ended up buying a portable grill at the grocery store for $50 (ouch) and made do. There is no bath which could be a bummer if you have small kids... My favorite thing about this property were the two futons in the living room area (pictured on their site is an older set of couches).... So I was pleasantly surprised to see futons upon entering the room, and being able to fold them down at night as sleeping space for the kids was awesome. The guest pool is great too when it's not overcrowded. We visited in June and had a hard time accessing the guest pool because it was taken up by a large family reunion. Luckily we were able to spend a little time in it prior to checking out. That being said, there are a couple of safety concerns to be aware of. There is a loose piece of wood outside of the patio door that my daughter and son both tripped on. My son nearly busted his face open when he lost his footing on it while walking through the door, and my daughter tripped over it as it came loose - resulting in a nice scrape on her knee (also pictured). From a safety standpoint I wouldn't reserve this room a second time. The patio door lock is also broken and presents a safety hazard if there was ever a fire because it's super tricky to lock and unlock. I made the hotel staff aware of these safety concerns upon check out but I'm not sure they cared. Their disinterest was a little surprising based off our experience and the interactions we had with the staff the previous year. Not sure if they're under new management or what but our experience this time around was a far cry from the amazing first time experience we'd had the year before. Unfortunately, for what they charge and the dwindling condition of the property and disengaged staff- I dunno that we'd stay again. . . Next year we will probably look to some of the other places in town and steer clear of the Lava Hotel, such a shame :( read more

Great location in the heart of Lava Hot Springs on their Main Street. I really enjoyed their private hot spring pool for their guests and we utilized that the night we arrived. When we got to the private hot pool we were the only ones for about 45 minutes, then there were about 15 additional guests that showed up, but it still wasn't way packed. The room had the amenities we needed. The beds were not very comfortable and we all woke up feeling aches and pains instead of feeling well rested. I would recommend this place, just don't be surprised when the bed isn't that great. That's typical for a hotel. It also would have been nice if we had access to a laundry room so we could dry our suits and towels so we could have dry ones for the next day of going to the hot springs. Just a suggestion. read more

I am going to start by saying we enjoyed our initial stay here. That being said, it turned into a complete nightmare that could have been EASILY avoided with additional investigation from staff. Other than the cigarette butts in the hot tub (when we checked in) and lying around the property, it was cute and quaint. We stayed in their small cottage in the meadows, steps away from their private hot pool. When we checked out, we were sad to leave but definitely planning to return soon. That said, three days later, multiple charges were on our account, almost to the amount of $500. We paid cash when we stayed there and gave them our card number for a deposit. We stayed for two nights and even cleaned the place up when we left! When I called to ask about the additional charges, the manager was completely rude, stating that we completely obliterated two of their chairs - which is 100% NOT TRUE. She sent a picture of ONE chair that was wobbly WHEN WE CHECKED IN, and in the image she sent (below), it had been turned upside down and taken apart. We did NOT do that! The owners called us and ended up taking the same stance, now saying that we also caused paint damage to the room. The only thing that my husband and I can think of that we did that would have upset housekeeping was that we moved the trundle bed into the main bedroom so that our toddler could sleep next to us. Maybe this upset housekeeping, and so they broke the chair? I am not sure what happened to the chair, but I do know that they treated us very poorly and unfairly over this and lost good customers in the process!! We would have happily paid well over the almost $500 they charged us to stay in the near future, but instead, I need everybody to think twice about staying here! Do NOT give them access to your debit card number!! My bank is putting a stop payment on this charge, but it would have been nice if the manager and owners had at least CONSIDERED that we are actually telling the truth. Very disappointing!! The Lava Hotel recently changed their name from Aura Soma Lava. It is probably one of the nicer hotels in Lava Hot Springs and a great place to stay during your visit! It deserves 3 stars because it is a fine hotel with some amenities and good service. It is clean and well-taken-care-of, but it doesn't have the high scale quality, spaciousness, or comfort of a 4 or 5 star hotel. We stayed in the Galleria room, which had 2 queen beds. The room was pretty tight, but it contained a mini fridge, microwave, closet, suitcase stand, small table, nightstand, and TV. (There was no chair to sit on, unfortunately. We had to sit on our bed if we wanted to sit down.) The room was pretty small, but we didn't spend much time there, so it was fine. The bathroom was nice enough! There was no door separating the toilet from the rest of the bathroom as some hotels have, but it wasn't a problem for us. The sink had no space to put any toiletries on, but there was a 3 shelf stand behind it to store personal items. They provided complementary bar soap, lotion, and shampoo, but NO conditioner!!! So make sure you bring your own! Customer service was fantastic. The employees were nice and respectful, and they even filled up my water bottle at the Lava Waffle in the hotel lobby when I asked them to. The Lava Hotel is a great place to stay in Lava Hot Springs! It's not luxurious, but it gets the job done. read more

