    Wednesday special

Someone at my gym told me this place was a must try & IT IS!! Ughh I'm such a sucker for good food! I could eat this bowl EVERYDAY! The chicken is so juicy and full of flavor and everything is so fresh! My ONLY complaint is that the chop bowl is only offered on Wednesdays (crying) it is SOO good!

My sister suggested we dine in this spot since she had been to another location in North Carolina. Alpaca Peruvian Charcoal Chicken offers quite a few dishes. I went for the 1/4 dark meat chicken with two sides. The two sides I chose were the rice and beans and the maduros. The chicken was nice and moist. It was seasoned well and can be paired with their green or yellow sauces. The yellow sauce is very mild where as the green sauce is on the spicy side. It has a good amount of heat but not enough to be grabbing a drink. The rice must be made with a broth since it had some flavor even on its own. With the beans it was a great combo. The maduros had just enough sweetness. The chi cha morada (purple corn drink) was delicious. It is mixed with some spices to give it a mulled drink feel. The employees were all very nice. I liked that the facility had both high chairs and booster chairs. The booster chair was used for my daughter was very clean. Wish there were locations outside of North Carolina, but I guess we will have to come back whenever we are visiting the state.

We are over the moon that Alpaca has chosen to grace the City of Wilson with their deeply flavored, wood charcoal rotisserie chicken along with their famous black beans and rice, and the cilantro/jalapeno green sauce. We have been eating at Alpaca since they began in Raleigh many years ago and have watched them expand across the Triangle as one of the best healthy dining establishments in the area.

All Sales Final! Diners beware! So, every Tuesday(well…read moremostly) is date night for my husband(of 37 years) and I. He likes taking me to experience a different but delicious restaurant each week. He chose Latin Roots for its reviews. We were seated quickly which was great. We ordered 2 beef empanadas & 2 shrimp empanadas for our appetizers. The waitress was pleasant, took or order and returned with 2 chicken empanadas and 2 shrimp empanadas. We did not touch the petit dishes as she placed them on the table but we reiterated to her, "We said beef empanadas." Hoping that was what she intended to say, but she said something like, oh, I told them chicken, hold on I'll be back". She was gone several minutes, returned to our table and said, "I'm sorry, we do not accept orders back. All sales are final. They told me it would just have to be on me." The waitress was a college student and we could see the stress in her eyes of having to pay for her mistake so my husband said, "It's okay. We will pay for it just bring me 2 beef empanadas at 2 dollars each for the additional empanadas.", applying the principal of the additional charge that was listed on the menu. The empanadas were good. In addition, we ordered the seafood paella, which the saffron infused rice was overcooked, along with the shrimp & lobster tail which were rubbery due to being overcooked. Any other decent restaurant would have offered to make the dish over or at least the manager would have come out and apologized. NONE OF THAT WAS DONE. Another waitress came over to our table and asked how our meal/experience was and told us to be honest and we were. She offered an explanation that they only had 2 cooks cooking in a space she marked with the expanse of her hands as being very small. We were honest with her and she told us she would let the manager know. My husband asked to speak with the manager. Our waitress told us "She has already left/gone home, but she took care of the empanadas and you were not charged for them". Nonetheless, when we looked at our bill/check, the cost of the empanadas were on the bill. My husband paid the check and WE WILL NOT BE DINING THERE AGAIN. I am especially disappointed that it appears to be a fine establishment and I have never been in a fine restaurant in the US or abroad that did not stand behind proudly behind the art of their cuisine. Also, I have never known any restaurant to operate without the manager being present or an assistant manager being present. Even at McDonald's, the manager will make your order correct if they make a mistake. I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU EAT AT THIS RESTAURANT IF YOU WANT QUALITY FOOD AND SERVICE OR IF YOU THINK WHEN A RESTAURANT MAKES A MISTAKE WITH YOUR ORDER THEY SHOULD TRY TO MAKE IT RIGHT. Remember: ALL SALES ARE FINAL & Latin Roots did NOT try to make it right. If I could give this restaurant a zero, I would.

I was really one mayonnaise filled torta away from missing out on my favorite Mexican restaurant of Cary. The food is some of the freshest and most authentic in the area, and is consistently spot on. Forget heavy burritos or overly sauced enchiladas, this place is the real deal. When you come to Esmeralda Grill, you should really focus on the meat heavy dishes, whether it be via land or sea. There are so many different options to choose from, from both categories. When thinking seafood, expect the full fish. If you find yourself with the fresh grilled tilapia, you will receive a delicious whole fish that tastes as if it was caught that morning. It is such a fantastic option. I also appreciate the camarones a la diabla, or Diablo shrimp. The shrimp are plump and juicy, the spice of the dish is excites your taste buds and is a great dish. My favorite entrees are the land meat dishes though. El Trio Perfecto is my go-to order, it is grilled steak, chicken and pork all on one plate with rice, beans, salad, and tortillas. The Mexican spice rub on the meats is absolutely mouth watering, the flavors are so bold and tasty. The meats are all cooked to perfection and the portions are gigantic. You can make different tacos with the various meats, it is seriously one of my favorite Mexican dishes. I would highly recommend this! Additionally, Esmeralda Grill has so many other wonderful dishes for different flavor profiles. My grandparents are pretty particular about empanadas, but simply cannot get enough of Esmeralda's version. They also make some killer tacos, and some very affordable ones if you were to come on Tuesday! The moral of the story? Don't base your opinion of a restaurant after a single visit. You don't come across a fantastic hole in the wall every day, Esmeralda Grill is one that every Mexican food lover should know!

I usually rotate between the tacos, enchiladas, and molcajetes, and while the tacos themselves are just okay, the overall experience is solid. The fresh chips are easily some of the best I've had at a Mexican restaurant (warm and crisp). Add queso to those chips and it really seals the deal. They more than make up for the tacos being a bit underwhelming and are honestly reason enough to come back. This is a great neighborhood spot if you're looking for authentic flavors, generous portions, and excellent chips and dips (biggest downside is no liquor aka no margaritas). Not every dish is a knockout, but the highlights keep it comfortably in 4-star territory.