We stopped in mid week in March for a quick overnight trip. I'm so glad we stayed here! The hostess was incredibly helpful in selecting a room and telling us about the benefits of staying here! We went for a weekend getaway. What drew us to Aura was the fact they had their own hot springs pool. They do but I don't know how many minerals it really had. I felt good in the pool but a few minutes after being out my body ached again. We go to Lava for the benefit of the mineral pools. There was a huge family reunion at the hotel. They had many teenagers which appeared to go unsupervised by running up and down the stairs all night and jumping into the very small pool. The rooms are nice and recently remolded but at $245.00 for the night I didn't think the pool and the room were worth the price. read more

A very nice little spot to stay. The rooms are very clean as was the nice bathroom with a walk-in shower. The front desk people were very kind and helpful. The hotel pool was lovely to soak in early before our departure. We spent our full day at the public mineral springs up the road. So relaxing! The cottages look very quaint (we peeked in the window as there was no one staying in any of them). They look very comfortable. We would love to come back for the Fire and Ice Festival next winter as we missed it by a week. We will definitely book at the Lava Hotel and Spa again. One other nice thing about this town is that everything is within walking distance and we found the local people to be very friendly. There is a train track that goes above the town so you can hear the train probably where ever you stay in Lava. I kind of like that sound but some might not prefer it, if that is the case bring earplugs for sleeping. read more

Specifically, we stayed at the Chalet (fancy!). Four stars for Lava and the price. Everything was clean, plenty of towels (always nice with a bunch of women), and decent wi-fi. This is hands down the nicest place we have rented in Lava. LAH-va. Very conveniently located as well, right behind Blue Moon and just up the road from the store. A bit of a walk to the ASL pool, but not horrible. Small complaints: The dishwasher smelled like death and belched out soap foam when we ran it (luckily, we had plenty of towels). It would be nice if they installed washer/dryer in the giant basement bathroom, where there are hook-ups, but we rented knowing they were not included. read more

We stayed in the Cottage at this facility this week. It was nice having our own hot springs pool onsite. We didn't have to deal with the crowds at the public hot springs. The Cottage is the closest to the pool. While it was nice, we had some concerns about this particular unit. It is a very old little home and sorely in need of updating. The bedding was less than wonderful. The king bed didn't even have a fitted bottom sheet. The sheet and the mattress cover would come off whenever you roll over. The blanket was stained. The bathroom doesn't have anywhere to put your toiletry kit. There is no place to hang you towels except for a flimsy rack hung precariously on the back of the bathroom door. The kitchen furniture was rickety, to say the least. They did have a couple of folding chairs in the closet so we switched out the rickety chairs for these folding chairs. There was not a complete set of dishes or glassware. All they had was some mismatched mugs and dishes. There is no dishwasher, so you have to trust that the people before you washed them appropriately, or wash them yourself before you use them, just to be sure. The hot tub on the back porch, while convenient, was so hot that I couldn't stay in for more than 10 seconds (yes - seconds). They did have a cold water hose leading into the tub, but it was detached since it was so cold and would freeze if not detached from the hose bib. There are no deadbolts on the doors. Just old doorknobs with a twist turn lock knob. This could have been totally delightful, but it wasn't. With a few hundred dollars the owners could made this stay much better. For the $200 fee per night (including taxes) it's equivalent to a 5-star hotel, but it sure isn't. read more

I stayed in one of the homes detached from the hotel and it was cozy. I felt like I was playing house with my new boyfriend and really enjoyed our time there. They have their own hot pool but it wasn't very private. Locals were coming in and out. We were pleased with our set all in all. However, when we checked in we heard the receptionist claim that 3 rooms were available at a far better price. We inquired about possibly changing our reservation and she denied our request. We were a little disappointed, but I realize this is business. read more

I was meeting a college friend and she's stayed here before. There was a new building and we were given a tour. The new building was two story and the rooms were very nice and a little more expensive. We were in an older one story building pictured and our room was the green door, number 6 I think. It's wasn't the Ritz and a little pricey for the room but the bed was comfortable, it had a TV, fridge and microwave. They had a private hot spring pool in a nice secluded area just for guests. have bad knees and I like the one level building, especially since I hate people above my head so I would stay there again. I really like outside the room there was a sitting area right on the main street. It had a beautiful view and everything was within walking distance. When I checked in I was given early check in because they had availability. I also asked about a massage and was squeezed in that day. The front desk staff was so nice and accommodating that they are the number one reason I'd come back and stay. However, I had a great time and really like this hotel. read more

Very small, but very clean and recently remodeled, with an adjacent new build. The two things that set Aura Soma apart are the incredible service and the private pool. The staff greeted us enthusiastically without being creepy; the private pool and gardens are a short walk from the building, but that also makes them even more private. This is the best place to stay in Lava Hot Springs. The staff was very outgoing and friendly. We stayed in the new building. It was very clean and nice. The pool was not open due to repairs. The friendly staff gave us 20% off of our stay. The only thing I would suggest is to not stay in the last room by the stairs. Early in the morning we were woke up by the sounds of luggage being dragged down the stairs. It caused our whole room to vibrate. But over all it was a great stay. read more

Very expensive for what you get. An extremely tiny room which is musty, smells like Fritos and a thick dirty dog smell permeating everywhere. No vending machine and everything closes early in the town. The "hot springs" is actually a tiny old gross pool. Very disappointed. At least after complaining of the dog smell they refunded $33 off of $166.00 bill. read more

We love Aura Soma! My very first time in Lava was about 13-years ago. We stopped in on our way home from Washington. It was a few days before Christmas and the streets were covered in snow and it was COLD! However, we rented a tiny house that was really close to their hot springs pool AND had our own private hot tub on the back porch. The best part, we met the owner! She is a lovey person and because of that first encounter, whenever we are here, we stay with Aura Soma! And we recommend Aura Soma to everyone!! We brought our three kids up the day after new years, and they loved it as much as we do! The hot springs pool was their favorite part. Lot's of room for them to get their wiggles out. Plus, we had a private tub on the front porch. Not sure I will want to stay at the Meadows again (its a bit run down), but we will be back! The remodels look really nice and we look forward to seeing more remodels and updates!! Cheers! read more

we celebrated our wedding anniversary here last nigbt and stayed in "the cottage". The cottage has its own hot spring tub to soak in which was absolutely wonderful. I do feel that they are overpriced and there is a train very close by that is a little bothersome. The service was outstanding! read more

I have been visiting Lava for several years & have always stayed at the Aura Soma property. Staff has always been friendly & accommodating. Clean, affordable rooms. Their private pool is very convenient if you don't wish to spend money at the hot pots. We did have a problem with the jetted tub in our room not working on our recent stay, but they offered us a credit toward our next visit. Can't wait to return! read more

Although the buildings are kind of old and kind of different - lets say each room/building looks unique, my room was clean. They have used better quality furnishings and decor than some of the other motels in Lava. The fellow at the front desk was wonderful and professional. The hot pool in the back of the motel was not good - old and dirty - but I think April is maybe the off-season and they are busy fixing the grounds and buildings up. Our room was quiet and comfortable and again, the gentleman at the front desk was so nice. read more

This place was wonderful! The rooms are perfect for a little couple getaway. The rooms where modern and very clean. Jacuzzi tub was luxurious! King bed was very comfortable. Also has a private hot spring for guests that's open till midnight. The office staff was very nice and generous, they gave us free candles for our room. Would recommend this hotel to anyone. We stayed here for two nights and enjoyed every minute . The people are very polite and make you feel welcome especially our receptionist she was very sweet.. We got to stay in their new building, it was little, but homey. the only thing we didn't like was that their DVD player didn't work and my son really wanted to watch his movie when we got back to the room. We also tried there Hot-spring pool in the back and loved it, it was very peaceful. I would definitely recommend this place if you ever want to go and have a fun, relaxing weekend read more
